I did some searching and have not found an answer. Just bought a new Pixel 4 Xl and followed the steps to pull the data from my Pixel 2 XL (using a cable). Everything went smooth except my 189 apps now need me to sign back in. Is there any automatic way to make this happen? Just trying to save some time.
Thanks.

Hi Everyone. As the title states are the failure rates on google devices crazy high? I originally got a google pixel XL 1 for free after the battery issues the original Nexus 6P was having. I've had to deal with constant device replacement every since. I've had to replace it 3 times in a very short period for internal speaker thats used for phone calls failed (i could hear people's voice but they couldn't hear mine). Now last night i go unlock my phone and i see the following error message on the lock screen
"fingerprint hardware not available"
so i reboot the phone and the fingerprint settings even disappears from the settings menu. I call google support and they come to the conclusion its hardware failure.
I don't abuse my devices at all and if you look at my current pixel there isn't a scratch on it. This fall it looks like i will need a new device (i'm using an old device i had laying around the house for now). I much prefer android but if i can't get a google experience device then i will got back to IOS (i want updates). Samsung have beautiful hardware but i want updates. So i would like to get maybe a pixel 2 xl (if i get great price on one) or a pixel 3 xl this fall but of course i don't want to deal with these hardware failures anymore. Any advice would be appreciated.
We have no idea if the Pixel 3 will have any major issues. No point in worrying about that before the phone has even been released.
The hardware failure issues with your Nexus 6P and Pixel XL are unrelated. It doesn't mean Google phones have a high failure rate. The 6P was known to have battery issues but going through several RMAs fir the Pixel XL could just be bad luck.
From what I've seen the most common issues with the Pixel 2/XL have been less severe than with the Nexus 5x and 6P. The Pixel 2 XL seems to have had more issues than the Pixel 2 but even those are pretty minor compared to the 5x bootloop and 6P bootloop and battery problems.

Yes, Google devices have had a long history of issues:

That being said, the Pixel 2 and 2 XL appear to finally breaking that trend.
The latest Pixels are headed in the right direction...
So my Pixel 1 ordered on release date two years ago started crashing and locking up every time I made a call. I've factory reset, and tried different sim cards with no luck. I was thinking about upgrading anyway, so this put me over the edge. Otherwise, this phone seems to work flawlessly.
My question, if I keep it and figure out a way to sync photos taken from my Pixel 3 to the Pixel 1, can I keep uploading to Google Photos for free? If this is possible, does anyone have a suggestion for a method?
May be, if it is working.
I'm going to get an OG Pixel or Pixel XL, to use as a Google Photos uploader
(I'm ideally going to aim at the 128 GB model, if that is relevant)
I understand that both of these phones have been plagued with batteries bricking, and other bricking-issues
I want to know which one is the more reliable of the two. That-is, which is going to be more likely to last longer, used just as a simple uploader, without issue
Any thoughts?
I bought both.
Actually, I also bought two XL but returned one because of the battery issue... that XL would shut off randomly at like 20% and charging to 100% then restarting would show like 60%... but leaving it plugged in seemed fine. Either way, didn't want to risk it and the seller was willing to refund the phone.
Personally, i'd say get the non-XL version. Both phones get quite hot and may refuse to upload to Google Photos if they are too hot. My solution is to get a Black Shark FunCooler 2Pro (it's essentially a peltier cooler for your phone). It gets the Pixel back surface down to 17C and keeps Google Photos uploading happily.
Hello,
I am not able to transfer my apps, sms, photos etc. from my old samsung S9 to my new pixel 6a using a usb C to usb C connection. I removed Smart Switch from my old Samunsung as this was the app that was starting automatically. With the Smart Switch app, I was getting into an endless loop where I was being asked which app to use.
Note: my data are encrypted on my samsung phone. Is it the problem? When I first got the phone, I was able to transfer my S9 to the Pixel 6a with no issues. I have the screen flickering and greenish display issue on my S9 and did a back up and restored the backup to the phone hoping it would solve my issue. All went fine but when I restored the backup, I was offered the option of encrypting the data on the S9... so, now, when I start my S9, I have to enter my passcode to decrypt the data and use the S9 phone. That is the only thing that has changed as my S9 was restored to what the backup I chose.
Thanks!
Have you found a solution to your issue yet?
And I hope you don't mind me asking, but how do you like the Google Pixel 6a over your Samsung Galaxy S9? I'm switching to a P6a from an S9+ too, and I'm really excited about it! (I'm sorry this isn't related to your post.)
I switched from galaxy note 9 to the 6a yesterday and my note was not encrypted and was rooted but stock rooted, I simply connected the pixels charger cable to both phones and off it went without any issues. I already don't miss the curved display and to be honest this could be the 1st phone in years I don't root. I've only had it a day ( as of 26/11/22) but so far everything seems good apart from fingerprint scanner, does seem to struggle a bit especially with thumbs.
The situation & what I've tried
I dropped my Pixel 4a 128GB UK Unlocked and since then I always have no signal. The same SIM card works in an iPhone and another Pixel 4a, however.
If i dial *#4636#*#* and go to Diagnostics, the mobile radio power is off. If I turn it on it goes back off after I re-enter the menu.
My fingerprint sensor also became intermittent, however the repair shop guy diassembled my phone entirely and reconnected everything and since then it's working fine.
He said he also reconnected the modem antenna cable and flex cable underneath... I can only hope its true. Didn't work apparantly.
My plan & questions
I have another working Pixel 4a I got for really cheap (broken glass but works and displays fine).
Can I transfer the following parts from it to my other Pixel 4a without issue? Mainly I'm thinking of:
Will the IMEI change? If yes will it automatically become valid on my new phone?
The 4a with working modem is 64GB while the phone I want to repair is 128GB, is it fine?
The 4a with working modem is running Android 13 while the phone I want to repair is running Android 10 August 2020 (I don't plan to update) - will flashing the same exact version onto the working 4a before doing the transfer make sure its running the right baseband version / firmware or whatever, and will this be all I need to do?
Anything else I should be aware of?

Other notes & more questions
Currently, my screen isn't glued on, the repair shop guy kindly left it unglued so any self repairs I do are not as risky.
Ideally I'm going to try and find a repair shop willing to do this for me, however I've not found any so far.
Still I have another question, did anyone here previously purchase the official Pixel 4a adhesive from iFixit from the UK/EU Store?
If so, when did you purchase them?
They're out of stock and have been forever, and it means I can't get the iFixit kit with battery + adhesives which would save me like £50 vs alternative sources.
I'm also planning to replace the battery on my phone - should I just follow the normal battery calibration steps there after installation? Anything special for the 4a?
All help appreciated.
