Red Magic 3S gaming performance Update 1-4-2020 - Nubia Red Magic 3 Guides, News, & Discussion

Red Magic 3S gaming performance since no review sites will post a review they just post unboxings and opinions. So i'll do it. I';m debating on adding 99 percentiles in the date. I might go back and update them with that information. Till then the graphs show what you need to know.
Update. Final testing thoughts.
In the world of Antutu the RM3S is pretty nice. However I'm real world performance I found it to be lacking. The ROG2 I have is not only faster in game on average 3fps faster but the deaviation is much smoother. What results in a better Gaming experience. The RM3S is a nice phone but it's pretty clear is has some major issues with the ROM that hurts your gaming experience. These could be fixed in a future update but I don't think they will and you can't rely on the dev community because it's non existent for the RM3S.
Phone is a Red Magic 3S running the latest NA rom. All test are done launched from Gamespace set on performance. Benchmark is taken after 2 hours of continuous play. All games are tested with the highest graphic settings and the highest frame rate cap the game has available.

[BENCHMARKs] POST YOUR BENCHMARKS

It is known that the usability of a ROM is much more than a few numbers and that some benchmarks can be well modded to give higher results. but then too, since there are some benchmarks with pretty consistent outcomes and *can* give an idea of how fast the phone is.
post the ROM and Governor you use.
am starting with mine.
ROM - PRADA ROM and Supressed ROM
Governor - Ondemand, performance

Quadrant score are buggy and untrustable and hence false one.
Code Aurora needs to refine the benchmarking logic

yup.... apparently, we can take advantage of a specific loophole to get much much higher results than the capability of the phone.
:highfive:
I did three tests of that benchmarks for each device of my Galaxy S family.

For all benchmark, I used LiquidSmooth v3.1 Beta ROM
The user with the biggest benchmark must reveal the secret!! :silly:
Here is my Quadrant Score. It isn't fair to compare with the p5210 though. I have a p5220 lte which has 2 GB of RAM instead of the 1GB that all the other members of the family have. That makes a big difference in performance.

An intelligence quotient (IQ) is a total score derived from several standardized tests designed to assess human intelligence. Results are adjusted according to the age group.
There are many tests of intelligence.
The application is based on the Raven test.
The Raven test includes sixty questions. The application has three options - a full test consisting of 60 questions, a moderate test with 30 questions and a quick test, which is shortened to 15 questions.
The test time is limited to 40 minutes for the full test, 20 minutes for the intermediate test and 10 minutes for the short test.
The results of the test - the IQ distribution usually produces a bell graph similar to a normal distribution.
The average IQ is 100.
The highest score is 175 and the lowest is 25.
Only the results of the full test are reliable. Short-term tests were created for people who do not want to spend 40 minutes and yet to be tested. At these points, it is important to take into account that the grade received is inaccurate and unreliable.
Raven’s Progressive Matrices and Mill Hill Vocabulary Scales were developed for use in fundamental research into the genetic and environmental determinants of ‘‘intelligence.’’
The Raven Progressive Matrices (RPM) tests (of which there are several versions) are made up of a series of diagrams or designs with a part missing.
Those taking the tests are expected to select the correct part to complete the designs from a number of options printed beneath.
Most of the tests in this app was conducted with the Standard Progressive Matrices Test.
It is important to note that the SPM was, from the start, known to have both certain strengths and limitations.
Its strengths were that it could be used with respondents of all ages from early childhood to old age and was of such a length that it could reasonably be administered in homes, schools, and workplaces.
Scores are converted into age adjusted IQ according to Raven's Matrices.

I'm 35 took the full test in less than 20 minutes while multitasking. Scored 175. I'm not that smart. I think this has a ceiling of 2 SD over the norm. My IQ is likely in the 130s.
Do you have statistics on the results? They should be renormed.

Try pass this Raven`s IQ Test.

It seems the phone throttles by CPU and not the GPU

After getting this phone, i immediately abuses the phone. Play Asphalt 9 (yes i have the data, obb, and the APK from previous device so i can install and run it just fine), PUBG, Cytus 2, Shadowgun Legends and Honkai Impact 3. Turn the settings which enable fast 60 fps and dropping unnecessary graphics settings.
Here's the Antutu before the phone gets heated

Then after abusing the phone for pretty much more than 1 hour, i've noticed a little bit of fps drop in game. The game is still totally playable. Decided to run antutu again and here's the result.
After that, i went outside where it's ridiculously hot then continue playing those games. Yes, it's still capable of hitting mostly smooth 30+ fps. Some games like Shadowgun Legends and honkai impact experience fluctuating fps between 30-60, mostly below 40-ish while 30 fps games like pubg and asphalt 9 mostly stable. The battery reach 45 C and decided to run antutu. Here's the result of that:
>
As we can see, the GPU does not drop at all. However the CPU sides do take a hit. I wonder why they decided to drop the CPU instead of GPU? I dont mind dropping few graphic settings to achieve 60 fps all the time. Wonder if this can be modified through some sort thermal.conf or whatever controlling the device's temp. Does this mean the CPU generate more heat than GPU? Kinda confused.
Off topic.
But what I have been wondering is with top notch memory (ram) LPDDR4x 1866, latest gen, how come Antutu scores say defeated 40-45% users whereas all other departments is near or over 80%

Unfortunately, im not sure how antutu calculate memory score since i know nothing about it. Antutu might not be the best software to gauge memory performance, i think.

60Hz smoothness UI vs Video

I don't think the OS / UI is running at 60fps when in 60Hz display mode, if you look at the smoothness of the UI vs the smoothness of 60fps video mode they are two completely different beasts, 60fps video mode just looking through the viewfinder without recording is extremely smooth and fluid, yet the UI is horribly stuttery and juddery, I'm certain Samsung has set the UI to something like 24fps to cause the stutter and make 120Hz look amazing
Take for example gaming on a 60Hz PC monitor with vsync enabled and locked at 60fps, it is very smooth, if the framerate matches the refresh rate you get smooth graphics, if they don't match you get the stuttering and so on
Also I remember my S9 being far smoother than one I recently bought from eBay, I'm certain they've updated it to run at a lower framerate, I could almost swear on it, also I have owned iPads that were super smooth @60Hz
What do you think? Has Samsung purposely messed with 60Hz devices / modes to improve the look of their 120Hz displays?
I think the same, I have used 60hz devices before and they never looked that choppy. Maybe they're using like 30/45 hz instead, but the weird thing is, battery life is barely better at "60hz" than at 120
Interesting. I wonder if there's a way to test this..
Almost impossible to find an app that can display the UI FPS, found this one which seems to think the FPS is all over the place on my S9

Found another one that seems to work better and shows the FPS as an overlay so you can see the UI performance, it shows 60fps the majority of the time but opening certain settings sees a big drop in FPS into the 30s at times
