Mi Note 10 Pro / CC9 Pro Premium AMOLED Burn-in - Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Questions & Answers

Got it 2 days ago, barely even used it, still waiting for unlocking permissions...
I believe it's just Temporary Burn at max brightness but I've never seen it be so obvious on literally ANY display before!!
The shadow you're seeing is caused by the Brightness Slider in dark mode, and can be recreated in less than 5 seconds, and goes away after 20 seconds
I read somewhere in the MIUI forums that it could be a software problem regarding MIUI 10/11's advanced display algorithms, but I highly doubt it as I know the system only changes the overall contrast based on lighting
I did multiple tests with dimming On/Off, and compared it to my Mi8 SE running some Xiaomi.eu MIUI 11 beta, it's a completely new problem on the Note 10
Please test it yourselves as well, I'm looking forward to detailed replies
Many thanks!!

I have mine by 2 months, mi note 10 with cc9 pro xiaomi eu rom, started noticing the same things latest 2 weeks ( you see it better in a dark enviroment ).
Max i reach is half brightness, can't stand more, so i can guarantee that is not because of max brightness as i've seen that happening even with just like barely readable brightness.
Reading mode and anti flicker don't help.
I can even assume that with anti flicker on ( that i always have ) is worse.

UPDATE:
The problem has gotten much worse, does anyone know who's manufacturing these for Xiaomi / Huawei?

The problem has gotten much worse, even the white text I'm typing right now in the XDA Labs app is leaving light shadows when I backspace, I'm %99 sure that I have a factory deflect, and no warranty, so I actually might end up replacing the screen in a few months if officially stated fixed versions become available

Visionox manufacfure the display, not the usual Samsung xiaomi used for their oled. Samsung is prone to burn in too, every oled is, but it is clear that quality talking this display is inferior to the Samsung one's, never seen this kind of ghost burn in until this phone. Let's hope will always remain only a temporary burn one

This is unbelievable... even the Samsung Galaxy S5 mini has far superior image quality and calibration

I don't have any burn-in problems yet but I can agree with you about the calibration and quality issue. Even when I change it to warm or cold, I can't notice a big difference, and I don't really like the colors it shows. Most of the reviews say this phone has a great screen, I don't think they were lying but there must be a problem with the quality standards of the brand of the screen. My 3 years old S8 Plus shows better colors with its cracked screen, which is annoying.

Screen issue? (uneven brightness/darkness)

My OP6 have this uneven lighting on my screen. It is visible when you have a dark grey background, in a dark room, and the brightness is on 5%-10%. It's also visible when you open up chrome app and close all the tabs until you got nothing but a dark background and a + for new tabs. Is this normal? Or should I RMA it?

Here you go
I don't think that's normal at all. At least my OP6 doesn't have that. The brightness is even across the entire screen.
Normally the issue only have Huawei and the LG OLED Panels.
OnePlus 6 have an SAMSUNG Super AMOLED Display, and there is no issue with uneveness Display in low brightness.
Can anyone else confirm this if it's normal or not? Please try again and use this image i attached. The uneveness is quite visible with it.
Go in a dark room.
Full screen it (make sure there's no other bright elements are showing).
And lastly, set your brightness to about 10%.
Please tell me it's normal :/
*edit. Funny, can't seem to upload the pic.
Welp.

@aserate: I have the same issue. I tested it yesterday and saw some lines and uneveness.
Im happy, that I bought the OP6 from Amazon. Now I give the OP back and buy the Mi Mix 2S without AMOLED.
Only Samsung build AMOLED Display without uneveness and lines. I tested the screen from Mate 10 Pro, P20 Pro, Google Pixel 2 XL, LG V30, OP 5T,...
All of these smartphones had a problem with the OLED / AMOLED Displays.
Im wondering, that the user, who test the phone for YouTube or a mobile site, dont see the bad screen.
I bought the Mate 10 Pro 3 times ans the P20 Pro 2 times from different stores. All the devices had a bad screen.
I hate the UI from Samsung, that is why I only buy now smartphones without AMOLED, only IPS or Super LCD.
I don't have this issue. I checked 5 different OP6 units and all were ok. Only one had some slight uneven brightness, but not as visible as on your picture.
Appreciate your feedback. I guess i have to rma this since it's clearly an issue. Praying the replacement won't have this. Sad to know after watching linus' op factory tour with all that quality checking and stuff, common issue such as this still exist. Welp.
There is a way to completely deactivate the top part of the display to completely hide notch. But I don't want clock on the left of the notch I want it on both. There is a way?

Rubbish? I´d tested all of the phones:
- S8 & S8+
- S9 & S9+
-Note 8
All of them don´t had any display issues.
I´d tested:
- Mate 10 Pro
- P20 Pro
All of them had uneveness and lines on the OLED Display
I´d tested now:
- OnePlus 6
THis phone has uneveness, too.
Now I have OnePlus 5T and this phone has a perfect OLED display.
If I have the chance, to get a samsung phone with OnePlus Oxygen OS, I would like to swap asap!

i rest my case as you said all are perfect this proves other wise
Got the same issue. Also on my fourth device already because of loose alert sliders. my fourth device has a loose alert slider and an uneven screen. right side is darker than the left side and its noticable in dark menus, notification shade etc on low brightness
No problems for me here in terms of uniformity.
Great panel, but I wish the calibration was better:
- calibration too cold
- oversaturated
- gamma way too high
- black crush
I had this problem in 2 Oneplus 6. I made a RMA and got a new unit, without the banding, but a defective corners (a white glow in dark images). So I got another one, finally a perfect unit.
The other one was purchased via amazon, with the same banding issue, so I got an exchange.
All of them were red Oneplus 6.
The OP customer service was very helpfull resolving the problem. I give a 10 to them.
Anyone can check the screen with this images or an app called oled tools. You need a dark enviroment and low brightness
Im kind of hestitant to replace since im on my fourth device already and dont feel like waiting anymore. Thinking about returning and waiting for the 6t. Id have to use my galaxy s5 for a few extra months though...
I just received my replacement unit 2 days ago, I was waiting for it for almost a MONTH. Unfortunately, I still have the screen issue. I can't believe I was waiting for nothing. While waiting for the replacement, I only used a f***ing keypad phone, and it was really hard for me. Have I known this issue is fairly common, I haven't RMA'd my unit just to have a big chance to have the same issue again.

Does Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro has the same screen problems like OnePlus 8 Pro?

Hello,
I have OnePlus 8 Pro and Oppo Find X2 Pro.
Under 5% screen brightness OnePlus has huge black crush.
They fixed it with beta DC patch, which makes colour accuracy hitting the floor.
Oppo has very small black crush on minimal brightness level.
Both Oppo and OnePlus have the same screen model (just differently calibrated - OnePlus has extremly vivid calibration just like S20 and Oppo has very good natural colour calibration) - but same problem:
between 5-10% screen brightness there is a step which is making everything tinted green.
You slide brightness from 1% to 10% and you will have colours like: ok ok GREEEEEEEN ok ok ok.
I won't accept 1k€ phone having such bad screen, so I am thinking about trying flagship Xiaomi,
can you go into complete dark room and slide brightness from 1% to 10 and tell me if the colours stays the same?
I also have S20 Ultra and iPhone 11 Pro Max - their screens are just perfect (iPhone has much warmer screen, very pleasing to human eye), but I don't like iOS and Samsung has pure garbage Exynos CPU in EU.
Interested as well
Any kind soul to check as per OP request?

I've tried it. Miu12 xiaomi.eu latest stable. No issues, screen colors remain very consistent. Let me also note that this phone/rom combination has a really good auto-brightness implementation. I've had numerous phones, this is the first one i never need to manually fiddle with brightness.
My only complaint about this phone (or miui) is its out of the box aggressive memory handling. Need to tune many settings of apps to not miss notifications.

Thank you for checking!
In the meantime I also discovered a fix for my Oppo screen problems -
there is an option called 'low brightness flicker-free eye comfort' and after turning it on the screen is perfect.
It is basically the same thing as OnePlus did (PWM/DC patch), but this one actually works,
while on OnePlus it fixes one thing and brake two others.
Long story short I'll be staying with find x2 pro, because of 12GB DDR5, 512GB UFS3 and
well baked ROM with good RAM management.
Have a nice day.
PS. Auto-brightness is indeed bad on Oppo, Samsung and OnePlus and it's great only on iPhone.
Another thing I'm missing with Oppo is wireless charging, but I'm OK with those issues.

Note20 Ultra screen wearing poorly after a year

So I've had the Note20 Ultra 512 GB since release last year. Image retention has always been there, but never resulted in burn in so I ignored that. However, now the screen uniformity is getting worse. The area around the fingerprint sensor and a rectangle about half an inch around the edges of the screen are a different darkness level. It's very visible on gray screens and medium colors at any brightness. I also have an S20+ that is not exhibiting any of the issues I see here. I remember having my Note 9 under neon lights and the half inch ring was noticeable, but could not be seen in normal lighting or dark environments. I was hoping to pass this phone to a family member when the S22 Ultra comes out, but I have concerns about screen longevity. Anyone else noticing this?
See this for an example:
https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyNote20/comments/l0svom
The S22U is worse from what I'm seeing; a lot of display issues. Display just going black after a reboot or charge, whatever... dead as Zed.
Plus no SD card slot, no native spen and running on the dog OS Android 11. All that for a premium flagship price. Yes, well...
What brightness level are you running it at?
Use it in direct sunlight except occasionally for a few seconds?
I keep my N10+ at less than 50% about 99% of the time. I use dark mode and near black wallpaper. Minimum red icons. Mostly because I prefer not burning out my eyes but also OLED preservation. I use manual brightness control only.
At 2 years my heavily used 10+ shows no display degradation even compared to my new one.
See what you, use ScreenTest to make sure you actually have any changes with the display. You really shouldn't. If you been conservative with your brightness and you have degradation it's likely a design and/or manufacturing fubar.
Samsung runs hot and cold. This year has been a bad year for Samsung.
Next year isn't any better plus Android OS is tanking. Even if Samsung does manage to pull a Note out of their assets, I'll wait a year to buy it.
See what kind of feedback it's getting and if the Android OS completely turns into a sour green Apple
I punched out and went with a know good workhouse for the next 2-3 years. I just wasn't liking what I saw... and the 10+'s just keep on ticking.

Using it at 40-50% brightness. The screen looks fine in decent lighting, but in a darker room I can see the shaded areas clearly. When using a light theme or pure black, everything looks great as well. I just find it odd how much more noticeable artifacts are on these screens than on the S20+ and Note 9.

The US models don't come with screen protectors. The glass has held up decently with only 2 tiny hairline scratches that are only visible in sunlight.

Wow I have exactly the same issue. Exactly the ring and rectangle above. I thought it was because of some image that created such a high contrast, but since you have the same issue then it's a hardware issue.
And it's only visible on some shades of grey. Not on black, not on white. So strange
since many devices have the same burn-in pattern, do you believe it has something to do with its internal components (rather than the display's pixels)?
Like the charging circuit for example?
This problem is getting much worse and is now visible at all times regardless of brightness. It likely will result in an unusable screen soon. I will try reaching out to Verizon and/or Samsung to get a resolution. This is totally unacceptable for a phone that only been used a little over a year. Here is what it looks like at 50% Brightness, and 10% Brightness. The Note 9 and 10 Plus lasted over 2 years with no such problems.

Question [CLOSED] Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus AMOLED Display Problem

Hello,
I've been using Redmi Note 11 Pro plus for the past few days. I had been using a Samsung m30s before and compared to that the display experience in Redmi Note 11 Pro has been dull.
Last day I noticed something. I had tried using a completely black wallpaper and then I noticed how the black was not proper. Colour was leaching out through sides of display like a backlight bleed.
I had seen previous reports of a possible Redmi Note 11 Pro Display problem which made me do a display test on the phone. Then I noticed that this bleed like effect was present also for white as well as dark grey colors.
However these went away after I restarted my phone. So I wanted to know whether anyone else experienced this Redmi Note 11 Pro problem.
<Moderator Edit>: Self-promoting video link deleted.
This is a software issue that only occurs on MIUI. On custom roms this problem doesn't show up and the screen is completely black.
Probably a software issue, mine is noticeable when swiping the brightness while on the black screen test raging from 8 - 15% of brightness where I can see the bleeding
Hello I was planning on getting this phone (Redmi note 11 pro 5g) but after researching a bit I came across this thread. I heard this is an issue that affects both models. Is this an issue that affects only certain units or do most have amoled problems? Does this only show in 120hz mode? Thanks!

My device has no such problem. I generated a #00000000 image using an app and tried viewing it at max brightness in a dark room and the screen legit turns off. Its kinda freaky to see a display turn off when you know its on and expect some bleed. I come from lcd so thats what I expected. Needless to say I'm glad my model wasn't defective.

I have compared the Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus 5g (peux) with last years top model Redmi Note 10 Pro Max and this display seems to be more colorful and vibrant compared to last years model. That one seemed more washed out in the same display modes.

The issue is not present at 100% brightness. Try keeping the image, and play around with the brightness settings from 0 to 100. Then, you can notice that at certain percentages, the backlight bleeds quite heavily. In my device, it's at around 30-50. Some other users report that it's happening to them at 40-60.

hi does this affect daily usage? I tend to use my phone a lot at night in bed so it would suck if the bleeding is that bad. How noticeable is it when watching content with dark scenes/backgrounds?

On my day to day usage, I find that it's not noticeable at all. However, If you're watching content that has pure black elements, it is very noticeable. It's inconvenient, but usually when it happens I just turn down the brightness a little bit and it's gone.
I wouldn't say it's a deal breaker, I still think the phone is a pretty good value, but buyers beware. There's some hope that it'll be fixed in an update at some point but I wouldn't hold my breath. Just be aware that your mileage may vary.
Is this an issue that is present on 60 or 120hz? Saw a couple of posts on other threads that say issue disappears on 60hz. Is it the same on yours?

The problem still persists regardless of whether or not I set 60 or 120hz. On my device, at least.
Guys, try this app called Oreo colorizer. This solves the issue.
It forces the display to shift its color space to DCI-P3 instead of the default sRGB according to the below XDA thread.
So the issue is software related. NOT HARDWARE. Hope Xiaomi solves this by updates in future.

General XDA Article: The Google Pixel 7 Pro might have a big display problem

The Google Pixel 7 Pro might have a big display problem
The Google Pixel 7 Pro might have a pretty big display problem, and one that you won't notice until it's sunny. Read on to find out more.

My commentary: I'm not too worried about the high wattage at high display brightness. In the short term, I'm more worried about the fact that when you turn the screen off, you can still accidentally launch apps in the small amount of time before it's properly locked. For years, I've always set the lockscreen setting to lock immediately instead of the default 5 seconds when I press the power button, so I don't know if the default setting might be a factor here, but I'm sure this will be fixed in software before very long.

The Google Pixel 7 Pro might have a big display problemThe Google Pixel 7 series was released recently, and we’ve been spending a lot of time with both the Pro and the non-Pro. We’ve been loving the cameras, the software, and even the upgraded display. However, as it turns out, the display is a battery killer when used at higher brightness — much more of a battery killer than we’ve seen on pretty much any other flagship device.
I’ve been using the Pixel 7 Pro a lot since Monday, and I noticed that the battery life is much improved over the Google Pixel 6 Pro… until I step outside. I went out for coffee yesterday morning, and I was sitting at nearly three hours of screen on time at 50%. By all accounts, that’s really good battery life. However, stepping outside and using my phone while walking immediately dropped the battery life by about 10% in fifteen minutes. It quickly clicked with me that my brightness had been higher as I had been outside. I asked other members of the team, and Daniel Bader, Valnet’s Technical Brands Lead, mentioned that he had experienced the same.
The thing is, obviously using a display outside will draw more power. The problem is that the power draw seems really disproportionate. I spoke to other members of the XDA family and collected readings from their devices, and it seems that the Google Pixel 7 Pro might have a pretty big display problem. I investigated this with some help from XDA’s display analyst, Dylan Raga, and we’re using measurements from the Pixel 6 Pro and the Galaxy S22 Plus for building context around the Pixel 7 Pro’s extraordinary behavior.
What’s happening with the Pixel 7 Pro’s display? At 600 nits, all four of our Google Pixel 7 Pro devices are topping out between 3.5W and 4W. It gets even worse though: with maximum brightness (the Google Pixel 7 Pro is rated up to 1500 nits, and I triggered high-brightness mode), its power consumption shoots up to 6W. These display luminance ratings are usually measuring peak brightness at 1% APL — or in other words, a tiny portion of the screen lighting up. High brightness mode should be jumping to 1000 nits across the entire panel when a white screen is displayed (100% APL), and it does look to be about that.
For reference, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra would use about 2W at 600 nits, and 4W at about 1000. Dylan Raga told me that the numbers that I collected show that the Pixel 7 Pro display uses about 50% more power than the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra and the Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus comparatively.
We have taken power readings in our display reviews of both the Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus and the Google Pixel 6 Pro. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus seems to drain up to 4.5W at 1100 nits, a fairly respectable figure. In contrast, the Google Pixel 6 Pro hits 4W at just shy of 800 nits. Dylan pointed out to me that if you were to extend his Google Pixel 6 Pro display power consumption graph in the same direction that it was already going, you would basically cross over the same values that we’re experiencing on the Google Pixel 7 Pro. This is indicative of a larger problem that Google has had in the past with its panels, and the Google Pixel 7 Pro appears to have only made the situation worse.
I spoke to Ben Sin, Daniel Bader, and Manuel Vonau of Android Police — three people who have Google Pixel 7 Pro units that are sourced from PR in different regions of the world. I sent all three of them instructions on how to measure that power usage from the display at maximum brightness. All of their values were roughly in line with mine. In the table below, you can see how the Google Pixel 7 Pro stacks up against the Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus and the Google Pixel 6 Pro.
Power ConsumptionGoogle Pixel 6 ProGoogle Pixel 7 ProSamsung Galaxy S22 Plus600 Nits at 100% APL2.9W3.5W-4W2W800 Nits at 100% APL4W––1000 Nits at 100% APL–6W4W
How bad is the Google Pixel 7 Pro’s display power draw?To contextualize the problem, the Google Pixel 7 Pro’s Tensor G2 likely has a TDP of around 10-12W. We haven’t completed our testing yet, but this means that the display alone at full manual brightness is likely using just a bit less than half of the chipset’s maximum power. In high-brightness mode while playing an intensive game, it’s feasible that you could be drawing up to 18W of battery at any given time. That would kill any smartphone battery in just under three hours, and that’s only the display and the chipset. Your phone has other components, too, so expect to stick to the wall sooner if you are using the Pixel 7 Pro with high brightness than you would be doing so on a competing device under the same conditions.
What can Google do to fix this? It’s hard to say at this preliminary stage. We’ve tested this across multiple devices and spotted the same power draw across all of them. For what it’s worth, we also took readings on two Google Pixel 7 devices and it looks a lot more normal, so this seems to be an issue that may be exclusive to the Pro. It’s unclear if Google will be able to make the panel more efficient with a software update, though I suspect it won’t be able to. Still, that’s why we’re saying it “might” have a big display problem — Google could end up fixing it. Whether it’s a hardware or software problem is all up in the air currently — all we know is that there is a problem.
For what it’s worth, at lower brightness, the Pixel 7 Pro display functions closer to expectations. Dylan noted that the power values I collected for using the display at its lowest brightness are still on the high side, with it draining roughly 0.7W. Still, it’s a lot more manageable than touching off of 6W. If you’re on the fence about a Google Pixel 7 Pro, we’d recommend waiting to see what comes of this. The Google Pixel 7 also doesn’t appear to have the same issues, which may make it a better choice for people who spend a lot of time outdoors, in sunny environments, or just like having their display brightness high.
We’ve reached out to Google for comment, and we’ll be sure to update this article if we hear back.
Google’s Pixel 7 Pro has other display problems, tooIt’s not just the display power draw either. GSMArena’s Prasad Naik pointed out on Twitter that the display remains active for a small period of time even after turning it off.
I have noticed the same problem on my unit as well, and it was only when I saw this Tweet did I realise that it was the cause. A few times now I’ve been listening to music, using my phone, turned off the screen, and turned it around to put it in my pocket. I’ve skipped tracks a few times this way and it was incredibly frustrating, but I assumed it was just me doing something wrong. However, I’ve verified that I have the same problem and the display is staying on for roughly a second after I turn off the screen.
It’s unclear at this time whether or not this is a bug or if this can be fixed by disabling any particular settings. We’ll be sure to update this article if we hear more.

Things like this and the mobile network bug concern me a bit. How were neither identified in testing? The mobile network bug appears to be at least sporadic and fixable by software so fine. But this appears to be widespread across all four of their devices. Does nobody testing these devices at Google use them outside lol
Same cr**, different year.

P6P had this and was never "fixed".

My wife and I never had any issues at all with our Pixel 6 Pros, including the fingerprint reader. We had ours since late October or early November last year.

The 6Pro had a power hungry inefficient display, there's an article on Anandtech about it (if you want to search). The 7Pro still uses an LTPO 1.0 display so I imagine it's still pretty inefficient and power hungry.

I believe you. Still, I only kept my Pixel 6 Pro charged between 25 and 75%, except on very rare occasions did I go lower or higher, and that 50% range still lasted me about 1 day of use, which is about how long my previous phones lasted me when kept in that range.
The title of this article seems pretty click bait-y to me.
Looks like the P7P’s brightness is lower than P6P’s. What a let down

The research is done by XDA, not clickbait at all.

Are they using an inferior panel this year or artificially lowering it(maybe because of heat).

I said "seems", I didn't mean it 100% is.
I wonder: if you keep your display around 60/70% brightness, does it trigger the high power consumption?

Needs more investigation I think. I'm sure Anandtech will do an in depth like they did last year.
Got a 7 Pro being delivered on Monday. Will hate to have to send it back because using it outside in reasonable brightness tanks the battery life. If it does have such an issue, the suspicion it can't be fixed by an update is pretty depressing.
This could explain the mixed reviews I've seen in terms of battery life, some saying it's toilet, whilst others say it's fantastic and they end the day after 6 hours SOT with 30%.
The Pixel 7 Pro runs into crucial display issues early on
Recieved mine today. Have not been able to replicate the ghost tap. Havent really been outside so cant comment on the brightness issue.

Unfortunately I do not think so. Andrei Frumusanu has left Anandtech almost a year ago and he was the main smart phone reviewer after Brian Klug left. With Anand lal Shimpi and Brian Klug (both went to Google) having left years ago and Dr Ian Cutress having left earlier this year (Ian Cutress did one smart phone overview this year) when it comes to in depth smart phone reviews (which no other site remotely approached) there really does not appear to be another source. Unfortunate.

You don't really need to be outside, you can manually increase the brightness to between 80% and 100% and see if it has a disproportionate effect on battery drain.
btw, the "starting apps while locking bug" doesn't happen here when using nova launchers double tap gesture for locking the device. maybe an other app with the same function can evade this problem too?
but when using power button it's replicable here too.
