I have read here that some of the main Dev have retired. Has someone picked up were they left off? I have this phone as a project phone to learn more about rooting. The one I have is from boost Mobile and I have already rooted it with TWRP and su. I'm looking for a stable ROM but the ROM I have ARJ2 does not have a custom ROM for it that I could find anywhere. Any help would be great!

I have a galaxy note 2 (SPRINT)
My details are
SPH-L900 GALAXY NOTE 2 (SPRINT)
Android version 4.3.1
cyanogenmod version 10.2-20131214 snapshot
kernal version 3.0.64-CMg9d16c8a
I am simply trying to learn where to go from here. I tried getting a new rom from room manager premium but it always says download error. I was trying to get 10.2 rc2 stable. But none of the other work either. I think I might need a new kernal but am lost on which one is right for me. Any help is appreciated. So basically I'll take the Eli5
Approach and go from there. How to get the right roms for me, kernels etc.? Thanks guys
Hi!
Easy, here's the forum section for your device.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-2-sprint
Now you need to go through the development section, and original development section. Read about the ROMs and kernels in the opening posts. See what appeals to you...and flash away!
Do a nandroid backup in recovery first...in case you need to restore.
And read the flashing instructions very carefully.
Good luck!! ?

First, no you do not need a custom kernel to root, however using a custom kernel can provide benefits such as better performance/battery life and added features like superior audio controls etc. A notable kernel for the Galaxy series is the "Siyah Kernel" but it's up to you, personaly I choose not to after issues in past like higher temps
Odin is the tool used to flash software to your device, this is used to flash custom recoveries, kernels and the stock firmware
Superuser is the app used to control permissions to each individual app on your rooted phone, this prevents apps gaining root that you would prefer not to.
Finally, I have rooted an S2 back when I started out with devices. It's fairly painless and has many benefits but I prefer custom ROMs as well as rooting
Hope I could help, however these answers were available elsewhere after looking for a while which is suggested before posting to avoid duplicates when possible
Hey guys converter from iPhone over here. Last time I rooted it was fairly straightforward and was able to get going quickly. This newer stuff is a little new to me.
I rooted my sprint s5 using towel root. Now what? I see roms like omega but none really say anything about the sprint model.
What should i do next to install a boottloader then a rom?
Thanks

Assuming you are a new XDA user. Welcome to the forum and be sure to read over the forum rules. They might save you some headache in the future. For example, this post should of been in the Q&A section but no biggie. A mod will move it if need be.
Anyways, about your question, this is the Sprint specific forum so all the roms here should be compatible with the Sprint S5 (900P). Some of the roms will be based off of Touchwiz (these will keep almost 100% of stock functionality while adding some extras) and AOSP roms (custom based on CM, MIUI, etc.) The first post of each rom thread will give you a good idea of what the rom has included, instructions to flash, what works and doesn't, and so on.
If you just rooted get a custom recovery on there and do a backup of the system and EFS first thing. As for bootloader, that is preference and may depend on what rom you flash but I would think you will be fine with what version you have now.
This is also a good thread to take a look at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52456762&postcount=1
I rooted and installed a custom ROM on a ZTE Blade, a good few years ago now but for the last 5 years I've happily just made done with my un-rooted HTC One S. I decided today to try and root my device using Kingo and it didn't work, from what I can see, the bootloader needs to be unlocked which will wipe all my data even if i determine how to actually do this.
So if I'm going to do that i figured i should go the whole hog and put on a custom ROM but I've pretty much forgotten anything i previously knew and finding it a bit overwhelming to fish through all of the information available so i am hoping someone can help me and point me to the guides to do the following:
- Unlock the Bootloader (there is also something about S-On which i'm not too sure about?)
- Root my phone
- Install a custom ROM (ideally i want something similar to the standard HTC ROM that I'm currently using just without all the crap and something specifically tuned for extended battery life)
I'm hoping by doing this I can get some life out of my HTC One S for another year before eventually casting it a side.
Any help, guidance and opinions would be welcome!
Hello, and thanks for using XDA Assist.
All of the information you are looking for can be found in this thread.
Welcome back to the world of rooting!
Hello everyone,
I have frequented XDA for a long time and have been rooting/unlocking my phones since I've had my first smartphone (s3). Until now, I haven't really had any questions pertaining to installing custom roms and the like.
My question is - can I install m8 roms that say they are for "all variants"? I ask because I'd like to start trying out different roms such as the AICP rom but have no idea if it will work on my phone. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I currently have an unlocked m8 running the GPE Marshmallow H10 rom found in the Android Dev section of this forum.

The way I see it, You better off flashing a ROM which has a thread within this forum. Otherwise it may not work "out of the box" sort to speak.
You actually have to make sure the "All Variants" is meant for the current version you're trying to flash. For instance, new Viper 5.x only works on unlocked/sprint. I think I tried one of the all variants ROMs once and it needed special modifications to work correctly. *shrug*
You could also ask in the AICP thread if there's anything special which needs to be flashed/modified for it to work.
