S9 plus not receiving OTA after moving to another country - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
I used to live in US and got an S9 plus from AT&T. I moved to India (in July 2018), got it unlocked by getting the unlock code and procedure legitimately from AT&T. Put a Vodafone India sim card. It works fine since but I have not received a single update since. Last update is June 2018.
In sw information Service Provider SW version shows
SAOMC_SM-G965U_OYN_ATT_OO_0073
.......
ATT/ATT/ATT
As I use this phone for work, our company mobile management tools prevent the use of rooted phones. How can I start receiving official OTA updates without tempering with the legit status of the device.
Thanks.

Because Vodafone does not offer updates for your model number. The carrier controls the updates and which devices are supported via update. Your device is not a Vodafone device, it is an AT&T device being used on the Vodafone network. If the original AT&T US stock firmware version is working fine, you should be able to download any updates that are available for your specific model number and then flash them manually.

Thank you for the answer. What will be the legitimacy status of the device after that? How do I flash manually an update? Do I need to use Odin or similar, since Samsung tools look at the CSC?
Thanks for your help!

Yes, use Odin. Find the updated firmware, just make sure it is for your specific model number and your region/carrier.

What will be the legitimacy status of the device? And where can I find a legit fw for G965U ATT. I couldn't find any so far.
Thank you for your help!

moving to another carrier, what about future firmware updates?

I'm moving my SM-920V from Verizon to Tmobile. My baseband version is currently specific to Verizon so when I switch will my future firmware updates be coming from Tmobile and will the baseband version change to reflect Tmobile?
I guess what I'm confused about is if I were to manually download and install a future firmware would I be looking for one that is Tmobile branded for my phone?

if you are going to change just sim card then you will never get updates from tmobile but if you change your cell phone to tmobile variant then you will get them.

That is what I was mainly wondering. So it sounds like it is safe to download the tmobile firmware for my model of S6 and install that firmware when I move to Tmobile? Or did you mean if I change out my actual phone (hardware) to a Tmobile variant?

Thanks, while it's downloading, I'll give it the good college try to try to find a current version online too but so many places are full of clickbait links that they're worthless.
I would *consider* signing up with sammobile but I hate to give any cc info out to online places like that.

Can I flash this on my unlocked SM-G965U1? I use AT&T as my provider. Also, if I needed can I go back to stock? Thanks.
I have an ATT S9 plus (already unlocked with codes from Ebay). So this flash will make my ATT ver become the Unlocked ver? I need the hotspot feature of the unlock ver. I don't need Wifi calling or VOLTE from ATT ver because I have never use those.

No it won't... I've flashed the G965U AT&T firmware on to 5UI unlocked with AT&T user data and both the home csc and regular csc files, and none of the carrier specific software works. Furthermore, you will limited to only 4G speeds during phone calls on the 5UI, at least with a AT&T sim card. This is my biggest pet peeve with this phone.

I don't know what I may have done differently, but did exactly what you did and I have everything working. Flashed AT&T rb7/rbg and user data over stock u1 firmware after factory reset. Volte/wifi calling, lte during phone calls and video calling work for me. I'm att/att/xaa, knox wasn't tripped.
The only thing I have as a complaint is it doesn't fetch ota's. So I have been reseting and Odin-ing updates as they roll out.
Thanks op for the files

Hope you do not mind me asking but I am new to Galaxy devices. Nexus/Pixel was always my choice but after having a bug filled Pixel XL 2 I decided to give the S9+ a shot. Not familiar with how the firmware for them work so I thought to ask you since you look to be very helpful in this thread.
I have T-Mobile S9+ which was updated to latest March 1 security update. I would like to flash it to the unlocked firmware. Is this https://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model?record=182E00202C6211E89F15FA163EE8F90B the same unlock firmware you posted?
Would I be able to use WiFi Calling, HD Calling and all other features on T-Mobile with the unlocked firmware?
Thanks for the help!

I should state that I'm up in Canada, so we're using a different set of regional codes. Nevertheless the latest avialable build I see is: G965WOYV1ARC1 (I have no idea what security level this is). My carrier is still on a February security patch level with build number: G965WVLU1ARBG.

I would be very careful in attempting to load another regions firmware on your Canadian variant. There have be some users who have reported ending up with a bricked device attempting this sort of update. While you can find stock Odin files for our devices, it's still on the v1 bootloader. Not worth the pain...

Let me know if you successfully flash on your device then I'll do it as I'm from Bell mobility
I got the downloads to go through. Will report once flashing is complete. Not sure which firmware will be on the phone when it arrives (att variant) but I'm gonna be flashing u1 then newest rc6 TMobile firmware. Hoping to have full features working as if originally a TMobile variant.
On a side note (mods please excuse) but Samsung. Com has the att variant on sale $639 ($200 off) and since I'm trading in my old s7 I'm getting an additional $200 off so $439 ($466 after tax) for a brand new s9+! Once i flash the TMobile firmware I'll be happy and for $400 off!
Anyone know if i need to sim unlock before flashing this? I've read about having to flash the unlocked rom before flashing the T-Mobile Rom and that's my other question. Can i just flash this tmobile firmware to the phone fresh out of the box or do i need to go to unlocked first (doesn't seem right) and put my TMobile sim in and be good?
My thoughts were that i could just sim unlock thorough a 3rd party then Odin the TMobile firmware and be done. Thanks

You have to unlock your device first, before flashing any other firmware besides your carrier firmware. Flashing unlock firmware, will not unlock your device.

SIM unlock has nothing to do with firmware/rom flashing. You can flash to any U/U1 firmware you want and your device will still be in the same carrier lock/unlock state it was before.
T-Mobile does do things a little differently, however. Flashing a different firmware won't SIM unlock your phone, but I do believe you need to be on a legitimate T-Mobile firmware to unlock the device via their built in unlocking app.
Awesome thanks guys. Will just get a 3rd party unlock service then flash.
If you got it from [email protected] they will unlock it free of charge. And if you didn't I would still try with them first before paying
Will use it to update my converted s9 plus from att to tmobile firmware.
I tried to search for updates in the menu but it says phone is already up to date. But version is RBG.

Im just waiting for Rogers in Canada to push out their latest update, which they say is now available, and its not. I want to see if they have updated from U1 to U2 before taking the plunge with this firmware.
What's the benefit to having T-Mobile f/w over unlocked? Or what's better about having unlocked? I'll be using it only on T-Mobile.

OTA updates outside of intended region?

Hello good people of the XDA forums,
I live in Canada and recently ordered a Galaxy A51 off of Amazon, only to find out it is apparently the Latin American version of the SM-A515F variant. Using my Canadian sim card, will I be able to get get OTA updates on this phone from Samsung or not? If it comes to it at the end of the day, I suppose I could live with manually updating with Odin (how that works I have yet to find out), but I'd definitely not prefer it. As of this moment I'm still stuck with the December 1st security patch and version A515FXXU1ASL1. I got this phone just this Friday and didn't even receive an update as I was setting it up, which certainly worried me.
Also, and on a related note, because this is the Latin American version, NFC is disabled. Is that something that could be changed as well/be fixed in the future?
Thank you so much for your help y'all

I definitely haven't gotten any updates. Is there any reasonable reason why I'm not getting updates but you are? I'm with Public Mobile, if that makes a difference. Would it have something to do with my sim card? The country code on my phone is TPA, which from what I've seen is the Latin America/Panama model.

Samsung S10e not Receiving Updates (SM-G970U)

Hello guys,
I bought my brand-new Samsung S10e this year in early July and I havent received any update since the January 2020 security patch, which I assume was installed when the phone was manufactured. I was wondering if there's any issue with my firmware or anything. I have seen some recommendations for firmware flashing, I am a bit freaked out about it as I have never done it and I dont want to brick the phone. Additionally my phone is the US variant (Snapdragon) and New Zealand where I live has Exynos for the Default, further convincing me that the phone might have no compatible firmware for where I live to receive updates. I also read that it is not possible for Snapdragon to be rooted and so I was wondering if I could get comfirmation as to whether or not I could use custom ROMs. Any help, suggestions, or recommendations would be greatly appreciated, I am desperate for anything.
Phone model number: Galaxy S10e SM-G970U 128GB
Thanks in advance
