Hello there,
I would like to know if some other users are having issues with tha pictures and video apps and what solutions if any. I received my nre Z3 and from the very first time I started tu use it I'm having serious issues. The issue is that everytime I turn on the phone's camera the phone turns very hot, it also constantly freezes out and the camera app crashes. It happens for pictures and for videos. I already own a Xperia Z1 device and know how to use the camera and settings and knoe that this is not normal. I tested the camera with the lower screen brightness possible and also with and external SD card with the same results. For worsen the situation, after being taking family pictures for the last 2 days, the pictures and videos started to become not accesible nor visibles. At the moment when the pictures were taken they were visible, but after a while, some of them can't be opened anymore. This firstly happened during the afternoon for some pictures taken during the morning, then later, 3 more. It has continued damaging pictures. Right now the device has did the same to 20 pictures and videos from nearly 50 taken. I rebooted the phone, restarted and also reset the phone and it is still showing the same bahavior. This phone has not been rooted and has been kept as it was when received. I never had these issues before with other phones. It is a D6603, running Kernel version 3.4.0-perf-g0961 cdf, build 23.0.A.2.93. Any fixes or suggestions? Is it real that this unit comes with factory unlocked bootloader? Could it be a software issue regardless hardware?
A couple of things in there immediately hinted me about your SD card, I mean not all your issues seems to be that but about the videos and photos been there and then don't is a symptom of a bad sd card.
Just to see what happens put another card, if you don't have it, just remove it and save everything to your internal storage and try a couple of videos and pictures again to see what happens and let us know.
I highly doubt it comes with an unlocked bootloader, but this does sound like a bad SD card. You could also try using a different camera app, although personally I don't think that will help much.

I tested with and without the use of an external sd card and I'm having the same issues. At least using the phone's internal memory I haven't lost any more pictures for now. I'll test during the day, but the phone's still getting very very hot and the camera freezes and app crashes.

That's exactly what I thought, and the reason I wanted to split your issues in 2, it's easy to relate one to the other and confused about it, but now that you know that are 2 separate things it's easier for you to approach it.
First, your SD card may be one of the thousands of fake 32 or 64 GB generic cards around (and even "Branded" ones, China is getting better by day on that department), they behave just like that, I just got another one of these last week, so don't waste any more time on it, it won't never pass from about 4GB of maximum storage, even when in your computer or phone it shows as a 32/64GB card it will allow storage for up to 4GB and then simply begins giving you all those issues.
About your phone getting warmer or hot while in the Camera App, this is an old issue with Sony Devices, it's more common on hot places like for us down here in the Caribbean, the first day I tried my D6633 it did that, I tried it a couple of times and the same, don't ask me how, but it got better, a lot better, to the point that hasn't happened to me again, only thing I did, as far as I can remember was using the Manual modes, and disabling the AR Effects and Fun Apps, the same 2 that while using them was the first time my phone got hot.
YMMV but it worth a try, obviously if you live in a hot weather place, using the 4k video feature will bring you the warning and it's normal that it will get warmer than when using regular features, but other than that, for me, not even a single occurrence after I disabled the AR stuff.
I've seen questions about this with no definitive answers. So.......
I'm having issues with my camera and have searched around but nothing has worked. I've had this phone since it came out and haven't ever had this problem until a few weeks ago. I have removed battery, cleared camera cash and data and a few other things with no luck. I'm still on 4.4.4, build AOC2 and haven't even tried to root or anything. The camera failing to open started a few weeks ago but now is getting more irritating due to the often recurrence.
I would like to know why my camera is failing all the time now. It will work for a while after a reset or sometimes it will work once then fail upon opening the app.
Any ideas?? I haven't done a factory reset and do not plan to. I do not want to upgrade to the newest version lollipop or whatever it is now.
I have had my V20 for about 11 months (how time flies ) and was eventually able to redeem the 100GB google drive.
It used to fail when I tried redeeming it earlier. I have tried it over 10 times under my period of owning it even when I factory reset the phone.
Anyway, my phone started lagging and it actually shutdown 2 times in last week. This prompted me to factory reset it. After setting it up again, I wanted to restore my LG backup from my google drive. As usual, the notice to claim the 100GB drive popped up again and just for the sake of it, I clicked yes. Surprise surprise, it was successful.
I will advice all who have been having issues redeeming theirs to clear app cache and retry it.
Dammnnn
It worked! ?
Thanks Man!
I have 1tb from one drive for all of $60 per year for 5 people which includes office for 5 people.
Cleared cache rebooted phone cannot seem to activate it.
did mine when i got the phone ..... i loose it next year .. the space not the phone

Try clearing data!
For me i just cleared my drive app data! And relaunched the app without reboot! And then after it popped with a message of 100gb storage!
If you've had the 100GB offer in the past and you claimed it and you still have some in use, the 100GB offer won't work (at least I've never heard of the same Google account being able to get this offer twice in the period of time it's been around. I'm not sure it would be valid even if you did take advantage of it and then it finally expired so you'd get it again, but I can't say that for sure.
I know I have at least one Google account that had 100GB of storage for a year and that runs out in a few weeks so I have to remember to grab that stuff and move it to another location so I'm back down to the original 15GB or whatever the default amount is nowadays per Google account.
I've done some searching around and tried quite a few different things.
I recently had my pixel 3 (not xl) rma replaced because of a screen tint issue and am unable to oem unlock my replacement (the option is greyed out)
This is the google store unlocked version, on the nov. 5th security update PQ1A.181105.017.A1.
I've tried factory resetting numerous times with and without sim card in place, connected to wifi, 3g/lte, and nothing.
Any tips or advice would be appreciated.
Just wanted let you know that you're not the only one with those issues. I have the same phone, also updated to Nov. 5th update, have tried factory resetting it about seven times, sometimes with SIM, sometimes without. Sometimes on WiFi, sometimes skipping it. Sometimes doing eSIM, sometimes not. Always the same issue, the OEM unlock button is always blocked.
Well after being on chat support with google for about an hour last night they advised me to RMA the phone, kind of a shame but hopefully third time's a charm.
Please keep up posted. I just got a replacement with perfect screen (to my eyes) and for the past couple of hours I could not get the toggle to enable. I really don't want to let it go and end up with a screen with any worse tint. The release this year is more doomed than ever...
Yeah I had the exact same problem, first phone had this horrible gradient issue where the bottom half of the screen was horribly washed out/green tinted, got my "current" one that was like 90% fine on the screen but couldn't unlock it, was more of a deal breaker than the screen was tbh.
Just wanted to update that speaking with Google Fi yielded no results. The associate was super nice, and took extra time looking into it before letting me know she really couldn't find much about OEM Unlocking in her support database at all. After some discussion we decided to try the RMA route.
When you did your setup, did you connect it to WiFi or did you skip it knowing you would format it during unlock? I know I personally skipped as much of the initial setup as possible.
Sounds like the exact same behavior as Pixel 2 RMAs widely documented here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-2/help/oem-unlocking-grayed-vzw-pixel-2-t3776763
Probably same "bug" and Google just doesn't care about this stuff.
Well after testing my first device before sending it in for the RMA after factory resetting it, it was able to oem unlock without any internet connection/wifi and skipping all setup, should be getting my third device today hopefully.
Just saw this. Congrats! What did you do differently that made the eighth time work? =D

Ah nvm, looks like it was the original device, not the second? And there's a third device (second replacement) coming in?
Big thread on this in the P 3 XL forum. Many P3/3XL are shipping with this incorrectly setup. Appears that unlocked phones are shipping with a Verizon configuration.
I know there are memory management issues with this phone; what I'm not sure though is if the behavior I'm experiencing is just a manifestation of this well-known problem or another issue.
Since I got the phone a month ago, after some period of use after rebooting, simple actions like switching between two apps can cause the phone to hang for a long time - usually 20 or 30 seconds. The phone isn't completely hung - I can still go back to the home screen, and do some things, but whatever app I tried to switch to will be non-responsive for this whole time. Eventually, it will just start working again.
Other times, typing using the google keyboard will get stuck - that is, I can still type, but nothing shows up in the field where the text should appear. After a while it will suddenly "catch up" and everything I typed appears.
These two issues both seem to start happening around the same time, so it seems memory use related, but the amount of time involved seems very excessive for swapping.
I can fix this just by rebooting, but it always comes back after a while. I suspect it's related to how many different apps I've loaded and not just time of use, though, since sometimes it won't happen for a day or two, but it always happens again at some point.
I removed a bunch of apps that were migrated from my old phone (a Motorola Z Force), too, to try to eliminate a badly-behaving app, but I never had any issues like this on that phone, and it didn't make any difference.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Or does it sound like a possible hardware problem? I don't want to swap the phone unless it's clear this is abnormal behavior. Thanks.
It's abnormal behavior. My first thought is it might be related to a balky network or intermittent connection. Just a wild guess. Do you see the same issue in airplane mode? Also, if you check battery or cpu usage is anything hogging resources?

I've used the phone in exactly the same circumstances as my prior phone (and other devices) so I don't think it has to do with network connectivity; but next time it happens I'll try switching to airplane mode just to be sure. There's no visual indication of a network drop (e.g. wifi status icon). I haven't checked for anything hogging resources during these events, and generally I'm not having any battery life or performance problems. It's just switching apps that brings everything to a standstill for a while, and then it works fine again.

Maybe check the temp when it's stalling. This app might show something: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.glgjing.stark&hl=en_US
I have the exact same issue as OP describes.
Had a 64gb Pixel 3 when it was first released and it manifested the issue with the random hangs and freezes. I decided it was too buggy and returned it.
A month later got a 128gb Pixel 3 on the gift card promo and it is exhibiting the same issue as the OP and my original 64gb unit.
Doubtful it is a hardware issue since this is my second one with the same issue.
I have tried factory reset and removing any un-necessary programs on both, but the condition still persists.
Both phones were on Fi.
If the January patch does not fix the issue it will be time to switch back to iPhone.

Mine's 128gb (Verizon). The January patch looks trivial so not expecting any change here...
Not going to switch to iPhone but troubling that you have had this with two different phones. At the same time, pp seemed to think this is not typical behavior, and if it's a common OS issue then wouldn't a lot of people be talking about it? I'm not a crazy power user or anything, I never play games, pretty much use Waze, whatsapp, camera, facebook (lite), spotify, etc... really pretty standard apps.
I wonder if there's something unique to us that could be involved here? I'm not using any apps I wasn't using on my old phone, but I also had Oreo before and not Pie, so not a direct comparison. When I first set up my phone, though, all my old apps were migrated, including some Verizon bloatware I couldn't delete from the old phone. Is it possible that apps that were automatically migrated (but later deleted) could have left something behind that's causing issues with PIe?

I have have been on Google phones since Nexus 4 and upgrading like a good consumer every year.
Like yourself I am not doing anything crazy and have the run of the mill stuff like FB, Snap, kik, Whatsapp and IG. The only thing out of the ordinary I have on the phone is Cerberus and BlackBerry email.
Apps don't get migrated so that is not the issue. When you setup a new phone or transfer, some of the data is moved, but the app is re-downloaded from the app store.

Right - but it installed -everything- I had on my old phone including some Motorola & Verizon apps, which I then uninstalled (but maybe even missed some). Just thinking it might be possible that something hardware-specific to my old phone got installed on the pixel. In theory shouldn't matter but there seem to be so many nuances to Android, particularly across major releases, that I wondered if this could have been involved in the problem.
Anecdotally, it seems like it's been happening less often over time. I haven't had it happen in a few days, though I installed the update yesterday so I'm within 24 hrs of a clean boot now.

I've been having exactly the same issues for the last couple of days. Have just done a factory reset but the problem persists. The biggest issue is that when the phone is locked it seems to freeze as well and takes about 15-20 secs to unlock. Also if you phone it while its locked (and frozen) the incoming call isn't acknowledged (no ringing !) until after its unfrozen. Looks like I may have to return it and get a different phone !
Mike
More than a few people have been having issues with their Pixel 3, but I've yet to experience a single issue with memory management or slowdowns. In fact, I've found the Pixel 3 to be a far smoother UI than the iPhone X on the newest versions of iOS. Maybe I got lucky, but I'm more inclined to think it's about use. Just like my desktop operating system, I start from scratch every time I do a reformat, reset, or upgrade of a device. I can see there being issues with migrating old data. I'm also a fairly light app user; I've got around 100 apps in my drawer, most of which are Google apps or banking apps. Are the people experiencing these slowdowns installing a lot of things or running more resource intensive apps like Facebook? Not to say you shouldn't be able to do that with your phone, but I'm curious how behavior differs in our situations.
Feb update?
OP here, so more than a week since the February update landed and I have not had this happen since then. I'm kind of shocked, honestly, and keep waiting for the other shoe to drop, but so far it looks like something they did fixed this.
The only other significant change I made was to uninstall the Facebook Lite app, a few days ago, but I've used that long before I had a Pixel 3 so doubt it's related. So... :fingers-crossed:!!

Maybe I should give Pixel 3 a try. Tried P3 twice since October and it was a phenomenal laggy mess specially under load ... My Pixel 2 had its ups and downs, specially with the Pie release. Took them 3-4 months to 'get it right' so I'd expect Pixel 3 to be no different.
I was experiencing some lag and short freeze (2 to 7/8 seconds) with my pixel after the latest update.
I tried a factory reset with little hope but it seems it did the trick for me. No issues ever since.
