I know that they utilize different processors, but i didn't know if anyone has seen or heard of any one installing windows 8 on the Tab 2 10.1? I would love to set up my tablet to run both operating systems, but I haven't been able to find anyone with Windows 8 on their Tab yet... Does it sounds like something that might be possible in the future?
The only thing I know about is Launcher 7. Don't know how it would look on a tablet.

windows is closed source so the easy answer is no, you will never see that.

Looks like this is only available on phones... It won't allow me to install on the Tab 2 10.1, but I am gonna try it out on my phone, might be fun to play with. I am also going to try out the Splashtop Win8 Metro Testbed when I get home, looks like it could be a good alternative...

Since win8 is closed source, chances are no. If they somehow open it up then good chance yes.
Splashtop Windows 8 Testbed
OK, so I think I found something that will do the trick. Its called splashtop and it streams your windows 8 on a PC to your tablet. And quite well I might add. I haven't tried it via internet but via local network it works great... I really dig it... not to mention it finally forced me to play around with the new windows OS...
why
why we have windows when we have open stable updated android os?
Don't get me wrong, i love ICS, but I also wanted to test out the windows 8 touchscreen abilities without having to buy a windows tablet.
Hi there,
The app you're using in an RDP or VNC app, which will stream your login sessions to your android. You can try also LogMeIn, PocketCloud, etc. There's quite a bunch of those apps you can use. But its really not the same as having Windows 8 as the OS of your tablet.

WinRT8.1
Windows RT 8.1 is built for devices running ARM architecture the only problem is that you can only install it on devices that already has windows on it. So if you could figure out a way to install it on Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 tablet I'm pretty sure it would work.
You can't.

HI
I recently got a galaxy note 10.1 wifi model and wanted to mirror the screen on my lg smart tv. I understand that both these devices are capable of mirroring but they don't seem to play nice together I contacted samsung customer support and they said look for a 3rd party app that might do it.
I have been doing exactly that since but all i can seem to find are apps that allow file sharing not live mirroring of the note 10.1's screen onto the tv. I understand that samsung have some sort of dongle that might allow it to work but i would prefer not to fork out another $100 for something that seems like it should just work without it. I would prefer to simply use an app that would allow me to connect it via the wifi. Does anyone know of such an app?
Thanks
Allshare Cast dongle or hub is the only way to mirror afaik. I think some newer Samsung tv's might have Allshare built in but not sure about other brands.
Dongle:
samsung.com/se/consumer/mobil/mobil/mobiltillbehor/EAD-T10EDEGSTD?subsubtype=multimedia-and-general
Damn was hoping not to have to buy one of those. I thought with Alshare, dlna and WiFi direct a least one option would just do it. The tv has all those options except allshare it has LG smartshare I believe instead.
Is the Samsung dongle the only one that will work Belkin and HTC make one as well don't they?
I got samsung smart tv with all share cast too, and looking same as you for a way to mirror my screen to it through wifi... its not possible only images and video no screen mirror.
So I guess the the dongle is a must....

I thought that should work due to the tv and the tablet being the same brand and both having allshare cast. My problem is that my tv is an lg tv and the tablet is samsung

Unfortunately Sammy TVs right now do have ONLY AllShare PLAY not AllShare CAST !
Hope AllShare CAST will be added with the Smart Evolution Kit for Sammy TV by March 2013 though.
Right now no mirroring w/o Dongle ..........
One more question about screen mirroring and the need for allshare cast dongle. What exactly does the dongle do that can, t be done with an app? As I understand it with what little knowledge I have is that allshare is based on miracast and so is the dongle, LG's smartshare is based on the same they just both have their own skins overlaid onto miscast technology so you have to go out and spend more money on their hardware to make everything work? What I am wondering is why can't a general app be made that just does the screen mirroring o onto tv's if Both devices are miracast capable, dlna capable and wifidirect capable surely one of these options should allow screen mirroring on a tv without the need for a dongle That costs another $100 or so to purchase on top of the tablet just to get this function. I hope this all makes sense, if someone could explain all this so the dummies like me could understand it that would be awesome. Oh and there seems to be many options for screen mirroring with your pc why is this different?
Thanks

The only way i know of, if you have a capable android phone that you already have hdmi connection to tv, is to use mirrorop sender/reciver app, two apps, one on the note one on the phone, allows you to mirror one android to another vice versa. Ive not managed to get a working mhl/hdmi for my s3, so i dont know if there is a limitation to then hook up the phone via hdmi to tv, wouldnt mind a confirmation on that one my self
Pro
Ive mirrored my note to my s3, anything static it does ok, pics, browsr, pdf, slow/static games
5 minute trial, restart app to reset
Cons
Doesnt transmit sound [i guess the dongle trumps that]
Fast paced games have lag, specifically game controls
Picture quality options at the sake of speed
5 minute trial, restart app to reset

Ive heard of raspber pi project on this, but last time i checked it was for a nexus line and you needed custom firmware

Yeah I looked into Mirrorop but seen as I only want to mirror my galaxy note 10.1 onto a tv it's of no use to me. Funny thing is, is that the LG smart tv I have used to come with a mirror op receiver app p re installed but for some reason it was removed from the model in all countries except China. Sounds like money grabbing on LG's part if you ask me.

One suggestion if you decide to grab the Sammy dongle: register your note on the Samsung web page and you'll get a $50 coupon for the Samsung store. That's how I got mine. Cutting the price in half makes it a little easier to swallow and it does work well certainly glad I got mine.

I've a further related noob question. I have owned my Note 10.1 for 4 days now and have found it great, but I would love to be able to mirror it's display. I actually want to project it (I'm a teacher), but have found a workaround with an iPad where I mirror the iPad to my laptop and display the laptop as normal. Is anything like this possible with the Note?

Hi, I am a teacher as well and am using the Note 10.1 in my classrooms.
I use the Allshare Cast dongle, connected to a HDMI-VGA converter, to the projector. Don't use the converters that don't have a separate power supply; the display will cut in and out because the dongle cannot supply enough current.
Alternatively, you can try using the Netgear push2tv device. The recent beta update enables compatibility with Allshare devices.
If you have rooted your Note 10.1, you need to triangle away to clear the flash counter.

Thanks for your reply. Do you happen to know if there are more than model of Allshare Cast? Prices seem very variable - Amazon go from £30 to £107! I haven't rooted my Note - I'm not really sure what the benefit is - although I seem to have read that it may allow me to access my email through the school proxy, which I can't do at the moment. Can you recommend a HDMI-VGA converter that works?
Do you guys get sound when you conect using the mirror cast not using the dongle I get picture and no sound
I bought new Samsung TV series 6, and it have bulid in Screen Mirroring but in menu options on my Note 10'1 from 2012 i dont have this options.
There is some one hack or addons to my tablet to get this options?
Looking to get an android based device for watching Netflix etc. and streaming from my media hub. Thought about repurposing my Galaxy S2 for this but as I can get at least £80 from mobile trade in sites I figure I'd go for this Justop A10 device: http://www.amazon.co.uk/JUSTOP-Andr...reamer/dp/B00D6LEABA/ref=pd_rhf_se_p_t_2_1QAV and keep the phone for a little longer.
However, I like the google cast functionality of the chromecast (probably work around this by using Chrome-to-phone) and the price of the chromecast. If I go for the Justop device (unless someone can recommend a better one at a better price) would it be unreasonable to expect that someday a developer will release a ROM that replicates the Chromecast? Is there anything that the Chromecast can do that these generic android sticks can't and vice versa?
Thanks,

Yes. Just get the chromecast if it does what you want, because it already does it. Well, once you can buy one. Keep in mind that it requires chrome on a PC someplace to play local files.

Decided to go for the Cozyswan S400 (also known as Justop K10A) in the end as will do everything the chromecast can do and more. Also want to start developing my own ROMs for android sticks so will give me a good device to test on (similar, if not identical, hardware to a lot of the other RK3188 devices).
Will probably pick up a Chromecast to play with when they arrive in the UK too as £20-25 is too good an opportunity.
Good afternoon everyone,
I wonder if there is way to have Gear2 to work with Windows Phone 8.1.
Does anyone know anything about this?

I really can't conceive how you'd go about this. The watch is Tizen based, and all the applications for it go through Android. There is no Windows equivalent for the watch to interface with.
So far as I know, windows phone 8 is not supported by gear2 (neither tizen, nor android wear)
Andyroid
I've loaded andyroid on my t100ta, its slow but it runs. then you can just emulate a rooted note 3, and run samsung gear as normal... this method might work for windows phones too,
I have an unlocked 635 around here somewhere I'll try it on. hmm where'd I throw that thing.....
"NM", theres no usb or bluetooth across the emulator, only connects to another vm, such as developer SDK's in my case. Good news is it will run on the nokia 635, just kind of useless atm, unless you want to side load games...lags like crazy though after alotting 1.0gb and 1 core....I'll update if and when I can get this working....
Hello team,
as a simple Web Developer (Wordpress, React, Node.js and so on) I am completely excited about Linux On Dex possibility. Currently having Samsung Galaxy S9, which has 4gigs of RAM and it is absolutely not enough - so I am waiting for Note 10 so bad!
Anyway, let's get to my question.
Linux on Dex is a fantastic tool for daily use yet it is not perfect (I know, freaking beta!). Do you think with Note 10 official release will be LinuxOnDex app update released as well? Do you have any info from Ubuntu team, if they work on better Ubuntu image for Samsung Galaxy phones?
It would be so disgustingly awesome if I could just run LOD right out of the box.
Please, share your thoughts!
Kind Regards

I am half expecting LoD to come preinstalled. There were rumours about it even running wirelessly a while back, now that would be awesome.
One thing i'd really like is for the Linux container to gracefully autostart and stop with the phone outside of Dex, so I could have my DevEnv permanently running on my phone like a portable server. I could then run a MOSH session from my tablet or desktop, as well as through Dex.

Hey man,
super happy to meet somebody else who is also so much into Linux on Dex. You can run LOD wirelessly through VNC! On youtube there is a video "Linux On Dex Remote" by MRP - check that out -> I have tried this and works for me. Unfortunately, as I said - I have s9 which does not have enough performance for it.
I expect the update quite soon since Tab s6 was released yet LOD was not updated. Will see, will see
Meh, two more weeks and my hands will be holding Note 10+ 512gigs already, can not wait!

I ALMOST ordered the 512GB. I even wanted a black phone. But that Aura Glow is just so unique, I had to get it, and it's only available in 256GB. But honestly, I never even came close to using the 512GB on my Note 9 and only got it for more RAM. Now both variants have the same 12GB RAM. I can add a microSD card, and it saved me $100. The more I see videos of the Aura Glow, the happier I am that I pre-ordered that Cole.
Currently LoD app says "Your device is not supported" on Note 10+ :good:
Might not be as simple as it sounds, but has anyone decompiled the APK your talking about to see if its device restriction is in the AndroidManifest file.
Alter to remove restriction and recompile and test. Am not sure about the App your talking about, i cannot find it.
Any news guys? I got Galaxy Note 10 + but I could not make LoD running. Honestly speaking, I'm a bit pissed by the whole DeX experience so far.
Yer best waiting for a updated app, Modified the App to allow it to run on my device. Loaded a container as with the operating system.
But it fails to boot with just a (Please wait) Loading popup and does not move from there. So regardless looks like it needs updating for proper support.
I have sent two emails to the LoD team @ Samsung, and shocker... they have not responded.
Really hope this is available soon for the Note 10. This is the main reason I got this phone to begin with.

How long do we have to wait to get this *that should have been live on release day!* going?!?
My best guess is that Samsung blocked support for Linux on DeX after getting into bed with Microsoft and that really sucks. The official response from Samsung is "we cannot speculate on when support might become available" and they have marked the support request as "solved". I call B.S.

Samsung just emailed me:
End of Linux on DeX Beta
Thank you for supporting Linux on DeX Beta. The development of Linux on DeX was all thanks to customer interest and valuable feedback. Unfortunately, we are announcing the end of our beta program, and will no longer provide support on future OS and device releases.
NOTE — Linux on DeX will not be supported on Android 10 Beta. Once you update your device to Android OS 10, you will not be able to perform a version rollback to Android Pie. If you decide to update your device to Android 10 Beta, we recommend backing up data before updating.
