Awfuly oversharped images! - Honor 20 Questions & Answers

From day one of purchasing the phone, the images on simple, automatic mode at a day light look absolutely horribly over-sharped! Reloaded the device number of times, images sent to huawei, they advice me to send them the phone, but i have to pay for it!! For the error in the software i have to pay apparently!
Very disappointing! False advertising - this is the worst telephone images i ever seen in my life!
Should have bought iphone!

AHHH!! I love This Phone But

I really love this phone but the build quality that HTC use to be SOOO well known for seems to have gone out the window. I bought the AT&T One X when it first came out and had to have it replaced atleast 3 different times before my 30 days were up due to a number of different issues. The last one I got I've had for probably 2 months now and everything had been great up until a couple days ago. About a quarter of the way up the screen from the bottom does not recognize touch. If I use an app or something to draw a line down the screen, when I get to that spot it leaves a blank area and then the line starts again when I get past that area. One whole row on the keyboard I can't use any of the letters and atleast one of those letters is part of my gmail address so I can't enter it. When I'm scrolling in say the settings menu, the screen will be real jittery if my finger goes into the area where it's dead at or it will think I'm pressing instead of scrolling and randomly open up menus or apps. I do have insurance on the phone but I know it's not something they will swap in store since I'm past my 30 days so it will have to probably have to be sent for repair and I can almost guarantee they will update it to the latest release so I won't be able to root or anything else. Just curious if anyone else has had issues with the touch screen going out on there One X?
Sucks sorry to hear about your phone... Just terrible bad luck
I've had mine from day one of release and have had no issues what so ever... I'm sorry your having such bad luck with yours
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Sorry to hear about that. Mine has been solid so far, no known issues/defects.
Going into my first month as a new Telstra customer.
Ya, I'm just worried about them refusing to fix it since the bootloader has been unlocked. I have insurance through AT&T but I don't know how things like that work since I've never been in this situation before.

Just trade it, they can't deny you because of a hardware issue because you flashed custom.software
Many people send them in unlocked, ruu it to stock and you're good to go

You may not believe this but I've had 10 One X's and all have had problems. 5 were exchanged in store during the 30 days and 5 were sent as warranty replacements. The one I have now seems to be the most usable but there are still a bunch of problems (wifi signal fluctuates a ton, loud rattling noise when using vibrate). I've never seen a phone this nice but with so many quality control issues. All of the One X's I've had have gotten really hot with use.
Sent from my One X using xda app-developers app
ive never had any problems with this phone whatsoever, (Knock on wood) other than getting alittle warm playing a game while its charging
I feel your pain, bro. I purchased my Intl One X at full price at the time, which was $669.00 USD. It died two weeks later when the charging/data port stopped working. I sent it into HTC and after many phone calls to Tier 2 escalations and 2 months, they finally told me they could not repair my phone because of an Apple injunction on importing the motherboards to the US. This is how I came to be with the One XL.
The whole experience was IMO completely ridiculous and I've never experienced such horrible customer service from any company ever. They even tried to charge me to diagnose the problem with my phone. I fought them and got them to pay for the fee themselves. If I had paid it, would they have refunded it a month later when they told me that they couldn't fix my phone? Doubt it!
I got to use my original One X for a full two weeks before it died. Spent 2 months badgering HTC America about where my phone is, when is it going to be fixed, whats wrong with it, etc... only to be told "Sorry, you're ****ed!"
This story repeats itself tons of times in the One X forums from many different users. While I think the One XL is sweet (only because of LTE, if I had to use HSPA+ I'd still be really pissed and probably wouldve just sold it) I'll never buy or recommend HTC again.
Yeah I'm on my third now. Speaker keeps dying. Volume is so low that it's impossible to hear anything.
Htc fanboys might hate apple and samsung as much as they want but truth is that none of those companies have customers that still have problems with their phone even after getting the 10th replacement

Cool story Hansel, show me one supporting link that suggests unlocked bootloader returns are the reason for high insurance rates. Tell me it's the modding communities fault and not every Tom, ****, and Harry that returned their phone because it was too quiet, too bright or it hurt their feelings.

Apple? Sure. But Samsung? No. I just bought the HTC One X because I replaced my Galaxy S III so many times for various problems that AT&T would not exchange it anymore. Also, my third Nexus 7 is on the way. I think quality control has gone downhill across the board.

[Q] On 2nd RMA from screen blobs, should I keep bothering AT&T/Samsung?

So, I RMAed my Skyrocket due to the dreaded AMOLED blobs that Samsung can't seem to get rid of. Mine were somewhat OK when I originally got the phone, but 7mos later they're quite noticeable in some spots. In addition, the screen has that vertical "brushed metal" look to it that's also a pain in the ass.
I got my RMA on Monday, and it had the same damn problem. To top it off, it had a horizontal line on it. However, it didn't have the "brushed metal" effect as bad as my original. Instead, it had what looked like little dust clouds on it.
Naturally, I was pissed. I called AT&T once more, got another RMA (priority shipping included for free!), and got it this morning. Now, it has more spots, a faint brushed metal effect, but no giant blobs or dust clouds. On a more interesting note, the DSLR picked this up as being amber and not green.
So, should I try rolling the RMA dice again, or just going with #3?
EDIT: Got replacement #3 today. It has the same problem, and it's worse than the others! I'm beginning to wonder if this is all pointless.
EDIT 2: Replacement #4 arrived. Same crap, different phone. Not only that, I learned that I have essentially maxed out my AT&T warranty after 4 RMAs. Gotta love that. Going to try Samsung in the morning.
EDIT 3: Replacement #5 has been sitting on my desk for 15 days and I just bothered looking at it. Same problem, getting it DOAed again.
I'm not even bothering with uploading a photo.
EDIT 4: Finally had time for Replacement #6. It doesn't look TOO bad, so I'm thinking that I'll probably go with it. Thoughts, anyone?
Seriously, has anyone gotten better results with these phones?
Keep trying I promise you won't get a perfect one but you can get one a wee better

Currently on the phone with AT&T setting up RMA 3. Apparently I've reached the limit on open RMAs, so the CSR is seeing what she can do about it.
LOL.
Got the 3rd replacement today. Lo and behold, it has the same problem! To top it off, it's worse than replacement 2! Calling AT&T again to get another.
It's an ongoing issue with the display. Remember the devices they are sending you are not new they are refurbished.
You can get a brand new SR and it will have blobs on it, just pick the best one and keep it.

The AMOLED screens have a defect, presumably due to the mass-production of the screens. They get darkened "blobs" at low ambient and backlight levels. They have a tendency to grow. Thus, I'm trying to find the best one I can.
In other news, I got replacement #4 today! It has the same problem. Not only that, 4 open RMAs seems to temporarily lock AT&T's warranty system, and now I have to interface directly with Samsung. Lovely.
God, I hate this kind of crap Samsung lets happen to their devices.
Just looked at Replacement #6. It seems to look OK, so I'll probably go with it.
Thoughts, anyone?

I had to RMA 2 of them, the third one started randomly rebooting itself during calls. I got a hold of warranty replacement and explained to them that this was the third one, and I was not happy, of course they offered to send me a replacement S2 Skyrocket, and I told them NO, I wanted something else. They of course couldn't / wouldn't do it.
They sent me on to a different version of customer service and explained to them everything that happened and I told them that I would not accept another one due to the failure rate. They offered me a new phone, told me I couldn't have an iPhone or Note, but any of their other phones was acceptable. I asked for a garnet red GS III. 24 hours later I had a brand new GS III sitting on my desk. I have not had ANY issues with the S III.
OH and side note, they let me keep the GS II Skyrocket instead of sending it back in. I sent it in to Samsung and they sent me a brand new one back, and so far not a single issue with it either, however it just sits on the desk at home waiting to be used. I decided to keep it as a back up in case the S III had an issue.
Lol I always wondered what the **** those were!

+1 Im keeping mine. You have more of a chance of dying in a car accident or even being murdered than your Note 7 catching fire. Besides, ALL phones carry a risk. Just google "iphone catches fire" and find the numerous "local" reports. Some even on planes in mid flight. The "National" media won't run these. Wonder why? Make no mistake, this was a targeted attack on Samsung for steadily taking the market away from America's precious Apple and to make way for American juggernaut Google. Btw, you can google "Nexus catches fire", or practically ANY phone model/brand and find recent news reports of said phones burning up. Sorry, I'm not drinking the Kool-aide. Samsung made a kickass phone and I'm not ditching them or the phone because the American media and American mega-corporations don't want them to have the bulk of the cell phone market.

Still have mine, im supposed to be flying in 2 weeks so may switch back to my S4 for that weekend and go back to the note when i get back if they allow me. Hoping they come up with some solution to check the phones so the rest of us dont have to turn it in. I rocked my s4 for 3.5 years and really dont want to go back to it, but the NOTE was the best phone ever and not settling for s7e for next 2 years when S8 will be avail in few months. So pissed!!!!
I bought an S7 Edge off a friend and was going to return my Note to Sprint. Had the 7 Edge for 30 minutes and gave it back to him. There's just nothing like the Note. I'd rather take my chances.

Then don't fly with a Note 7. I plan to use an old phone for flights and switch back to the Note 7 when I'm back.
I will be waiting this thing out so long as the recall is voluntary, until my phone explodes or the note 8 or an equivalent comes out. I think it's a conspiracy. The key difference is that we usually have reviews (or at least hastily done hands-on previews) in hand before forking over money for other flagships. Nobody has a review on this yet.
Sure, reviews aren't perfect but they answer a LOT of the questions that we all have about this thing. Face it, Essential's communication has been pretty poor leading up to right now. And specs aren't everything.
Example: If Essential says "Our phone runs Android well and it's buttery smooth", would you trust that as much as if any other reputable reviewer said the same thing?

You're saying every flagship phone is exactly the same. Pick something with an 835 chip and everything else is identical; picture quality, battery life, screen quality, warranty support.... list goes on.
Nobody other than Essential employees know how the camera performs. You're putting a lot of weight into Andy Rubin's name being involved and he really has done nothing to earn that weight, in my opinion.
I'm not getting rid of my Pixel XL just yet. If the Essential sucks (I really don't think it will), it just goes on Swappa, I keep using the XL and wait for the new one to come out. I can honestly say that I haven't been as excited about a phone release as I am about the Essential in a long, long, time. The screen real estate is absolutely beautiful.

15 day return policy
I'm all in. As other's noted, 15-day return policy. If it sucks, it goes back.
Hardware wise I think it will perform, and I think android will operate fine. Just my belief based on who's doing this thing.
My only hesitation before pulling the trigger was how long it will take to have developers putting a rom together that I can abandoned all tings Google. I'm currently on a Nexus 6p with no GApps, running a secured kernel and ROM, FDroid, Amazon, and side loading for apps. I want to get to the same place on this sucker. I'm not developer enough to make my own ROM. Though the idea of building from source seems like a fun challenge.
I think my biggest hesitation is in how they worded the return policy. "Disabling security features" warrants denied return. I wonder if this means the device will be permanently altered by unlocking the bootloader - eg.. Sony with wiping the TA partition permanently degrading photo quality, or Samsung and the knox crap.
Obviously I wouldn't unlock the bootloader in the 15 day return window - but I want to be able to unlock the bootloader at SOME point with the option to put it back to stock without marring the device.
So many questions, so few answers..

I wouldn't say his name brings a whole lot to the table
Bought mine today. Ships within a week w/ 2-3 day Fedex; i'm hoping for delivery by Fri 25th, but i haven't gotten that email yet. No cases for it... hmm. I think they might be taking the durability factor a little far for there to be no cases available at launch. But I for one think Rubin's name brings a lot to the table and will be very surprised if the phone he's essentially (ha) staking his career on is a flop.

Yeah I broke down and confirmed my reserved pre-order. If I hate it, I'll return it. A good 7-10 days of steady use should determine if it's a keeper. No issues whatsoever here
No problems here.
I had plenty of that on the N5X and was starting again 8 mos after the second mobo replacement. I haven't seen it on this, but it's only 3 days old. OTOH, yesterday, my 9 week old Z3 Play was corrupted after an authorized update (Feb security on Oreo). Lost baseband so no wifi or mobile. IMEI doesn't show under System but does on getvar (baseband doesn't) eo pretty sure efs is onboard. Spent some time with MOTO hoping for a radio zip to flash or even the entire OS but pretty clueless. It's been sent for repair (replacement). How fortunate that 1) I have the Pixel and 2) if anything like this happens to it, I CAN FIX IT!
That comment section is cancer.
3a working flawlessly here.
A week now and running well without reboots, SODs or anything else.
That comment section sucks. Mines been going great too.
My phone has never rebooted but I have had the fingerprint reader stop working until a reboot.
No issues here. I bought launch day, so a week work nothing close to what's reported. I think it's just a vocal minority. Of course there will be a few bad devices that ship out. As long as Google stands behind them until they get functional units, all good in my book

yeah this annoys me. go back through the original reddit posts and there are a total of five people who have had this issue. five people, as a proportion of all 3a users with an internet presence, is all it takes for the android blogs to decide "many users" are having problems and the device is a failure.

Well i'm on my 2nd Pixel 3a first one didn't charge out of the box so took it back now the replacement has this shutdown problem it's only done it once but once is enough, think i'll get my money back not risking going for a 3rd replacement, shame really as i like this phone and the camera is excellent.
Haven't seen this at all either
ya i havent had this either. i wonder if it has to do with certain apps. like anyone who has it do you use anything that needs an accessibility service for locking the screen?

After reading the article they report this happening even in safe mode. They are convinced it's not an app.
