Just ordered me one of those.
I hate universal holders and I hate passive holders. This seems like the best choice right now, since the official merchandise is still not in sight...
http://www.pdashop.nl/product/90916/brodit-active-holder-google-nexus-one.html
I have one. It works super. You'll be really happy with it.
Google is missing the boat huge on this car dock.
That's good to hear, MadFlava. I had one of those for my previous phone (Touch Diamond) and that one has served me perfectly too.
Installed mine yesterday. I love it. The cords are ugly but I'll work on that when I get a chance.
Yup, I have one and would recommend them too
Well, received mine today, and... my Nexus One does not fit??? It will not slide far enough over the micro-usb connection.... any of you guys experienced anything like this?
It does not charge now... and there's like 2mm of space left between the bottom of my Nexus One and the holder.. I've used force to some extent, but it just will not slide any further..

I'm new here so I can't post links but go to androidforums.com and search for the thread ProClip Mounting System. In there you'll find a guy (dbpaddler) that has a lot of knowledge about these mounts. He's a re-seller for Brodit I think. Tell him about your problem and maybe he can help.

Sounds very odd. Can you post us a few pictures of what's going on?
See attachment. The micro-usb connector in the holder is about 4.5mm high, but my Nexus One will only slide over it like for 2mm and then it feels like it is blocked by something. I've used force, but no movement whatsoever.
I find it strange too.. I don't see anything odd on the connector, nor on the female connector on my Nexus One. I guess I'll take it back to the store...
How odd. It looks like the connector is slightly left of centre, if you use the trackball to be centre... no jiggling will make it fit?
It may look a bit off-centre due to my photography skills, it looks okay in real life. Jiggling or forcing does not help unfortunately. Of course the connector that came with my Nexus One charger fits nicely, and I don't see any peculiarities when I compare it to the one on the Brodit.
Anyhow, I logged an issue with the webshop that I bought it from and they happen to have a brick-and-mortar store some 50km from here, so I may drop by to demonstrate my problem. Thanks for your help.
Do you have a body skin on the phone?
Nope, no skin. Going to the store later today to have the holder replaced, they think it may just be a faulty unit. Will keep you all posted.
Well, guess what.... just returned from the store, and the replacement holder that they offered had exactly the same problem. The sales guy was as astonished as I was. Personally he had not sold any of these, since the Nexus One is officially not available yet here in the Netherlands, so demand is minimal, but it makes me wonder if I'm really the only one with this problem, and whether my specific Nexus One could be the problem...
Anyway, he took mine back and I was fully refunded, so kudos for pdashop.nl.
Downside: still no carmount for me.
I have one too, it does fit but, I had to wiggle it a little bit to get it in......
It was not just straight forward. I will have a go tonight and see if it still play hard to get.
anyway once plugged, it worked fine for me.
We (both me and the sales guy in the store) used force and wiggled, but to no avail. Besides, I don't want a holder that needs wiggling in the first place. I want it to fit perfectly. That's why I do not buy a universal holder but a Nexus-specific one.
I got mine and it fits perfect.

Yeah update, just tried and fitted like a glove. must have loosen up
does the charger model charge the phone at 500ma or 1000ma? can someone with one check the settings and see if it says charging usb or ac?
The Site is not in english. how do you guys understand what information to fill out when ordering? also can you guys please post some pics? with the dock already in place? just wondering what its going to look like in my car.
Hey everyone,
I'm not sure how many of you are aware of this product but I just found it on sale at Canadian Tire here in Canada and I'm very impressed. It's just so convenient.. I can't believe I haven't seen this before. I am amazed by it, honestly.
http://www.tetrax.com/us
Look at the XWAY and FIXWAY primarily. I purchased the XWAY at Canadian Tire for $30 (regular $50). A little expensive compared to what I am used to, but I am very happy with it so far.
The reasons I like this solution:
Works with any type of device
Sturdy and secure. Even holds me 5" GPS (though I prefer to use Google Navigation )
Allows for the keyboard to be open on most (if not all) qwerty phones
Allows for portrait and landscape rotation
Is not visible when device is on the mount
Is very small and unobtrusive when device is not on the mount
There are no clips or snaps to fiddle with, just slide off the device
You can use this with 4 devices out-of-the-box as it comes with 4 different sized magnetic pads for your devices
This does not introduce a magnetic field to yoru device (the magnet is broken into 4 and arranged intelligently)
The negative things I've discovered about this solution:
You need a magnetic pad on each device you want to use
The XWAY can be accidentally pulled off the vent if you yank the device straight off of mount instead of sliding it off
Depending on your car vents, the angle that the device is pointed might not be ideal
I will post pix tomorrow if anyone is interested! The site has quite a few to look at until then.
Here's some pix!
I don't have photos of it in the car quite yet. I'll try to get some tomorrow morning.
Today I found the FIXWAY at BestBuy and decided that I might like that better since it can be positioned in a better spot in my car. My cars vents are not ideal since the steering wheel covers part of the screen when mounted there. However, even so, the XWAY has been by far the best car mount I've ever seen or used. The FIXWAY should be even better (for my particular car).
I also discovered that the FIXWAY doesn't actually get fixed to the car itself as I thought, but instead it uses a square magnet which you fix to your car. It actually comes with 2 of these in case you want to use this in 2 cars. Like the metal button that you stick to the phone, the square metal that goes on the car has 3M adhesive on the back. It's super strong, works great.
Anyway here's some photos of both the XWAY and FIXWAY I took in my living room.
Very interesting. But, in my feeling, the lack is that we can't orientate the phone ...
I guess it depends how your car's dashboard is angled. Mine faces me just fine and the videos I've seen it seems like most work out fine
And for rotation, you can rotate it any which way before or after your phone is mounted.
I have had the xway for about 2 months now and I love it. If you are attaching it to the vents their is really no reason to have to angle the phone. I agree that if you have some weird vent configuration it may be an issue.

Wow I guess I didn't so the best job at reading through that thread! I even posted a link from there to here on page 11. Good pix though! Thanks
Here are some pix of the FIXWAY in the car without the phone on it (all I had to take the pix was the phone). One of these days I'll remember to bring out the camera..
Oh, and good news... It seems that you can actually angle/tilt the phone with the FIXWAY. It must be the shape of the magnet or something, and the fact that the 'X' is rubber, I am able to tilt it and it holds in place. Not a lot, but enough that I was able to cut down on some glare on the drive home
That's pretty cool, And I actually lik the blob on the back of the phone

It should stick to any shell/case just fine I would think?
For some years I use some velcro (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Velcro). The soft side on my phone, lighter. The hard side on the dash.
Costs almost nothing. Works very well, except in the summer when it is very hot (than the glue gets sticky)

FINALLY took some photos.
I am still very much in love with this thing. My whole family has'em now, which is awesome because whenever I drive any of their cars I'm set
Is it weird that it reminds me of a tie fighter?
Thanks for the recommendation and all the pictures. Difficult to find a mount that doesn't interfere with the camera and/or volume buttons.
So much for being able to watch things for extended periods of time. Why did they have to put the charger on the side with the kick stand out? Is this just to get us to buy the dock? And this is it for the threads I will start, I just thought that this was a horrible idea.
mods can you nuke this, there is already a discussion in another thread.
Maybe it's just my phone, but I can set the kickstand out the use the phone with the charger up.

Mine doesn't stay up like that. If I as much as blow on the phone when it's sitting like that, the kickstand folds up.
The charging port on the side is kind of silly. It's really annoying when typing on the phone while it's plugged in. When holding it in portrait mode, at least.
My kickstand isn't quite strong enough to support the weight of the phone in that position, especially with the power cord in... I guess if I drape the cord over something it kind of holds it up.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Hummmm. I may have to try that when I get back.
I saw the same issue regarding where the charge port was placed. My kick stand isn't strong enough either lol. Maybe we can wedge something there to keep it up.
I'm surprised yours isn't strong enough. Mine seems to be working pretty well. It collapsed the first time, but it does work. I just wish they would have thought this one through before placing the micro USB there. Or flipped the kickstand. My buddy has an evo and he uses his kickstand a bunch. IMO, one of the most innovative designs to come out of the mobile phone industry.

Put the kickstand out and and seat the phone STANDING UP like u would hold it in your hand to make a call, the cord will be on the bottom left side of the phone and it stands up that's what i've been doing. Hope that helps !
Yeah, but doing that makes it hard to watch in fullscreen. I would rather not do that unless I had no other choice. I think the upside down idea will work pretty well. It worked good a minute ago.
my kickstand doesn't support the phone the opposite way...it folds up before i fully let go of the phone.
Yeah that's weird because by kickstand holds my phone in portrait while charging just fine. The charging cable actually helps give it even more sturdiness because the cable kinda lays on the table acting like a brace to keep it from falling over that way.
Pretty strange design decision indeed. I encountered this at work today, trying to use the kickstand with the charger and I was like, umm, noope.
*shrug*
I bet they did it on purpose to coerce you to buy the desk dock. Lmao. And yes its annoying.

if you buy the dock wtf is the point of the kickstand
this design is so dumb
would something like a right angle mini usb plug work? I can't post links, but a quick google turned up a bunch of GPS power adapters...
wow thats so dumb
You do realize that the phone can stand vertically as well as horizontally, correct. The placement of the charger was by design.

I think you missed the point, the poster clearly was referencing wanting to watch media and such in landscape taking advantage of the full screen. This wouldn't work up-right, it has to be on its side.

Yeah, that worked for me yesterday, but it's not particularly stable (like for using as a nightstand clock)...bump the desk/table and it falls over.

Exactly, I'm surprised so many responses didn't pick up on that. Can't watch a movie properly in the current configuration unless you add some sort of block to the left side of the phone (while on landscape mode).
I'm not sure if this is the stupidest power plug location I've seen on a phone, but it's definitely in the top 3 (the Galaxy S phones with the plug on top are pretty stupid too, but at least they don't interfere with a kickstand designed to watch movies with).

Hey jlevy73...another Nexus S user switching away already? The Nexs S is such a sweet device, especially with CM7 on it, but it may still end up being the 2nd shortest lived phone in my ever increasing collection (the iPhone 4 getting all of a 2 week's usage before going into the backup phone pile).
The 4G/LTE of the TB along with the much better voice quality and coverage of VZW (compared to TMobile) were too tempting not to test drive the phone. I'm not sure it's a keeper for me, I'm much too much addicted to the SAMOLED displays, even though the TB has a very nice TFT one, it's not as satisfying. I'll probably keep both, and cancel my AT&T accounts. I only need 2 active phones, not 4, LOL.
Having received my transformer this morning, all I can say is i love it! however, there are definitely a few issues that are bugging me;
1. the build quality. i constantly feel where the outer rim and the back casing are supposed to join, but dont and its a constant remind of its quality
2. the dock. its brilliant but the putting the tablet into the dock is so annoying and im afraid I may end up breaking the mechanism on the dock. which leads me to my next point...
3. connectivity. the tablet actually has about as much connectivity as an ipad, which is a REAL shame. would it have been so difficult to implement a micro/usb port onto the tablet? i appreciate the sd card slot but personally I'd have preferred the micro/usb than the sd card, but hey atleast the sd card works! you cannot really experience the transformer properly without the keyboard dock so when docking the tablet I am extremely cautious incase i do do some damage.
4. trackpad. the two buttons on the trackpad also feel really cheap when pressing. I suppose this is to be expected when paying as little I have for this tablet.
My final issue, for now, is the constant freezing of the keyboard which i believe has been addressed in a firmware update in the US and not in the UK. Would be nice to get it soon! anyone know when we brits get this update, and any other update there is floating around??
there is a USB port adapter being released by Asus in the near future. Also the trackpad feels real solid to me.

they feel like plastic but they feel robust and sturdy to me, or are you experiencing different issues?
happy with the trackpad buttons too..they're robust..
as for the docking mechanism..you'll get used to it eventually...and it's a lot easier to dock after being used for a while.
I have no problems that seriously bother me. If you don't like it there's always the option to return it. I would not keep something that bothers me that much!
I am just waiting to see if its a case of getting used to it, will only return as a very last resort because I'm very happy with the rest of the tablet as I'm sure the majority of transformer users are!
Dock is very solid. And it has usb ports so I'm confused about your review.

i think he means why didnt they add a usb to the tablet as well so if you didnt buy the dock you could have a usb port. i think it would have been a nice feature especially on the left hand side of the tablet where the power and volume buttons are. i do like the dock option especially since it adds more battery life to the tablet.
^ Actually the iPad2 has a dock slot (smartass), it's just basically a keyboard, without any of the usefullness of the TF's dock.
The dock has USB ports, yes, but the tablet itself doesn't. I can see where kashifnazir is going with this; I'd like a USB port - even a micro/mini would do - on the tablet itself as well. If I wanted to just grab something of somone's USB stick, I might not necessarily what to root in my bag for the dock every time.
Regardless, it's relatively minor. The Transformer is still the portable computer I've been waiting for since tablets first hit the market.

I sort of noticed this issue too, but try this:
Press the trackpad button all the way out on the edge. Feels cheap doesn't it? Now press the button about halfway between the edge and the rubber bumper that the screen rests on when closed. Now, it feels almost better than some netbook trackpad buttons I've used.
My thoughts after some time on the TF
Charger: It appears that the charger is marginal at best and when used to charge the TF/Dock combo with medium battery remaining the charger overheats and either dies or shuts down until it cools. I have been charging separately and if lots of charging is needed, do it in increments. Seems to work fine. Excellent biz opportunity design a 15VDC 3.0a power supply with a USB3.0 female connector.
Dust: The plastic protective cover was covered with dust when I opened the box. Luckily nothing inside the TF. ASUS needs to revisit the assy and packaging cleanliness requirements.
UI: Would be nice to have option to move soft buttons from bottom to side of screen as they are easier to access when holding the device.
Case creek. My case is solid, but I noticed that the hinge on the dock is very stiff and I can see how opening and closing the combo by pushing on the TF could easily cause considerable stress on the case causing it to flex.
Overall for an early adopted device I am impressed.

I understand, but from a business perspective, I think it would have been a horrible idea for Asus to include a USB/micro USB port on the tablet itself. They wouldn't have the potential to sell nearly as many docks, and getting consumers to buy both parts is how they've chosen to market the Transformer.
Sent from my HTC Eva 4G using Tapatalk
Just wondering if the transformer could be plugged into the dock either way? As in can you also plug into the dock so that the screen is facing you while the keyboard is behind the screen. I would assume that you cannot but it would be nice if you could dock it both ways so that if you just want a stand and don't need the keyboard you could do it that way.
Man I hope the transformer prime does get released on the 9th and has sufficient stock! I was eagerly awaiting the original but after the crazyness trying to get one I just ended up getting a BBQ instead!
um.. no? you can use the dock as a stand the normal way as well.. just don't use the keyboard I do this quite often when watching videos. Well, I mean, I guess you could do it the other way if you wanted to break the pin connector? But assuming that you don't want to do that, no you can not do that.
Have fun with the Prime! I'll be watching it to see how the developers do with it.. won't be picking one up though.
No need to assume anything. Try to insert the charging cable into the port the "other way" and see if it will fit.
Thanks for the reply. Yah I figured the connection would only work one way.
Really its not a big deal but it would be nice so you could have the screen right at the edge of the table you are putting it on. Really no biggie but was just wondering.
I don't blame you for not making the upgrade. If I had the original I doubt I would pull the trigger on the Prime either.

Yea that would be a good design if they had done that, I guess we need a separate case / stand for using it as a tablet for long periods without the dock
You should email ASUS with your idea

Haha, I was gonna suggest getting an ipad2. While you still can't put in the connection backward with the ipad2, at least you know the best tablet on the market, the one that everyone wants, can't do this and so it's forgivable.
My experience in this is that people tend to complain about everything in a less popular tablet while turn a blind eye on ipad2 weaknesses. Take light bleeds, for example. People have been crying bloody murder about TF light bleeds since day one. Most ipad2 users don't even care about their ipad2 light bleeds. And let me tell you, all devices with ips display have light bleeds.
Actually, let me suggest it now. If you want to be able to insert the connection in backwards, buy an ipad2.
