Old Device care - Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Questions & Answers

Is there anyway to get old device care from android pie. I have tried installing apk and it wont install. This new device care starts at midnight and ends at midnight for your screen on time. my day starts at 3 pm and ends at 5 am. The old one told you how long its been on battery since your last charge and the screen time from last charge. plus the new ones graph is hard to read

The old version won't work on Android 10. I don't care for the new version either, so I use GSam Battery Monitor instead.
Edit: Copy/paste this adb command to use its full potential:
adb shell pm grant com.gsamlabs.bbm android.permission.BATTERY_STATS

"Android OS" suspend process battery drain bug!

Lot of Android ROMs (Stock, Rooted, CM7, MIUI) across manufacturers (HTC, LG, Samsung) has a bug in which "Android OS" in "Battery Use" option draining a large percent of battery!
Reference (just one is enough): Click here!
How to check if you are affected:
1. "Battery Use" will show "Android OS" very high usage (for me, more than display)
2. Use System Panel -> Settings -> Monitoring enabled
After some time idle -> Monitor -> History -> Top Apps (2 hours) -> System Processes -> Click Suspend (and look if suspend has been continuously on while the screen is off)
I started this thread for
1. Get to know how many of Galaxy SL owners are facing this issue..
2. Suggest solutions
3. Get solutions (Those who do not have drain, PLEASE post your ROM/version/tweaks etc)
So please vote in the poll of this thread!
For me, any Gingerbread ROM (Stock or Rooted) causes this issue.
Final update:
I have isolated the bug to
1. Google backup transport
2. Organizer widget
I have removed them both, and now my standby drain is as low as 2-6 mA!
Also, I have re-enabled background data and the drain has not come back, so it is excluded.
== Old ideas below =====
The solutions I have googled so far is (and trying one by one):
1. Reboot (or connect to charger and disconnect) - Temporary solution.
2. Delay setup of Google account (do not add during setup)
3. Remove "Samsung sync" in samsung apps
4. Remove account backup/restore in "Privacy" options
5. Uncheck background data
6. Install Juicedefender - Not useful
7. Remove "Google Backup Transport" via Titanium Backup [my fix]
Edit: For me fix # 5 + 7 fixes drain on XXKPQ (Skin's root)
Please test and report!

sorry, didn't see the poll before
I don't remember seeing this issue on customized kpq or kph, but I am seeing it on cm7. I'm testing something right now so I can't test anything else you mentioned...
me no,very lucky
---------- Post added at 02:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:08 PM ----------
this is not only SL problem,is all android phone oso hv tis problem
I get and average of 12 to 15 % on full drain.
Possible fix!
For me fix # 5 + 7 (see OP) fixes drain on XXKPQ (Skin's root)
Please test and report!
Those of you who do not have the bug, PLEASE be kind enough to post which ROM/Tweaks you are using for the benefit of the community, so that we can isolate the ROMs having least battery drain!!

Yes, it is what keeps your account data backed up onto google's servers, in case you factory reset or change ROMs, it restores your data!

So why would you take it out? Isnt that bad?
Sent from my GT-I9003 using xda premium
I never had issues on froyo or stock GB, nor on cranium 3.1 (kph) or cranium 5.1 (kpq). I only had it on cm7. thanks to this thread, I discovered I forgot to uncheck background data, and just to be sure, I also deleted the backup transport. I then recharged my phone and reset it to clear the current stats. my stats at the moment are:
95% battery remaning after 4 hours
39% used by cell standby (1.95%)
30% used by android OS (1.5%)
16% used by phone idle (0.8%)
9% used by display (0.45%)
5% used by voice calls (0.25%)
3% used by andrpid system (0.15%)
so OS is still being a hog at the moment.

its not required unless you use google backup feature. atleast whenever i flash stuff, i just backup data using apps.
because it drains your battery!! and data restore does not work for many people, including me, so it is just a waste of battery.

Agreed, I've never seen my data being restored by Google anytime I've flashed my phone. Has anyone ever got it working?

Google backup feature doesn't work for me either. Used other apps like MyBackPro for contacts and sms and Titanim for apps.
Anyway I deleted google backup transport. will update the feedback soon.

it looks mostly stable in the second half. what was running in the first half while the phone was awake/screen on for so long? that's what really drained your battery...
Settings - Privacy
Disable backup data.
Has never worked for me anyways.
Did you try to recallibrate your battery? Eventually somehow your batterystats got crashed?
Do you use UtterChaos Kernel? With some nice settings in SetCPU I managed to increase battery life.
Often when flashing new ROMs I freeze many system apps via Gemini App Manager that are likely to run in the background and I don't use. e.g.
com.osp.app.signin (Samsung-Account)
com.sec.android.app.unifiedinbox (Social-Hub)
com.wssyncmldm (Software Update)
com.android.providers.applications (Search Application Provider)
com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox (Search)
com.sec.android.app.controlpanel (Task-Manager)
com.android.providers.userdictionary (User Dictionary)
com.sec.android.widgetapp.stockclock (Y! Finance Clock)
com.google.android.gm (Google Mail)

Essential Tweaks

Hey everyone! Hope you're all doing fine. I just updated to Android 10, coming from AICP Pie, and I noticed that battery life took a serious hit compared to AICP. Now I know that AICP (and probably many other custom ROMs) use EAS by default, which could be credited for the great performance and battery life you get with these setups. This didn't stop me from conducting some tests and experimenting with some changes in order to try and improve the battery life I am getting on Android 10 (and possibly all previous versions of the stock ROM). Anyway, without further ado, here is a script that tweaks the phone a little, which should improve your phone's battery life on STOCK ROMs, mainly Android 10 but it is also applicable to Android 9, though I have mainly tested it on Android 10 and the deprecated developer previews and beta builds of Android 10. A link to download the script is provided down below, right below the prerequisites and instructions.
Prerequisites
1- An Essential PH-1 (of course!)
2- Magisk (make sure to have the latest version installed)
3- A terminal emulator app -- I use this one here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jackpal.androidterm
4- Any file manager app.
Instructions
1- Download the script from the link below.
2- For more convenience, move the script you just downloaded to the root of your internal storage (/sdcard) using any file manager if your choice.
3- Open the terminal emulator app.
4- Type "su" (without the quotes) and hit the enter/return key on your keyboard to grant it root access (Magisk could display a pop-up window asking whether you want to grant this app root access. Make sure to tap in Grant. This usually happens once).
5- Afterwards, type "sh /sdcard/essential-tweaks" (without quotes) and hit the enter/return key on your keyboard to execute the script.
6- Voila! You're done!
--> In case you think the script has caused any regressions your are dissatisfied with, simply reboot your phone since this script doesn't automatically get applied on boot.
--> In case you rebooted your phone and wish to re-apply the script, simply follow the same instructions again.

Neat...
A kranel tweaker...
In my opinion:
The damn powerhint is probably the worst offender to battery...
Currently, with magisk, I just remove /vendor/etc/powerhint.xml
I am also using kernel touchboost so I can idle down to 300...
If your battery doesn't suck... You can switch back to 518 and 806 for minimum frequencies, disable msm touchboost, and kill the powerhint... And get MUCH closer to where you were with AICP on Pie

Is that similar to disabling perfd?
Because that is what I did (and incidentally what my script does).

No sir...
The powerhint has something to do with the PowerHals directly...
You'll notice if you watch any frequency monitor that when you touch the screen... It jumps to 1.1Ghz on both big and little ... That's NUTS...
It also will run the processor at 1.9 and 2.5 for 5 seconds on app launch... Also CRAZY and unnecessary
Perfd controls the profiles in /vendor/etc/... I think there's 8 of em...
And like mpdecision before it... It sucks...
On a side:
I've been on Q since beta 2... And have put together a magisk module that cuts frequencies down... 1.8 Max for little and 2.0 for big... Kills perfd... Kills the powerhint by replacing with a 0 byte file... Ups zram to 1 GB... And puts touchboost to 825 and 499...
I just incorporated your scheduler changes and I'll let you know what I come up with...
If you're interested in the module ... I'll share it .. just let me know
Edit: @KuranKaname approves the frequency choices BTW

Yes I know about the max frequency values. These used to be the default in Kuran's AICP too
Interesting, so you mean to say that this is completely different from perfd? Well, I only disabled perfd and I am not seeing the phone jumping back to 1.1GHz while interacting with the screen or locking on max frequencies while launching apps.
Also, what command are you using to disable perfd on Q? I just found out that the usual "stop perfd" command is not working anymore like it used to on Pie :/
I used EXKM to disable it and it works just fine :good:
Let me know if my sched tweaks bring any further improvements to you. Cheers!
EDIT: these input boost frequency values used to be the ones Sultanxda go for too iirc right?

OHHHH...
Are you using service.d to run your script?
If so... You need
while [ "$(getprop sys.boot_completed)" != 1 ];
do sleep 1;
done
sleep 5
Before... Otherwise init gonna reset your stuff...
And post-fs-data.d is WAAY too early
So I have been doing a lot of tracing and testing some new changes and, well, I think it is very difficult to squeeze any more battery life on stock ROMs. Which means that it is highly unlikely that this script is going to be updated with new additions as this is practically the best we could reach at the moment. However, I will keep digging deep and see if I can come up with any updates.
To put things into perspective, here is a quick comparison with the default stock ROM tunings.
By default, I would get an average active drain of 14%/h per charge cycle, peaking at 16%/h
After applying this script the average active drain rate would drop to around 12-13%/h, peaking at 15%/h.
In other words, there is around 1-2%/h improvement in active drain rate as per my usage.
Idle drain rate is fairly similar though.

Well, it was a desperate attempt by me to try and squeeze more juice on Android 10 custom ROMs, not sure it will work out on stock ROM. Basically, I am experimenting with different values for the cpusets and stune settings of each cgroup.
I'm still evaluating whether it has a significant impact or not. So far, it is almost the same...

I'm using elementalx kernel on android 10 nov update, and my battery drain in deep sleep is unusually high at 2 - 2.5% per hour.
I'm wondering if this script conflicts with anything with the kernel.
I took a look at the script and it looks like some of the settings I can apply in the kernel manager.

Just turned it off yesterday. What I have noticed with it off is that some apps that had to reload in memory because of MIUI's aggressive ram management now remain open. Battery seems to have increased a great deal. I'll screen shot what I end up with if you want after I leave work. I know its early but I'm at:
4.69% active drain
.67 % Standby
2h21m screen on
10 hrs Standby
77% battery
OFF is recommended if you are using China ROM.
MIUI optimization would block installation of "specific apps" due to you-know-what reasons.
I'm using xiaomi.eu, and when I turned it off it seemed to me the battery life got worse.
The xaomi.eu devs are very vocal about not wanting users to turn it off, because "they don't understand what it does." They won't explain what it actually does though, which makes me suspect they don't know themselves .
Interestingly, I was able to install vanced youtube using magisk (riru+riru edxposed yahfa modules) and edxposed (core patch-disable apk signature verification), without turning MIUI optimizations off. Which some people reported wasn't possible.
At first I tried using the unmentionable yellow app, but that caused a bootloop.

I'm on stable 12.0.8. actually.
It's true that the option to disable them is no longer visible in developer options. But you can do it by entering "setprop persist.sys.miui_optimization false" in shell, either on the phone directly or through adb shell. I do think you need root.
That disables it and shows the option in developer options again, in disabled state. But if you enable them again through developer options, the setting becomes hidden again and you need to perform the shell command again.
I keep it on for one simple reason:
In the latest MIUI12, if you turn off optimization you lose the new floating window feature, it just won't work at all. There might be other cool features that won't work but that's the only one I really use.

Most people won't be able to install apps such as Vanced with optimization on though, but it's only the installation process. So if you want to install such app but also have the floating window feature, well just turn it off, install your app and turn it back on.
i think that we should not turn it off it is part of MIUI.

Is that right? Oh, that's a super cool and useful feature to lose!

The vanced install problem is not with the magisk version but with the apk version an it's installer (and btw most updated because magisk module is very outdated)

Not sure what you mean. AFAIK you need to disable apk signature verification to be able to install a modded (system) app which Google would never allow.
You should download the latest (canary) version of the framework through Edxposed manager, but install it through Magisk manager.
Also, in my setup sometimes it would say Edxposed framework was installed but not active, but it would still function. So I think there's a bug in the detection.

So if I installed Vanced already via the apk, can I turn MIUI optimization back on without losing Vanced?
My battery is draining much faster after I turned it off and the battery bar doesn't work( the colorful one, the regular battery indicator is fine)

As I said before, yes.
MIUI optimization only prevents installation. Once Vanced (or any other app) is installed, turning it back on doesn't affect them. They work perfectly fine with optimization ON.

Miui optimization being on didn't stop me from installing any third party apps including Vanced and several others from backup apks from my OnePlus 7 pro all before root. How did you come to that conclusion?

Hm idk, probably because I own a poco f2 pro and had to disable optimization in order to install vanced but could turn it back on afterwards? (Like a lot of people owning a Xiaomi with miui 11+)
Do you have any more of these odd questions?

Mr. sarcasm my question, if you even fully read it, was sparked by my own personal experience with this device that I've owned for last than a week. Responding to a question with a question just shows your too simple minded to realize that I wasnt attacking you at all. As a senior member here I do feel it is somewhat of a responsibility to make sure correct information is given. There are three ways to install Vanced if I recall correctly. Apk version worked for me optimization on on global and again on eu. You see how easy that was to give useful information or did that computer with hair growing out of it on your shoulders process that as odd too?

The senior member calling me dumb with spelling mistakes isn't helping in a better way.
I also mentioned I was talking about the poco f2 pro, which is the current forum for this question.
So I answered people who asked a question on this phone's forum.
Your experience with a different phone might differ.
Also, the latest way of installing vanced now is using their manager, which is the recommended way that most new users will be using.

Question Background apps draining battery problem

Hi guys,
I'm not a developer but after hours and days of searching online to no avail, I hope you can help me.
I have been using my Poco x5 pro 5G for a few days. Noticed battery draining way too fast. As I tried to diagnose and solve the problem, I tried completely limiting background activity for the battery-eating apps, that showed as such under the "battery" section (Facebook, WhatsApp etc.).
However, even after doing this, these apps are *still* running in the background! Some of them, in addition to Facebook etc. - are apps I haven't even opened at all for the last few days.
Each time I enter the battery tab and see what apps are running - even if I do this say 3 times immediately in a row - new apps keep appearing, ones I haven't even opened, alongside ones I actually manually limited to no background activity at all.
Please see photos attached.
So frustrating. Why is this happening? What can be done about this?
Thank you!
Use universal android debloater to remove most apps coming with the phone. In my x5 pro it removed 62 packages and my battery on normal use lasts about 2 days

Thanks for your reply. I already did this (however, manually), removed many apps. And the problem persists.
Also, this doesn't explain apps still running in the background after I completey minimized their activity.

It works without root? There is any tutorial or so? After 6 years with a rooted device and costum roms it's a little desperate to have the stock miui with all the junk in it
1. Change DNS in setting to DNS.google
2. Install Adguard (full app) from adguard.com
Have a nice day

I've got a problem regarding Poco X5 Pro 5G, when my phone is off and I put the charger....it chargest to %95 without any problem and gets stuck at %95. Doesn't matter how long I wait it doesn't help at all. But if I start up my phone then the charging continues to %100. Does anybody know what's causing this behavior?

It's better. But I'd still expect more from a new phone. I could easily end the day with around 20%. It's fine, but i'd expect better from what I've read about other users' experience with this phone.
