Request newbie guide - Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Questions & Answers

Hi all,
Can someone explain the difference between all those different Roms, Firmwares, Dev Roms and their versioning out there?
I have been a experienced flashaholic on Oneplus, HTC, Samsung and LG devices. But I'm new to Xiaomi.
My questions:
- is there already an Android 10 ROM for MiNote10 available?
- Dev Roms have version 9 and official stable ones come with 11?
- are the Developer ROMs for more then just our device? In the changelog it seems so... https://xiaomi.eu/community/index.php?posts/518708
- I flash Fastboot ROMs normally via fastboot. Is there also a Firmware Flash Tool?
Regards,
Bastian

Why does the ROM version I'm flashing over matter?

Hi,
I'm referring to, for instance, this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-4i/development/rom-cyanogenmod-12-1-t3212636 where it is advised to upgrade to a certain stock ROM before I flash the new ROM.
My impression was that the new ROM overwrites everything, so why would it matter what my old ROM version was?
Can someone please point me in the right direction before I mess around?
Thanks and kind regards,
Esuhi

Well, in newer versions of MIUI has newer kernel sources and device codes that isn't yet available to us... The only one available are the 5.6.11 versions of MIUI code, flashing a rom over newer MIUI versions is highly not recommended as it could lead to bootloops...
that makes complete sense, thanks!
Official web site doesn't seem to offer 5.6.11 anymore, however.

Should I resort to images found on the forums?
Or should I go with a ROM that doesn't mention this issue?
omerjerk for instance doesn't discuss this for CM12.1 stable ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63031048&postcount=3
(OP had wrong link; here's an example of a ROM w/ this issue http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-4i/development/rom-resurrection-remix5-5-5-t3196222 )
You can find a mirror for miui 5.6.11 fastboot rom here:

[Q] Experience with LOS-legacy ROMs?

Hi everybody,
I recently got an S6 edge in my hands and wanted to flash Lineage OS (as I'm already familiar to it). I found this site:
https://www.los-legacy.de/
Does anybody know if the ROM developpers are known and if the ROMs are as safe and secure as the official builds were? I would really appreciate an experience report as I am still very insecure about those ROMs.

all custom roms here have three big bugs and that's echo on call, bad camera and battery drain so if use daily then stay on stock rom or use stock based like marduck or ultimate nougat 3.1 is great too which is based on port from s8

Hi becho, thanks for your information. I wasn't aware that the echo on call bug is in every custom ROM - thats a good advice for me. I'll go for a stock based ROM as you suggested.

My roms are safe because they are created with a private key and not with a test key from lineageos.
The builds I currently use are all MicroG builds.
For s6 I don't give support anymore as I don't own the device anymore.
For normal Rom you will find here
Galaxy S6 / S6 Edge Unified Development
For unified AOSP type ROMs, kernels and mods., suitable for multiple S6 / S6 Edge versions
forum.xda-developers.com
And yes look at my xda profile there you will find all my builds that I have published.

Unofficial ROMs vs original ROM maker

Hi all,
I see sometimes that there are unofficial ROMs made of official ROMs such as Paranoid Android, that support devices such as our own before the original ROM creator does.
Now I know nothing about making ROMs, I'm guessing there of course is specific firmware and drivers for our phone as one example, unique to us.
Is it a support question, as in the official makers could support another phone (easily?!), but don't, because they don't have the device to confirm it works fine or may carry a brick risk etc?
How hard is it to make an "unofficial" ROM that supports specific devices features/hardware? Is it a case of merging differnt device firmware with another kernel and testing? (I'm sure some will be mad at my naivety)
Sorry for the newb question.

Question Custom ROM updates

Hello, sorry for the newbie question but I am new to the custom ROMs thing.
I'd like to install the OxygenOS Port on my X3 Pro and I am wondering if, after doing so, I'll be able to install updates OTA. Or I will have to install every future update manually.
If not possible, what good custom ROMs provide that, if any ?
Thank you
ArrowOS has working OTA updates, idk about others.
