How to backup and root droid maxx s 19.6.3 a 4.4 su2-3.3? - Motorola Droid Maxx

What are the safest ways to backup my Maxx and then unlock, and if possible, root it? As in the title, I have an (old!):
droid maxx
Motorola X8
Android 4.4
Kernel 3.4.42-ge1d6506-0006-g9ddacc8... (Wed Apr 30 2014)
Build "
Build SU2-3.3
Unfortunately, it is (most likely) not a developer version, just a plain old Verizon customer version (bought I think in 2014).
It only took a system update once a long time ago when my SO accidentally updated it (many years ago). Since then, it keeps annoying me for system updates now, but I keep rejecting them and disabled the play store ( Google Play Store vers 10.8.33-all [0] [PR] 205773289) and as many things as I could, hoping I can root this sucker at some point. I just install apks directly whenever I need something.
If it is not unlockable/unrootable, are there any other options for playing with it through adb on the computer, etc...? Are there any options for permanently disabling the pesky update notifications so I never accidentally hit them, or even better, getting rid of whatever the update was? I'm a long time lurker on this forum but always got too busy to play with it before. I am currently using it as my primary phone as I'm trying to save money by not buying a new one. I love the battery life on this thing, even with regular use for 5 or 6 years.
Thank you all so much.

1: Back up ALL data.
2: Install Sunshine from theroot.ninja.
3: Enjoy twrp.
Sunshine requires you to pay $25 USD dollars.

GT-P5113 few to no compatible apps suddenly after 4.2.2 update

My girlfriend just recently informed me that her tablet hasn't had any compatible apps for a while now, I think the issue arose when it updated to 4.2.2
She had a lot of various apps on there that simply disappeared. When you open the google play store on the tablet, there's quite literally only guides and crap that can install, all the major apps are no longer listed. When opening the google play store on a computer to the full website all the apps she used to have now say she doesn't own a compatible device.
She can't even install any of the Where's My Water games, which she loved
Overall it's rendered the tablet almost useless. Clearly this isn't right because all those apps worked before it updated.
Anyone have any fixes for me? I'm not experienced with android but I am very experienced with everything else IT wise (4+ years helpdesk) so if I need to root this thing i'm sure I can with a little guidance. I'd rather just get it to working again though. I've already tried a full factory restore, didn't fix it.

oh one more thing, we're in school abroad (Grenada) so the update occurred outside the united states, could that have disabled access to most all apps? I just did another factory reset here on campus (US based internet, appears in NYC) and still no go.
Is the preferred thing to do on these root/Cyanogenmod to android 4.3/might that fix it?
Thanks in advance!
Problem solved! As it turns out, Google got smart and somehow recognized the internet here as Grenada (they didn't before) and Grenada isn't an approved country for most everything. All I had to do was login to the google play store on a computer through a VPN to the US and everything appeared and I could send whatever to the tablet from there.
Of course, I figured this out AFTER I spent the time to do Odin/CWM/SlimKat but hey extra perk, slimkat is pretty damn sweet.

Amazon App Store questions - two stores, and auto-update

Hi.
I have two questions about the Amazon App Store that I have not been able to find answers to anywhere so far.
1. When the Underground App Store came out, it seemed to slowly replace the old original Amazon App Store, but I didn't see it mentioned anywhere that the old store needed to be uninstalled, and I am concerned that the Underground App Store may not be able to manage all my previously installed apps, especially Free App Of The Day apps. Does anyone know if it is safe to delete the original Amazon App Store while still able to manage any older Amazon-downloaded apps?
2. One of the Amazon App Stores (not sure which one) has recently (early 2016) started the nasty habit of automatically updating all my Amazon-downloaded apps whenever a new update is available, and I am not OK with this. Most important of all, it doesn't seem to ask me about changed permissions anymore! I have not found any way of disabling this behavior so far. I even emailed Amazon customer service about this and was told they'd have to talk to me on the phone about this as it is a more complex issue - yea, right...
FYI, I know enough about Android to root my phone and browse the file structure, and I have some Linux experience, so either there is no easily found option for question 2 or I am suffering from temporary blindness which tends to happen occasionally...
I'm on a Samsung Galaxy S5 on Verizon, rooted, Android 4.4.4 Kernel 3.4.0, in case it helps. I disabled Android Software Updates so towelroot doesn't get disabled.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

Used Shield Portable has error code 190 with Google Play Store

Cross-posted from General Q&A as suggested:
Two days ago I received a used Nvidia Shield Portable that I won on eBay. It is bootloader unlocked and on the last official OTA, but otherwise stock. It was unable to complete the network connection test, which I eventually skipped. Oddly, the Google Play Store app (as well as Google Play Services) was seemingly not installed. I wound up installing the latest APKs of each from APKMirror via Chrome. I then discovered that the HOSTS file was outdated, so I rooted my device, then used a root explorer app to delete said HOSTS file so it could regenerate with good data. It now connects to the Google servers fine, and it is at this point that I am struggling with Play Store\Services error code 190. The last thing I tried was to move the folders of said core apps from the internal data to root and attempt to make them system apps. I gave both of them every permission under the sun, but even after rebooting, i'm not sure that the move and permission granting stuck. I think my issue has to do with app permissions and\or or authentication between my device and Google's infrastructure. Finally, if a custom ROM is the best route, i'm totally cool with that.
Please advise.
I recently did a factory reset of my Shield., which has Android 4.4.2. The stock play store that comes with it needing updating before I could use it. It updated automatically once I signed in to Google. I have a working back up of the Google Play Store and Services. after the update. They should work for Lollipop, but not sure. I can upload them if you want.
Just curious, how much did your Shield cost on eBay?
$110 with shipping.
I managed to fix my device by flashing the last Nvidia OTA manually. Everything that was broken before seems peachy now.
Thanks anyway, I appreciate it.

Motorola XT2125-4 EdgeS Help needed

Hi,
I purchased a new phone a Motorola Edge S (hardware SKU XT2125-4), unfortunately it is a China ROM phone which means it didn't come with Google play store. This was side loaded and I am able to install apps from google. But I have SO many issues with this and I am hoping someone has something helpful to actually use this phone
1. When I try to use Google setup a nearby device (to transfer everything over to this phone), it simply can't find my new phone (despite having bluetooth and location on for both phones
2. I can't restore contacts from google drive even though I can connect
3. I downloaded the MAGISK app, however the file browser is unable to install as the app is not allowed. The toggle to trust the app can not be changed.
I am at a loss as to how to actually use this phone as essentially it's useless at the moment. Any help would be appreciated.
It is already running Android Version 11
Baseband version M55_HI20_209.334.01.60R NIO_PVT_SUPERSDS_CUST
Kernel Version 4.19.136-perf+
Build Number RRN31.Q1-20-17-6
I can provide any / all other information if needed
If the solution is to root the phone, I'm ok with that too, but see point 3.
I'm in the same situation. Purchased the XT2125 as well. Got the Google stuff working by side loading the play store, services and framework. However, initially, while everything else was working, the contacts wouldn't sync. After a few hours of searching, finally came across an article which said that I also needed to side load an apk called google contacts sync and give it permission. Contacts started syncing after that. Fast forward a couple of days and a system update later, SMS are delivered with really long delays and outbound ones fail. Google maps crashes constantly and navigation just doesn't work. I don't know what to do with this phone now honestly, since I need Google maps navigation on a regular basis. Have tried reinstalling maps, resetting permissions, clearing cache and data but nothing seems to work. And with the SMS delay, I can't sign on our complete transactions on a lot of apps because the SMS usually arrives after such a delay that the code has expired. Feels like such a waste of money this phone even though it's supposed to be great bang for the buck.
I am hopeful that when they release the Moto G100 (same phone actually), that we will be able to flash it with this ROM to make it usable.

Wait it's like that with motorola too
I thought it's only like that with xiaomi
Seems like even with motorola it doesn't come with google apps if it's a china rom
Though it was only with xiaomi where if it's a china rom it doesn't come with any google apps guess im wrong

Yeah, I think it's being released in a couple of days. Anyway, I did a factory reset and the maps issues sorted out. Had to go through the pain of sideloading google again but the device is being shown as google play certified, but yeah, would be nice to just have the international rom on it.
Were you able to make any headway with your device? I didn't put a sim in mine but the rest of it seems to be working ok, except Youtube Vanced isn't signing in with a google account.

Can you update Fire tablet after debloating it with Toolbox?

Hi you all,
I ordered an Amazon Fire HD10+ tablet that will be arriving today. I went with the Fire because you can run that Toolbox program to debloat it and make it more like stock android. But on one of the tutorials I watched, the guy said you can't do "over the air" updates or else all the Amazon bloatware will reinstall, is that true? In other words you can't do system or software updates? On my Motorolla e5 smartphone, I have auto updates disabled, I like to do them manually on my own time. Occasionally I check for Android updates, and then I go to Google Play and update my apps. What's the deal, how do you do your system and app updates on a Fire Tablet after cleaning it up with Fire Toolbox? Because if I can't do that, I'm not even opening the box and sending it right back.
Thank you, first time poster here.
Yeah I'm going to send this Fire HD back, it's never been opened. From what I"m gathering, once you debloat the device with Toolbox, you can't update Android anymore, or else they reinstall their garbage. I don't want to be playing some cat and mouse game with Amazon, them forcing bloatware on my screen, and then I have to figure out how to remove it.
I think I'm going with a Lenovo Smart Tab M10 HD. At least it's more standard Android and has Google Play. Even comes with a charging stand, not bad for $135.
