Question Background apps draining battery problem - Xiaomi Poco X5 Pro

Hi guys,
I'm not a developer but after hours and days of searching online to no avail, I hope you can help me.
I have been using my Poco x5 pro 5G for a few days. Noticed battery draining way too fast. As I tried to diagnose and solve the problem, I tried completely limiting background activity for the battery-eating apps, that showed as such under the "battery" section (Facebook, WhatsApp etc.).
However, even after doing this, these apps are *still* running in the background! Some of them, in addition to Facebook etc. - are apps I haven't even opened at all for the last few days.
Each time I enter the battery tab and see what apps are running - even if I do this say 3 times immediately in a row - new apps keep appearing, ones I haven't even opened, alongside ones I actually manually limited to no background activity at all.
Please see photos attached.
So frustrating. Why is this happening? What can be done about this?
Thank you!

Use universal android debloater to remove most apps coming with the phone. In my x5 pro it removed 62 packages and my battery on normal use lasts about 2 days

Thanks for your reply. I already did this (however, manually), removed many apps. And the problem persists.
Also, this doesn't explain apps still running in the background after I completey minimized their activity.

It works without root? There is any tutorial or so? After 6 years with a rooted device and costum roms it's a little desperate to have the stock miui with all the junk in it

1. Change DNS in setting to DNS.google
2. Install Adguard (full app) from adguard.com
Have a nice day

I've got a problem regarding Poco X5 Pro 5G, when my phone is off and I put the charger....it chargest to %95 without any problem and gets stuck at %95. Doesn't matter how long I wait it doesn't help at all. But if I start up my phone then the charging continues to %100. Does anybody know what's causing this behavior?

It's better. But I'd still expect more from a new phone. I could easily end the day with around 20%. It's fine, but i'd expect better from what I've read about other users' experience with this phone.

Addware /bloatware or virus in a UMI diamond X stock ?

Hi
A friend bought a UMI diamond X a month ago.
From yesterday he stars to have some commercials each time that he takes his phone.
Did the put something in the stock rom that activate after a little time of use ?
Someone knows something?
thanks
I don't know if there is a delay or not before adds start but Chinese phones are known to have quite aggressive ad network even with stock apps & they have weak privacy often, so it could be a stock app. Some Chinese phones have also been shown to do silent upgrades, so you don't know when they update something (can't recall if Umi is one) which is why is may only start a month later.
However it could be due to malware/adware downloaded from a website or if he has used one of the Chinese app stores to get an app or any store that is not Google you are increasing your risks, those stores are not well regulated and many apps have had adware/malware inserted into legitimate looking apps like youtube etc. Did he recently download some apps from an app store that was NOT Google?

(also lookout for Chinese apps (or any other unusual apps) with western alphabet like Baidu, which this guy seems to ignore)

As far as I know he didn't install something for a while and on the umi diamond X there is no parallel app store.
He did a factory reset but if there are new commercial pop up i'll try your links , thank you again
Android 5.0 and above, just download, install DNS66 from Fdroid. Update all hosts file.

I have the same problem, couple days ago commercials started shows all time, i tried use DNS66 and it doesn't help.
Do anybody know how to root this phone?
I can tell that on UMI Super apart from the battery additions and MediaTek apps there is no of that, very little bloat.. alost AOSP.
This also should help you identify some MTK apps http://bitlog.it/re/dissecting-an-android-chinaphone/

I have exactly the same problem. Ad starts showing up on lock screen and every few day some fake app installs out of nowhere. What can I do?
Wrote about it here on xda
The only thing I haven't tried yet is going to stock but now I found this topic and not sure if even that would help. Did OP had any luck with this?

I saw another forum where someone says you need to freeze the "super cleaner" app (can't be uninstalled) that comes with the phone to stop this & maybe any of the DU branded apps also if they
(edit: on other phone eg Zuji they have another app "battery saver " that seems to work similarly and serve ads or/or push apps to your phone in the same way that needed to be frozen)
I am having lots of problems with my umi diamond x screen keeps jumping and goes into the black screen with all your settings on like wifi aeroplane mode screen brightness etc it locks up the phone, I am also getting lots of adds and the phone is getting hot and using up the battery too, I have taken the sim out and sd card and it still does this so the issues are not sd or sim so it must be the operating system on the phone or something, I have tried everything but cant fix can anyone help or should I just buy a new phone
you can try a factory reset or you can flash the phone with an original room or a custom room but as far as I remember there are very few custom ROMs for this phone

An "evil" APK inside the OS, that drives me crazy

Hi !
I am ex-owner of Nokia 7 Plus and new owner of 8.1. After a few days with this phone, i have noticed, that there's something wrong with multitasking and background services, that are supposed to receive push notifications such as Messenger. Multitasking is a nightmare as compared to Nokia 7 Plus or Zenfone 2. Phone closes running apps and cleans RAM too quickly/ too aggresively. The same thing happens to push enabled apps such as Messenger, Facebook etc. Notifications appear with big delay (up to 5 minutes). I have made a discovery and i have noticed, that Adaptive Battery keeps turning back on itself + according to https://dontkillmyapp.com the problem is that one nasty system APK called "Battery Saving" (com.evenwell.powersaving.g3). I can tell this APK is a troublemaker, because once force closed, problem is gone until next reboot. It can't be disabled permanently. It's frustrating.
The faster Nokia gets rid of this APK or fixes it, the better.
I haven't encountered any delays with respect to the delivery of my notifications. But I do agree that some apps are killed way too early whereas they should be kept in memory. Maybe they are just trying to find a balance between users who want more battery backup and those who need constantly running apps in the background. I do not mind closed apps, but all I want is a whitelist which ensures me that these few apps will never be touched by the battery optimizer.
I don't face any notification delays or anything like that, and apps over a period of time are and should be removed from background ,that aggressive power saving is from Google itslef not from Nokia ,if someone still wants to make it run all the time then select don't optimise from power options it should help
My kids have a 6.1 but don't appear to have this program in their apps listing, so I'm wondering if maybe it's been removed in a monthly patch at some point? If people are still having this problem, have you tried following the instructions on the linked site (dontkillmyapp) to remove it with ADB?
i dont face notification delay... all good
Supposedly Nokia removed the culprit (evenwell) from their devices, so I take it that all is good now? (I will be receiving the 8.1 today, so wanting to make sure I do my homework).

There is no such apk called com.evenwell.powersaving.g3 on my Nokia 8.1
It is easy to uninstall those aplications, i have a 7 plus and have uninstalled all evenwell cancer of the phone. Check on Nokia 7 plus forums, you need a pc and copy past a command and that's it.

[GUIDE] Ways to decrease battery drain for poco

Hello guys,
I am happy to share some ways to decrease battery drain for which is problem for most poco stock miui non root users:
1- Go to every app you don't want on background (always active) and make it (restricted backgroud activity) through Settings-Manage app-choose your app-battery saver
2- For system app: you can do the same by going Settings-Manage app-choose your app-permissions-information icon-battery-choose first option and then restrict app
3- Network signals some times drains battery alot, you could decrease it by changing network bands by the following:
Go to dialer and write (*#*#4636#*#*)-phone information-set preferred network-choose LTE\CDMA\UMTS auto prl (tested on global rom was good), note that you need to change it again after every reboot
4- Disable adaptive limit battery option through Setting-battery&perfomance
5-Activate force close button through Setting-additional setting-buttons&gestures-close current app and choose shortcut you want, then at any app you should force close when you are finished with it.
6- Go to every MIUI app and disable automatic updates and recommendation receive
7- Disable location when you are finished through Setting-additional settings-privacy-location and also disable wifi scanning after every disable
8- Go to Google app through Settings-Google and disable every activity on it as you can
9- Install Greenify app from store and work with (non root device) and hibernate all apps you don't need as background
10- Disable automatic brightness, and also decrease the brightness as you can to save power
11- Go to settings-additional settings-privacy-special access-Battery optimization and then make all apps (optimized)
12-Go to settings-additional settings-authorization&revocation and then disable all apps except (updater-system app updater-feedback-battery&performance-Xiaomi sim activation-settings)
I hope these steps could help you and I'm waiting your comments for additional ways or correcting anything
Any review or test results ?
Just wondering wtf is even benefit of 4000mah battery if we need to disable every single app to get battery life. It's their optimisation not good with the latest stable build of miui

Its not their thing its an android thing. It gets heavier with every update, and since they (its a good thing gone bad) made a lot of those updates standalone of android version it makes like old tablets unusable over the yeras unlike them ipads.
That being said, the advantage of having 4000mah battery is that you still get through every day and have more than the usual midrange 3000mah phone. I get through any day for weeks now even playing games. The tips in this thread are awesome and apply to any phone.
I might as well advise you to clean your USB type-c port once in a while with toothpick since dusts can cause unnecessary wakelocks to your device

Instead of doing all these, just spend a few bucks and get a powerbank.

Hi magaedy, this list is very useful thank you very much.
Thanks to a RF detector, i found out that my Poco was emitting very often without being sollicited, now I know what to try first.
(In case you are interested in my setup, you can have a look on YouTube searching JaMa6iK4lbM).

Hi magaedy, no, the Pocophone F1 has nothing special regarding its RF electromagnetic radiation, it is just that I own one and that I can do some tests with it. In terms of SAR (Specific Absorption Rate), the Poco even complies with the FCC threshold which is the most stringent.
As a personal point view, i would just avoid to keep it onto my body when i must upload big files, or onto my head for long phone calls, especially when i'm not sure about the RF coverage (bad coverage implies that the mobile emits at its full power, which is e.g. 2 watts in GSM 900).
Depending on my LED light, now I can tell for sure

Cheers

I would also wanted to add some battery saving tips:
1. Stick to only one, either Google or MIUI, cloud sync provider then disable everything you don't need on the other.
2. Go to Settings -> Permissions -> Other permissions -> Permissions (tab) -> Start in Background. Only choose the apps that you wanted permissions to receive notifications or third-party sync apps regularly. Others should be disabled. (IDK if this conflicts with MIUI's battery saver but I did it anyway).
3. Disable Double tap to wake or enable it in combination with pocket mode.
4. Put your phone on your pocket with display facing your leg. Prevents false trigger of FP scanner.
I have another suggestion. If using a custom ROM, don't install GApps. Instead use MicroG . I haven't done a side by side comparison, and I'll admit my usage today has been fairly lite, but so far my battery life is great!
I'm running the latest AOSiP ROM.

It allows you to fake details. For example location. So apps that don't work unless you allow them location access think you're somewhere else. But it covers all permissions you can give. This is provided on an app by app basis.

Yes, but it's negligible. Rootless adblocking and/or firewall can only really be done with a VPN. I strongly recommend Netguard from the same author as Xprivacylua. This combines both a rootless firewall and adblock in one and has a fantastic interface. There is a free and donation version.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to run both on a wifi connection and switch off the VPN blocker when running off of data only to help save a little battery.
I run XPrivacyLua (and Pro) just fine.
Also:
AOSP Mods (lots of customization not available elsewhere)
AdAway
Battery Charge Limit (to limit charging to only between 84-89%)
Lucky Patcher
Solid Explorer (I've preferred SE for years due to dual-screen in landscape mode)
Substratum & Substratum Lite (some themes refuse to work with one or the other)
Swift Backup (best backup since Ti)
For blocking ads, I paid for AdGuard a couple years ago, in conjunction with AdAway and limits set in XPrivacyLua, I see ZERO ads, plus AdGuard works with other platforms too, so I've got it running on a couple of my PCs as well. It's not a root app, but I've never had a battery drain from it. It does show that it's often awake, but that's because it's working - it's not actually taking up battery.

XPrivacyLua is just like the old AppOps application that allows you FULL control over what an app does. Read what it does, I'm sure they can explain it better than I can, suffice it to say that I use it to block google, tiktok and tumblr. I don't use Facebook, Instagram or any other social media on my phone or they would be in that list too.
You can spoof your location, IMEI, MEID, your phone number, etc and even randomize them every time your phone reboots - that way, whatever app you've run through XPrivacyLua is getting garbage info about you. You can't just wontonly shut everything down - things will quit working pretty quickly if you tun off the wrong things, and its all trial and error - but it's easy to back out and fix.

I use it to change things like my battery icon, combine the signal icons, force the 4G icon because it's a little smaller than the LTE icon, change the QS panel, lock screen, etc. There are LOTS of functions that this makes available.

No, the Substratum I have always used asks for root permission. I've found that some themes refuse to install or don't work properly in the regular Substratum so I use Substratum Lite too.

You can't buy AdGuard through the Google Play store, you have to buy it straight from AdGuard. Since it circumvents most of Google's ability to throw ads at you, Google doesn't allow you to just buy it through them.
https://adguard.com/en/welcome.html
I bought the family lifetime license for 9 devices for $170. I tried it out for a few months and then decided this app is good enough to pay for. They do offer monthly subscription for 3 devices for $3/month. I would suggest running a trial on your phone and your computer for a little bit just to see what it can do for you, if you like it, buy it. For me it works wonders, I DETEST ads and with my combination of settings, AdGuard, AdAway and XPrivacyLua, I don't see any at all.
Well, that's not totally true, I see ads in Tumblr, but I haven't really tried to mess with it much as I'm not on it enough to really care about an ad once in a while.

Well, that's a really great question. I only installed it recently and have no experience with the app, so I figured that when it charges to 89% that it says it's 100% full, do you know what I mean? -- I thought that when I set 89, that became the new 100. I see it say "100%" in battery stats but I haven't used a battery app to track what it's actually doing. I just figured that since it's supposed to control the battery control config, that that's what it's doing...
If it hasn't changed any values for the battery, how would I know?

I don't think it's working for you, and it sounds like you're misunderstanding how it works?
On my OnePlus 7T, charging literally stopped when the battery hit (in my case) 80% full. If you wanted to, you could turn off the app (or raise the limit) and it would keep charging to the new setting (or 100% if you so chose).

You're probably right, if I set 89 and it shows 100 at full charge, then it sounds like it's not working.
I didn't know how it worked but I came up with the idea that if I set a number as the top limit, that the new number becomes the new 100%. If that's not how it works, then it's not working.
I have installed aospmods but most of the features do not work.
How can I get it to work?

It's okay to post in this thread that it's not working for you (although it is working for others), but please only post about the same problem in a single place. Continue your discussion where you posted in the AOSP Mods thread:
[MOD][Xposed+Magisk][13 Compatible] AOSP Mods - System modifications for AOSP-based Android 12+
This is a mixed Xposed+Magisk module, which is made to allow customizations that are not originally designed in AOSP (Android Open Source Project). Features: Currently, AOSP Mods offers customizations on different aspects of system framework and...

General Another screen on time record

I set records at one point for lgg2 g3 g5 s8 s10 and note 20 for screen on times. Here's another for the books I bet lol
Stock one ui latest update. US device no root.
Adb disable what I don't use. Must of it was on about 25% brightness. Wifi bluetooth and real crappy signal.
No major tweak obviously no root. I got a feeling though I can get more. I started my endurance tests at about 50% remaining.
Most of it was web browsing. With use for a few other apps through the day.
I wonder how much you can get out of it after debloating

I'm on the latest us security patch and hex is working for me. I set it up as it asked.for no root.
Only ad block I use is on samsung internet explorer. I like to think most of my screen on time is from not using as many aftermarket apps as most. I'm not on tiktok. Twitter. Snap chat. All of that. Mainly discord telegram.
Instead of using other apps to do what's built in I use the Samsung apps for just about everything. 60hz refresh rate. Screen at 25% or less. These devices are a lot brighter than before.
I use adb to disable a lot of stuff. Auto sync for most apps is off. If I don't have wifi I shut it off. Same with Bluetooth but I do use my galaxy watch 1 still for most of my calls and text. I'm sure there's more. One of these days I'll have to do a reset and detail the list
