I am trying to use appbrain but it just seems to work like the droid store. it tells me about updates, just like teh droid store. Really can't see why anyone uses appbrain. What am i missing here?

Well, that's not literally true. You can select to install or uninstall from that site, which is handy. But you still need to go in through market via Appbrain app on your device, and you still need to individually select the OK buttons, etc for each app installing and uninstalling.
Ideally you would select install or uninstall from the site, then on the phone go on with the client, review the list and click the X to stop the action if one is wrong, and then let her rip.

Actually, it is literally true. If you install Appbrain's Fast Web Installer, it will install whatever app you click install on momentarily on your phone without any interaction from you on your phone.

And I like the way appbrain updates more than market, plus it can be easier to click install apps, and sync them later to install (easier now with the fast web installer)
download the appbrain app and then use it to sync with appbrain.com
now all your app info is available on the site and it wil track your updates and/or replace your apps. iT makes it easier than hunting on the app store
Ok, so since I change roms occasionally it is a pain to have my apps try and restore themselves everytime I start a new ROM. I'd be ok if it were just 50 or so apps, but it tries to install every app I have ever downloaded and that is a TON!
I know I can skip the sign in process and turn off "automatic restore" but is there a way to just delete the cache of apps that the Market thinks I want? That way I can allow the auto restore without having it force close my phone because its overloaded.

The only way i can think of is uninstalled each app via the market once it's installed. That will remove it from your account
Has anyone ever figured this out? I have tried uninstalling from "Manage applications" in settings. I have tried uninstalling from the marketplace app. I have went onto the website but there is NOTHING that you can do with the apps in your "My Apps" list.
I flash my phone a few times a month and I think it is nice that it will reinstall all your market apps but there are a LOT that I just install to try and then want them GONE forever. Has anyone ever figured this out?

There is no way to do it from what I can tell. It drives me nuts. I wish Google would fix this.
There is a toggle for it in privacy settings and if using a new gb release you get that option in the setup wizard too
Thanks, but I do not think that is exactly what I am looking for.
I use CM7 nightlies but a few times a month I like to clean house and reinstall. Yes I do get the option to either sync or not sync.... but both ways suck right now. If I sync then I have to go back and remove all the CRAP that is sitting out there... If I dont sync I have to go back and install all the Apps that I actually want from there....
Both way suck. What I want is to be able to remove the items in the list for restore. That is the part that Google needs to fix. It is just annoying as heck.

I believe that Google has said that if you uninstall an app that you did NOT purchase then it will be removed from your "My Apps" section within a week or so? Has anyone seen this?
As far as removing individual apps, perhaps the /data/data/com.android.vending/databases/market_assets.db file can be edited? I have found that deletion of this file, a reboot, then opening the android market; solves the "Missing My Apps" section on the market. I JUST did this solution, so I am not sure if this is a long term fix or not.
This issue in particular may be related to Titanium Backup Pro? Unsure, but I am a user if Titanium Backup
My point is, this database file has our market link data. Claerly when the data is broke the "My Apps" section is missing, yet perhaps there is a way to edit this file to hide a few apps from the "My Apps" section?
I can't post up links yet as I am still a new member, but if someone wants to view the .db files there is an application called "SQLite Database Browser" available on PortableApps dot com. This browser does not appear to show the actual data, only the tables and extents, yet this is at least a start... I believe there are linux database viewers that will actually show the data if desired

I found the Google link about removing downloaded apps. They simply say you can uninstall, and that there is no way to remove the apps from "My Apps" section on com.android.com

Go to Google Play
Press the downloaded symbol (line with arrow above it) in the top left corner.
Slide over to "All"
To select, hold finger on an app.
Now you can just tap an app to add it to the list.
Repeat for all apps you want to remove.
Press remove in top left.
Done.

I discovered today that Google lied a lot about removing unused app from his list ...
The app are just hidden for us, Google keep all in his database
i am so angry
i searched a way for blocking market to update itself automaticely, and i found here on this forum the way ( with chattr +i )
And go back to market 3.1.3
And i had big surprise when i saw all the app i had "removed" from list are still here ....

Wouldn't it be easier to just go to the Google Play Services app info page and deactivate it? (Just long press in the app drawer and move it to app info)
Or is there any downside that I am not seeing? (besides it taking up a few kb of space)
I didn't test it since I don't mind the icon.
If you have a custom launcher that can can hide apps use that, that way you also keep the functionality it provides.

This prevent the google play service run in background. Playstore continues working as before.

Not, you can't disable it, this service autostarts automatically. It takes more than few kb, takes about 5MB or more, but this is not the bad.
The bad thing is this could be something relationed with ads and system stadistics and google plus forced by google (remember google don't be evil).

I am not talking about closing it but deactivating it. Are we talking about the same option?
Because I have that option.
Why would it restart when I deactivate it? Or is Google not consequent enough here?
I don't want to try it since it will delete all user data and delete the updates.
But you are right, the app is bigger than I thought (both on the storage and RAM).

Sure?? I remember when I tried for first time that no....... it doesn't remove any user data, you are wrong..... the settings are stored in com.android.settings and com.android.settings.provider
About the updates it doesn't remove the updates.... the updates are part of playstore.apk/vending.apk and marketupdater.apk, not this.
I have news about playstore remote installation, it works!!!!! without this.
I have three buttons in my google play services app info:
'Beenden erzwingen' - force close ?
'Updates deinstallieren' - uninstall updates
AND
'Deaktivieren' - deactivate
If I hit the deactivate button it asks me if I want to reset all user data and all updates.
Are you perhaps on an older android version that does not yet have this?

Mine is Gingerbread (Cyanogen Mod 7.2).
Deactivate is like do nothing. For example, I can with systemcleaner put this service apk on the blacklist , but every time that the service starts the application kills like task killer, but this is bad for CPU,RAM and finally batteries, because it scales the cpu mhz up every time that the service tries to reload.
Is the same that if you put a task killer, you can kill the application but it reload again....
I think that the newer versions of playstore/vending calls automatically this apk service.
The solution is to remove and there is no apk = no application installed = no intent receiver = no aplication starts.
The odex file prevent that android application installer (pacman?) install/update the android play service application apk.
This is because if you create a odex of any apk that you have installed and then delete the apk (no the odex), then reset. You could check that the application disapear from app drawler and android application manager but there is the odex file with the same name of the application. But now if you try to reinstall, the android application shows the message of insufficient space only for this application, you can install any other without problem. This is because the android application installer detects the odex file.
My solution is based on this.

I cant find playstore to download. How to get it after deleted? Another thing, I cant find com.google.android.gms-1.apk what I have is

They are NOT the same thing.

But user without Jelly Bean (I think that is the version this option came with) won't be able to do that.

You can uninstall it and make a com.google.android.gms-2.odex or com.google.android.gms-1.apk empty file

I would recommed that you test it (deactivate) and check with adb shell and top command or "ps" to check if the service runs.
I had JB in the past and I was unable to deactivate. Every time that I entered in the playstore app , the Google services apk was called and running.

There is a lot more going on here. These Google Excreta Droppers are spying on us. I disabled it in startup, and it adds back itself.
The Google Play Services is pushed back in around 2 days after you uninstall. Within these 2 or three days, the Google Play wont install or download any app, it just shows the running bar. Now they have changed the color of their feces. I disabled the Google Play Services. and when I updated the youtube and run it, It says I cannot use it without Google Play Services. I uninstalled the update and it runs like before.

Google think that almost every device running android, is their device. Therefore they implemented a service within Google Play Services that will connect your device often to the Google and it will drain more battery then needed.
NOTE:
I tried a method that was shown on i think this forum or another one. I can't remember which one it was, and i cant find the thread either.
So before i am going to start this, i wanna thank the guy from the original thread for this, even if i dont know where i can find you. I am only sharing this so i take NO CREDITS.
I repeat, i am ONLY sharing this.
+ Works with:

To start with:
- Turn of location settings
- Go to settings, accounts and go to your google account.
+ go to advertisements and untick the toggle that says that Google takes care of your advertisements.
Most important:
- Download Adaway (latest) from HERE.
Thank you @mrRobinson for this awesome app!
- Open adAway and provide Adaway root access.
- Press the menu button and go to your own custom list.
- Now add a line by pressing the + button in the upper right of the screen.
- Add the following line < mtalk.google.com >
- Make sure the the checkmark is ON with the "mtalk.google.com" line.
- Now go back to the homescreen of adAway, apply the patch.
Note: According to the maker of the original thread, this seems to be the server that your device is always trying to communicate with. So by blacklisting this URL, there is no connection anymore.
Note 2: Cyanogenmod (and maybe other AOSP or GE users) are experiencing that the Blue highlighted WI-FI icon and the blue highlighted antenna icon are now GREY after applying this.
This is because you are not connected anymore to the google servers.
Note 3: Keep in mind that you can still manual synchronise your calander, contacts, Gmail, and other Google account related.

This (syncing) only applies for manual updates. Leaving the entry in Adaway will disable auto-updates. Not a viable option for me, am not going to manually refresh Google apps...

It says its syncing and merging with my current hosts file but after doing that my hosts file goes from 1.4mb to 700kb. So all its doing is deleting stuff. Weird

Ah i did not checked my host file if became smaller. But adAway definitely works for me as it completely rebuilds the host file.

I think if you do that, you are not even able to Sync and update your apps at al.

I always delete GooglePlayServices and never have any problems with apps updating.
I still get notifications in my status bar telling me when there is an app update available in the Play Store and also still get my Gmail notifications in my status bar.
Syncing works perfectly and so does Maps, Google Search, YouTube etc.
I actually can't see ANY reason to have GooglePlayServices installed.
All my Google apps still function perfectly without it.
And I no longer have RAM wasted and battery used up by this annoying app!!
My advice to everyone, delete it, it's not needed at all.

Was pretty euphoric when I read this so immediately disabled Play Services and rebooted like a happy little kid :laugh:
That level of joy didn't last long:
Maps, Calendar, Keep, Youtube, these all need G.P.S. to function properly. Maybe even more apps but this is where I stopped.
Needless to say turned it back on again. This, as well, is not a viable option for me

That's odd, I don't get Google Maps requesting Play services on my device.
I do get one of those notifications after wiping cache and dalvik cache though, I just swipe it away and carry on as normal.
After you swiped them away can you still use the apps requesting it?
For example when I first boot up YouTube after wiping cache it says it needs PlayServices to run but I just ignore and cancel it.
I have never lost any YouTube functionality at all.

Some yes, some no. Keep refused to work. Anyway, can easily make it through the end of the day anyway and will always charge at night so no biggie but all small bits can help of course. This fix is a bit too coarse, for me that is of course
I cannot for the life of me figure out where I am going wrong.
Youtube videos and all online tutorials and guides suggest it should be as simple as going to towelroot.com, clicking the lambda, getting a prompt to download the .apk, install it, let it run, let the phone reboot, and install SuperSU.
But for whatever reason, that doesn't work for me. If I click the lambda in Chrome, I get a prompt to choose what browser to open it in, and selecting Chrome just asks me again after it opens a new tab. It never downloads. If I choose to open it in firefox, FF will render in the browser as if it were a text file. Going back to Chrome, if I long-hold the icon and choose "Save Link", I can get a copy of tr.apk downloaded. Alright, so far so good. Let's just run it... right? WRONG. "Can not open file". My other .apk's like F-Droid opened absolutely fantastically fine.
OK, I'll work around this using a .apk installer. Go over to Google Play, grab "APK Installer" (1.4 mb or so one), run that, select the .apk file to install aaaannnnddd, I get to the usual screen showing what's asking to be installed and what permissions it wants. Yay! I've seen this page before! Aaannd... The Install button cannot be pressed. It cannot be pressed in landscape or portrait. Only cancel works.
I have not found anyone else with all my searching that has had the same difficulties as me. Hell, as the forum checked my title to find similar threads, there's http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785869 which shows this guy managed to install towelroot just yesterday.
Anyone have any clue what to do to get a root without the troubles of wiping? This is absolutely tremendously frustrating.
Edit: I had to kill an app's process. I suspect it's Twilight that had to be killed - an app kinda like f.lux on Windows that overlays the screen with a warm tint to make nightviewing nicer. I ended up killing AdBlock, Youtube, Google Music, and a few others. I was then able to install the .apk using APK Installer from the Play store. And once I had root and superuser installed, I had to go into the superuser settings and disable the Tapjacking Protection (or alternatively kill Twilight - that's why I suspect it was a problem in the first place, as there's non-changeable tapjacking for apk installations) and I could finally grant programs superuser permissions.

Yep. Any screen overlay will interfere with the install button.
