EMUI 10.0 for P20 Pro CLT-L29 - Huawei P20 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi there, I am looking for a way to force update android 10 to my P20 Pro, Its the CLT-L29 version currently with build number 9.1.0.383 and I bought it in Pakistan, updates here seems to take quite a while as compared to other places. Also, I am facing some issues with Bluetooth connection with my car speakers. Hopefully, the update might solve my problem. Would be grateful for any help

There is no update for emui 10 CLT-L29 ATM online. Version on firmware finder is only available for india region

The EMUI 10 (Android 10) beta program got closed some months ago. So we have to wait for the official rollout in march/april.
I'm part of the beta-program and already using Android 10 (10.0.0.145 C432). I can confirm that all Bluetooth issues I had before are gone. Especially with car Bluetooth (there was a lot of stuttering with Android 8 and 9).

My second Phone honor 20 lite get the New update (Android 10/emui 10) and the flagship is waiting........

No more Huawei for me unfortunately. While it is a good phone, updates are not existent. Android 11 is coming out next month and we're still on 9. LOL.

I am the same opinion!
Besides, Huawei leaves out P20 series from 10.1 update.

Absolutely my next phone one+ 8 pro
F*ck huawei, you killed my p20 pro!

its bad phone ever ! never buy again !

I really love my P20 Pro, but the Updates... I remember to go to 9 with the modded hisuite because my phone did not get the update.
Without the Google Services its anyway not useful for my to stay with huawai, but because of the bad updates and support my next phone will not be a Huawai.
And i will look for a phone with updates min 3-4 years, is there a phone with that support?

That is not exactly true.
PIXEL phones are updated for 3 years. That is according to Google's support page.
Following that, your only option is get a popular unlockable phone and install Lineage OS. This gives you longer support.
Your options here are basically Motorola or OnePlus.
Huawei likely would have survived its anti-consumer change in bootloader unlocking stance and slow software rollout alone. However, coupled with Trumps war on Huawei, I expect them to pull a HTC and drop down to irrelevancy within a couple years.
I bought a P20 Pro because I had owned the Nexus 6P, which was the best smart phone I have ever owned. Had I not dropped it into water after after cracking the screen, I would still use it since it is far more usable that the EMUI infected P20.
I cannot imagine any situation where I would buy another Huawei product after this phone.
It is a pity. They may lovely hardware. EMUI is simply this ****tiest software to ever been placed on a phone. I would say even original touchwiz was less annoying.

camera function on EMUI 8 is better than EMUI 9. Hope it will come back in EMUI 10.

At least Apple actually updates their software for several years. Unlikely ****ty Huawei or Samsung.
Spend a thousand bucks and get two years max of support. Or spend 1k with apple and get 5.
Seems like a better deal to spend 1k every 5 years than 1k every 2.
Of course, no one would actually spend that much on a Huawei so the carriers need to massively slash the price.

In fact spend 400 on the SE 2 and get 5 years of updates. I'm seriously considering it as my next phone, I know people bash the looks of it but I loved my 6s and genuinely don't have an issue with it.
I do like my P20 Pro but the lack of updates (even security ones are slow) is just pathetic. I'd go for OnePlus but even they're expensive these days.

Will the Honor 8 receive anymore further updates?

I just bought an honor 8 and I read somewhere that it now will no longer be receiving any further updates and no upgrade to Oreo. Is this by chance 100 percent correct? Amy info on this would be greatly appreciated. If it will not be receiving any further updates from Honor then I may return it. I just am not sure what's true on this. Thanks for the help on this.
This is not true. Huawei has not officially confirmed or refuted anything. But I would personally prefer Honor 9 at this time, the price is not so much higher than Honor 8.
Yeah but I personally don't think we will ever see the Honor 9 in the US. My prediction is that we will get the Honor 8 Pro here in December before Christmas. Just a gut feeling as the Honor 8 name is already so widely known here that it just makes sense that they will feed off the Honor 8 name and release the pro model of next here. I just wonder about the current honor 8 and if it will in fact get more updates.
It Will receive further updates

That's good to know. How do you know this for sure though. It's that a definite? There is another thread that talks about the honor will now no longer be receiving updates. Was curious how you knew for sure?
Atm i'm running the B394 rom and on Firmware finder there are already B350, B351 and B135 Roma (all beta) so an update is coming soon.

That's really good to hear. I'm glad to know that. I thought it was the end for the honor 8 to be honest.
Seems like after doing a lot of research on various forums the majority of people say the honor 8 will definitely keep receiving updates for a while to come. That's a very good thing bc I just bought my third honor 8 and this time I plan to keep it long term. I typically go through a lot of phones testing out new gear. I finally decided that the honor 8 is my all time favorite phone which I do not consider EMUI to be Android at all. In fact it's nothing like Android. It's so unique and different I've said many times in the past that EMUI could easily be branded and marketed as a third major mobile software choice in the industry. I believe since they could not be connected to IOS they were forced to be thrown in with Android but it's nothing remotely like pure android at all or what so ever. In fact I find EMUI to be as smooth interface wise as apple IOS where most Android interface with skins are rather choppy and sticky. Not EMUI as it's butter smooth and very fluid. Huawei Honor has definitely created a unique hybrid software that it cannot be compared to anything at all. It's in a league of its own and as soon as they officially entered the US market full blown watch how fast they over take Samsung for the top spot. The interface of the software is a joy to use. Zero lag at all. It's as fluid as IOS so there is no doubt it will fast become the most popular in the Android world if they don't decide to Branch out and brand their own software to be labeled as the third major software choice within the mobile industry. I can't wait until they enter the US market and I believe within two to three years they will be equal too or above Samsung for the top spot world wide. It'll be interesting to watch take place. As long as they stay true to their core roots in terms of pricing with high end budget phones such as the honor 8 and leave the Huawei side as their premium flagship phones there is no way they won't over take Samsung. Huawei honor is deep with their variety of offerings with the likes for example the honor 8 which is a very affordable phone but it indeed has flagship specs and a awesome camera. I hope their next US release for honor is the honor 8 pro. It has a 5.7 inch display and would be a great media phone for movies and YouTube and such. I'd love to have one to rotate out with my honor 8. The reason I believe the honor 8 pro will be their next US honor release is bc the honor 8 is already widely known in the US so it makes sense for them to keep feeding off the honor 8 name and release the pro model next.
Why will Honor 8 not get the Oreo update? It's last year Honor's flagship, every flagship gain two next androids versions at least...
Just what I had been reading on other forums and here lead me to that. I now think it will. I excited to know this now.
I don't know if we will get Oreo. However, in regards to general updates, my FRD-L14 just received the B389 update today. I think it mainly just updates security to the Oct 5th patch, at least it is an update.

I sure hope we get Oreo. Technically we should and I really think it would be a bad business decision on Huawei honors part not to give the honor 8 oreo due to how close it is before they enter the US market full blown and officially. They don't want to enter this market on a bad note. Plus this is honors flagship phone for the US. They would loose a ton of US customer support if they choose not to update this phone to Oreo. They didn't climb up to number two in the world based off of bad decisions for their customers so I think we will get it but it will be very late to the party getting it.

Mate 9 and custom Roms?

I was thinking of getting Mate 9, and i just noticed that there are not much development of custom roms like other devices such as LG and samsung, is there a reason or just the mate series not getting much attention?

First and second both.
Reason - You can build working boot from kernel sources. But camera will not work.
And Mate 9 has not much developers.
But in defense of phone I can say that it is great device. We are able to root and Magisk, install every stock ROM, rebrand between localizations, use Xposed. Stock ROMs are good, quick and have many useful functions.

Oh thank you for your reply. :good:
can please explain what does the "rebrand between localizations" means? because i ve been reading it everywhere but not able to understand what does it mean and its purpose? and does that void warranty?
Also, someone told me on a forum that if you bought huawei from a specific region like Europe and you are using it outside of europe, as in not european simcard, you will not receive updates ? only until you use a sim related to where you bought the phone from? is this related to the "rebrand between localizations" ?
You are correct there is a few variants, Chinese normally get update faster believe it's running beta 8.0 atm
I have had many flagships in past 5 years, all oneplus, s7, s8, LG g5, 6p,
Pixel is my backup phone.
If you can get the mate 9 at a good price I swapped mine for an iPhone 7, as don't like Apple and prefer big screens.
It's a cracking phone.
The os is on par with oxygen imo.
Screen is great 1080p,
Battery life is exceptional 7hours sot out and about.
Rooted and using magisk for Android pay.
Ohhh and has stereo speakers

Rebrand between localizations means that you are able to buy Chinese model MHA-AL00 with Chinese ROM and rebrand to world ROM and vice versa.
Models are same by hardware.
About sim and updates - yeah, problem still exists. To get updates quickly after they released need phone with proper region/localization and proper sim.
So, I live in Russia and have Russian operator's sim. I bought European Mate 9 cause Huawei doesn't sell Mate's series in Russia (Russia is C10 in Huawei customization). My chances to get update on my MHA-L29C432 faster than European owners are very small. Fortunately, it is not problem to me.
P.s. I told that chances are small but they are not null. Huawei rolls on some ROMs to all after some time (about month)

What about updates? do you expect getting oero and so on OS ? since there are not a lot of custom roms?

Google suspends Hauwei Android license.

Just read this: https://www.theverge.com/2019/5/19/18631558/google-huawei-android-suspension What a blow to Huawei, I don't know if I should sell my Mate 20 x now or wait and see what happens. Will we still get security updates? Is Huawei developing their own app store or will they use Aptoide?
Yeah waiting on this too. They should just make their own operating system. They are a big company.
Looks like they anticipated it and may be prepared: https://www.scmp.com/tech/big-tech/...s-built-its-own-operating-system-just-case-us
Without Google, they are done. My next phone won't be Huawei.
With this news I expect Huawei to be more open again, release thier source code and provide bootloader codes again.

That would be how I would think too. However, I'll bet you it pans out the opposite and Huawei double downs on the bootloader and source code shenanigans. You know, I don't think Google's stance has anything to do with the bootloader tightening.
Also Intel, Qualcomm and Broadcom suspends Hauwei. But do they need them? Huawei has it's own chips and was busy making a new OS.

Such great timing....I have been holding on to my Z3 Tablet Compact for a LONG time and finally when I pull the trigger on the mate 20x, this happens!
Alarming but let's see how Huawei reacts, we will get EMUI 9.1 for sure but that might be it.
For the short term, they might Bridge the gap between Android 9 and 10,by implanting new features into the existing EMUI.
TBH, i don't see viable alternatives to 20 x

IMO this is a huge opportunity for Huawei to reap the benefits of some free positive PR.
Moving towards AOSP, giving the community unlocks and sources, and eliciting sympathy from the public due to the US' obviously ludicrous stance.
Could also help move people away from Google, and US tech giants' services, which are far, far more of a concern re: privacy and snooping, for anyone living in the West.

They don't come close to 20x, well at least we'll get EMUI 9.1, just hope it will come fast enough.
Mi Max 4 is reportedly 19.5:9 or 19.7:9.
That's a joke for screen size that tall. What's it useful for?
That's hardly a replacement for the 8" 16:10 of the tablet / phablet, or even the 6.9" 18:9 of the Mi Max 3.
Wonder if the non Chinese versions will get support for a longer time than Chinese, at least for the short term. If that was the case, kinda wish I could rebrand...

What do you think about Huawei ban?

As title say: tell me
meh! no source release, no bootloader unlock...... nothing of value has been lost! as you can see here, there is little to no custom ROMs so your stuck with EMUI. ill gladly buy a oneplus device over a huawei if there are no other alternatives. thankfully i have decided on the zenfone 6!
Good. Kind of happy. Hope Huawei will go down for not updating C636 device
It's political BS, but Huawei weren't supporting the Honor 8 anyway, so it's not affecting us.
Independent development is a joke, official support is worst... this is just another nail in the coffin. It doesn't matter the reasons, only the end result.
Goodbye Huawei/Honor.
huawei could have been huge in the north america if instead of their closed source chips they used snapdragon chips. sure they spend a bit more but using snapdragon chips also allows huawei to keep their secrets to themselves while giving the rest of us what we want and deserve..... sources! also, i think LG should just **** off already! not allowing bootloader unlocking on hardware that you own is bull****! this should be a law. the right to repair act should cover this kind of thing but here in the US corporate money keeps the govt on their side. if the EU could make this happen it would be amazing!
Should Have been banned 2 years back. Atleast I would not have wasted my money...
Now after just 2 years of usage I have to upgrade. I use most of my phones for 4 years..
How are the Pixel 3a's in comparison to the Honor 8? As far as performance goes?

Yeah should have been banned before honor 8 release, then many early adopters wouldn't have been conned into buying their crap device.

what really stings yet makes me laugh is that this device is treble compatible and has not custom ROMs other than the openkirin stuff. other devices are able to boot tons of GSIs but not the honor 8.
im happy that i dont have to deal with EMUI but honestly, omniROM is that much better of a ROM. im sure huawei will work something out eventually but i just hope that their reputation is bombed to hell at least here in north america. maybe they will go back to using snapdragons for us which will give us tons of ROMs and a longer usage life.
They're not going to start using SoCs developed by a third party when they make their own.

EVR-L29 (international version) EMUI 11 stuck in 11.0.0.140

Hi,
Huawei keeps updating our Mate 20X, to our satisfaction I would say since it's just such a good phone...
Per some sites, Huawei released some weeks back Android May 2021 security update. And before March Security update...
Huawei Mate 20 devices (EMUI 11) starts getting May 2021 security update [Global]
Huawei is delivering a new software update for one of the popular smartphone lineups around the world, the Huawei Mate 20. This previous-gen flagship lineup has a separate fan base and satisfying its users with its camera and hardware performance. Due to its popularity and core configuration...
www.huaweicentral.com
The issue is that my phone seems to have stopped receiving OTA updates and I'm stuck on 11.0.0.140 which has January 2021 Security update.
I live in Portugal and I've reach out to Huawei here about this. Their feedback is that my phone is up-to-date, contrary to those articles.
Anyone else having this issue? If you've received recent OTA updates, can you please comment with the version and country where you live?
Thanks.
I called Huawei support today. They confirmed we will not be getting any more security patches beyond Jan 2021. This phone isn't even 3 years old yet. My wife's Oneplus 6 is bang up to date. The Mate 20X was the last Huawei I'll ever buy.
Yes, same feedback I got from Huawei in Portugal.
What's strange is that in some countries or perhaps just to the other Mate 20 models, Huawei is still releasing updates -- not considering the Mate 20X 5G which should still be in Huawei's monthly security update cycle.
Anyway, the page of the link above, shows what seems to be a Mate 20 (model ?), receiving EMUI 11.0.0.158 and a previous article from Huawei Central, shows one in Germany receiving update .150.
My interest here is mainly the Android security updates. Except from this, my phone is working fine...
as per usual, such updates are rolled out in vastly different time frames for different regions (china, asia, europe, global, middle east, etc.) and also phone types (i.e. the linked article ONLY mentions Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro, but NOT the Mate 20 X). so no choice but to be patient and share info here whenever we have smth new
im on a chinese EVR-AL00 with Mar-2021 security patch, emui version 11.0.0.139.
edit: ok....LOL, so after posting this i got curious and checked update status in settings, nothing there. so i went into the my huawei app, selected china as region, went into the support section and updates, checked there: bam, update available to 11.0.0.155! changelog: nothing exciting, just improves system stability in certain situations. installed update (no change of security patch btw, still march), checked again in my huawei app aaaand: update available again! this time to harmony OS 2.0.0.165!
however, im not proceeding with that one, im skeptical of that half baked try by huawei to "fake" a new OS (fake because its still based on android 10, imagine that...) and rather stick to emui for now...
besides, im actually planning to roll back to emui 9 in a few months, unlock bootloader and try my luck with GSI roms to upgrade to android 11 or even 12 ^^ could be exciting if it works, havent found anyone yet trying it on a 20 x...
Actually, the experience with Harmony OS so far is excellent. Everything works just great, no problems with any app, excellent battery life...
Plus, the version 2.0.0.165 is on July 1st security patch...
This thread scared me into start looking to replace my Global 20X. A couple of days later I got 11.0.0.155 with July security patches, nice!

Haven't noticed worse battery life but I didn't really keep track of how many hours I got before. I never used the screen sharing feature.
The phone that I found that is somewhat close to the 20X is the Infinix Note 10 Pro NFC. I am a little tempted to get one of those from Aliexpress just to try it out and resell it if I decide to stay with my 20X

Looks ok? can't imagine you'd get many security updates. Prob better of with the 20X if thats important. As much as i dislike Samsung, the A52 5G can't be ignored at £409 The promise 3 years of Android upgrades and 4 years of security patches for just over £400!

Mate 20 X was released BEFORE the embargo, so it has always had Google apps, and still has on Harmony OS...

ahh i didn't know it still had Google Apps. Would you recommend moving over to Harmony? Just re-read your post. you do recommend. How did you upgrade? Do you have China model?
Yes, after reading through the Russian forum on 4PDA carefully I deliberately bought the China version. It was very good decision.
Is there a way to get harmony os on EVR L29 GLOBAL VERSION MATE 20X
