Not been on the forums or even had time to flash any ROM's for a few weeks but tonight I've got a couple of hours free, so just been looking through ROM Manager and came across Cerberus, I thought it was a new ROM at first so I took a look. Only to find out it's an APP not a ROM (weird really).
I was just wondering if anyone had tried it or know anything about it and does it really deserve a place in ROM Manager when its not even a ROM, even if it the best thing since sliced bread I'd still expect it to be in extras anyway.
Sorry If this has been discussed but like I've said Ive had no time so am a little out of touch
Thanks
Never heard of it before but I found out about it just like you did. From what I can tell it's the same as the marketplace app - https://market.android.com/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus&hl=en
I will admit I haven't tried either version (ROM manager version or marketplace), but it seems to have decent reviews. I agree though, it seems weird in ROM manager under the normal ROM listing... I expected it to be under Extras too.
UPDATE***
Flashed it through CWM although it can be downloaded from the market as pointed out.
What an amazing piece of kit. you get a weeks free trial but I paid 2.60 or there about.
I can't explain how good it is, if you have ever been concerned about loosing misplacing or having your Nexus slolen, then this most definately for you.
If you buy the full version you can add up to 5 phones.
It enables you to track, wipe take a picture, request call or sms log display a message sound an alarm even record live for up to 5 mins at a time, ether by loging on to there ste online or by sending a text message to your phone.
By far the best security app I've ever seen.
Check it out, its free for a week and if you don't buy it there must be something wrong with you.
And honestly I'm not assosiated with the app or its developers, just know a great app when I see one
https://www.cerberusapp.com/
Hi, I'm Cerberus main developer.
First of all, if you have any questions on Cerberus feel free to ask!
Then, regarding the inclusion in ROM Manager, I'd like to explain how and why it happened.
Cerberus has additional features if you integrate it into the rom. It cannot be uninstalled (I mean, it can only be deleted by flashing a new rom or using adb/terminal emulator, but I don't think a lot of thieves know how to do that), and GPS is automatically enabled when you send a "Start tracking" command. So on the website there is a flashable zip for easy installation in /system/app.
A user, who also maintains the ROM Manager repository, told me if I wanted to publish it there too, so integration into the rom would be even easier. Of course I said "Sure, that'd be great"
Now I don't know if there's a specific category into ROM Manager that is fit for Cerberus or whatever, if someone more expert than me wants to write his opinion I'd like to read it.
P.S. If you installed version 1.9beta, there are some nice new features that you can't see yet in the "official" dashboard. More info here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1jmPnjs07y7rs9tdsMEzwUTQtV2ncjsYcVsPUbBtZAXM/edit?hl=en_US
It is the best app i have ever downloaded.
EDIT: Wow I just read all the comments in ROM Manager and I want to punch so many people.
So to expand on what ajejee said above:
Previously, Cerberus could only be installed either as a regular app with the "Device Administrator" permissions like any other security app, and the associated flaws (like not being able to turn on GPS on 2.3.3+), or by downloading a separate APK off the website and running it on your phone, which would copy the APK to the system partition.
Long story short, putting Cerberus in ROM Manager is a way to make it easier for users to install Cerberus to /system, since most competent root users have ClockworkMod Recovery and at least know of ROM Manager. While yes, it is "odd" for an app to be in the ROM listing, it's not the only non-ROM in there. I also have radio images for the HTC EVO 4G listed as well.
In regards to placing it in "Extras": Yes, that's a nice idea, but with the way RM's manifests work, it's not really feasible. The "Extras" isn't a separate category, but just another manifest that was hosted on Koush's GitHub, and was only being used by Superuser. This means that any time Superuser had an update, or Cerberus would have an update, the developers would have to send a pull request to Koush, and someone would have to merge it in.
I say was, because Superuser and Cerberus both now have their own separate manifests (meaning no more Extras link), and show up as "ROMs" in the Download ROM menu. I've talked to Koush about making a separate "Download App" menu, but the problem with that is that the Market's ToS prevent having an app that just downloads other apps.
tl;dr, this is so Cerberus can be protected against factory resets, apps can kinda-sorta go in the Download ROM menu, and ROM Manager can't have a separate Download App menu.
Pretty cool app!!!!!!!!

Awesome app and there are even way to get it for free !
Well, you translated the app into Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian so you earned a couple free licenses
There are not many languages left to localize Cerberus into: Korean, Finnish, Arabic, Farsi, Indonesian and Thai.
So if anyone wants to help with some of these translations please let us know!

That would be great! Can you please contact me at [email protected] ?
Thanks a lot!
I rooted my LG G2 and I want to install Cerberus in the system, but im new to this, i didnt understand the instructions at their website. Can anybody help me with this?:good:
Thanks
This app is awesome,
my girlfriend's phone (nexus 5) has been stolen twice and i have found it twice! The first time i found it with the front camera photo feature when you fail your password and that person did herself a nice selfie. 10 minuts later y found her and got the phone back. The second time the thief turned it off when she just found it, this time i only could wait her to put her sim in the phone...and it happened, the phone send me her phone number and i found a lot of information (photos, adresses, student,career,year....) called her and again got it back.
But i don't understand one thing, i had bootloader locked and adb not enabled. Even with password for the phone the girl managed to install a different factory image (killing cerberus forever) and i don't know how she did it, i though the phone was completely locked. Anyway i was lucky because she put his card in to the phone before doing that but i'm still confused about that. I'll try to fix that security hole somehow.
Finally i want to thank the developer for make this app, with 3€ my girlfriend saved 700 and who nows in the future maybe more.
cant help you

Hello, I got this email from Cerbus asking the question would Cerberus survive a hard rest?
reply
Only if you integrate Cerberus into the ROM of the device.

Hello,
I have a TC55 from Motorola Solutions (i.e. the enterprise division that does not belong to Google). It is a rugged phone with a big battery (4400 mAh), but certainly not the sleekest design. Not sure if there is much interest in this kind of device, and I am certainly no developer - but in case anyone is investigating the TC55, here are two things I found so far:
It does not come with any Google apps: no Maps, no Gmail, no Play store and so on.
It is easily rooted with Framaroot using the Gandalf exploit.
(I cannot post this info into the Framaroot thread due to my low post count).
Anyway, maybe this helps someone. I will be happy to try to answer any questions about the TC55, but keep in mind I am no pro and I am not keen in messing around in its internals much more than I have done already.

I heard my company is planning to go with these soon for entry level supervisors such as myself. I'm trying to figure out exactly what it is. All the specs and brochures from Motorola keep calling it a mobile computer in a smartphone "form factor" but never actually call it a phone. I didn't see anything in any of the specs to lead me to believe for sure that it was a phone or if it was just an Android computer in a smartphone form factor.
Anyway, I just wanted to confirm, that, you're certain this is a phone, correct?
Thanks.

Yes, definitely. You can call and get called, and you can send and receive SMS. It also supports wired headsets, and it is supposed to work with Bluetooth headsets, though I do not have any to test.

Thanks for the info but it looks like mine is going to be crippled.
Sort of a let-down really. Yes, it "can" be a phone. Or without a sim card it can be a really powerful Android based mobile computer. That's what it is going to be for most of us. Only a few supervisors with area management approval are going to get units with the phone features working. Still cool. Just not as cool as I'd thought it was going to be.

I see, sorry to hear that. It sounds weird to me to do that, but then again I have no clue about this type of work.
Maybe the crippling could be worked around or undone by people with good Android knowledge - but I suppose it might not be the best idea to go against company policy.

I don't think they're doing anything all that special to cripple it. They just won't all have sim cards or a cell plan. Pretty much as simple as that.
I won't be doing anything to circumvent that though or rooting it or anything like that. It's not like it's a gift and it belongs to me or anything. After almost 22 years, I've kind of grown to like my job and getting a paycheck every two weeks.I'd kind of like to keep it for another 15 or 20 years. Who knows, maybe my manager will decide that I need cell service with mine.
I work for a large automaker in the U.S. We have over 2.8 million square feet under roof. Personally, I can be anywhere on in the plant, on the roof, in pits & sub-basements underneath or anywhere on or near the 50 acre plant site at any given time. A lot of what I need to do on a daily basis is through our intranet portal. They're putting in something like 500 new wi-fi repeaters/extenders all around the plant as well. They're purchasing these for over 300 first line supervisors at my site alone. I'm pretty sure they're doing this corporate-wide so I hate to think what they're spending on these things as a corporation. I'm sure it would bankrupt many small nations! In addition to giving us portal access away from the desk, these are meant to replace our aging industrial radio system. As expensive as these are, they're still much cheaper than $1.5 to $2k per person for a radio that has no other built-in functionality and these do seem pretty ruggedized.
Still a shame about the phone functionality though.

Can you see what browser it comes with? Can you install (untrusted) APKs directly without rooting it?
FYI, in case anyone's wondering, there is a version with Google apps on the way (if it isn't already orderable).

Browser is a standard one, which comes with other devices. Name is Browser.apk and version is 1.0.9
It's possible to install unsigned APK's without rooting.
google account
Hi,
I got stucked with trying to get google calendars from my google account to TC55.
I found one solution to setup google account as a corporate one, but it's not available anymore due to change in google policy.
I can setup google mail via email account, but that doesn't bring me my calendars to the device.
I tried to install gapps but without success.
Is there any other way?
Thanks.
Motorola work on google apps for TC55.There is in beta.

No idea, I haven't tried. As far as I understand gapps are usually installed via flashing a zip from recovery, and the stock recovery of the TC55 does not have that option, it only allows reflashing a whole image, if I understand it correctly. Either way, I have come to appreciate the open source alternatives and do not want to get Google on my phone, so I will not try, sorry.
However, going by this thread over at the Motorola support forum, it seems it won't take long until there is official gapps support:
https://developer.motorolasolutions.com/thread/4989
Motorola has now released a TC55-firmware with Google apps. Here are the release notes:
https://atgsupportcentral.motorolasolutions.com/content/emb/docs/ReleaseNotes/Release%20Notes%20-%20%20TC55_RevAPlus_GMS_01%2074G_v10.htm
According to the support email they sent me, to get the actual release you need to perform the following arcane ritual:
Resolution Type is : Software Download
Resolution Id is : 95562
Resolution Title is : TC55 Update Image v1.74 with GMS (Google Mobile Service) Release Note & Factory Reset & Enterprise Enabler package
restrictedSW :
T55N0JGMVRUEN17400.zip 321 MB TC55 OS Recovery Update package
T55N0JGMVAUEN17400.apf 321 MB TC55 OS update package file for deployment using MSP
If you require access to OS files for TC55 1.74 GMS then call the local Support Desk and provide following information:
a. Site ID
b. Serial #(s)
c. Phone #
d. Customer name (First and Last)
e. E-mail address

Don't ask me what the local support desk number is, or the site ID, or why they have to make this so complicated.
Hi Elanguescence,
I think I screwed up my tc55 by enabling the multiuser function without first creating the white list. Now all the users (with admin rights) does not have access to all the programs, including Applock Administrator and Multiuser administrator.
To cut things short, do you know of a way to reset the device? I don't mind setting it to factory default and start over. I've googled it and some said to launch Rapid Deployment and scan a barcode from there... but my Rapid Deployment just says "Service Not Ready, Please Wait" and get stuck there.
Any help appreciated. Thank you.
Any TC55 users here? Should be getting my unit w/ GMS soon... How do you guys like it?
Is the bootloader locked?

Hey!
I want to Buy one TC55 for me. Normally i hate Android and the Google stuff on the Phone but some Motorola Salesman told me there is a version with out.
Now i use an Sybian Device. That mean i am "offline" the hole time and when i need Internet the Phone connect the the Internet.
So how about that phone can i work "offline" to?
I will also use an VPN Tunnel to block on my backend all Connnection i dont want. Does all Data trough this VPN Tunnel ?
How about the Barcode Scanning does it work good?
I know for 2D i need to use the Cam but how works it when i am in some other Application?
Nobody?
Ok. I just bought a TC55 from a Friend and I was wondering if someone would post the update to get GSM and the Factory Reset packages. I went to the page and it requires all the information posted above before. Mine is rooted, but i am trying to install GAPS but the recovery is the basic and cannot. I manually installed Google Play and the Google Play Services but Google Play services keep crashing and the Play Store will not connect, any ideas ?
the are 2 versions one with google s... service and the other without.
So i belive you have the first?
(Can i ask you some question about that phone?)
For several months, my hotspot hacked worked just fine on T-Mobile, but now it's not working. Usually it was built into the ROMs and there wasn't any issues. Wondering if anyone has a fix. I'm currently running the newest version of CAF Blisspop, stock kernel.
So what model/brand phone do you have? What version of Android are you on? If you can provide that info, you should get some guidance here in the forum or by private message. I'm sure you've searched the forums too. Think of some keywords devs use to describe that specific ROM feature and then search again. Seems to me this info isn't readily available for obvious reasons. But you can find it if you're persistent.
FWIW, I dont believe T-Mobile is changing the way they look for tethering violations, they're still using user agents and overall data usage as far as I know. I've tried various modded apps and various native HotSpot mods, and the only common theme T-Mobile has cited to me is the user agent. I've been warned three times, and thabkfully they still haven't taken away my unlimited data. I personally don't bother anymore, I have unlimited data and just download anything I need to my phone and copy and paste it over to my computer while connected. Unless there is some brilliant tethering mod out there that's undetectable, sooner or later they'll figure you out. I think once you hit 30 GB of data in a month, they watch your account. That's a ton of data to use on a phone alone in a month unless you stream movies/videos constantly. Wish it weren't this way, but you've got to play their game to stay in the game. Just my two cents.
So I was going to contact people in TWRP about making TWRP recovery for this phone, then I realized that we probably will need to have some factory images lying around in case I break something, I can restore the phone in the mean time.
I checked the Razer website for these images and they are no where to be found. I thought, they have to provide these, this phone isn't even tied to a carrier. What if something happened to the OS files and became corrupt? How could I restore the phone?
This is the reason google provides factory images for their phones. I know Razer is new to the phone market and they are learning the requirements, but this is kind of a big oversight.
I contacted Razer support, and the conversation went like this:
Support:
Welcome to Razer Support, my name is <redacted> Please hold for a few moments while I review your inquiry. For quality assurance purposes, you may be selected to receive a survey regarding your service experience.
Thank you. Your case number is <redacted> . Please save it as a reference for this chat session.
What questions do you have about the Razer phone?
Me
I have one in hand, and was trying to secure a factory image for the phone in the event that something were to happen to it software wise, I could restore the phone. I could not find the location of the factory image of the phone anywhere on the razer site. Where is this located?
Support
The factory reset would reset your phone back to when you first got it. I would recommend you to save your files on the SD card. When doing a factory reset, remove the SD card so the files save on it won't be erased.
Me
A factory reset only works in the event the OS is in tact. If something were to happen to the OS files itself, it would require a factory image reflash in download mode.
Where can I obtain the factory image. Since this phone is not tied to a carrier, you must provide this file. I cannot simply go into a phone store and have them reflash the phone.
Support:
Let me check if we have that.
Me
Ok, thanks
Support
Thanks for waiting. Upon checking, we do not have a factory image available yet. All downloadable software for the phone should be available in the phone's webpage in the future.
Me
That is a generalized answer. Specifically, Does this include the Factory Images?
I do not want to wait for them to put the factory images up on the website to only find out that they will not make that specific image available later.
Support
We do not have information yet on what software will be available for download in the future. Since we do not have the factory image available, we cannot tell when and if it would be available.
Me
Who would have that information?
Is there someone I can call directly?
Support
Our developers would have that information but unfortunately, we do not have their contact information. We are only informed through the website.
Me
Ok, thanks, well I'll have to find their contact information and give them a ring.
--------------------
So clearly a cop out. They don't know in support where the factory images are? Come on, you're support, it's one of the main things you should know the location of. So I don't know if Razer is planning to release the factory images or not, but I imagine they will have to unless they suspect we will be RMA'ing the devices everytime someone jacks up the phone software. I know it's their first Foray into the phone market, so maybe they forgot to add the factory images? The fact that he clued me into the developers knowing the answer to that means he knows something but isn't maybe allowed to tell us.
If someone gets the factory image or developers contact information, please post it here, I'll be happy to make the calls.
Factory images will come eventually many companies wait a while before posting them in case of major bugs are found. Look at the essential it just recently released factory images and it's been out since august
Thats understandable.. You dont normally get the images on the first few months of release. It depends on razer when this will be out much like the essential brand
I sent Razer developer zone an email regarding sources though I'm not sure it will get shared with their legal department or go anywhere.
That being said, if they do put up kernel sources and the bootloader is unlockable then it should be simple enough to just unlock the bootloader, flash TWRP from built kernel sources, dd relevant unmodified partitions to a computer, then build sparse factory style images from them. Recovery image can be obtained by using applypatch on patch data available on system partition and stock boot image.
It's an unlikely backwards approach, yes. I'll work on it if I see it. I don't own the device, however.
Having these bit-perfect factory backups will certainly help with becoming OTA compatible if they don't provide factory binaries later on.
I have the phone I just picked one up at Microsoft if someone could tell me how to make a recovery image I would be happy to upload it.

Hi, since I am starting my own company I have been in contact with many other companies lately, I came across your thread and decided to ask Razer, they got in contact with their devs and gave me a call back a few days later and said to be rest assured the factory images will be posted within a few weeks just like the Nextbit Robin.

I have this device and consider my self some what of an experienced flasher.
I'd be willing to test your custom recovery .img if your able to put something together.
I do have a back up phone I could use while I wait for Razer to release the Recovery Images just in case my RP goes down.
I have a very bad feeling we won't get these for a while look at essential for example it took them months to release them. I mean razer have released nothing yet at all (which they have to do iirc)

I would assume they are holding back the images cause they are still patching software to fix the issues at launch like camera quality, etc. They have already indicated there was a couple more patches coming.. I would assume they don't wanna release images of the phone in its current state because of it and will make them available in the next few weeks after they get there stuff fixed a bit.. Just my 2 cents
I just got off the online chat with Razer support - here is the transcript.
Mobile Support (10:17:40 PM):Welcome to Razer Support, my name is Zilpah A. Please hold for a few moments while I review your inquiry. For quality assurance purposes, you may be selected to receive a survey regarding your service experience.

Me (10:30:42 PM)k thanks a lot - that is all I needed
Mobile Support (10:31:36 PM):My pleasure!
So it seems like December 15th is the magic day for us!!!!
Damn, came to check if it's getting any dev support.
But from the looks of it, I will have to wait and see before getting this phone.
Still that Razer support conversation makes me hold off on getting the device. Hope they did not contract some third party to make the phone and have little control over it.

I quickly recognized the phone found the program and cancelled their membership since I originally made the account/email address for them and they told me what password to use. But somehow that phone has continued to sync from their phone.
To this point I've been being safe; I've been messaging or texting lies along w/ truth. Yet somehow all that information makes it back by a simple slip up of words by the other person in house. They accidentally repeat in general something I mentioned in text/fb message/phone call/information/etc.
I've literally deleted everything I could find that was left after factory reset. (EVERY FILE!!) I had root and end up with a virus I couldn't remove & didn't want to factory reset. The virus took over screen and no matter what, I couldnt get it off. In the end, only way phone company could get it off was gain access with use of a computer & prog to factory reset. While talking, it updated from 6.0 to 7.0. So I'm going to have reroot.
QUESTION FINALLY: How can I remove or atleast find the hack or exploit ( or whatever it is) that is reporting or cloneing everything word & information? Yes, I've tried every possible virus/spy pro/spyware/malware/hack/exploit detector remover I read about. PLEASE advise.
The person( I suspect) is currently charged with domestic violence w/ prejudice, I cannot drop the charges they won't allow me. Due to it being domestic violence against someone disabled.
The person is beyond clueless about technology but their brother worked for govt many yrs ago installing, none other than CAMERAS. He now prides himself as being a computer expert & dev.(he's not bad at it). He knows LINUX exceptionally well. Also I found an old outdated voice recorder. I took it to a shop then to some who is genius with things he agreed. Both said it went with a small old spy camera. I have it still it. Since I am a "rentor/tenant" (correct if wrong) using audio with recording is illegal. Also video recording if used for a malicious or personal gain/pleasure without letting the person know is illegal. I'm a man so man things would have been recorded.
Quick Question...should I go ahead with rooting or wait?
PLEASE HELP AND IF POSSIBLE FIND THE FOOTPRINT HE MIGHT HAVE LEFT BEHIND. PRIVATE MESSAGE ME IF NEED MORE DETAILS ON PHONE INFORMATION
