Can you update Fire tablet after debloating it with Toolbox? - General Questions and Answers

Hi you all,
I ordered an Amazon Fire HD10+ tablet that will be arriving today. I went with the Fire because you can run that Toolbox program to debloat it and make it more like stock android. But on one of the tutorials I watched, the guy said you can't do "over the air" updates or else all the Amazon bloatware will reinstall, is that true? In other words you can't do system or software updates? On my Motorolla e5 smartphone, I have auto updates disabled, I like to do them manually on my own time. Occasionally I check for Android updates, and then I go to Google Play and update my apps. What's the deal, how do you do your system and app updates on a Fire Tablet after cleaning it up with Fire Toolbox? Because if I can't do that, I'm not even opening the box and sending it right back.
Thank you, first time poster here.

Yeah I'm going to send this Fire HD back, it's never been opened. From what I"m gathering, once you debloat the device with Toolbox, you can't update Android anymore, or else they reinstall their garbage. I don't want to be playing some cat and mouse game with Amazon, them forcing bloatware on my screen, and then I have to figure out how to remove it.
I think I'm going with a Lenovo Smart Tab M10 HD. At least it's more standard Android and has Google Play. Even comes with a charging stand, not bad for $135.

Amazon app store shenanigans

Curious To see if anyone else had this issue or can recreate it.
I doubt it is intentional, but it is seemingly a good way to punish anyone who uninstalls the Amazon app store.
I am using a Motorola Photon 4G and I installed the Amazon appstore a few months back, mainly because of their free app per day. Anyway, in that few months I've downloaded quite a few apps from the Amazon appstore.
Tonight I was deciding to do some cleanup and started uninstalling apps left and right. And while I was at it, I decided to uninstall the amazon appstore app since I haven't really used it for a little while.
The first thing that initially surprised me, then I sort of accepted, was that when I went to use an email app I got from amazon, even though it was available in the Google android market as well, it showed me the inbox but forced a popped up that was telling me that I have to have the amazon app store installed before I could use the app. Like I said, at first it did surprise me, and in fact pissed me off, but I sort of made at least temporary peace with it by realizing that Google gets the advantage of having the required "market app" installed to possibly track what apps you use (in exchange for the free of charge market service, of course), So why shouldn't they get the same benefit?
But the second thing I noticed has pretty much pissed me off. Besides that I couldn't use any apps that I downloaded from the amazon app store (or at least that email app I downloaded from them) but I couldn't use my "paid for" apps either. But that still isn't the biggest issue.
The issue I want to know if it can be re- created is that once I uninstalled the amazon app store, my phone screen was now very unresponsive, scrolling, typing, etc. was all very laggy or didn't respond at all until I would touch 2 or 3 times. It was so bad that when my pattern lock came on, it would lag so much I couldn't get back into my phone for at least 10 or 12 tries. Even trying to pull down the notification bar was nearly impossible as the connection would be lost every half second between my finger in the screen thus making the notification bar recede back up.
I didn't immediately recognize it was the removal of the amazon app store application that caused this, so for several hours I was trying to troubleshoot what processes or applications was causing this. Finally, in order to use one of my paid applications, I reluctantly reinstalled the amazon app store application.
And all of that lag and unresponsiveness disappeared entirely immediately upon installation of the amazon app store application.
Now, I doubt that it is intentional, but at the same time I don't put it past Amazon given something else uber-unethical they willfully did a while ago that is unrelated.
Nonetheless, even if it is not intentional, it is a huge deal if the removal of the amazon app store is the direct cause of this happening to many people, not just me. So, I was wondering if anyone else has had this experience, or would like to try to recreate it and report back ( again, simply reinstalling the amazon application store fixed the problem).
Thanks,
Joe

Don't know but I can't even login to Amazon Appstore with my username and password.
Keeps saying it's wrong but it's right. Checked many times.
Weird.

[Q] Are tons of titles not available in your market?

Often when I buy or install an app for my phone I see that the same app is not available for my tablet. If it was just few things I wouldn't care, but it seems disproportionately high.
Is my market screwed up or does everyone have that?
If it is everyone, what gives? I can see some games limiting resolution for performance reasons but there are a lot of other apps I see prohibited that don't make sense.
I know, it's highly annoying. Most developers haven't updated their list of compatible devices in months, except to add the S3. It's a simple thing to do, but they just don't care. I have a ton of supposed 'not compatible' apps that run just fine, but can't be installed through the market because they're too lazy to change their list of devices. Morons...
You can sideload most apps and games. (Install on phone and copy the data to your tablet manually. The process is explained on the forum here somewhere.)
They're forcing us to consider alternate methods of acquiring the apps, especially when you don't have a second Android device. (like me..) We don't want to download, but they're not exactly giving us much of a choice... >.<
I noticed that most EA games not available. Sucks because I bought Dead space and Mass effect on phone and they are great games but wanted to play on a big screen.
Also Flipboard I use. I did sideload it and its working quite well. Some problems occur but still very usable.
I don't think it is just the whole updating the compatibility list, with many apps - It's b/c there are things that simply do not work on tablets for whatever reason, and so they ahve not been made to show compatibility for tablets.
I have found at least 15-20 apps from my BIONIC that I cannot install on my tablet, one of them being the Amazon App Store - which sucks b/c I got OpenOffice Pro free through Amazon and now cannot install it on my tablet without sideloading it.

Amazon apps after marshmallow update

Since I got the 6.0.1 update on my Verizon note 5, I have not been able to update any amazon apps or download any. I use amazon instant video a ton. And I can't get the app on my note 5. I tried doing a factory reset(what started the issue I think) and also used samsung smart switch on my computer to go back to a precious software. I can reinstall marshmallow, but when I update again I just notice a huge lag on my phone. So I reset it and now it won't work. Every time I try to install through the browser it fails. And so I'm unsure what to do next and would like some suggestions, please. Thanks in advance!
I installed Aptoide and updated the amazon apps through there successfully.
Log out of amazon underground app and really log in. Helped me. Also if amazon video won't pull up videos...disable amazon underground app in app management. Then start prime video. Then enable underground app

I haven't tried aptoid, I'll have to try that, thank you! And I've logged out of the Amazon app several times, but it doesn't fix anything.
I couldn't get any of the Amazon apps to update through aptoid. However I did find an older version of Amazon video ask to install on the phone thanks for the help!
I couldn't get the Amazon App Store to work. I uninstalled, cleared cashe, re-installed all the apps and still a no go. I then checked using the Debloater program (mentioned in Verizon Note 5 forums) and realized I had disabled Amazon Underground. After re-enabling it in the Debloater, everything worked as normal.
Oh that makes sense. I've made sure I have the Amazon underground app active. It just won't update. I'll just have to wait for the next software update and see if that fixes it. Hopefully it does.
I was having the same issue. I re-enabled Amazon Audible app and now all the Amazon apps update correctly.

I am having the same issue and am unable to install any amazon apps. I am also unable to install the Amazon shopping app from the play store and receive a 505 error. I am currently working with Amazon tech support and will post my answer here if they are able to supply an answer.
You have to have every amazon related app enabled otherwise it won't let you update. So like others, I had to re enable audible, amazon music, amazon store(underground) , and Amazon Kindle. I didn't realize that audible was part of the suite so thank you bacchus258 for pointing that out. What a pain in the ass to have to disable and enable everytime you update an amazon app. My Alexa wouldnt even update with Audible disabled.
Thanks! I didn't realize they all had to be enabled either. That worked perfectly though! Thanks so much! I hadn't been able to do that and it was killing me!
I can't believe I didn't see this post, I was having the same problem. Was driving me nuts because I have prime and use their apps. Searched high and low with nothing. Even factory reset my phone. But I can confirm, I enabled auduble and everything worked.

I had Audible enabled, but had to sign into it for everything to update and work correctly....
Thank God I found this forum. I was about to lose my mind with this stupid phone update and not being able to use the Amazon apps. Logging out of my Appstore account, then logging back in, then opening the Audible app--that fixed all of it. It's completely bizarre that this was necessary (I have never even used Audible), but whatever, it worked! Thank you to those who posted here!
I don't use Audible
I have no idea why I would have to turn on the Audible App. I don't use it, it came pre-installed on my phone, I had un-updated it, and disabled it. However, thanks to everyone's feedback re-enabling and updating Audible allowed the Amazon apps to be installed.

Amazon App Store questions - two stores, and auto-update

Hi.
I have two questions about the Amazon App Store that I have not been able to find answers to anywhere so far.
1. When the Underground App Store came out, it seemed to slowly replace the old original Amazon App Store, but I didn't see it mentioned anywhere that the old store needed to be uninstalled, and I am concerned that the Underground App Store may not be able to manage all my previously installed apps, especially Free App Of The Day apps. Does anyone know if it is safe to delete the original Amazon App Store while still able to manage any older Amazon-downloaded apps?
2. One of the Amazon App Stores (not sure which one) has recently (early 2016) started the nasty habit of automatically updating all my Amazon-downloaded apps whenever a new update is available, and I am not OK with this. Most important of all, it doesn't seem to ask me about changed permissions anymore! I have not found any way of disabling this behavior so far. I even emailed Amazon customer service about this and was told they'd have to talk to me on the phone about this as it is a more complex issue - yea, right...
FYI, I know enough about Android to root my phone and browse the file structure, and I have some Linux experience, so either there is no easily found option for question 2 or I am suffering from temporary blindness which tends to happen occasionally...
I'm on a Samsung Galaxy S5 on Verizon, rooted, Android 4.4.4 Kernel 3.4.0, in case it helps. I disabled Android Software Updates so towelroot doesn't get disabled.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

amazon appstore on huawei p10 (aosp?) just hangs

I'm trying to switch from a Pixel 2 to a Huawei P10. The latter is a hand-me-down from my wife and she bought it in China. I'm hoping to upgrade to a Mate 30 Pro at some point and am seeing what problems I have, and what apps I will miss.
The phone already had an old version of chrome on it, but I can't seem to upgrade it. So, I figured I'd try to install alternatives to Google's Play Store, and the first thought was to install Amazon's AppStore (though I imagine it doesn't have chrome). I can download and install it, but when I run it, it just sits there at the splash screen. If I reboot and relaunch, then it gets to a 'continue' button, but when I press it it says 'Oh dear. Something went wrong. Please try again.'
I wonder if anyone else has tried this.
Are there other app stores that are trusted that are likely to have 'western' apps?
Apps that come to mind are: Chrome (or some variant, like Brave, which is on the Amazon AppStore I see), Skype, WhatsApp, WordsWithFriends2 would be nice.
Any recommendations for how to proceed?
[edit] I just noticed that the phone has 'Google - Google services' in the settings. Perhaps it has some 'old' Google services that needs to be upgraded?
See if this thread helps.
