It happened to me that the TC fell on the sidewalk face down, so I had to find and replace the screen. Couldn't find any pictorial guide so I decided to share my experience for the benefit of others with the same problem.
Cause: Cell phone shocked, fell down, hit
Symptoms: touch screen works OK, but display has cracks, blackened areas, which are spreading as time goes by.
Screen type : TC combines the matrix sensor (touch) and the LCD in 2 layers, the front touch-glass and shell, and the LCD itself underneath it.
Source of display: I bought via eBay on this source: Asia Bol
http://stores.ebay.com/newasiabol
Cost $70 inc. shipping and arrived within a week and a half. Rumors insists the at below $100 a screen is either factory dropout or refurbished.
Tools needed: Torx screwdriver T5-50, the size can be viewed after removing battery door, at lower corner.
A flat sharp tool ("fish knife") to help open the plastic case, but not too sharp to scratch the phone.
Here are the pictures and some notes:
1. Remove battery case and battery, SIM
2. Remove 2 screws from lower side
3. Prick open the shell with the flat tool
4. Prick open the top shell with the flat tool
5. CAREFUL as there are 2 tiny ribbons from the touch screen/hardware buttons into the PCB, one is held in place with sticky band (keys), the other (digitizer) is locked in-place with a lever, tiny one! - pull them out, not before noticing where they went into and lifting the lever on the smaller one.
6. Take apart the FRONT shell with the flat tool slowly as not to tear ribbons
7. Pull the LCD ribbon out
8. Carefully pull the old screen as it is held in place with sticky gum
9. Clean interior glass of phone if needed, pull out new screen protective sheet and put in place.
10. Connect new screen ribbon, 2 keyboard/jog tiny ribbons
11. Press shells in place
12. Pray you didn't forget anything and load SIM and battery
13. Good luck
more pictures...
following...(please note that where it's marked on the above picture as "jog wheel" - it is not. it's the glass digitizer ribbon.
Excelent work....!!!
Awesome man
Great contribution! You give me hope for the next generation of xda'ers!
Thank you!
Excellent work! Must be added to Polaris wiki page (if it hasn't yet!)
my lcd screen crashed 1 month ago. replaced a new screen for 450 CNY included the handwork fee.
great job.... thanks for sharing
My TC has got a big scratch on the screen (cheers to Jack, my cat who is responsible for that )...
I just ordered a new LCD screen, and by "mistake" i only ordered the digitizer...
Now after reading this post, it seems that I accidentaly did the right thing, since is only the front panel which is scratched and not the LCD itself... Am I correct?
Anyway do i have to disassemble the whole phone to get the front panel out???
As you see on the completly dismanteled TC picture above (left on the last picts row), there are:
Glass top, actually the outer top shell, and the LCD & Digitizer are one piece (the 'glassy' square with flat orange attachement)
If the scratch in on the shell glass, that's not the LCD screen, it is the so called "LCD LENS GLASS" or "faceplate".
If the TC fell and you see cracks and smears on the screen instead of what should be displayed, that's the LCD.
Please make sure where your scratches are.

Thanks for the Info, you ve been very helpful .... Well my scratch is on the outside and I couldnt find any outside faceplate for my TC... Instead I ordered the digitizer (see picture attached) which for me it seemed as the right option (I did that before reading your post )... Now I will just have to wait and see when it comes, if i did the right thing........ I will let you know
well, I was (and still) confused as I was looking for some info about the screen assembly, and the only one I've found was on this lab site (not particular to TC model though).
Please read the paragraph in RED starting with "ATTENTION..." later on that page (the link above includes Google's translation from russian).
More confusing is that the part you mention here IS available as is...
puzzle solved.
I was curious so I dismantled the TC again, than I notice the the glass shell IS carrying a tiny ribbon, which means IT IS the digitizer (I though it's coming from the hardware keys).
So I assume you ordered the right part.

cheers... I feel ever so glad!!! ... but you would recon I would have to go through all the procedure to get it out and install the new one?
Actually it's a very delicate work with a steady hand and non scratching behaviour.
points to notice:
- The side silver bars are detached by sliding as well as pulling gently, as there are L shaped pins coming out of them into a niche in the body.
- The glass digitizer ribbon is run from one side of the main board into the other, so unlocking it (small lever and pull out) is needed as well as having the upper and rear shell apart as much as allowed, Or having the LCD wide ribbon out (& digitizer small one) and let the 2 shells free for easy access.
Saying that, it means that the procedure is almost identical as for replacing the LCD as the glass/digitizer is attached to front glass with sticky rubber and you need to get in there to release the tiny ribbon.
In your case I assume you also have to pull the bottom hardware keys' plate (assembly), in order to release it from the old shell/glass.
If that is the case, be carefull as the assembly is pinched into place by fragile plastic bumps that keep it in tight place in order to make a good push action (click). You'll have to widen the shell sides a bit and help it out.
! bent ribbon, and some mulfunction may occure.
Awesome Guide, Reuvenm you're the MAN!
I'd been searching all over for this guide so as to attempt to remove both the front and back camera. My Company just implemented this silly policy that doesn't allow phone w camera
Reuvenm, by any chance that you've had a good look at both the front and back camera and if it's a type which can be un-plug easily? Pls do not bother to disassemble the TC again, really. Just wanna check cos you may have shot some other pics of your disassembled gem that may show the front and back cameras
Anyway, great job and thanks a bunch in advance
you can disable the camera by software & registry, but I guess they want it to be out of sight..
as you see on the left pict on the first row of images, the front camera is a cubic aparatuse with 3-wings circle in the middle, just underneath the ext GPS antena hole:
this can be pulled out but I think it's ribbon (connection flat wires) is going via a cooling metal plate element and then to a PCB connector. Not sure about that as it's very delicate in there.
as for the back camera, I can't recall
here is a close up:
Hi Reuvenm, thanks for the really quick reply. Yeah i wanna get them removed altogether. So I took a leap of faith and viola! I had gotten the Back camera (3M pixel cam) out!
Followed the steps as you had illustrated and yes the 3M pixel camera was attached using some kind of L-shape flat metallic ribbon cable that ends up w a PCB connector. Wasn't difficult to remove though. I'll try to disassemble the Front camera tomorrow when i've got the time cos got to catch up on some work now.
A really big THANK YOU to Reuvenm for posting this amazing guide and i'll get some shots of the Front Cam removal and post them back here again.
Outstanding work man
You really got the guts gotta say
Elegantly done and explained!! I copied this guide with pics for future reference
This opens the door for a whole new era I guess, right guys!?
glass deformation
Hello gusy
Can you give me a suggestion ?
One day i noticed this "stain" on my screen when the device is off.
At first i thought it was liquid traped insinde the lcd (as seen on other phones) but it turned out not to be.
This stain is visible only in bright neon light (at my workplace), and it moves or dissapears almost completly when i press the screen.
Outside, or in normal light the sceen has no problem.
I think that the top glass part of the screen is to big and it bends a little causing this.
Can i remove the top layer of glass, cutt let's say a half of milimiter from the side, and stick it back on ? or is there someting holding it under ?
I noticed that in a corner i could peal it off, but i don;t want to take any chances to breack something.
thanks in advance
Hello,
I recently replaced the front frame of my Lumia 820 due to dropping it. While the touch screen now works, I'm having issues with the proximity sensor in regards to calls, where it turns the screen black and doesn't come back on when taking my face away from the screen.
I took it all apart again, used compressed air to blow any dust away and made sure nothing was blocking the sensor.
Is there
a. any way to disable the proximity sensor?
b. does it anything to do with the Amber update? (works fine prior to this)
c. is there a way to go back to an older version of the firmware?
Thanks in advance!
Hi,
I have same problem. Anyone find solution to that? Probably proximity sensor need to be calibrated, but I didnt find any site with software and information how to do it.
Brg,

I'm having the same problem. I replaced the touch screen and the frame.
Alon.
Same issue
I am experiencing the same fault as what you guys are describing. I've even ordered from other sources to see if it was a faulty batch of screens, but still blank in call. Is there something in the fitting process that is going wrong? Any update or Fix would be great!

My friend had the exact same issue after replacing the screen. He finally took it to his local Nokia Care centre, they noticed straight away that the replacement screen wasn't a genuine Nokia part, fitted a Nokia one & he's never had a problem since.
simply make a call and try pressing the left side of the earpiece

Hey man, I'm having problems with the same issue but can't seem to work out what you mean with gluing the business card in between the sensor gap? Also in my case I have to push quite hard on both sides before the proximity sensor works, even after tightening it all the way.
Hey. Disassemble your phone. On digitiser a designated hole for proximity sensor. I have cleaned that tint place and made it clear. Now look on proximity sensor. Its rectangular shape and has 2 lenses on it. In between , a very tiny space. In my case i took business card, as it thick, then i have cut very small piece of business card and glued it in that place. Give me you email, so i send you a picture

most of china digitizers work ok but many of them have got extra not cutted plastic in upper left corner (see picture)
this extra plastic makes bigger space between digitizer and frame that's why proximity sensor "think" it's covered.
There is no hope to make it work without cutting such plastic. Unfortunately this cut must be exactly "in line" with line from digitizer operation lines so it's almost impossible to make. China manufacture must make new type of digitizer with thinner digitizer lines and always cut such extra plastic. Then digitizer will be exactly flat on frame and proximity sensor will be close to his hole in digitizer and will work 100%.
Proximity sensor solution: request for clarification...

Hi,
How did you remove the color coating to the lens? And do you think that made a difference? Or was it the extra pressure the tiny strip of card put on the sensor?
Thanks,

Hey guys, I'm having same problem ... can you send the picture how to solve this issue ... [email protected]

Hi I have bought an LG G2 D802 from eBay for practically nothing. The only thing that was wrong with it is that the screen had been replaced by what I presume is a cheap Chinese copy and after the replacement the screen would seem to turn off randomly (particularly during calls) and could not easily be turned back on again. Otherwise the phone works fine. The only thing that doesn't work is the proximity sensor. However I presume that this is a result of the new screen. Having read around on several forums, it seems that the proximity sensor is extremely sensitive to things like screen protectors, which can obstruct, or limit or prevent the functionality of the proximity sensor entirely. I therefore concluded that the likely issue was because the proximity sensor is likely to only respond to light over a given number of polarities (dark infra-red, placed against face, something similar I presume, in daylight or bright light, nearer the blue end of the spectrum etc). This would simplify how the proximity sensor should work under a number of given scenarios.
In the end the workaround was simple. I simply opened the phone and disconnected the proximity sensor and placed a small piece of insulating tape over the sensors connectors so it couldn't inadvertently reconnected when I closed the phone. The phone is now 100% fully functional, minus the proximity sensor of course. It now just functions like any other normal smartphone. I am naturally more than pleased with this outcome, given what I paid for the phone, which itself is in otherwise mint condition.
However the question I have is that the reason the proximity sensor was included was to prevent accidental button presses when making or receiving a call, when for example the phone is pressed against one's face. However it strikes me that exactly the same functionality should be possible in software? What I am looking for then is an app that will either lock the screen (or turn it off) to prevent accidental button presses in this way while a call is in progress and that will disable itself as soon as a call is ended. I of course need to be able to easily disable it, either from the lock screen, or via the power button, so that for example when I dial an automated dialling service and they want me to press buttons to navigate their menu I can still do this.
There seems to be a few apps around that can do this, but my question is, which is the best? Which is likely to cause the fewest problems for what I want?
I have ordered a new proximity sensor from China in case the proximity sensor itself might be at fault, but really having read that this can cause several problems and is rather more 'gimmicky' than practical, I think a software solution would probably be better anyway.
it should be replace with same hardware sir to be able for your device able to control it.
So has anyone found a fix for this problem aside from replacing the sensor itself? Maybe a build.prop or by using terminal. My phone screen wont stay on because it detects its in my pocket all the time posted screens below of useful info.

If you don't have the patience to read my story, skip to the solution at the end
Guys (and girls)!, I have found the solution, it took me like 6 hours to figure this out.
I have LS980 (LG G2 ofcourse).
I replaced the screen, and I actually refurbished the screen with LOCA glue myself, it is perfect, but apparently there's an issue with the proximity sensor, due to the specific shade they use to cover the inside of the glass at the location of the proximity sensor.
After replacing the screen, the Knock ON was not working, but KNOCK OFF was working fine.
In the Sensor Box i saw that i was getting half of the light that i was supposed to (on another LS980 i was getting about 800, while on the "faulty" one i was getting 400 light.)
And also the proximity sensor was dead, it showed 0.0 and a fallen plant.
I tried putting some tape, and colored it with a permanent market between the proximity sensor and the glass, and the KNOCK ON began to work, but during calls, the screen would not shut off.
I figured, there must be some SYNC between the light the screen is getting, and the proximity sensor, so i scraped off the paint that was on the glass where the proximity sensor is, so there will be much light coming in, and IT WORKED!!
SOLUTION:
Scrape off the dark paint on the glass (inside) at the location of the proximity sensor. do it gently.
clean it with alcohol so there will be no remains of paint.
don't be shy to press the Thanks button if this worked
Thank you work great

My Fix
I apologize for bad english. If anyone knows SERBIAN and want to translate beter contact me.
Before you start to scrach the touch, try this.
On LG D-802 , the ruber thing on the proximity sensor was cousing me promblems. CUT the ruber only the part atached on the light sensor and proximity and turn it around. The big hole that was once on the light sensor(Ruber) comes on the proximity...
And that fixed my proximity. Now the light sensor is covered with the small hole on the ruber and the small amount of light is passing try that hole, try spreading it with heated something.
If questions PM me.
I think I am having the same problems with a G2. The digitizer on my girlfriend's phone broke so I replaced it with a digitizer/screen combo. No we can only turn the screen on (power button or knock) when there is a lot of light in the room. If it is dark, the screen will turn on for a second and then turn off. The screen doesn't go dark during a call either.
This problem didn't start until I installed the new screen. I scraped half the paint off but it didn't seem to make a different. I also don't have the screen completely sealed as I didn't have tape pre-cut for the shape of the phone. I wouldn't think that makes a difference but who knows.
I just replaced my S7's camera module and lens, which involved heating the edges, prying open the case, removing the three modules and motherboard, and replacing the camera itself.
After re-assembly the new camera works, but every once in awhile the phone behaves as if there are a flurry of touches in the lower area of the screen; the apps menu pops up repeatedly, sometimes recent apps are selected, etc, all without touching the screen at all. After maybe 10 seconds of this (during which I've started hitting the power button to immediately lock the phone and prevent accidental calls or such), it calms down and the touch screen seems to work perfectly fine for awhile, until it happens again.
Any ideas what might cause this kind of malfunction? Could it be as simple as a loose connector when I re-installed the motherboard? Or, I read that the screen is sensitive to heat, does this sound like a symptom of heat damage to the touch screen from when I heated the edges to open the case?
Is there anything I can do to further diagnose and fix this issue?
Thanks!

Glue on the inside of the screen when you took it apart. Glue has some moisture in it, moisture conducts voltage, the screen works by voltage resistance when you touch it with a human finger.

Hm, thanks for the tip! That would make sense, although I only removed the back cover and not the front; you think some of that adhesive could still have worked its way down onto the inside of the screen, which was below the rest of the phone assembly while working on it upside-down?
Would you suggest then removing the screen this time and checking for stray glue on the inside? Or opening the back again? When I re-assembled I did just re-use the existing adhesive with a bit more heat to soften it before pressing the back cover back on; maybe it would be better to remove all of that and use a new adhesive sticker on the back?
edit: I should mention also that after further observation, I'm pretty sure the primary touchscreen area is not affected, the issue is only on the menu soft key area left of the physical home button. I thought there were phantom screen touches that were selecting recent apps from the list, but I think now it's actually phantom sideways-swipes on the menu soft key which is apparently a swap-to-last-app gesture that I never knew about.

Phones are now quite difficult to repair yourself, so many steps and needing to mess about with the adhesive.
I would open it back up make sure no stray adhesive anywhere and carefully put it back together. Normally there's no need to get more adhesive as you only need a very small amount of the original adhesive to stick it back together. Just take your time and heat it up properly.
When I make or receive a call the screen on my 9A immediately blanks and I can do nothing until the call ends.
How can I prevent this from happening?
don't put it to your head.
clean proximity sensor or remove glass/foil protection. My 9a often yells that my sensor is blocked, but I have it on the table or car seat, so no way.
there are codes to test every single part of phone (maintenance or service menu)

I don't put it to my head - I don't get the chance.
As soon as a call comes in the screen goes blank.
I took off the screen protector and cleaned the glass - no improvement.
In the Proximity test menu it should show a value of 5 and go to 0 when it is covered - but it never shows 5, and is stuck on 0.
I wondered if cleaning the proximity sensor may help, so I followed this video to do that -
At 2:05 in the video, he takes out a small black piece and then cleans the back of the glass in the opening.
I don't have that piece, does anyone know what it is?
try to calibrate it INSTRUCTIONS
if that doesn't help you can try to use flat screwdriver and scratch glass where Proximity sensor is placed (the glass).
I have encountered it in some iPhones aftermarket LCDs (the dark layer was too thick)

Can't seem to find anywhere to calibrate - can't turn it off either (unlike in previous versions)

I tried scratching the glass - no luck.
I wonder if the problem is the piece shown in the above video - which is not on my phone .
if you still have it i. parts, just boot to android, go to service menu and test sensor on the table (don't put it beside LCDs glass).
if it still doesn't work, it would be a good idea to replace it (xiaomi parts are cheap).
Or go to youtube and search for xiaomi proximity calibration

When I go into the menus to test the proximity sensor (*#*#6484#*#* on the phone keypad) it should have a value of 5 until you cover the sensor at which point it should changs to 0. Mine shows 0 constantly - implying the sensor is covered.
Where can I get the parts - I am in the UK.
for me it gets value 1 when nothing is close and 0 when I approach sensor.
just go to aliexpress, amazon, ebay, etc. there are tons of shops qith parts
