Video playing problem with GT-N8010 using ifit smard cardio app - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
On my Samsung Note gt-n8010 I have installed Lineage OS 14.1 with small pack of google apps. It works a bit laggy but is quite stable. Wifi and Bluetooth works fine.
I can play an mp4 video recorded by this device's camera and I can also play a video shared from other android device.
When I try to use ifit smart cardio app which is offering physical workouts recorded all over the world then I only see a black part of the screen instead of the video. I can listen to the audio path but video frame stays black
I suspect that I am missing some video codecs and I wonder what should I install. The graphic chip is an old Mali 400 and maybe it does not support some modern video formats?
Can you help?

Poor hardware video decoding on Tab

I picked up the Tab yesterday after selling my Archos 70. To be honest the video processing onthe tab is poor. Speed wise iits great but the hardware decoder seems to not process the video correctly. This is apparent on 720p content, the image seems to be pixelated or downscaled very poorly, resulting in jagged image quality. It seems that lower resolution files such as 480p does not suffer from this problem. I have tried mp4 and mkv 720p files and the problem is still very noticable. After trying rockplayer xyplayer and a host of others i noticed that the image is far sharper under software decoding ( but too slow to be usable) , one hardware decoding is enabled the image becomes blocky.
To be honest the main reason for buying the tab was for the playback of 720p content on a good quality screen. ( archos 70 screen has poor contrast and viewing angles) , has anyone else noticed this poor hardware decoder issue? and is there any way around it? , I am running the latest firmware and feeling a bit dissapointed, my galaxy S has no such decoding issues.
Poor? It plays perfectly my test file, a 1080p trailer for the last Indiana Jones... And that beast reaches a bitrate of even 50mbps!

I have noticed the same thing.
Whit 720p movies the Tab do some thing to the image. Pixelated/downscale weird frames sometimes. When just watch on the Tab screen i dont noticed its so much. But when i connect it to the hdmi dock and run the move on big screen its gets really noticeable.
And its like you say, on low res movies its looks good like youtube or other movies.
But whit 720p its looks weird some time whit lost frames or what you can call it.
Can't explain it whit my poor English.
The Tab play all my movies just fine. No lagg or so. Its just like the above described. Its seems it have problems to decode or handle the image the way it should look like.
And i use the stock Samsung player.
Think the Tab has same problem when you look at pictures in the gallery. Its downscale/mess up the image. Have read about that here on Xda

It doesn't happened to me when I play with Samsung Video 720 & 1080p.
I don't trust RockPlayer.
FYI.
No issues here either, 1080P and 720P all played fine... best file format seems to be XviD..

I agree. The Tab plays my ripped blu-ray movies beautifully. I keep resolution at 1080 too. No lag or picture quality issues.

I use the the standard video player and it works fine, rockplayer lagged and put movies out of sync for me
Use stock player instead, never really trust rockplayer
cannot play any 720p mkv at all. Stock/Rock player. I can play 720p MP4, but audio does not work : (

I think your problem is that there is DTS / Multi channel audio in your movies.
The Galaxy Tab can't play Movies whit 5.1 audio. It haves to be stereo sound or it won't play.
It's kind of sucks, because almost every 720p movie haves multi channel audio that SGT can't handle.
Little annoying that movies have to be converted only for the audio.
What i do is that i convert my movies whit Formatfactory.

[Q] Video playback

Hey guys,
Trying to setup my GFs phone with some media to watch while at the gym, and I can get everything on there fine and use different players to watch it, but I noticed no matter the player there's a significant frame drop/stuttering in the playback, especially when compared to my S2.
Anybody else notice any choppiness when playing back media? Only tested with divx TV shows downloaded from the web (playback from phones camera seems to be fine.)
Thoughts?
Hrmmm. Not sure. I use MX video player for playback and have been happy. This is mostly for flash video and camcorder on phone, but I haven't tried any divx. For the most part everything is fairly smooth.

I use handbrake to knock mine down to the proper size and have zero issues, I also use mine on the treadmill. Beats the heck out of the TV. I use realplayer
I use mx video player too. It works great but sometimes the video freezes and you have to hit back and select the video again. But that's only on software decoding.
If you convert the video to MPEG you can use h/w decoding which fixes that and seems to make the battery last longer.

MoboPlayer works great for me.
Mx player is great, set to sw fast decode and it run very smooth. It support subtitle, interface is nice and easy to use.

[Q] video quality/compression

Hi,
I am trying to play HD MP4 videos on the transformer suing mxplayer. I have noticed that as the video plays the textures become slightly blocky until the screen refreshes every few seconds. I tried Dice Player as well and a similar thing happens. This doesn't happen when I watch the same video on VLC on my PC. I was wondering if there was anything that could be done about this.
Thanks
Guevor's kernel has some accelerated drivers and the new Nvidia codecs which all made my tf watch videos extremely well, you could give that a shot.

I use MX Player with MX Player Codec (ARMv7), according to the description, it provides optimization for Tegra 2.
The app itself wouldn't be the issue, it would be the kernel/decoding under the app itself.
See the system as a several layer cake, with the app on a higher layer than the kernel, so no matter what the app can't fix it. If that makes any sense.
Thanks for the suggestion, and your last explanation makes sense.
I think I have gotten used to the way the videos are displayed - it's stopped bothering me. What has started is Gmail and Chrome instability... Oh, Asus...

Disable h.265 recording

Hi,
As I've seen on gsmarena's review, this phone ONLY records 4k with h.265 codec.
Right now, this is a problem because many phones can't play h.265, google chrome (desktop and android) can't play it, and youtube, google drive and google photos can't process it. (I've tested it)
Do you know if there is a way of recording 4k with h.264?
I didn't find any problem playing my UHD 4K recordings. I transported a recording to my LG G4 as well and I could play it with all players.
Just my Samsung TV reported wrong codec.
Full HD recordings didn't have problems at all.

Any snapdragon 8xx, greater than 800, supports h265 playback. I currently have a Galaxy Note II which features an SD 800 and it can't decode h265.
And, about not having problems with 1080: Mate 9 only records with h265 on 4k. On 1080 resolution it uses h264.
But the point is... Google is not supporting h265 uploading on any of their services (photos, youtube and drive), even when youtube sometimes outputs h265. (On Drive you can upload it, but it can't make the video "streamable")
So... Is there a way to make Mate 9 record on 4K using h264 instead of h265?
My guess is using another camera. I imagine the 265 is there to keep filesize and perhaps iops down.

Since this device is getting a lot of popularity and some updates where launched, I'll bump this post up.
Any news? Has Huawei updated their camera to disable h265 on 4k?
I hope Huawei can give us an option to switch 4k codecs. I dont mind having larger sized 4k videos as long as its a format that is widely supported. One of the reviews stated that recording at 1080/60 produces larger file size than 4k. 4k shouldnt be compressed too much. Or at least give us the option not to
My 4K TV not have any problem to play this video. But VLC in my PC not play correctly.

Yeah, VLC doesn't support it. You have to use the regular windows media player, and it will work. I'm using Windows 10 home, and the regular media player plays it. I tried all the known ways for VLC to work such as placebo and slowest in the codec info settings, and they don't work. It's a known issue with VLC to this day.
Ok thanks. I'll try.
You can also use "MPC-HC" which old name was "Media Player Classic" (it's not the old microsfot media player), there are bundles with a lot of codecs like https://www.codecguide.com/
I personally use the "Mega" variant. I love it because it suports shaders (it's gorgeous to watch 720p and 1080p reescaled to 4k and with 1 or 2 filters of "sharpen complex") and it also has a TON of options.
I've just realised this is a problem for me. I bought the phone also for video recording possibilities and low and behold my 4K won't play on YouTube, let alone upload.
This is a massive flaw IMO with this phone and I'm gonna have to look at offloading it. Shame.

I wouldn't call it a flaw though, your device is using the most advanced 4K codec. Blame Google for not adopting the greatest and latest. But I see your point, you'll have to conform to whatever YouTube supports.

Hello,
I copied the video files from my mate 9 to my pc. I can't play them even after installing klite codec for x265.
Any solution?

Snapdragon 439 and 60fps 1080p problem - is it supported?

Hello, i have Yoga Smart Tab 10.1 (YT-X705F) with Snapdragon 439 and i have a problem i have never seen before.
I just restored the tablet to factory settings. Logged in with my account, updated youtube app. When i open any video with youtube app and set the quality to 1080p60fps, it tries to change it and then it changes back to 480p and i dont see the 720p60fps and 1080p60fps options in youtube app anymore. When i close the video and start it again, i see them again. 720p60fps option does work.
I tried playing video in chrome and firefox youtube player, 1080p60fps works, but its very choppy and slow. I have been having a lot of weird bugs with 60fps videos. For example some videos hosted on my NAS stream OK using my plex app, but some only in plex webpage player, some none at all. I have various android and ios devices at home and havent see this problem ever before. All my media problems seems to be linked to missing/bad 60fps video support.
I have tried several 3rd party youtube apps with advanced settings (like yt vanced), but i cannot get the 1080p60fps to work properly. Same problem with VLC and other video players playing 60fps videos.
Thanks.
Well, so i will answer my question. Lenovo was able to confirm, that this device and chip really does not have 60fps support.

I checked this with our team and they were able to confirm that the Yoga Smart Tab appears not to support that video quality (60fps) feature when used on YouTube and other apps.
