Bottom of screen (navbar zone) becomes unresponsive. - Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S Questions & Answers

This is a very strange behavior.
After yesterday working under the rain (and the phone got wet, but its not the first time) I cant do any gesture on bottom because there is no tactile response. Showing back the classic buttons doesnt work.
So I changed to different firmwares and roms and the problem persists.
Also did a factory reset through fastboot with no sucess.
So at this point I could think its a hardware problem (why? If almost full screen is working well but not the f***king navbar)
Trying a TEST APP to see which part of screen works or not, effectively bottom part doesnt work (about 6millimeters)
If I flip the screen to inverted portrait, the navbar works (but cant pull down the notification panel)
AND, THE STRANGEST BEHAVIOR ABOUT THIS:
If I pull down the notification panel, THEN the navbar works while panel is pulled down (altough its not all the responsive it must be)
So I post this to have some help or to ear similar behavior on yours.
And if somebody has technical knowns and explain if is possible this behavior in a tactile panel.

I think maybe when you pull down notifications panel, the navbar input layer moves up a little bit, enough to place in a screen zone with working touch interface.
So yes, the panel has broken maybe due to humidity/water.
The strange thing is that only a 2% of screen was affected.
I only have one thing left to do: replace the whole panel. It shall to fix it.

Update: Today is working well sometimes. Maybe is getting dry?...

Even if you have to replace the screen, it's not that big of a deal. A replacement for our mix 2s is about $35, which is much cheaper than other brands. I replaced mine myself.

Hi, i have exactly the same problem.
My screen is fine and not wet.
Is there any solution dir this?
Thanks

No. My solution until a new display arrived was to use any edge gestures to replace HOME, RECENTS and PULL NOTIFICATIONS PANEL (from left and right edges wich was working).
So you will have to replace the display (about 50€ in AliExpress with full frame)

Notifcations are upsidedown when on a table with the edge screen facing me.

Hi all,
Forgive me if this has been covered as it seems like it would be a pretty common complaint (even through i've searched the forums for 40 mins now with no luck of finding anything on it).
Basically is there a way for me to view my notifications in the same orientation that the alarm clock shows. As it is right now, I have my phone on my desk with the screen facing me, and every time somebody texts me or I receive a general notification I have to literally try to decode it in the 1 second that it shows up (upside down).
Any suggestions? I don't want to have to flip my phone upsidedown (with left handed mode enabled) every time I want to read a notification the right way up - this seems like a huge functional flaw in samsungs edge screen.
Thanks, Steve

I wish! Makes no sense the way it is, especially when the night clock is the right way up but nothing else is.
Only thing I have found to work (temporarily) is to open an app that can be rotated, then turn your phone so the edge is at the bottom, and then shut the flip cover. Now anything on the edge is the right way up. But as soon as you open an app the right way up again (or go home) then it goes upside-down again.
I think it's an accelerometer or gyroscope sensitivity issue. Mine works the way it should most of the time. On the times that it doesn't, I just move it a little bit to either the left or the right and the display orientation is corrected...
Yes but if you then place it on the table and let the edge turn off, then get a message the notification will be upside down again
Like I said, mine works as it should on most occasions. Lying flat on a table, I just rub the edge and the notifications are facing me.
When they don't, a simple nudge to the left or right re-orients the edge and the notifications face me again...

[Q] Notification Shade Triggers During Calls

Hey all,
I'm very seasoned with Android, and I LOVE the OnePlus One so far, but there is one issue that is driving me MAD.
Whenever I am on a call, and I lift the phone away from my ear, the notification shade triggers and gets stuck at the top of the screen... No matter where I touch, it snaps to that location. For example; if I am in a call, and I want to add another user to the call, I press the +Call button at the bottom of the screen, but it never triggers, it snaps the notification shade down, and I have to drag it back up before I can use the phone functions. This doesn't happen all the time, but it happened a lot to me today.
My girlfriend was kind enough to help me with a screenshot (she just quietly stayed on the line )
Anyone else experience this? Is there a fix at all? I'm still 100% lock and stock if that matters. I also posted this on the OnePlus One support forums, so if I hear back there first, I will post the solution.
I had the same problem too. Seems like this happens because your ear touches the display, the top part which when touch gives you a peek at the notification showing the date and time, before the proximity sensor can detect.
The solution I found is to get the phone close to your face at an / angle, the top first and then the bottom.
I had the same issue with my HD2 running cyanogen, which has the same feature to peek notification.
Thanks @Sir Awesome!
I'll give this a try later... Sounds a lot like "You're holding it wrong" to me... It's okay that it gives the peek, but it just stays there.

Oneplus 6 - Unresponsive Screen (Video Included)

I've had the phone since the day it came out. It took me a while to notice but the screen is definitely unresponsive at times. It is actually difficult to notice because, if you are like me and spend hours on your phone every day, if every so often if a touch doesn't register, your brain automatically make you repeat the gesture and you don't even think about it. And, it's OK if it happens like once a day. But with this phone, it's hundred times a day. I thought I was crazy so I recorded a video with my OP5.
See here: https://imgur.com/a/lZS4eVP
OK so this is kind of a very bad occurrence. Usually, it's not always like that. Sometimes it works perfectly fine. I also wonder if this could be the reason why the double tap to wake is also inconsistent, when the screen is off.
Also, yes, I do have a screen protector, but I've had them on all my phones and never had an issue.
Looks like this is happening only with you, is this problem occurring only in specific apps? or globally..
The touch here works snappy and very responsive. Maybe a faulty device? report to service center, I guess.
I also noted unresponsive screen once in a while while trying to click some hyperlinks or items with small clickable icons. But it's not anywhere close to what your video showed. Best and fair thing to do would be: Fresh flash the stock rom, don't install any additional apps then see if the problem persists. If it does, time to call customer service for a replacement unit. Good luck!
I've had similiar issues with my Essential PH-1, turns out it was a defect in the digitizer and I was RMA'd on it.
Nope working great here.
Do I get a new phone if I rma it? Or refurbished?
No I get this sometimes as well. Not nearly as bad as shown in your video, but sometimes it just doesn't register the touch properly and you have to touch it harder for it to register. Or when scrolling it only registers the scrolling partially
i have same problem in the same position
It happens to me sometimes when I tap the screen (for example tapping on a contact in whatsapp) that the screen doensn't respond good. When I tap a few times more and with a little more pressure it's going well. (I didn't test without the factory applyed screen protector)
Do people who have this problem use gestures? For me, the problem also occurs (no reaction when I tap the hyperlink or a small icon) but I noticed that it only occurs when the gestures are on. Maybe there is a problem.

Multitouch/screen issue ?

Hi there,
I just received my new Mi MIX 2S (actually, I got it 360 hours ago, if you know what I mean...) and I'm very satisfied with this toy
I'm on the last MIUI 10 Global Beta (8.7.5) since this afternoon, with SuperSU v2.82-SR5 and of course, with an unlocked bootloader.
However, I noticed a "strange" glitch/issue when I quick touching/typing.
It's seems that the screen not considering the different touch but acts like it does "two in one" touch.
I made a small video to illustrate the issue :
https://youtu.be/NdW8Zeo1MLQ
Does anyone has this too ?
Do you think it's an hardware or a software issue (like calibrate or touch-delay update) ?
Thanks

Damn... I bought mine on Joybuy, I'll try to deal with them about the warranty because I guess I can't contact Xiaomi directly.
The XDA Gesture workaround seems to be a good temporary way but, I really don't want to stay on a defective device...
I already did this with my Oneplus One (as a early buyer, I got a similar issue) and it was worst with time, I regret to had never return them

Bought mine on Aliexpress, no way I'll get a warranty without me paying $30 of shipping and lose a month without the phone.
I tried the XDA gesture thing, but you can't really get the same gestures as on MIUI (alsway have to make the gestures from the bottom of the phone it seems). So for now I'm just using it with this "bug", with the keyboard closing from time to time when I type.
Probably gonna get a Mi Max 3 to replace it anyway sooner or later.
I just made the thest you did with a drawing app and I got the same results when I multi touched the screen very quickly. I hadn't noticed this earlier because it didn't cause any problem for my daily use. Specifically, in which context did you notice that issue?

I guess JoyBuy has the same warranty policy, which means cost return and more than a month without phone...
I haven't tried the XDA Gesture workaround yet, but I'm not too happy about losing the MIUI gesture
Hope that's JoyBuy will be understanding...

Thanks for your test and your answer.
In my case, it's very annoying when I (fast) typing a message, it causes a "fake" swipe and recude the keyboard or go back to home screen. I'll try to make a better screencast to show you in-use case.

Fine, I'll tell you my experience. I use to had the same problem, it's only noticeable using the keyboard and specially when you tap the letters located near the edge of the screen, specially like the Q and P. I'm almost completely sure that the problem is related to gestures, because the system thinks you're swiping, in my case I got some lag too in addition to the false back gesture. What I did to fix this is use the keyboard (Google keyboard) in one hand mode (long press the "," and this option will pop up next to the emoticon) and moving it to the center and the problem is gone. It's actually more comfortable this way because the space bar moves up and it's more accessible. You can play then with the keyboard size if you think it's too small. There are two others threads talking about the same problem and I recommended this solution in both, and it seems to work for others too. Try it and tell us.

Hi,
Actually, I think it's more an OS issue than an hardware one.
After some tries and research, I noticed that these "screen glitches" are bad interpretations of fast multitouching, translate into swipe/gesture.
These swipe/gesture come with the gesture navigation mode, included in full-screen desplay (and which allow to hide the bottom navigation bar).
If you re-enable the "classic" display, with the bottom bar, the issue doesn't seem to exist. So, I guess for MIUI, some fast-typing/touching are interpreted as gestures (swipe down-to-up = home, left-to-right = previous...)
In the same registry, I noticed that, if you use a scrollable widget (Google Agenda in planning display) and if you scroll down on it (in order to see the bottom lines for example), MIUI interpret it as a down-to-up gesture (and so, go back to home, or search).
So, I really hope that in a future update, the sensibility of these gestures could be decreased/improved...
For now, you could :
Enable the one-hand mode ok Google Keyboard as proposed by @rodaven (but personnaly, I dislike the fact to have a small keyboard with a lot of lost space around it...)
Disable the full sceen display mode (and so, say goodbye to the gestures feature)
Stay on full screen mode and gestures, get upset when you write a message and pray for un update

I have the gestures disabled because of that but it still happens in the keyboard (I don't like the one-hand mode). So, we need to wait hoping it'll be solved.

In my opinion, it's the same issue.
Due to the full screen/gesture feature, fast multitouches are interpreted as a gesture.
On my video, you could see it.
On the issue from MIUI website, users asked that swipe/gesture are disable over keyboard when it's on-screen.
I think it should be a solution to combine gesture navigation and fast multitouch/type.
Personnaly, I disable full screen/gesture navigation (for now, sadly) and the issue desappear, that's why I'm pretty sure it's a software issue (which concern very model with this feature).
I changed my screen
Actually i cracked my screen and replaced new lcd from aliexpress claimed original. I checked it is JDI. But the touch issues still persist. I think its xiaomi driver.. or i dont know.. i really regret having this phone

I tested more, disabling fulls creen gestures and the problem persist. There is a video with the keyboard trying to type "alguna", sometimes it makes a gesture "left to right":

It's very disapointing, I had touch screen problems with my oneplus one and now with the mix 2s.

Possible haptics bug?

I've been experiencing a possible bug where I start getting random little haptic clicks happening by themselves. The clicks are pretty much the same as what you get when you take the S pen out of its slot or tap a nav bar button.
Basically the phone will behave fine for hours and then all of a sudden these haptic clicks start happening here and there while I'm using the device, but are not related to anything I'm doing at the time. So for example I could be turning the volume up or pulling down the notification shade and a second later I'll get a random click or two. It then keeps on happening intermittently as I interact with the phone. A restart fixes the issue every time - at least for a few hours - which makes me think it's a software bug of some kind.
Anything else noticed this? I'm using an unlocked UK Exynos version SM-N986B.
I am noticing the same thing and it is driving me nuts. ? It's constant haptic click like when the spen is removed and I can't figure out what it causing it. I have a Verizon US version. I seem to notice it when I have a case on it. Using the ESR case with the kickstand.

Good to know I'm not alone. Interesting that this issue can affect the Snapdragon and Exynos versions. I'll look into your theory about the case. I'm using a Ringke Fusion, but next time the clicks happen I'll take it off to see if that makes a difference.
Otherwise I guess this is just one of those little bugs you always get when you're one of the first to buy a newly released device. I'm sure they'll fix this in a future update.
I'be been using mine since last Thursday with an Otterbox case and have not had that issue, mine is an unlocked variant from the Samsung store.

That sounds like a strange bug. I have the N20U 512GB unlocked US version from the Samsung store and have been using it for 3 days now and haven't had that issue.
When you say "click" do you mean like a random screen press or a small vibration?

Small vibration. Like when you pull out the spen. It comes and goes. Hasn't done it for the last 4 to 5 hours and then all of the sudden it's starts doing it again. I may do a factory reset as I am having multiple issues from the spen intermittently not working, horrible studder when scrolling with the 120hz turned on, sub par photos that are washed out and blurred, and atrocious battery life. Maybe I got a complete dud.
So I ended up reformatting the phone and chose not to do a restore but download everything manually including the settings and apps. The odd haptic feedback click is gone as well as some of the other issues so far.

Ahh the old restoration bug striked again. The only things I restore are media/photos, messages and contacts. Great to hears the problem wasn't too serious.

I also thought the compass could be the cause of this - like maybe it was still clicking on the 0° mark even when the side panel was closed - but so far I haven't been able to confirm that as the cause as it doesn't do it on cue.
In fact the last time I experienced the haptics bug I was editing the button order on the pull down quick panel, but I wasn't able to reproduce it this way a second time so it just feels like it happens at random times. And now suddenly for the last two days it hasn't happened at all, but I don't know if that's down to anything that I have done or a setting I changed
For me the jury's still out on this one.
I just had it start today! So annoying. I have no idea what it is. I do have the compass edge panel. I'll look out for that.
Snapdragon unlocked model here.
I just got the phone and I noticed the same thing. I did use the cable to transfer everything to the new phone. Nothing I tried worked until I factory rested it and manually installed my apps. I did notice that if I shake the phone it will do the haptic click a second after I stop shaking it. It seems to be coming from the bottom camera lens.
i removed the tools panel from my edge panel and couldnt reproduce this haptic bug again...
I am also having this problem too. Can't pinpoint what reproduces it yet.
