Hi folks, please excuse my ignorance as I am not a regular user of my phone for anything other than calling home and asking my wife if I need to pic up anything from the store before I come home from work ect...
I have some pictures on my phone that I would like to put on my computer so I can print them out. I am using a Samsung Captivate. I am so unfamiliar with most of the terms used here I am not even sure what to look for under a search. Would someone mind helping me please? Thank you in advance and if you happen to have a problem with your air conditioner I can be of help with that in return.

It views as an HDD? mine shows up as a camera
normally if you connect your phone to your computer there should be something in the statusbar of your phone like USB-connection. click on that and now you can choose to connect as hdd.
Once you have the phone connected as a drive, on my phone the pictures are in the dcim/camera folder. Find that and copy and paste to your computer.
Detected as camera probably fine too, it should offer an import option.
Alternatively there are apps like dropbox, that if you use them on your phone and on your computer, it will automaticly upload the pictures to your computer whenever your phone connects to your homes wifi.
Or just mail them to yourself, the access the mails from your computer.
You also might type into youtube "samsung captivate usb mount" and You will find a video tutorial.
Or you can use Samsung Kies. It's a program for Windows or Mac to sync your data.

First, use your USB cable to plug your phone into your computer. If you're not sure what the USB cable is, it's the black cord that came with your phone. It's probably plugged into your phone charger; unplug the cord from the charger and use that to plug the phone into the computer.
Then, on your phone, open the notifications menu at the top of the screen by swiping down. Click the button that says "USB connected" (or something similar) and choose the option that says "USB storage" (or something similar). Then your computer should say "Installing driver software" and then "Your device is ready to use."
An "Autoplay" window will probably pop up. You can choose "open folder to view files." Double click on the "DCIM" folder, double click on a folder inside there (it will probably be "Camera" or something), and you should see all of your pictures.
Google can be your friend, well for atleast the first 15 mins..
Often you have to select USB storage or something like that in order to enable your phone as a hd. that will mess with your apps when it is connected because it mounts the SD card etc on your PC, so it is usually not enabled by default.
Pull down the notifications bar, click on the USB connected link, select the appropriate action.

Thanks for the tips folks. I am sure with your help I will finally figure this out. I had already tried sending my self an e-mail but I never got it. Tried connecting to computer with the cord and the notifications bar will not pull down. It just shows the connection thingy on the screen but I cant do anything with the phone while it is connected. Thanks again for your help. Its very much appreciated.
if it's not too many photos I usually just email them to myself and open it up on my computer
I did a google search and found this post showing step by step what to do as I don't have a captivate and each phone can differ.

an alternative method is;
be sure that your photos are stored in SD card.
remove your SD card and connect it to your laptop's SD card reader (you should have a micro SD - SD adaptor).
copy them to your laptop.

I'm trying to transfer files from my PC to my tablet, but the PC doesn't recognize the tablet - it wants me to format it. Same thing when I try to transfer the files from my mp3 player, the content of the player should be listed in the usbdisk folder, correct?
This is driving me NUTS, I'd appreciate some help. Oh, and tablet is rooted - VEGAn.

Rooting this Gtab is somewhat of a different process fyi
You could always use dropbox, Google it
It works fine for me, with no ADB installed (Vegan 5). Plugging the Gtab straight into the PC and turning on USB storage should recognize it as a USB storage device, like any other USB key.
OP, what operating system are you using? Have you tried a different USB cable? A different USB port on the PC? Perhaps a different PC (if one is available)?

Hi,
For the PC, are you connecting from your regular size USB connector on the PC to the *mini-USB* port on the side of the Gtab (not the full-size USB under the cover on the side of the Gtab)?
The mini-USB connector is the one you need to use to connect to your PC.
The full-size USB under the cover is a "host" USB, i.e., you can connect a flash USB drive or USB hard drive to that, and then assuming it's formatted FAT32 with only ONE partition, you should be able to see it on the Gtab under /usbdisk.

- I don't have a different cable/PC to try it with
- FYI - it WAS initially working when I tried to transfer files from my mp3 player to the tablet, the transfer was interrupted when the cord came loose from the tablet, and now it's no-go for both the PC or mp3 player file transfer process
- I do have a permanent folder usbdisk on the tablet, even when there's nothing plugged into the usb ports

The small port (like a camera cord) should work. The cable has a USB end on the PC side. It should be recognized on the PC as an external drive. No need to install ADB unless you want to try that too.
One idea is try plugging the USB cable into different ports on the PC end.
If you have wireless and can share network drives on your PC, try File Expert. Its free and can be found in the market. With it I can connect to my PCs drives and copy to SD or USB in my GTab right on it. Granted, it took quite some time to copy a 1GB movie to SD2 (10 min), but it worked. I had to prevent my device from sleeping though or the transfer failed. Worked well though. I'm on TnT lite.

Hi,
I seem to recall that roebert (I think) had a problem w the miniusb connector being loose or broken. Have you looked at the connector in detail? Maybe the solder connection broke and it 'jiggles'? If so, probably need to get it repaired.

Well, I know it's not the cable, because I used it to transfer files from PC to mp3 player without any problems.
My PC shows the tablet (drive letter E assigned to it when plugged in), but I can't access the tablet - it's like the PC recognizes something is plugged in, but it doesn't recognize it as having content or something.
On top of that, I kept getting the android.process.acore error, so I did a datawipe and had to re-download all my apps again, to add to the aggrevation.
I will look at the different solutions suggested and if they're not requiring too much advanced knowledge, I will attempt them.
Thanks again for the help & suggestions so far, hopefully I will somehow stumble onto a fix that works!
So, I figured it out. Really simple - if you know how.
The VEGAn root is what did me in - when you plug in the cable, it doesn't give you the option to turn on the USB Mass Storage, which you need when you want to transfer files from PC to tablet. The unrooted device was a bit more user friendly by walking you through it when the cable was plugged in.
I figured out that if you tap and drag down on the USB icon on the top of the screen you can actually access the options - it's not just a status icon!
Hopefully this'll help out someone else who's rooting their tablet following instructions blindly without really knowing what's what!

Astro SMB Module
If you are working on a home/private network and the file is on a shared network drive, you can map it in using Astro and the SMB Module for Astro ("Astro SMB" returns both in the market provided you have the market fix) and browse shared network drives just like you would on your laptop or PC.
Once installed, a network icon appears in Astro (looks like an upside down "T" or an old school windows network icon) and you can map in your network drives pretty easily. I use this with NAS and work files pretty regularly. You may have to enter alternate or domain specific credentials to make it work.
EDIT: Also I believe there are file format limitations, OS limitations, but haven't fully explored that.

As I can copy music files to your ?
The USB connection allows me to connect to your board and explore ?
All this I ask because when I connect the phone to the pc does not show anything like the memory card.

WP7 isn't meant to be able to use the memory card as an external drive. It is solely used for the system. Think of the card as WP7's internal memory where the OS is stored. That's a bit simplistic, but you'll get the picture. The memory card isn't meant to be removed either. If you remove it, you will screw up the system. In simple words, WP7 doesn't have expandable memory. Forget the card. Forget all about it. You can't use it like a device that has a card slot for removing and so forth.

No, like the iPhone and iTunes software/hardware management, WP7 uses Zune to copy anything compatible to the device. And you can't select where on the device to copy it to. Meaning, you can't choose to copy anything to the card.

if not, try other usb ports. it should come up in the notification area (aka system tray) that a device can be unplugged.

I have a desktop cradle that I put my phone on at work. I have the USB cable from it plugged into my PC. This is nice, because it slowly charges all day, and if I want to share files between my phone and PC, they're connected.
At least, that's how it was with my S4.
With the S6, all I see in Windows Explorer is the S6 listed under my C drive. When I click on it, it's blank. Well, at least once or twice, I've seen "Phone" under there and could then drill into the folders of the internal storage. But I don't understand why that only happened once or twice and why I can't get it to happen again.
Any suggestions?
i think you have to wake the screen and unlock the phone before it will show up as a drive on your PC. it is kind of a security thing. prevents that sketchy coworker from grabbing your phone and copying all your files while you grab one of the donuts he brought for everyone.

Before I get yelled at, I did search. I have been searching for days.
My S6 is stock. I have an Acer Aspire laptop, 6g ram, 1TB hard drive (if that makes any difference), running Windows 10 (it is less than a year old). When I plug my phone into my computer, the computer does not recognize it, it doesn't even register that there is a device plugged in at all. I do not get a prompt on my phone. I tried all USB ports. I have USB debugging turned on. I downloaded the drivers. I have been searching for days, and all I get is "turn on USB debugging and download the drivers".
My storage is at capacity (thank you, fantastic camera), and I need to transfer my pictures onto my computer. I tried doing it via bluetooth, but it was taking FOREVER. I just want to plug my damn phone in and transfer stuff.
Please. Someone. Help.
1. If on windows, check in administrative tools/computer management/disk management on your computer, if you can see your phone there. If it is visible, maybe you just need to asign drive letter to it.
2. Try download Shortcut master lite from playstore, run secret code explorer in it, then code 0808, and set AP and MTP+ADB to see phone as disk in windows, this helped me, hope it will help you.
Offcourse you can also try dial *#0808# and see if that works (rom dependant)
That worked for me.
When I plug my S7 into the USB port on my PC (windows 7 64 bit Pro) I get a "folder" for the Galaxy S7 and beneath it a folder for the "card". That's fine. When I dig down into the card, I go to the DCIM folder and down below that to where I store my pictures. But when I try to open those pictures with my usual photo editor (Polyview - an oldie but a goodie that works with every other jpg I have) nothing happens. I just downloaded Irfanview 64 bit and the same thing: it does not recognize the jpg's on my card. What gives?? How can I access the card as though it was a standard card via the usb? On my old phone (an S2) I would go through the settings menu to where I could tell it to connect via usb. The s7 doesn't seem to have a similar option. I did the magic to open up the "developer options" under settings but don't know where to go from there. I see something that says "USB configuration" with options under it for MTP (Media Transfer Protocol), PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol) and some other options, but don't know what they mean. What do they mean?
There is also a "USB Debugging" option, but again, what does that do?
Is there any "Android Mashmallow for Idiots" book out there I can read?
You have to use the MTP option. If that still doesn't work get a different USB cable, preferable the one that came with the phone.

same thing happened when I first plugged the phone in to my Win7 box. I can see the card folder, but the images on it don't react the same way as every other jpg does from any other device. I don't know if this is a marshmallow issue, or a Samsung galaxy s7 issue.
