OTA updates outside of intended region? - Samsung Galaxy A51 Questions & Answers

Hello good people of the XDA forums,
I live in Canada and recently ordered a Galaxy A51 off of Amazon, only to find out it is apparently the Latin American version of the SM-A515F variant. Using my Canadian sim card, will I be able to get get OTA updates on this phone from Samsung or not? If it comes to it at the end of the day, I suppose I could live with manually updating with Odin (how that works I have yet to find out), but I'd definitely not prefer it. As of this moment I'm still stuck with the December 1st security patch and version A515FXXU1ASL1. I got this phone just this Friday and didn't even receive an update as I was setting it up, which certainly worried me.
Also, and on a related note, because this is the Latin American version, NFC is disabled. Is that something that could be changed as well/be fixed in the future?
Thank you so much for your help y'all

I am also canadian who purchased international version on purpose(easy to root international)as soon as i put in my sim i recieved an OTA notice.
Mine happens to be panama latin america. I recieved u2ata8 update. Whatever you do,DO NOT FLASH ANYTHING BUT INTERNATIONAL FIRMWARE VIA ODIN. IF YOU FLASH CANADA FIRMWARE ON INTERNATIONAL VARIATIONS THEN YOU WILL HARD BRICK. Also you will get odin fail if you have U2 in your firmware. Cannot roll back to U1

If I'm not getting prompted for similar updates does that mean I'm probably not going to be getting OTA updates? I believe my phone is the Panama version as well.

You are correct but if mine got January and February update then yours should also. Mine is DualSim

I definitely haven't gotten any updates. Is there any reasonable reason why I'm not getting updates but you are? I'm with Public Mobile, if that makes a difference. Would it have something to do with my sim card? The country code on my phone is TPA, which from what I've seen is the Latin America/Panama model.

No idea. All i know is whenever there is a panama ota update I get it

I also ordered an A51 off of Amazon. I have the Latin American model and got an update to the February security patch not too long ago. It should work fine for you!

Do you have a link that explains what you're saying in detail? I'm trying to learn the details of this. I have a Latin American phone (DS) that I'd like to root.

mate 9 c636 update question

Sorry if this has been answered before
I have a c636 for a little more than a week now.
I am not in Malaysia though... Actually in Trinidad and Tobago
Would I get notifications to update via system update here?
Reading the posts here I see some say i would need a Malaysia sim card... But others don't.
Right now I'm on b158 (phone came with this installed)
Any clarification here would be much appreciated
I've always used a T-Mobile sim in the United States and I've gotten updates without C636 region sim.

B172 just published on Mar 16 but OTA rollout depends on which country SIM. Only Huawei knows
My past experience if you're on Malaysia or Taiwan SIM you may get OTA update notification within 1-3 weeks.
I'm in Singapore but I used my Malaysia prepaid SIM to get OTA updates coz the Singapore SIM usually almost the longest before getting OTA updates

Would it have worked for you with your default Singapore sim if you just waited?
The rest of us with the c636 in the West were a bit in the dark with that to do.... Especially with this strange funky update method
Thanks again
Yes but for whatever reasons Singapore SIM update is always much longer than Malaysian SIM. That's why I usually use my Malaysian SIM to check and download OTA update
B158 is the latest official update
B172 is latest official since Mar 16.
Just a matter of which country SIM that Huawei choose to schedule the OTA
I don't really mind waiting a couple of weeks for an update. So long as it's not addressing some critical security flaw anyway. I just hope they keep bringing them on a regular basis and don't just abandon the phone once they release a new model.

If I remember correctly I got it like a week or so after I saw a post on here for B158. So hopefully a similar delay again not sure when B172 came out though might have already been a week.

S9 plus not receiving OTA after moving to another country

Hi,
I used to live in US and got an S9 plus from AT&T. I moved to India (in July 2018), got it unlocked by getting the unlock code and procedure legitimately from AT&T. Put a Vodafone India sim card. It works fine since but I have not received a single update since. Last update is June 2018.
In sw information Service Provider SW version shows
SAOMC_SM-G965U_OYN_ATT_OO_0073
.......
ATT/ATT/ATT
As I use this phone for work, our company mobile management tools prevent the use of rooted phones. How can I start receiving official OTA updates without tempering with the legit status of the device.
Thanks.

Because Vodafone does not offer updates for your model number. The carrier controls the updates and which devices are supported via update. Your device is not a Vodafone device, it is an AT&T device being used on the Vodafone network. If the original AT&T US stock firmware version is working fine, you should be able to download any updates that are available for your specific model number and then flash them manually.

Thank you for the answer. What will be the legitimacy status of the device after that? How do I flash manually an update? Do I need to use Odin or similar, since Samsung tools look at the CSC?
Thanks for your help!

Yes, use Odin. Find the updated firmware, just make sure it is for your specific model number and your region/carrier.

Samsung S10e not Receiving Updates (SM-G970U)

Hello guys,
I bought my brand-new Samsung S10e this year in early July and I havent received any update since the January 2020 security patch, which I assume was installed when the phone was manufactured. I was wondering if there's any issue with my firmware or anything. I have seen some recommendations for firmware flashing, I am a bit freaked out about it as I have never done it and I dont want to brick the phone. Additionally my phone is the US variant (Snapdragon) and New Zealand where I live has Exynos for the Default, further convincing me that the phone might have no compatible firmware for where I live to receive updates. I also read that it is not possible for Snapdragon to be rooted and so I was wondering if I could get comfirmation as to whether or not I could use custom ROMs. Any help, suggestions, or recommendations would be greatly appreciated, I am desperate for anything.
Phone model number: Galaxy S10e SM-G970U 128GB
Thanks in advance

Your best option is to download SamFirm 5.0 and download SM-G970U1 firmware XAA code. Youll get updates then. Search how to use SamFirm and tutorial how to flash with patched Odin.

It's still being released in batches , all s22u models should have it by the end of November
Okay thanks. It's annoying as users in the uk are now getting one ui 5 on the s21 ultra.
In the how to section, there are instructions to flash it manually if you have the tech skills
Okay thank you. I am familiar with Odin etc so shouldn't be an issue. I was more worried that as I have the snapdragon variant in the uk will I still receive OTA updates, or will I always need to flash manually?

you will get the updates if you dont root the phone, it doesnt matter where you use the phone.
your phone is the us variant because you live in the uk doesnt mean you will get the update for that phone because we have been getting the update you will have to wait till the firmware is released in the usa

Depends a little on what is happening.
If you don't get an OTA download, but you see on SamFirm that there is an new firmware for your phone. This can sometimes happen, in that case one way to resolve it is to download the new firmware from a reliable source and flash the phone with Odin. Once done it generally resolves itself, and the next OTA just works normally.
If there aint a new firmware for your phone like its a carrier specific version for your phone, then your out of luck, as you will have to wait for your carrier to make it available. Now in this case there are sometimes options, like i had one phone with a carrier software, but i could also flash the regions general firmware that was available, or one from an other european country. But how this works for your country, you will have to look that up.

Thanks bro i usually download with friza and never encountered any issues but il take your suggestion...my device is open and unlocked we in india dont get carrier locked devices bro...also can u share a valid and reliable link for sm-s908e with ins as region...thanks bro
For unlocked devices the upgrades usually take longer because they need to be sure that it will work with all possible carriers. As an example, I have a carrier unlocked device in Argentina and only 2 days ago I finally received the Android 13 update. So, did you checked in the official pages that there is a new version for your phone?

Maybe handy to look up on YouTube to see how the process goes, if you dont feel confident in doing this, maybe they can do it at some phone repair shop or something similar.
There should also be a lot of Indian people who wrote about flashing the rom of you phone in your own language.
