Have to press very hard for long press. - Google Pixel 3a Questions & Answers

On my Pixel 3a I have to press the screen very hard and for a couple of seconds for it to register a long press. This happens if I try to add a widget to the desktop or open the Bluetooth setting etc from the settings menu. Does anyone else have this problem or know what to do. Regular actions with short press, swiping etc are fine. I have a Pixel 2 XL and it does not have this issue.

I don't experience this behavior, nor have I seen others complain about it. So I definitely think it is something wrong with your phone.
Obviously the first thing to do is reboot the phone. If it continues after a reboot, then I think you should do a factory reset of the phone. If it continues after a full factory reset, I would contact Google support to see about getting a replacement or repair.

Two Really Weird Slowness Issues

Has anyone else had this issue? The Messages Option on the TouchFlo 2D screen rarely works. This is not a ROM-exclusive problem for me (it happens on every flash eventually), I just can't understand why most of the time when I click it, the title bar changes from "Start" to "Messages" but nothing else.
I also have an issue with the top-right program showing option having a huge delay on it. Like, twenty seconds. Usually right after I press down a second time to see if it registered, it will register both at once, and cancel my first click out - extremely frustrating.
No one has any suggestions?

This has been a problem for me from day 1. Frequent resetting and thank god for HTC Clean RAM (you can find it here in this forum with a search).
One thing that is a prime suspect is ActiveSync, which has never worked properly for my Fuze. I have found that it remains running on the phone in the background, and the ONLY way I can get rid of it seems to soft reset, and then use the drop down in the top right to kill it beceause even AFTER a soft reset it keeps running.
So not much help, but misery loves company so you should feel better now

Help with HTC Fuze

I am hoping that you guys can help.
My spouse purchase a HTC Fuze a little while back. She used it for
a few months. She was then deployed to Iraq. The phone has been
off for the last 3 months. It was working fine when last used. Recently,
I powered it up and the touch screen is not functioning properly.
You can not use it to dial phone numbers, send texts, and such.
Basically, it does not function correctly really. When it just sitting,
it will roll through options on the screen as if it is being touched
and will not stay on the home setting.
What could the problem be? Can this be fixed? I have tried a soft reset
which hasn't worked. It is disturbing since this is a fairly new phone.

I am under the settings menu but I don't see anything that says system.
Bear in mind that if I have to use the touch screen to get to it then it
would be a no go.
it's a tab in the button if you get there by moving down fron the lowests icon then you can move to system

try using the circular thing (joystick) to get there! i'm running a custom rom, so your settings layout may be different.

Figured out where that is now. I didn't realize that
you were talking about the start button for windows.
I went to that section and it asks you to go through the
align screen process but it does not respond to the taps
of the wand. Is that how we recalibrate?

your best bet is to hope you have "PIM backup" and use it to back up everything, including custom folders. hopefully you can navigate using the hardware keyboard. (custom backup allows you to pack up specific folders and/or files). back it up to your storage card, THEN hard reset it.
also, if you have your phone's contact list synced via active sync, just hard reset and it'll restore your synced contact list.

Yeah, if you already save your contacts in the sim then go ahead and do a hard reset. Just follow the start up procedure on the phone, hope this will solve your problem. Please let us know.

man, nobody knows for sure. it will give you a blank phone, just like the first dday you turned it on (software wise). if the screen has some hardware damage - you will know after the hard-reset. let us know how it went!

Hi! I need help with my tablet.

What's wrong: Touchscreen is not responding.
Current state: Attempting to drain the battery. Doesn't appear to be turned on. Factory reset apparently performed.
What happened: Sorry, this is long. It is as best as I can remember it. It may be somewhat inaccurate.
Yesterday evening, I was on my Windows laptop and logged into my Google account. I *thought* I used the Google Play Store to install Chrome to the tablet. (I had looked at the html5test website and it said Chrome had a higher HTML5 rating than the Dolphin/Jetpack browser I've been using on my tablet.)
But something went terribly wrong.
After sending Chrome to it, I unlocked the tablet and used both Chrome and Dolphin to go to html5test website. They both scored the same or nearly the same. I don't know if any of that is relevant, but I'm including it just in case.
At some point after that, I woke the tablet with the power key and used my unlock pattern on the dots lock screen.
That's when I saw what I believe was mal-ware in action. The settings menus were scrolling and sub-menus being selected, all by themselves. I couldn't say exactly what was changed because whatever program or script that was running the process was going extremely fast.
When I realized it might be trying to send out data over my Wifi network, I turned off the Wifi router in my home.
I repeatedly held down the power key to turn the system off, but doing so only rebooted back to the useless lock screen which was not responding to anything. The normal method of holding the power button for a few seconds to bring up the menu and then tapping the "Power Off" option on that menu refused to power off the system. Nothing on that menu responded to touch.
Entering my pattern on the lock screen did absolutely nothing. I didn't even see any lines traced when I ran my finger over the screen.
At some point, I pulled out the external SD card. I have no idea if whatever hacked the tablet also put a copy of itself on the SD card.
I called a friend who looked up how to restore the tablet to factory settings. I didn't understand the directions exactly, so I ended up on a screen with a Warning!! about installing a Custom OS. (Holding down the Power + Volume Up seems to get me there)
I left it on this screen, and I turned my router back on and using my laptop, contacted Live Chat at Samsung but they didn't understand my problem. They told me to reboot the device and swipe my pattern several times and then after several failed attempts I would have the chance to use my Google credentials to get into it. But the device apparently never registered that my swipe attempts were failing.
So my device was booted up with me locked out, with the WiFi router on for a little while again. I turned off the router as soon as I realized that. That disconnected the chat session, but since Samsung chat wasn't helping me anyway, I didn't bother trying to go back.
I got the device back to the "Warning!!" screen. Then turned the router back on and searched for how to do a factory reset of the device. I found a video on YouTube and followed it.
I pressed the Volume Down and Power buttons simultaneously, followed by letting go of the power button. That brought up a menu which contained several options, including an option to do a factory reset. I used the volume buttons to highlight that and pressed Power key. A second screen came up and I used the volume buttons and power button to select "Yes" to confirm the reset.
It appeared to have done a factory reset, rebooting eventually.
However, after that, when I tried to tap on the touch screen to move forward through the selections, the touch screen was still unresponsive!
So I brought back the "Warning!!" screen and ran the battery down until the screen was blank and it wouldn't start when I held the power key.
Then I charged it for about 20 minutes and rebooted it. I think when it came back it was on the Recovery menu. I think I did a second factory reset, but not 100% sure. It eventually rebooted after a lot longer than usual.
When it came up, it was saying battery was low. I tried to tap the OK button, but nothing happened. Behind the battery window was the first setting screen to set up the device for the first time after a factory reset. (I think selecting USA?)
I brought back the "Warning!!" screen and left it on overnight so that the battery would run down.
That was about 8 hours ago. When I woke up, I used clear tape to keep the power button pressed down, to ensure that the battery will continue to run down.

What do I do next? How do I get the touch screen to start working again? It is not a hardware problem, unless mal-ware can break the hardware. The touchscreen had been working fine until this happened.
Should I take the tablet back to Best Buy where I bought it at least a year (maybe 2 years) ago? I don't know if it's still under warranty.
I have over 20 year of experience as a software developer, but not for Android. I am not very experienced with doing anything to hardware.
Should I try to fix it myself?
I have never rooted any Android device and I'm not sure what that means, either.
I've never re-installed the ______ ? (rom? image? Odin?)
I read on this and/or other forums that there's a way to replace something, but the instructions were beyond my level of understanding. I would need the procedures to be broken down into steps which don't assume too much about what I know.
I understand how to download a file to Windows, given a URL for it. I understand what a zip file is and how to extract it. I understand how to press hardware buttons and plug in cables, and do these steps in the order I'm told.
I don't understand what I'd use to get the downloaded whatever-they-are onto the tablet to replace whatever-the-other-thing-is so that the touchscreen works again.
As far as I know, Odin is a Norse god.
The only firmware updates I've ever done are the ones that the device does on it's own through Samsung's updates.
I'd deeply appreciate getting this device back since I have extremely limited funds and probably won't be able to buy a replacement.

Definitely sounds like malware. You have two choices that I see, either root and custom rom or flash back to stock. Since you are stock you'd just be overwriting your existing install. Read this thread and decide your course of action http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2203309

[How-To] Reboot frozen phone without battery pull

I haven't seen this posted yet so I wanted to share. If this is already posted, or well known, laugh at me then delete this thread please.
While playing a game yesterday my phone locked up and I didn't want to take my case off and do a battery pull. I just came from the GS3, and the only way to reboot a frozen phone was to do a battery pull. As many of you know many phones have a way to "hard reboot" by pressing certain button combinations for a certain length of time. I started trying different button combinations until I found one that worked.
Super simple.
Hold power + volume down for 10 seconds then let go (while screen is on or off, it doesn't matter)
After a few seconds a black screen will appear
That screen will give you three options
1. Normal Boot
2. Factory Reset
3. Safe Mode
Double and triple check that Normal Boot is highlighted!
Use the volume keys to scroll up/down
Use Home button to select
Be very careful not to hold the volume down after the screen goes black while doing the hard reboot button sequence because you will scroll off of Normal Boot. If you accidently scroll to Factory Reset unknowingly and hit the home button you just wiped your phone.
I'm not sure why this key sequence exists, especially if you can use the power and home/vol up/down to achieve the same thing before booting.

Yes, they must have done this for the USER. About time Samsung gave us a way to reboot a froze phone without a battery pull.

I'd rather not take the chance of accidentally factory resetting the phone but to each his or her own! not trying to throw a wrench in your findings. still a neat feature.

The only possible way to reset your phone is to not look to see that Reset your phone is highlighted in bright red while the others are black. And the button combination that causes the hard reboot doesn't include the home button, the home button is what triggers the reboot or reset. You would have to blindly press buttons to reset your phone.
Before someone presses the home button just look 3 inches above the home button to make sure your on Normal Boot. Not that hard considering in the middle of all these buttons you need to press is the screen in which you see if your about to reset or reboot.
Just tried this to reboot my phone when I had a ROM installed to a non-stock slot on Safestrap - worked like a charm.
I'll agree that it's not difficult to avoid doing a factory reset, but that doesn't mean it's an entirely comforting option to have pop up on the screen when you're doing a reboot. I know better than to pull the trigger on a loaded shotgun, but I still keep the safety on and don't point it at anything I'm not willing to blow a huge hole in until I'm ready to actually fire it.
It's not so much that people have an issue with how likely they are to accidentally wipe their phone, it's the degree of consequence such a mistake would bring that makes them - and rationally so - wary.
Not that I'd compare the damage of a negligent shotgun blast to a factory reset phone - I'm just using that as an illustration that regardless of how easily an accident can be avoided, as the cost of the accident increases people like to build additional safety measures/practices to guard against them. So the slightly overzealous warnings here are, I feel, appropriate since if you're going to use this method you should be especially aware of the presence of the "congratulations, your phone is reset to factory defaults" consequence so that you'll double and triple-check to be sure you're not making that selection unless it's the one you really want.

I totally agree. To be honest I reset my phone once while I was figuring out this method. I initially thought that the button combination was Vol down + Home + Power. Well it wasn't and I had held vol down to long and it scrolled over reset phone, and holding the home button in triggered the reset. I only did that while searching for the correct button combination. Most hard reboots that I knew about used 3 buttons not 2.
For the record though, once you press reset phone, it doesn't ask "are you sure" or anything like that, it just resets.

Good to know. I wouldn't have counted on that being the case but it's definitely a helpful caution to let people know there's no safety net.

Phone freezing and rebooting when unlocking.

Anyone else have an issue with unlocking the phone either by the power button or fingerprint scanner? My phone at times just sits there when i try to unlock it and will sometimes restart when i press the power button again when its frozen. Anyone else have that issue?
I have the s8+ from tmobile. I tried factory resseting and even updated to the new update. No luck. Any ideas?

Mine froze and went to black screen after i downloaded and applied new theme. And when i press the home button i can feel the haptic feedback. I tried charging the phobe but there was no light too. I just perform a hard reset with the power + volume down keys.
You jinxed me... I read this thread but didn't bother clicking on it because I wasn't having the issue...
well... just did it. iris unlock, and then I got a reset and power button wasn't turning it on for a minute.

Do you have a theme installed that maybe is causing the delay?
I learned from other posts from xda, when doing a factory reset, do NOT perform a backup and restore for apps. This causes some delays in response from the phone. Is better always to install fresh the apps from the app store and then just log in.
I also recommend enabling the developer options and disable all three animations to off. This will speed the phone response.

No themes and installed the apps fresh on the second time. Has only happened twice since the reset so it improved. Now i just give it time if it freezes on me when unlocking so that it doesnt reboot.
