Google think that almost every device running android, is their device. Therefore they implemented a service within Google Play Services that will connect your device often to the Google and it will drain more battery then needed.
NOTE:
I tried a method that was shown on i think this forum or another one. I can't remember which one it was, and i cant find the thread either.
So before i am going to start this, i wanna thank the guy from the original thread for this, even if i dont know where i can find you. I am only sharing this so i take NO CREDITS.
I repeat, i am ONLY sharing this.
+ Works with:
- AOSP roms
- TW roms
- Well, basicly all android running devices :fingers-crossed:
To start with:
- Turn of location settings
- Go to settings, accounts and go to your google account.
+ go to advertisements and untick the toggle that says that Google takes care of your advertisements.
Most important:
- Download Adaway (latest) from HERE.
Thank you @mrRobinson for this awesome app!
- Open adAway and provide Adaway root access.
- Press the menu button and go to your own custom list.
- Now add a line by pressing the + button in the upper right of the screen.
- Add the following line < mtalk.google.com >
- Make sure the the checkmark is ON with the "mtalk.google.com" line.
- Now go back to the homescreen of adAway, apply the patch.
Note: According to the maker of the original thread, this seems to be the server that your device is always trying to communicate with. So by blacklisting this URL, there is no connection anymore.
Note 2: Cyanogenmod (and maybe other AOSP or GE users) are experiencing that the Blue highlighted WI-FI icon and the blue highlighted antenna icon are now GREY after applying this.
This is because you are not connected anymore to the google servers.
Note 3: Keep in mind that you can still manual synchronise your calander, contacts, Gmail, and other Google account related.

This (syncing) only applies for manual updates. Leaving the entry in Adaway will disable auto-updates. Not a viable option for me, am not going to manually refresh Google apps...

I don't think Ad away works as it should though.
It says its syncing and merging with my current hosts file but after doing that my hosts file goes from 1.4mb to 700kb. So all its doing is deleting stuff. Weird

Ah i did not checked my host file if became smaller. But adAway definitely works for me as it completely rebuilds the host file.

I believe this is not a viable option for many users for the same reason ...but still for some may be useful

I think if you do that, you are not even able to Sync and update your apps at al.
I am just sharing this, i am using it myself and im pretty satisfied.

I always delete GooglePlayServices and never have any problems with apps updating.
I still get notifications in my status bar telling me when there is an app update available in the Play Store and also still get my Gmail notifications in my status bar.
Syncing works perfectly and so does Maps, Google Search, YouTube etc.
I actually can't see ANY reason to have GooglePlayServices installed.
All my Google apps still function perfectly without it.
And I no longer have RAM wasted and battery used up by this annoying app!!
My advice to everyone, delete it, it's not needed at all.

Was pretty euphoric when I read this so immediately disabled Play Services and rebooted like a happy little kid :laugh:
That level of joy didn't last long:
Maps, Calendar, Keep, Youtube, these all need G.P.S. to function properly. Maybe even more apps but this is where I stopped.
Needless to say turned it back on again. This, as well, is not a viable option for me

That's odd, I don't get Google Maps requesting Play services on my device.
I do get one of those notifications after wiping cache and dalvik cache though, I just swipe it away and carry on as normal.
After you swiped them away can you still use the apps requesting it?
For example when I first boot up YouTube after wiping cache it says it needs PlayServices to run but I just ignore and cancel it.
I have never lost any YouTube functionality at all.

Some yes, some no. Keep refused to work. Anyway, can easily make it through the end of the day anyway and will always charge at night so no biggie but all small bits can help of course. This fix is a bit too coarse, for me that is of course

are you missing the "Home" symbol in Chrome? And the effect that Chrome conveniently shuts down when you close the last tab?
There is a small app in some ROMs, called ChromeCustomizations.apk or sometimes ChromeHomepageProvider.apk
Sometimes it works when you pull this file off a ROM and put it in your /system/app folder, but now I am systemless rooted with Magisk and don't want to deal with the partition.
Here is my workaround:
a) Either throw the attached apk in your /system/app folder and enjoy or
b) install it simply as a user app (I have signed it with SignApk) and make a systemless System-app out of it with Magisk and the App Systemizer module. This works like a charm on my 7.1.1 ROM. Should also work on Oreo.
Notice that you will have an additional setting in Chrome called "Homepage" then. By default this is Bing, sorry for that, but you can simply enter your preferred page or use "chrome://newtab" instead. Enjoy!

Is there any way to list my all last visited websites and bookmarkes as well. I want to it for more organised work so that I don't have to find specific website from a list of the bookmarks.
How about "chrome://history" ?

Go to the play store page of the app in question. Tap the three dots menu in the upper right corner and disable automatic updates.

Since the begginning I use all my android device without google. I know that this phone is new, not so many rom out there, I can't wait to have one, where we can flash gapps separate.
But til that, I deciced to delete all google staff manually (except for gboard, as I can't find any decent keyboard).
I'm not sure, but I guess for this decision I have some issues. All the apps with a built in browser force close or don't react if I wanna use its browser. Some other apps won't even start. (Not even says any "missing google play services msg")
My question is, how can I make sure what cause the problem, plus how I need to do properly to skip google?
I deleted gapps with titanium backup.
I have also an ancient galaxy s4 on lineage, only rom, there these things work like a charm. (With its limited speed )
Or do u think there's gonna be option soon to do only rom for the phone?
Plus if u have the same "googless" system on any device, please share with me how u do with google pendent apps, which play store alternative u use etc..

Might be the webview, it defaults to chrome. look into developers option/ webview implementation and ensure its set to Android System instead of Chrome. That may solve part of the problem

Yes, that was my first guess as well, but as i deleted google, the only option is the android system, so nothing to do there, its set on that. Also checked on the s4, just by curiosity, it has exactly the same version, therefore this part should be fine.

I would start over and go gradually removing stuff and testing starting form the mist insignificant to the most complicated ones like services and framework, etc
Perhaps you want to look also into the tomato debloater thread. They have some tested scripts to remove google apps
Yeah that could be an idea, at some point that will be the next step.
I looked for this tomato db, it also gets closer to my idea, but til i don't find out the thing u mentioned, i'm not sure about it, as it's not 100% google free. Though sure i'll do the invisible option.
Plus there r some things in the extreme, that i'm okay with, like ambient screen for example. My dream is to have fully optimised and stable rom, that use all the benefits, what this exact device can offer, + tweak options, but obviously without all the trash, + without gapps. Y they don't just let us choose if we want netflix for example?
Apart from this, i really don't get, y stock roms don't give basic option, like disable pop up notifications. Such a little option, but so useful.
I wish i knew how long it takes to make these clean roms, but in case if not soon, i'll go for this options what u wrote, thank u

I havent had chrome, ok google, google, and all google related stuff for years. I have deleted them with titanium backup always, even on my op 7 pro. I only have playstore and use brave instead of chrome. No issues so far

I did the same, but includeing paly services, framework.., all. I use apkpure store, now i even managed the the system webview to work. Not the one built in, that did't work, no matter what i did. From magisk i found something systemless webview, that does the job.
The only thing i miss is the push notification. (And block popup). Im shocked that no solution so far, that's y we like android. But with some things they look to move on the way of ios.

Set to auto update to wifi only and disable wifi.
Use ApkExport to copy your apps so you have them.

Disable Playstore or Google Play Services (Playstore is dependent on it).
Both constantly running in the background... needed or not.
You will need Google Play Services though for Gmail and other apps occasionally during the day.
Use a firewall to block it.
Use a package disabler.
I use both...

I'm not sure what's causing that. I can package disable Playstore, firewall block it and it's settings are the same after it's enabled again.
If it's data on the phone is getting cleared on reboot that could do it... 3rd party cleaner or power management.
I don't use Playstore much and all my apps/updates are backed up for reload.
In part because you can't get older versions on Playstore (if the app doesn't disappear entirely) and because Playstore downloads are a slow, tedious pain that use up too much time when reloading.

Boost carrier Moto g Stylus 5G 2022 XT2215-4 with Android 12. Google Play Services App is DISABLED. I cannot completely disable the Google Play Services Availability alert option in the Phone App (SHOW NOTIFICATIONS locked). Other apps allow the user to disable the Google Play Services Availability alert. Is there a fix for the Phone App?

You can temporarily disable Google play Services. I normally do unless it's needed like for Gmail. Playstore, Backup Transport are also a dependencies of it. Pretty much a menace... even on Android 9
Change the default phone app and disable Google Dialer.

Thanks for your input. I disabled Google Play Services. Even removed it using ADB. Unfortunately, I cannot turn off the alert in the PHONE APP that's looking for Google Play Services (see attached screen shots). The radio button to disable the alert is greyed out.

Phone app is fully functional. The issue is the alert message prompting the activation of Google Play Services. I can turn off this prompt with other apps, but not the phone app.

Yes. Since the notification cannot be disabled, it can become annoying after a while.
Google Dialer is currently your phone app and is set as default.
Install a 3rd party dialer app of your choice and set it as default. Now you'll be able to disable Google Dialer (or Phone) app from its app info page.

If you're fine without call recording feature, the above is an excellent and safe alternative.

Excellent! Will install the other option. I also have the 6 GB RAM version of this phone from Metro. Per app inspection, the other phone app is identical in revision number, but it doesn't have the Google Play Services Availability radio option.
If time permits, I may remove Phone App via ADB, then download the next Phone App apk. I don't know if Google Play Services Availability is hard coded into Boost's Android 12 build. Thank you very much for your input.

On Samsung's they use their own phone/messaging apps and Google play Services isn't mandatorily intergrated into them so they will run fine without it. You're going to have to play with it.
Completely removing Google play Services could cause headaches. It maybe possible to block the popup via a adb edit but no idea how or if possible on a non-rooted phone.
All Gookill apps are a pain and Google play Services is integrated into them to a greater or lesser extent. 3rd party phone app... maybe.

I suggest that you install the alternative app first, set it as default and test everything is working fine (although there is no reason why it wouldn't) before attempting to remove the stock dialer.

A whole lot of apps are dependent on Google Play Services. On one of my devices, I disabled it and soon after I got some 12 to 15 notifications from different apps asking me to enable it. The notifications were so frequent and annoying that I just re-enabled it for peace of mind. 🫣

Will test drive the alternate phone app. I also saw a bunch of alerts, but I was able to kill them by going into each app and disable the Google Play Services alert radio button. The GPS's main function is probably to update the app. All the apps are fully functional without GPS running in the background.
Google's is in the business of data mining. That's why I want tight control of all Google apps whenever possible.

Updating is handled by Google Play Store.
Google Play Services offers a whole range of services that apps use, such as location, push notifications, etc.
If you are able to find apps that offer full functionality without depending on GPS, then you'll be fine disabling it.

Gmaps runs fine without it. Less some of the junk features.
Driving a taxi sucks... people are trouble.

I use HERE drive. Download the map into your phone and turn ON location. Hopefully, I only need to use the SMS and Clock app. But I agree, a lot of useful stuffs are in the Google ecosystem. Chrome is significantly faster than Firefox per my setup. Edge was fast until it got bogged down with AI search. This is how they push you to upgrade the processor.

Than no need for Google play Services 99% of the time. It's a data mining parasite.
