Hi guys,
I’d like to buy the Moto G to replace my Galaxy S I9000. I know pretty well the phone’s specs but before buying it I need to satisfy a doubt about. Since I had my first Android phone (HTC G1) I’ve changed a ROM a week , so it’s very important for me to have a phone that could have a long-term support from this community. I know that Nexus 5 (or the unavailable “4” ) could be the right choice for this purpose but I need to save some money and Moto G is cheaper than these ones.
So my question is if, in your opinion, Moto G will receive some Android future versions (Why not Android 5? ) and if It will be unofficially (Cyanogen, Aokp, Paranoid,etc..) or officially supported (since Lenovo bought Motorola, so without official Google support) . I know it’s an hard question but I’m scared by Lenovo acquirement and I won’t have a paperweight-phone in one year.
Does developers have all the tools (kernel source and all the things they need) to make future updates works on this device right now? I’d like to have a your prevision(also technical) about it .Thank you in advance for your answers and sorry for my English but I’m Italian.
If your'e worried about something so trivial, just stick with the S, no worries.

If you ask me, 4.4.2 will be the last official major update for this phone. Hope I'm not right but time will tell. There are already some custom ROMs around and I'm sure that there will be more in the future...

a success of an android device future development lies in number of users. the more number of user, the greater chance it will have excellent support from community of xda.
like ur i9100 (big number of user),s2 or even galaxy ace can have 4.4.2 because of the large community.
moto g launch in so many countries(usa, china, india, asia, europe),it could be one of biggest number of android user ,added with open-source of qualcomm and GPE of moto g,it will definitely can past 4.4.2 kitkat.

I like to "play" too but that's the point, it doesn't get official 4.5 and we get a custom 4.5, and we "play" with it. It's the same with the S yes?
1) The bootloader unlock policy is MUCH better with the GPe variant. Get it if you can.
2) This is a fairly vanilla Qualcomm-based device, which is great for AOSP-derived firmwares thanks to Qualcomm's reference source at CodeAurora (CAF). Biggest issue so far has been that it's one of the first MSM8226-based devices out there, so there has been a bit of a learning curve so far for everyone working on the device.

Hi guy's...as almost people alerady knows the LG G4 and a few days ago the G3 already have the Marshmallow 6.0 update, i already have it on my G3 and so far i love it...the biggest difference between 5.0/5.1 to 6.0 from LG is the UI, we get new UI and the notification icons on top of screen are smaller and more beautiful as some a game optimizer setting, camera now have slow motion video recording like G Flex2 and the clock on lockscreen now only hours are show and nothing of circle around the digital hours and of course the new 6.0 functions and battery now last for more 4/5 hours!
But, i own the G Flex2 too, and for logic G4 is first to receive it, and G Flex2 is second since they are launched later than G3 but i dont understand why LG launch the MM for G3 first!
Anyone know when we gonna get the 6.0 Marshmallow update for G Flex2?
Thanks

Interesting. If the tool is available we should have it, so it probably doesn't exist and they just mixed up G Flex 2 with G4

i dont know if they are official or not but is from the later december last year so...i dont belive since may to december this could be a rumor, if they are they dont last for so long time...

yea, I'm already waiting for the M update and I was hoping we will get it before the G3, however...

So confused, some say yes we get MM others no. Some say bootloader may be unlockable eventually and others say it's never gonna happen. Just got the Flex 2 and selling G3 and I can live with whatever happens but it's crazy trying to figure out anything. Currently I am on ZV9 and unrooted deciding whether or not to root the phone. Like I see, LG is not a user and dev friendly company. If they wouldn't give us a update, it would be polite to unlock the bootloader. About 6.0 update I think that snapdragon 810 is a party pooper, it's more time/money consuming to develop cos G4 and V10 and maybe more models use the same 808 chip. But let me be wrong and LG will honor our devices, or this will be my first and a last LG phone I'll own

Well according to one of the slovak android sites,it was already confirmed that G Flex 2 will get Android 6.0,however the time when exactly is not sure. But i would keep eye on polish market, they get updates always much sooner than rest of the world.
Source of list: https://www.mojandroid.sk/zoznam-zariadenia-android-6-0-marshmallow/
Re. Bootloader unlock it is very unlikely having this sorted. But if any of you know a capable dev, then let's get funds together. I am ok to give 20 to 50 USD. If a 100 people can do the same someone might get interested.

sorry for the nooby question, but everytime i check xperia z5's Android development page, there's nothing new. no custom roms, few custom recovery, and few kernel. is it because Z5 is hard to make a custom rom? or because of no developer uses xperia z5? sorry for my bad english.
It's probably becuase since the Xperia Z5 is still a new phone, it isn't needed to make a custom ROMS or there is no use for it (Since the Z5 is still up-to-date) + it takes a long to make Custom ROMS. Idk but I'm just guessing.
Well you can follow the cyanogenmod development here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z5/general/dev-cyanogenmod-sony-xperia-z5-t3302622
The main developer said that he'll be getting a Z5 compact soon, which will help with development.

Enviado desde mi E6653 mediante Tapatalk
The z3+ got 'no' development at all LOL. But still if u go for a rooted stock rom, plenty of customization u can made of.
It could be also that MM is behind the corner and until it's released, developing is a bit harder. Sure Lollipop attempts have been made and the ones I've tried, look to be working fine.
What I'm hoping to see is a Cyanogenmod ROM for this phone. After using CM for the past 5 years with my phones, it's hard to get used to the stock features and the lack of CM features altogether. Xposed helps a bit, but I still don't like the Sony apps and I often tend to disable them. Of course the problem becomes that it may cause some problems with the phone software stability.
I think it also comes down to phone price. I mean how can you encourage devs to pay upwards from 500 dollars/euros for a phone that they don't get to enjoy much and instead do free development on them for others. Whereas there are cheaper 300 dollar/euro phones that have far more people to try them and therefore giving a better possibility to make a name for yourself. But then again, this is what keeps the XDA community alive. You have people turning into developers all the time when they see a need for something they want, see no one doing it for them and decide to pick it up themselves
at least i wanna see that Z5 have custom roms based on CM

I feel like we may get caught in the middle with our M5's. I can't imagine under current conditions we will get Q. I'm starting to wonder if we will officially get 9.0.

I got this device two weeks ago. With the impossible-to-unlock bootloader and this, tomorrow I'm returning it. It's a pity we don't really have options on tablets in the android world, right now. I definitely don't want anything related to samsung, and I sure as hell don't have enough money for a decent iPad. I'm puzzled at what to do, really.

It looks like EXISTING kit (including the M5) WILL get updates but not necessarily upgrades to "Q" but IS still able to be to "P"

Unhappy with it, write to your senator and congress critter and badger them to request exemptions for end user, end point devices such as phones, smart watches and tablets, separate from the infrastructure piece (5G) that this posturing is all about.

good luck in finding some viable alternatives in the "tablet with android" world, of this quality, in this price range. consider that, in Italy, the "best buy" alternatives feature the Galaxy Tab S2. A 2016 tablet with Android 6. Meh.

There are no security concerns with Huawei devices. Trump declared a state of emergency and named Huawei a grave threat to national security by presidential order so he could put them on a security blacklist and force Google to stop dealing with them--but Trump says he will reverse the restrictions if China makes trade concessions.
You need to stop getting your news from Fox, Briebert or whatever right-wing nonsense you are using.

It's just a fact that some devices are well developed, others aren't.
That depends on the devices the developer own by themselves, that's why every Pixel or One Plus has a lot of development.
I was about to buy a G8+ (I own a Moto G 2014 and a Moto G5+ which are in active development until today) but I saw that nothing was happening here so as I got the chance I bought a Xiaomi mi 9T. It's cheaper than the Pixels and a lot of devs own it.
It's one thing to buy the device of your choice and another thing to have a lot of ROMs, kernels and tweaks to choose from.
You have to make your decision.
Sent from my Mi 9T using XDA Labs
I have seen some AOSP been marked as tested on G8 Plus.. I tried to find out how to install a GSI, but no success yet.. As i understand, the G8 + should be Treble compatible. Have tried to install some AOSP images but it only goes into boot loop..
have you been successful in installing AOSP?
In regard to that matter I don't know if I should buy G8+ or G7+
I hope G8+ will get some good custom firmwares...
I might also consider the purchase of a Realme 5pro for the same price but I don't know how in compares in terms of sturdyness to the moto G.

I never had any ads on my homescreen/UI and about ads in general: Even if you don't root your device to get rid of this stuff: It's easy to freeze/deactivate apps that have privacy issues or ads in them.
I used ADB to get rid of the Xiaomi browser (one of the most privacy problematic apps) and several other ones. I'm not rooted atm (will be in the future) but even without root privileges you can use DNS66, Adaway 5 beta or blokada and I see no ads at all.
I was aware of the problems a Xiaomi device could cause but it's more than easy to find ways to solve these problems and I'm happy with the decision to buy the 9T.
I will root it in June when miui 12 comes out and I think that will make things even easier.
Also there are custom ROMs or EU.builds etc.
That's all better than no development. I'm a big fan of the pure Motorola software but without any development the G8 is not the right thing for me.
I don't regret buying that Xiaomi device.
