Unlock help on misc device - Security Discussion

I have a device that's evidently called an Edge Mini tablet purchased from the prison system while I was incarcerated. Known issues are battery explosions as mine did. All I have is a circuit board in which Device Manager on pc recognizes something briefly and disappears.
I spent nearly $2k on music and would like to find help on retrieving it somehow.
All I know is that it has a custom Android build and and i cannot view the device on its screen, however thr computer reads it.
Much help needed!

I have never heard of the device that you are using, after doing a quick google search it seems that you should probably contact a business called the keefe group. They are the distributors and provide support for that proprietary device.
https://www.keefegroup.com/home/contact-us-105
Here is the User manual: https://fccid.io/2AHUC-EDGEMINI-AA/User-Manual/User-manual-3073167
If all you have is the circuit board , then most likely your chances are recovering encrypted data are not good at all.
Ideally, you would need to boot into the system and enter developer options, turn on USB debugging, allow an external device MTC connection etc., which allows you to connect to your PC.
On the other hand, its an older Operating system, with less secure software. Perhaps, for a technicians easy access the steps I listed above have already been setup. If so, try downloading the USB driver for that device, and then reboot your PC. If the issue is a driver issue, you should now have access to the internal storage and will be able to copy over your files, by connecting the board to your desktop, using the usb power cable. If the PC reads the device, you should be able to see the internal storage by going to this PC, and it would be under device and drives.
Are you sure that your files are not backed up to a server that you can remotely access? Worst case, I would look into that option.
Good luck.

LG Incite CT810 - Problem with USB

So I got my shiny new LG Incite at Best Buy yesterday. I knew I was getting it a while ago, so I downloaded a bunch of games and apps to load it up with as soon as possible. I get home from the store, play around with it and let it charge for a while, then I try to connect it to my computer (After installing ActiveSync 4.5 from the included disk, as well as both of the USB drivers on the disk). Windows comes up with that "found new hardware" stuff and asks where to look for the driver to install. I tell it to look on the CD, as well as the directories where the USB drivers from the disk were installed. It looks like it's working at first, but then I get this error:
(Error: "The data is invalid.")
Then it gives me the message balloon about how there was an error during installation and my new hardware may not work properly, etc. Now when I go to Device Manager, a number of things showed up with that little yellow exclamation point that I'm pretty sure were not there before, but I could be wrong:
- IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers: VIA OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller
- Network Adapters: Unknown device, WAN miniport (L2TP), WAN miniport (Network Monitor), and Windows Mobile-based Device
- Ports (COM & LPT): Communications Port (COM1)
So I tried reinstalling the drivers from a link I found in a thread on these boards (after clicking uninstall for "Windows Mobile-based Device" and having it tell me that the device is necessary to boot up the computer), but the same thing keeps happening. I also tried having ActiveSync scan for devices, but it never finds anything (Just says that USB is "available").
Please help, I really want to start putting pictures, music, and all that good stuff on my brand new phone
(btw, I'm pretty sure the problem is with the software/drivers on the computer, because when I plug in the USB cable the phone starts to charge. Other than that, nothing happens on the phone.)
If at all possible, I would try using the phone with another computer. For quite some time I was only able to sync data with my laptop and not my desktop, so I knew it was a software issue and not the phone itself.
would say it's down to
dead activesync install and no uninstalling it is not enough one have
to remove all traces of it in registry too
and it could also be an issue with usb drviers for the motherboard

Well, I'm not going to have another computer until September at least, so I really want to get it working on this computer, but I guess I could test it out on a friend's pc to see if my computer is the problem.

Know of any links or tutorials that would tell me all of the registry entries I'd have to remove?
(Sorry for the double post, but no one was replying...)
So I found my bluetooth adapter for my PC, and after I installed the proper software I could connect to my phone no problem. After that, I just used the bluetooth adapter's software to transfer files to my phone via FTP. (ActiveSync still just sat there, even when I set my phone to sync with bluetooth instead of USB, and I allowed wireless connections in ActiveSync)
So I'm glad I can finally transfer files, but I still want to get USB working. No one has any ideas at all?
(Triple post... sorry)
Ok, something happened to the bluetooth drivers and software now. I turned my computer off for the night after using bluetooth to transfer files to my phone, but when I turned on my pc today and clicked the shortcut to start the bluetooth software, I got a message saying that the program the shortcut was linking to no longer existed. Sure enough, the folder was gone from my Program Files directory. Now, every time I try to reinstall it, I get an error 183 that installation was interrupted.
So now I'm back to having no means of transferring files to my phone.
Please, any suggestions at all will be helpful to me at this point. I'm at my wits end!
Any progress on this?
I have a similar problem. I think usb sync worked on my laptop at one point, but hasn't for at least a week.
I was able to fix the problem at least temporarily by disconnecting the device, deleting it from ActiveSync and reconnecting. ActiveSync happily added it back and resynced everything. Now I can install the new Xcite ROM.
Still nothing...
Now my computer doesn't do anything at all when I plug my phone in, not even make a noise or ask about drivers. My phone, however, still recognizes that it's plugged in.
At least I got bluetooth working again, but still, USB would be nice.
It's hard to believe that out of every member on this forum, no one has even the slightest idea of where to start...
Menu - settings - connections - USB to PC.
Uncheck Enable advanced ...
OK TO ALL AND READY

[Q] Controlling Power Point or Keynote with smartphone.

Hope this is the right place for this.
I know there are tons of apps out there that does this but here is my situation.
I am in a public speaking class and it would be really nice and easy for me and other students if we could control our slides from our phones or tablets.
My question is what would be the best way to do this on a school computer. I can install apps no problem, but they get erased after the computer gets restarted due to a deep freeze program of some sort. So simply installing the server application before hand won't do.
Is there some sort of solution that has maybe a portable executable that one can run on their flash drive just for the time that they need to connect their device to the computer?
Both of the devices will be on the same network (one wired and one wireless).

Access data from Samsung Tocco Lite S5230 via USB Cable

I have a Samsung Tocco Lite S5230, otherwise known as Samsung Star, Samsung Player One, Samsung S5233 or Samsung Avila in different countries. I have not modified the firmware. I bought the phone originally with an Orange UK contract but it was not locked as it was from a 3rd party phone shop.
The touchscreen is not responding so I am looking for a way to get my data off it via the USB cable. Unfortunately, in the settings for the phone, it is set to prompt on USB connection to determine which USB mode to use (the options are Media Player, PC Suite, Mass Storage).
So I am wondering what options I have to try to access the data without relying on the touchscreen. If I could change that setting to default PC Suite mode I'd probably be fine as pretty much everything (except for text messages longer than 160 characters) can be access via the PC Suite software. But since the touchscreen isn't responding I can't change this setting.
1. From looking around I am lead to believe that this phone runs the Bada platform?
2. I have a computer which dual boots Ubuntu and Windows.
2a. In Ubuntu, if I connect the USB cable before entering the Sim card pin, the operating system prompts me automatically to enter the pin which allows me to start up the phone; I'm not sure if this is helpful but it seems like a step in the right direction.
2b. In Windows, I haven't found any way to use the computer keyboard to enter the sim card pin, and if I start PC Suite, the computer prompts me to select the PC Suite option on the phone's screen [which I can't do].
I had seen clues to suggest that this phone runs on the Bada Platform? But I have just found this post which seems to claim that a related model does not run Bada?
Perhaps someone would be kind enough to point me in the right direction to help me find some software that can be used to access the phone via the USB cable without relying on the touchscreen?
Thanks in advance for any pointers
PS - as a bonus though probably more for interest than for any practical purpose, is there a way to enter the SIM card PIN from Windows like I can on Ubuntu?
Hello,
I have the problem also,
for a solution I would be happy

Samsung A30 broken screen transfer files USB debugging disabled

My Samsung A30 has a broken screen, I’m attempting to transfer all my files unfortunately the phone does not have the file transfer mode enabled so when I plug it in to my PC it’s recognised as a modem.
I’ve attempted to use https://github.com/Genymobile/scrcpy to display my phone so I can perform transfer operations unfortunately it requires USB debugging enabled which I don’t have.
I’ve also attempted connecting my phone to my TV via a USB hub though the phone model does not support HDMI output.
The phone is running as it is receiving calls with it vibrating.
Any thoughts on anything else I can attempt? I’ve already bought a new phone so not too keen on getting the screen replaced especially given there could be other issues.

If the screen is broken and you did not have USB debugging enabled before it was broken, there is nothing you can do to retrieve your data except repair the screen or find a tech shop that has the tools and the knowledge to pull your data directly from the hardware chip itself.
You will not solve this yourself using only software.
Use a USB Type C to HDMI cable to your TV.
The Samsung A30 apparently supports it.
HDMI Alt Mode doesn't go through a hub.
Enable ADB and download.
@Droidriven thanks, fair enough, I've ordered a screen and will attempt to replace it myself.
@Renate To enable ADB I need to enable USB debugging. Also doesn't seem like Samsung A30 supports HDMI output https://www.samsung.com/au/support/mobile-devices/connect-samsung-device-to-tv-via-hdmi/
Oh, sorry, my bad. The internet will give you an answer to any question, usually wrong.
Is there any chance that you can find the hardware serial console on internal test points?
Then you just need to:
Code:
# settings put global adb_enabled 1
If your ADB was previously enabled, then you won't have to deal with the invisible acceptance screen.
If not you'll have to echo the public key into /data/misc/adb/adb_keys
(I just did this on my B&N Glow '21 when it factory reset and it blocked me with a mandatory OOBE setup.)

For one, your solution is not a software solution, which is what I said, that they would not solve this with software alone. That is true and that is all I was saying.
Second, this solution is a hardware approach that the typical user has no experience with, which is why I didn't present them with an option that I am certain they are not comfortable with or experienced enough to attempt, as demonstrated by their attempts with software and unsupported HDMI and then stopping there to ask for help. An answer that more than likely seems more like a risk to them than a solution, isn't really helpful to them. I've helped with users dealing with this issue for years, I've learned that the vast majority of them are not comfortable with resorting to solutions that people like you and I would. With most of them, you may as well be telling them that they can solve their issue by biting a tiger on his ear, they are afraid of the solution. But, I understand, you have a proven, working solution, so you posted it, that is actually good, thank you.
That is why I said to repair the screen or take the device to a tech shop that has the experience and the tools(which requires opening the device to implement a hardware solution, as your posted solution also requires opening the device to implement a hardware solution) to retrieve the data for them(if repairing the screen is not their preferred solution, which obviously isn't). Also, Samsung isn't as simple as B&N hardware, Samsung has some tricky stuff when it comes to hardware, especially their Qcom versions, such as Qfuse(on some nodeld)and other tricky hardware designed to make tampering a real pain or even kill the device with built in components intended to kill the device if triggered. Their bootloader is pretty hard to get past without breaking into the hardware itself also.
Yeah, I know about Samsung, which is why I don't buy it.
In any case, if it's booted to Android, then Android generic solutions will work.
I don't have any idea if a serial port is accessible, but if it were, that would be an easy option.
thanks for the advice guys, @Renate your solution is probably probably beyond my expertise though thanks for your comment, hopefully I can understand it better in future. I'm hoping to use this screen replacement as an entry point into mobile phone repair.

Question; How to retrieve (internal) data from blacked out mate 20 X

Hi XDAers ... I have a challenge.
Huawei mate 20X fell.
Screen broke, as in black.
Phone turns on and can get into recovery, but nothing more.
Unsure if it is sitting and waiting for my unlock code (tried it on the black screen a few times wout success), or what it's doing.
The output over hdmi is also black (but this is most likely due to not being able to select the correct mode when usb connected.
Does anyone here have any ideas on how I can extract the data (internal - no sd card) from the phone ?
My computer recognizes a usb connection, HiSuite also recognized a Huawei connection, but says the device not connected.
RPi also sees a usb device, but nothing can be mounted (suspect again need to allow this on the phone screen).
Any ideas ?
Thx
Iyah.
HiSuite HDB activated on device?
HiSuite is a software that allows you to exchange data between our Huawei device and a PC. For data transfer, HiSuite HDB must be approved on the Huawei smartphone, as this function is equivalent to USB debugging and thus frees up more rights to access the smartphone.
HI,
Not sure tbh if it was enabled on the phone, but too late now in any case if ti was not.
Not sure any Huawei tools would help now. Suspect some sorcery with fastboot and something like a CM image required (does that evne still exist ?? Many years since I've tried anything similar).
how about fixing the screen ? any service should be able to replace the broken screen.
Yep fixing the screen looks like the "mechanical" way forward.
At $100 though was thinking might be better to just get a new phone .. and grab the data off of this one.
And what if the new screen doesn't fix the issue (think it'S the screen ... but can never be sure).
Would prefer a bit of sorcery, but if that's not possible, might need to risk the $100.
