Sorry to start up a SAD SDA topic but it has to be done...
I thought I'd be smart and pick up a broken screen "tornado" SDA from Ebay like some of us have already done. Got it, hooked up to usb cables and my activesync 4.5 picked it right up, allowing me to explore the file system and even browse some naughty pics (oops) that the previous owners had left on there. Ok, seemed to work, could make a phone call with my sim card etc...even without being able to see past the cracked LCD screen.
Next step was to buy a replacement screen, for which I am sure you all have seen the "2125 screen" that is the exact model as a Tmobile LCD. I replaced this and prayed for the best.
The best didn't happen. I got a nasty all white screen and got upset....then recheced the ribbon cable connections and they were appropriately installed.
Same thing over and over. WTF?
I have SOTI pocket controller professional. For those who don't know what this is, it allows remote viewing of the little screen on your PPC phone or Smartphone on your Desktop or Laptop computer's monitor.
It is great for the purpose of checking functionality of a "broken LCD" phone. Everything worked fine on the virtual screen! I even UNLOCKED and SUPER CIDed the darn thing and have reflashed original OS from TMO just to be sure.
WHY ON GOD's green earth can I not get a working display on this thing UNLESS of course, I got ripped off by the ebay vendor. (who never sent me a replacement envelope as promised to swap out and send this one back)
Just venting but seriously, DOES anyone have a solution.
It is not a dead phone, bricked, wrong operating system, or any of the other posited theories here. The screen is just inexplicably white and properly connected. HELP.
Thanks.
I am an MDA owner and just dabble in this SDA thing.
I would love this nice little phone to work..if not, I have a brand new housing, a possibly working screeen (with another phone) and lots of parts for someone..hint hint.

Hey mate, don't loose your faith!!! Redo the connection. The same thing happend to me, and I swore I had pluged that flat connector correctly into the socket and I didn't. Wiggle it, you can't enter it straight in, it has to slide in on an angle. Look at the one you removed. Look at the mark left by the "YELLOW TAPE" that holds the ribbon inside the slot. It will tell you how far in it has to go. Also, there are 2 other contacts that have to be in the propper position. One makes contact between the back plate of the LCD and a mesh looking spot where it sits. It has to sit in place so you have the "ground" on the LCD. If you need, I can put apart my phone and take a close picture and post it for you so you can see what Im talking about. But I'm pretty sure that your problem is just the ribbon not being in all the way. There are 2 sets of connections inside the socket. If the ribbon isn't all the way in, only the 1rst set will make contact, LCD will light up, but, no image. Good Luck and I do hope its as I say. Please let me know here or on PM if you need some pictures.

Thank you for this insightful and confident reply!
I am certain that it will be quite useful to a Tornado user with this problem in general. The screen I got must be defective (too late to return) because this advice above should be the perfect solution.
Didn't work for me though but It is very nice for someone to put the effort into posting in such a manner.
Kudos to a valuable member of our community!
I might fool around and pick up another used T-mobile SDA and pray that I can get one working properly. If this screen works on that one, I guess I bought an ebay dud (masked by the broken screen).
Yes, this phone is getting dated but I really wanted to experiment with new ROMS and push it as far as it could go.

Sad to hear it didn't work for you mate. Well if you get another one, you got that one for parts Gotta be optimistic!! lol
So here's the deal... I'm really sick of taking my headphone adaptor with me everywhere, and I really love my modded iPhone headphones (I removed the standard earbuds and soldered my very nice Sony earbuds to them).
What I want to do (or should I say, what I'm going to do?) is open up my touch pro and find a nice spot to throw in a 3.5 mm headset port. Unfortunately I can't start today (I left my small screwdriver set at school) and I am wondering if there are any internal shots of the device.
Also, should I make a step by step guide on how to do this so others can attempt?
That would be pretty nuts. Where will you put it? Ideal would be right on top next to the speaker. Post pictures.
the place would be near the charing port....
I believe there are shots of the insides of a touch pro in the maintenence documents. I don't remember what their called specifically, but I know I saw them listed on either engadget or fuze mobility at one point in time. I have a copy actually, I just don't know where at on my comp :?
So here's the good news:
I've successfully found the documents on dissassembly of the Touch Pro and Disassembled the device.
I've also found a prime location for the headphone adaptor location, in the top right corner of the back side there is a nice spot, which with some small modifications should be able to seat the needed adaptor.
I know what to wire to which ports thanks to THIS thread.
This hack should work for the TV out reg hack if I assume correctly.
And here's the bad news:
My headphone bottom adaptor has had a wire break on the left headphone, but it should be an easy / cheap fix.
The locations where I need to solder are very small!
I'm not quite sure which ports on the inside are the corresponding ports on the other side, but I could probably figure that out with a volt-o-meter and some time.
So now it's a matter of me finding the bravery and time to do this
Good luck dude...
Yeh good luck. We look forward to seeing what happens next.
I'd love to see this, but probably wouldn't attempt it myself. Good luck though!
Oh, beautiful!
Let us stay up to date, mate.
Status report?
So today I went and looked at some better soldering tools and solder itself, it should work pretty well with my strategy to attempt this maneuver
Within 1-2 weeks this should be do-able!
That's good.
Maybe you could consider makeing photos while opening the phone? Especially of what exactly you are soldering?
That would be really nice, I'm really interested in this project.
If you can make this and it will work and if it won't destroy the beautiful design of the Touch Pro you would be a genious
It would be very nice too if you could make a step-by-step guide....
EDIT: Good Luck ;-)
Doing this today
I am about to do this very thing today and ran across this thread while trying to find the pinout schematics on the usb/charge port. I will try to take and post some pics of it as i go through the process.
If you are looking at the bottom of the phone, with the face turned up, there is room for the audio port just to the left of the usb jack, i plan to drill the hole right where the little usb symbol is at on mine. (vzw 6850).
Love this phone, the only irritation i have is the lack of an onboard audio port. I use mine as a net radio in the truck quite commonly, and I feel that the added weight of the dongle being on that USB port all the time will eventually damage the port,
More to come....
I got this project done. Got a decent pic set of the first part of it. I tried to BBcode the images in and got -

MAAAAN!!! You beat me too it! I guess that's what I get for being too busy
I'm really looking forward to seeing how you did it vs. How I'm doing it though!
edit: I almost forgot to say congratulations bro! I'm proud of you!
First of all: GREAT JOB!!
Can you make an attachement?
If not I will send you my e-mail-address and you can send me the pic
I will attach it then
uuuh yeaht, show it to us!
you could upload the pics also on hotfile or sth. like this.
@benpace:
I don't wanna hurry you but when do you upload some pics of your "construction"?
First man to upload images, details on this will be the one to take the credit.
Come on boys, finish what you started.
Here is a question. Anyone have a good way of attaching their stylus pen to their device so that you do not lose it? I'm thinking like via fishing line or something. Preferably a Touch Pro 2. I have been really good with not misplacing it but my girlfriend misplaced it at my mother's house. Luckily my mother has found it and i will go grab it when i get a chance but i would like to prevent this in the future.
Hello guys. I'm wondering if any of you know of a case with a stand capability for watching movies but one that allows the 8.9 tab to sit upside down so I can shove a flash drive in it.. It would also be great if it had a lower angle for typing but this isn't really necessary.
I know it's a stretch but maybe one of you has been lucky and found one of these.
Thanks!
I have this case http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006OBKDFQ/ref=oh_o03_s00_i03_details and believe it can do that just fine.
If I have to I can take pictures of it tomorrow with a usb dongle and thumb drive.

I personally just ordered this one Executive Roocase I had one for my iPad 2 I just sold and loved it. The tablet is put into a sleeve which has Velcro on the back so when you put it into the case to watch it you can move it to what orientation you prefer.
Thanks guys but I didn't realize that by turning the tablet up side down, the audio jack would be inaccessible
Well, anyway, I ordered the keyboard dock which will solve all my issues. I was looking for anything other than a keyboard dock, but I guess I could live with that too.
You do know they have a media dock that might would better suit your needs, right?
Yes, I do. But I thought I would benefit from the keyboard also, when I actually needed it. Kind of like all-in-one solution. Thanks for the advices guys!
My lenovo p2 display is dead.
All I can do is access Fastboot and on ADB it shows the device.
USB debugging is off and Bootloader is unlocked.
What should i do with my broken phone?
Can I use it to make a old TV smart TV. (like connect hdmi to display port of phone and use USB as keyboard and mouse?
please suggest.
I somewhere read to edit build.prop and edit ROM files and then flashing it, would make device have USB debugging on by default and i would be able to use with some mirror app.
Please suggestions are highly appreciated.
You could host stuff on it but it's not that useful imho. Would rather just use a small Raspberry pi for something like that for htpc or media.
What you can do instead is try to repair it. All you need for a screen replacement is:
- Screw driver with bit PH.000
- Pray tool or use your nails if you have nails (I cut them but obviously not too far. The guy in the video has nails too long looks nasty, lol..) You could use a knife carefully but don't damage the case. The screen doesn't matter obviously because it's broken already.
Screen assembly online (I don't know this seller):
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32893311613.html
It's really easy. On the back of the phone you have two plastic pieces, carefully remove them and unscrew and use a prey tool to get the back cover off.

If you are in this far I would (if I was you) toss in another 10 euro for a new oem bettery I have here one too for spare (from ali seems to be legit, same weight and labels as original I did a compare), also for another 15 euro shipped you get complete original phone case but keep in mind for this you need to have the following tools. If you want the links to the sellers let me know all the parts I did order where original I was surprised. This is why I like Lenovo. Try this with Samsung or Apple. You always get a refurb screen or fake ****ty parts.
Parts needed for when you replace the case of the phone:
- 3M 9448AB 2mm (double sided 3m tape roll 0.5m) use for other parts like buttons and such
- 3M 9448AB 5mm (double sided 3m tape roll 0.5m) use for battery glue
- Thermal paste for the SOC heatsink (yep really)
Good luck :good:
I would totally do that, if it were 2018.
SD 625 is outdated.
I was hoping if i could use my phone processing power to play videos and apps on a non smart TV.
Thankyou for your efforts though, thats a really detailed answer.

Depends on what you do with it in general, but I agree that the software is outdated and probably with new firmware the phone will run a lot slower.
I do still use it but I am not a gamer or "power user", I mean define "power user" on a phone . I use it for calls, text messaging some web browsing and maybe some video's. Still works fine for that purpose, but it got a bit slower over the years because of all the added features and increase of codebase of literally 99% of the apps and google services running in the background.
