Question Custom ROM updates - Xiaomi Poco X3 Pro

Hello, sorry for the newbie question but I am new to the custom ROMs thing.
I'd like to install the OxygenOS Port on my X3 Pro and I am wondering if, after doing so, I'll be able to install updates OTA. Or I will have to install every future update manually.
If not possible, what good custom ROMs provide that, if any ?
Thank you

ArrowOS has working OTA updates, idk about others.

[Q] First time installing a custom ROM

Hello,
I have never installed any ROMs on my Android phone, since I lost my old one I got a new one the S2 Plus. My question is can anyone help me install a stable kitkat? I understand that I have to root the device, don't I?
Also anyone mind explaining what all the CMW's and Cyanogenmods are?
Cheers,

Installing Cynogenmod from 5.1

Hi.
Ever since I received the OTA update for 5.1, I've been experiencing big wakelocks (bam_dmux_wakelock) that are affecting the battery life of my device. After days of googling I've been unable to find the culprit, let alone a solution for this problem. So I'm contemplating installing a stable custom ROM . I've always wanted to try Cynogenmod but I was unsure how to do it and lacked the motivation. I have it now, but I have a simple question that hopefully someone can answer here:
Do I need to be in a specific version of stock Android in order to install a given version of CM? For example, do I need to be in 5.0 in order to install CM12 or can I do it from 5.1? None of the guides I've seen mention this requisite, but I want to be sure.
Thanks in advance

You need the 5.0.X bootloader for CM12. For CM12.1 it depends on the particular ROM you are flashing. Once official CM12.1 comes out I am sure you will need the 5.1 bootloader.
For cm12.1 CAF I flashed the 5.1 radio and boot loader then proceeded to flash BaNkS 12.1CAF with his gapps followed by SuperSU 2.46

Question on using a custom ROM

Hi all,
First of all, I'm not a developer, so I'd would like to apologise if my posting here is "intrusive". However I have not been able to find an answer to my question and it seems this is the place where I have the best hope of getting it. My question is, once I have updated the tablet with a custom ROM, will I get regular OS updates from Google like I do with my Nexus tablet and phone, or will I have to rely on custom ROMs if I need an OS updates in the future? Many thanks for your help.
Sincerely,
Howard
You won't get regular updates from Google. Many custom ROMs are updated by the developer and the updated ROM has to be flashed.

Nope, there will not be any regular update from Google.
However if you decide for one of the KatKiss Roms by Timduru, for instance N 7.1.2 Nougatella, you will get an update frequently that contents the actual Google release.
For example the Nougatella version #24 dated 13th July 2017 https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=73012269&postcount=1060 contents the June and July release for Android Nougat. So your CR could always be up to date when you install the newest version of it.

Thanks! That's what I need to know.

(Q) Using stock ota for custom roms

hey guys, been making a rom for one of my phones, and i want to be able to let everyone update over ota, but i dont want to use the ota apps and mods that lineage, carbon etc use, is there a way to change the source in the stock update manager to use custom urls to download my own custom roms?

Flashing firmware questions

Hey everyone, apologies if this has been asked before.
I recently flashed the Pixel Experience custom rom and for the most part I'm loving it.
One of the reasons I chose this rom over something like Lineage OS is that Lineage requires the flashing of firmware before flashing the custom rom. PE didn't require this so I went with that.
My question is what firmware do I need exactly? If I do decide to try out other roms in future where do I get this file? I looked online and found the full MIUI rom which is about 2.5 gb and I also found just the updates which is about 80mb. There's obviously a huge size difference here and I want to avoid issues in future
Search for Xiaomi Firmware Updater here on XDA. A member wrote a script which creates links for the latest firmwares (approx. 70 MB).
Thank you, I think I got confused. I wasn't sure whether I need the firmware or the full MIUI, glad it's the smaller file.
