How does the Camera software work in GB?

Through a long boring series of accidents, I am now pretty much stuck on the ROM that's installed on my tablet. It's a pretty good ROM, but it has a bug in the camera software that prevents me from recording video from the front-facing camera. With the rear facing camera it records just fine. I guess I can live with it if I have to, but everything worked perfectly on the stock rom that came with my tablet. So I'm wondering how deep into the guts of the tablet the software for the camera has to go, and if there's any hope that I can replace the faulty bits of software on my current OS with the working bits from the stock OS. Both are based on Gingerbread 2.3.5 so I'm hoping it's possible.
I've tested a few replacement camera applications from the google play store, but they are all unable to record off the front camera, so I think this suggests that it's an underlying driver or other library thing. Does anyone know what files are associated with interfacing the camera to the camer app? Are they independent of the kernel, or is the kernel part of this mess? I can still flash a kernel, but I haven't tried for fear it will mess up the current ROM.
Let me be more specific about the problem:
1. front camera works fine for taking pictures or streaming over wifi/3g with those types of apps
2. If I'm using the rear camera I can switch to video mode, but if I then swap to the front camera the app force closes. Conversely, if I'm using the front camera and I switch to video mode, the app also force closes.

How to remote control phone's camera via gear s3

Hi everyone. I have question, that i can remote control my phone camera via a blutooth device (gymbal, selfie stick ...) to take a picture in my phone. How can i do that with my gear s3, taking a photo in camera app is running in phone.

I am also curious if I can use the watch to call the camera shutter. So that it worked like a Bluetooth module for $ 90 from aliexpress.
I do not need camera preview. Simply calling the trigger (stock camera LG G5).

Many app can do this, i install in my s3 the app Wrist Camera and allow me to take photo or video from my phone and can see in the s3 sreen what the cam phone is looking

Anyway to lock the pop up camera? - Snapchat

When using snapchat the pop up camera plays wack-a-mole while navigating menus and such... (opening and closing constantly)
Does anyone know if it's possible in general to lock the camera with another app or a mod? I don't want to stress the lifespan of the popup camera.
It would also be a super useful security feature as I've found the pop-up camera coming up when on Instagram and not even in the camera...

Go as if your going to take a picture and switch to the rear camera. Once you do this it will always think you're using the rear cam and stop the front camera from popping up when I'm camera mode.

Yes, just default to the rear camera...

Note 20 Ultra Camera Issue

Since the Samsung camera app was updated, I am having a very annoying issue. When the camera version was the one where you choosed the camera (wide, normal or tele) with a "leaf" the camera was amazing. Now, with the new camera version you don't choose the camera, you instead choose the zoom level. That means that you press the 5x button on screen and the camera digitally zooms in from 1x and then it changes to the 5x tele (if it decides to). That is simply absurd, because it can take a lot of time to change the camera and many times I need to take a fast picture of my children for example.
I attach an example. I have been pointing to that picture for at least 30 seconds. It even suggests the picture composition, but it DOES NOT CHANGE to the 5x camera!!! Why??? Why change something that worked flawlessly as it was??? This rendered my phone almost useless, because the 5x camera was the one I used almost always.
Is there a way to install the old camera version? Even if it requires to install a custom rom.
