Morning all,
I obtained my unlock code back in may 2018, never needed it again, then a firmware locked the device down.
I couldn't find the correspondence from Huawei, so cannot unlock any more.
Contacted the douche bags on the live chat, got a stone wall.
Chat log at the end of this post (please don't quote it all)
After being a collosal douche they gave me a number to call, Bristol based, explained that I do not want a new code just the same one that Huawei have sent me previously.
My serial hasnt changed, not has my IMEI or device in any way.
This is a correspondence between me the end user and them the provider. According to GDPR I am allowed to obtain any correspondence from them as is my right.
The lady agreed and has escalated it.
Will repost when they phone me back.
The live chat is useless, but the phone number was actually not bad.
God damn you Huawei, all your employees agree how awful you are, give us some goddamn codes you absolute tyrants.

10:20:50 AM - Server said : Please wait. An operator will be with you shortly.
10:20:50 AM - Alexander said : Hello Paul Cheyne.Thank you for contacting Huawei UK & Ireland support. My name is Alexander, how can I help you?
9:18:25 PM - Paul Cheyne said : Good morning Alexander,
10:20:50 AM - Alexander said : Morning.
9:19:55 PM - Paul Cheyne said : I've had my P20 Pro device for over a year now. I unlocked the bootloader in May 2018 I think, Huawei provided me with the code, now after a recent update the bootloader has locked again. I didn't write down the code.
10:20:50 AM - Alexander said : If you could please bear with me a few moments while I'm gonna check the information.
9:20:23 PM - Paul Cheyne said : Huawei did send it to me, so I'm not asking for a new code. It's something that's already been provided..
9:20:29 PM - Paul Cheyne said : Of course.
9:21:11 PM - Paul Cheyne said : I just didn't make a note of it. The IMEI is identical. I know you don't provide codes any longer, but this is something you have already given me
9:21:21 PM - Paul Cheyne said : I've just misplaced it
10:20:50 AM - Alexander said : Huawei used to provide users with corresponding unlock codes to meet personalized requirements due to the usage of different ROMs. However, due to possible problems caused by such unlocking, such as system built-in function failure, device freezing, and power consumption increase, the unlock code application service is terminated on July 25th 2018
9:21:58 PM - Paul Cheyne said : You've just copy and pasted that. Can you read my query please
9:22:18 PM - Paul Cheyne said : YOU HAVE ALREADY GIVEN ME A CODE!!!!
9:22:20 PM - Paul Cheyne said : I LOST IT
9:22:30 PM - Paul Cheyne said : I WOULD LIKE IT TO BE RESENT
9:22:46 PM - Paul Cheyne said : I am not asking for a new one. I'm asking for it to be RE-SENT
9:22:55 PM - Paul Cheyne said : Not a new one
9:23:05 PM - Paul Cheyne said : Huawei already provided it
10:20:50 AM - Alexander said : We don't have this information anymore.
9:23:17 PM - Paul Cheyne said : Just resend the same one. Check my account
9:24:10 PM - Paul Cheyne said : You don't have that information? According to GDPR you should be able to provide any information that has been communicated between myself and huawei. This is a correspondence which would be included.
9:24:17 PM - Paul Cheyne said : Please speak with your manager.
9:24:33 PM - Paul Cheyne said : This is not something I'm going to let go..I'm a developer and my phone is now useless.
10:20:50 AM - Alexander said : I would recommend to contact the back office on: 08000886700
9:25:21 PM - Paul Cheyne said : Why?
10:20:50 AM - Alexander said : We are here the Huawei technical support.
9:26:03 PM - Paul Cheyne said : So you should know about these things right? I'm in technical support too
9:26:28 PM - Paul Cheyne said : You do understand my query right?
10:20:50 AM - Alexander said : We don't have access to this information at this department.
9:26:45 PM - Paul Cheyne said : And would they??
10:20:50 AM - Alexander said : Try to contact them on the above telephone number.
9:27:21 PM - Paul Cheyne said : ?
9:27:28 PM - Paul Cheyne said : Would they have this information?
10:20:50 AM - Alexander said : We cannot guarantee this.
9:28:05 PM - Paul Cheyne said : Are you avoiding the question?
9:28:30 PM - Paul Cheyne said : Smart of you to to not commit to an answer.
10:20:50 AM - Alexander said : Is there anything else I can be of service with?
9:29:06 PM - Paul Cheyne said : I've asked you a question twice
9:29:13 PM - Paul Cheyne said : Two actually
10:20:50 AM - Alexander said : Like I said before We cannot guarantee this.
9:29:29 PM - Paul Cheyne said : Have asked would they have access to this information
9:29:34 PM - Paul Cheyne said : You didn't say that.
9:29:38 PM - Paul Cheyne said : You said try.
9:29:47 PM - Paul Cheyne said : That's a bad answer.
9:29:57 PM - Paul Cheyne said : Then again what do I expect from Huawei
10:20:50 AM - Alexander said : Sorry to hear this.
9:30:02 PM - Paul Cheyne said : Never again
9:30:12 PM - Paul Cheyne said : Awful company, I hope you go like HTC
9:30:32 PM - Paul Cheyne said : I really do, android is about freedom. All huawei is going to do is lock it down
9:30:43 PM - Paul Cheyne said : Terrible company
9:31:01 PM - Paul Cheyne said : I'd say thanks for you help but you've done literally nothing.
10:20:50 AM - Alexander said : Sorry to hear this.
9:31:35 PM - Paul Cheyne said : You haven't given me my information and now you're acting like a bot with * style comments.
9:31:52 PM - Paul Cheyne said : Call there people 08000886700
9:32:00 PM - Paul Cheyne said : No idea if they can help
10:20:50 AM - Alexander said : I've provided the information what we have here for this matter.
9:32:28 PM - Paul Cheyne said : No you have not
9:32:51 PM - Paul Cheyne said : Huawei sent me a bootloader unlock code which I didn't think I'd ever need again.
9:32:54 PM - Paul Cheyne said : Resend it
9:33:06 PM - Paul Cheyne said : Jesus, it's not diamonds it's my unlock code.
9:33:15 PM - Paul Cheyne said : It's actually mine
9:33:21 PM - Paul Cheyne said : Don't you keep emails
9:33:26 PM - Paul Cheyne said : Or correspondence?
9:33:43 PM - Paul Cheyne said : I know Huawei are big on data harvesting so I know you have it.
9:33:55 PM - Paul Cheyne said : Just lying to me
10:20:50 AM - Alexander said : I would recommend to contact our back office.
9:34:32 PM - Paul Cheyne said : I'd recommend you have a word with your manager
9:34:36 PM - Paul Cheyne said : Do you job
10:20:50 AM - Alexander said : This matter does not require the intervention from a manager.
9:36:15 PM - Paul Cheyne said : You do not have the information, you cannot get it, you're going to pass me over to a number who will not help me...
9:36:25 PM - Paul Cheyne said : Youve done nothing.
9:36:30 PM - Paul Cheyne said : Ask your manager
9:36:35 PM - Paul Cheyne said : Sweet Jesus
10:20:50 AM - Alexander said : Like I said before this matter does not require the intervention from a manager.
9:37:01 PM - Paul Cheyne said : It does
9:37:33 PM - Paul Cheyne said : It does require a manager.
9:38:05 PM - Paul Cheyne said : A manager should really intervene right now. You're literally arguing with me about not giving me my information.
10:20:50 AM - Alexander said : I've just provide you earlier the information we have here for this matter.
9:38:58 PM - Paul Cheyne said : Speak to your manager.
9:39:07 PM - Paul Cheyne said : Please

I understand you buddy. Honestly, after all the Huawei drama and all, i won't take another risk with their company anymore. Unless they fix their mistakes and bring out their harmony os bullcrap, then my next phone will be an Iphone.
Also, again, sorry for the loss of your unlocking code. There are already rumors that Emui 10 removed the unlock command in adb?

Nah OnePlus will always be root friendly, the pixel most likely will too. No matter what an exploit will exist, if not then there's no point going android really. Installing APKs? That's about it.

I mean, i am not a big fan of oneplus. Maybe xiaomi is better since their community is much stronger now (from what i've seen). But you will have to deal with a lot of indians sadly.
I am also bored with Hw but Oneplus has its own issues. (quality check is the biggest one imo) Not sure why yt reviewers chose not to inform about its flaws and focus exclusively on its advantages. I returned my 7t a month ago due to display green tint. Sure it is blazingly fast, imo smoother than ios, devs friendly, eazy to fall in love with but but but.... I've never had to deal with that many bugs on my p20 pro. Morover it's not a cheap device either.
I was going to give 7t pro a shot but then i read a review on xda i decided to wait. Strongly recommend it.
The other downside of op is its service.
Anyway we'll see what black friday brings, maybe i'll chose 7 pro if the price falls instead as 7t release seems to be rushed and marred with shortcomings.
For me android even without root possibility is still much better option than ios. I used it for over a year and gave it to my wife eventually. Not my cup of tea.
If i was younger i would go for op (i mean i really hope they iron out all the bugs and hw flaws in close future) but when you have kids you think about sth more stable with strong camera dep,.so you gotta get two handsets: one for fun like op ) and one stable all rounder like galaxy s locked with knox, stable but not much of fun ).
Pixel is a no go for me, it's overpriced compromise.

You forgot to mention Huawei's main competitor, Samsung. Most their current devices in the free world are bootloader unlockable.

Unlock your bootloader on your samsung and watch it go crazy. Because knox. I will be moving to apple soon, unless Huawei fixes their issue.
@Limeybastard lol you're right, but I wouldn't buy exynos again, although some of my favourite developers are still buying Sammy..
Sony have always allowed it, LG, Motorola (I think) Asus, Xiaomi.
I think our choices are ok.
@The Restless Soul
AFAIK, the bootloader locking down is an OEM choice, I'm sure Google could lock things down but I really can't see them going down that road, so many companies use custom operating systems, system testers use Kali, you won't be able to use things like that if you can't go custom ROM.
I believe things will stick, can't see other companies going down the Huawei route.

Why limit yourself to those two phones?
OnePlus and Google definitely, 100% have the best two phones out there that money can buy..
Not apple and not Huawei.
With the correct custom ROM, correct firmware and correct procedures followed in the right order, Samsung's can be perfect, eg: my old i9300 Samsung S3 is still working today with a custom ROM on it
I had an S5 (epic phone) and a note 4, but the note 4 was the last nail in the coffin, I hated it..
If they'd switch to the Snapdragon processors again I would seriously contemplate going back to them.. the Mali GPU (in the Huawei and in Samsung's) are seriously weak compared to the adreno GPU from SD, not only that but the apple GPU i think would struggle if it had to compete with the newest SD, not on. iOS but if it was running Android.. I think it would be awful.
Apple's performance comes from having a closed loop of hardware and software, tiny variant in the above mentioned can only mean high optimization. Android has a lot more, hence the need for more power.

I looked around the forums and didn't see any programs to unlock the phone, but I've seen a few sites that will send you the unlock code for a fee if you give them your IMEI.
Question is, where do they get the unlock code? Is it created by an algorithm based on the IMEI? Is it just a big lookup table? Also, how did all these sites get the algorithm/lookup table?
An answer to this Q would be wonderful but I think if the algo is out, then carriers won't be happy. I think there is a global database from where these resellers sell us unlock codes.
Hope someone with some insider knowledge will jump in with a better answer!

Oh forgot to add, I can tell you this much. Your carrier has to purchase the codes in blocks from the manufacture vendor, which is why a lot of times the carriers will not have the codes for several months and be telling the truth. They are lying to you in the standpoint "the codes aren't available yet from the manufacturer", the reality is they have not PURCHASED them yet. Its a completely convoluted system that I believe just subsidizes the manufacturers.
Samsung released the source for the SGS III US versions TODAY and the phone isn't even released yet.
Please go to HTCDev and leave a comment like I did, that they need to hurry up and release source.
Go to their Facebook page if you want it quicker. PR is everything to them. That's how we got the bootloader unlock in the first place.
Ya its been 30 days since launch. They should post it...

BTW I posted on the Facebook page and I have an HTC fanboy ragging me out.

I mean, it was only a half-truth, but it was still a response nonetheless.
I posted some supporting comments in a couple of Facebook posts about releasing source code. I went back today and it looks like they deleted all of the original posts.
Yeah mine was deleted too.
Looks like we're gonna have to drown them in comments. I just got my GS3 but I'm willing to support my fellow XDA'ers. This is the reason I avoided the One X, even though it was like $100 cheaper than an S3. Simple as that. HTC underestimates the number of modders who buy phones based on whether or not the bootloader is unlocked. It's time to show them.

Samsung seems to REALLY embrace the modding community while HTC seems to just give it lip service.
It really is complete BS.
My comments were deleted as well. I can't believe that HTC thinks this is going to solve their problems.
Can't they be sued since they are in violation of GPL?
EDIT: Screw it, I'm making a bot that spams their damn "Contact HTC" form with kernel source requests. Be back soon.

Amazingly well made site for a scam.
when i didnt see paypal as payment option, its surely a sign for me to stay away from it
Last night I was using Yelp on my Pixel and it rebooted randomly, now the only other time it has done this was on one of those ad filled mobile news sites that usually crash any phone due to some kind of bad code on the page, even then that's rare. So after it rebooted it immediately went to the bootloader screen, which was weird to me because I had yet to try any rooting or unlocking yet. I tried all the different options it gives you, reboot to bootloader, recovery, start...none of which worked and just always brought me back to the same screen.
So this morning I called Google support and they tried a few steps, then asked me if I wanted to process a warranty replacement. Obviously I said sure (this wasn't my first rodeo of needing a warranty replacement, I had a Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 and anyone else who has knows that Google was very lenient with replacements and usually did overnight shipping), then she said it will be 5 to 7 business days to my surprise. I asked why isn't it expedited shipping since its not my fault and I would be inconvenienced, she said expedited shipping will cost me. I could tell I wasn't getting anywhere with her so I asked to speak to a manager. I'm now waiting on a call back, but I am expecting to impose my will on this manager to get free expedited shipping. However, if they refuse I'll be starting an online smear campaign to make Pixel owners aware of this so Google understands how bad this looks as it relates to customer service.
What's really weird is I have seen a few articles about how much Google makes from ads and other revenue streams and how they are not really reliant on Pixel sales, yet around every corner I can see them cost-cutting and increasing profit margins. Waterproofing, stereo speakers, higher price and now trying to cut expedited warranty replacements?? Wow Google. I've had my phone less than 30 days and definitely having second thoughts now.
Probably a new or nervous cs rep, they usually go the amazon way and say yes to reasonable requests. Or it could it be a new policy on software related problems.
Before you go in a tirade, why not wait until the manager gives you a call back? Or place another call to them. If you calmly explain your situation I'm sure you can get a replacement in short order. Besides the fact, an online smear campaign will only make you look foolish and self centered. We already have enough of them with the likes of 'new year, new rant' and crap like that. You are justifiably upset, I'm sure this will be resolved to your liking. Calm down, take a walk, do something else other than focus on one phone call that didn't go so well.
Hey,
pretty much the same experience in my support case (the loose vibration motor). Google just doesn't us loyal users as important for them. I also got very harsh comments on my neutral support questions. Good customer support or thanking your loyal customers for their support of the brand is obviously not Googles target.
I'm not shure whether i will stay on the Google train in the next time.
Regards
Dude... They will send you a link to place an order for your rma and you can choose which shipping method you prefer... It will "charge" you for expedited but once you send your phone back to them they will refund you the full amount.
Alex from Google support is the real MVP....

Hi Aaron!
Alex
11:27 AM
How are you doing today?
Aaron Thomas
11:28 AM
Not good at all. Google is giving me the worst first 30 day experience I've had with a smartphone.
Alex
11:29 AM
Aaron, I am sorry for all the trouble. It must be frustrating for you as I can completely understand the importance of a working device.
Alex
11:30 AM
Please do not worry, I will try my best to help you with this. You can count on me on this as I will make sure I give the best resolution to you.
Alex
11:30 AM
I noticed that the device is stuck in boot loader.
Aaron Thomas
11:31 AM
Yes, a replacement order SHOULD have been submitted this morning. However, Google seems to maximizing its profits by cutting out customer service priorities like overnight shipping for warranty replacements.
Aaron Thomas
11:32 AM
Things like this are a sure way to lose customers as I am making multiple communities aware of this decision right now.
Alex
11:33 AM
I am very sorry for the trouble. I certainly understand your concern, and will be happy to look in to this. I can certainly relate to your situation, and would be happy to check for the available options.
Aaron Thomas
11:33 AM
Okay.
Alex
11:34 AM
I noticed that the RMA has not been created yet for the device. Let me explain how the replacement works, and what options we have.
Alex
11:35 AM
Once we process replacement for you, we will send you a link which you need to place the order. While ordering the device, select the fastest shipping method available on this page. The total amount including the shipping charges will be kept as authorization hold, and will be released as soon as we get the faulty unit at out warehouse. You won't be charged for selecting the fastest shipping method. Moreover, we would be sending your return labels, and you won't be charged sending the faulty unit.
Alex
11:37 AM
The other option would be to send the faulty device first, and the we would ship the replacement unit. This process take little longer than the previous option, and there will be no authorization hold.
Aaron Thomas
11:37 AM
Is there any reason why the support agent by the name "Leny" did not explain this the way you did? She said a replacement can be submitted with 5 to 7 day shipping (over the phone) and if I wanted faster shipping I would be charged for it.
Alex
11:39 AM
I am sorry for the miscommunication. However, as I mentioned, I would get best available options for you. I do not want you to face any further trouble.
Alex
11:39 AM
I am taking complete ownership for this, and will be with you to make this process very simple.
Aaron Thomas
11:39 AM
Thanx Alex, I just have one other question
Alex
11:39 AM
Sure!
Aaron Thomas
11:40 AM
When using this link provided will I be able to choose which credit card to use for the auth hold ?
Alex
11:40 AM
You can add the card details before hand at payments.google.com This is a regular process of ordering, and you shall be able to choose.
Alex
11:40 AM
I have a suggestion for you.
Alex
11:42 AM
Let me create the replacement first, and I will send you the link. I request you to place the order and I will stay connected with you.
Aaron Thomas
11:42 AM
Okay, I really appreciate it.
Alex
11:42 AM
Perfect! Let me process it. I need few information in order to proceed with it.

Julia A2:14 PM
Xaikar, I would like to inform you that the Black Friday promotion is going live on Nov 22, 2018.
Julia A2:15 PM
You can place an order for the phone during the offer period.
Xaikar2:16 PM
Really so I am having issues with my current device and I placed the order of the phone within the return window and I am still out of luck?
Julia A2:17 PM
Just to confirm have you processed return request for the device?
Xaikar2:17 PM

Julia A2:17 PM
Oh I see.
Julia A2:18 PM

Xaikar2:20 PM

Julia A2:21 PM
I have gone through your order details and I would like to inform you that you can return the device and place order on Nov 22, 2018, to get this deal.
Julia A2:21 PM
Thank you for staying connected.
Xaikar2:21 PM
So just want to make sure I am reading this correctly
Julia A2:22 PM
In this regards you need to refuse the delivery for the replacement device and once you refuse it let us know, we will initiate a request for return and help you accordingly.
Xaikar2:22 PM
Instead of just giving me a credit or something else you want me to instead. Return the phones and order them again. Taking up everyone's time and resources and shipping time etc.
Julia A2:22 PM
I absolutely understand what you are saying, Xaikar.
Julia A2:23 PM
I really wish I could have an option to provide you price adjustment for this.
Xaikar2:23 PM
Your method is a total waste of everyone's time and resources.
Xaikar2:23 PM
Its a MASSIVE discount too, its not like it went down $50 it came down $200
Julia A2:23 PM
Since, this is a special event promotion we do not have an option to provide price adjustment.
Xaikar2:24 PM
Just to be clear as day. You want me to.
Return the RMA, Return the original Device
Return the Pixel Stand
Re Order everything on Monday to save the $200
Julia A2:24 PM
I know you must have something in mind with the Black Friday promotion and I really wish I could help you out.
Xaikar2:24 PM
Which will cost Google in shipping costs etc
Xaikar2:25 PM
Return inspection of both devices restocking fees
Julia A2:25 PM
Yes, absolutely correct.
Julia A2:25 PM
You will not be charged with restocking fee.
Xaikar2:25 PM
So there is nothing that can be done I can't just get a Google home or buds or something instead
Julia A2:26 PM
You will not be charged for shipping too.
Julia A2:26 PM
I know it might not be feasible for you but each promotion has certain terms and conditions.
Xaikar2:26 PM
I know I won't but Google will be someone pays
Julia A2:26 PM
But, I am afraid that I cannot surpass the terms associated with any promotional offer.
Julia A2:26 PM
I really wish I had an option of doing something for you in this case however, I am sure you understand there are certain limitations at my level.
Xaikar2:26 PM
Cool throwing this conversation up on XDA and Twitter have a good day
Julia A2:27 PM
I really appreciate your understanding, Xaikar.
Julia A2:27 PM
Would there be any other queries, you would like to ask me? I would love to help.
Xaikar2:28 PM
Nope this whole process might actually have me looking at an iPhone now
Xaikar2:29 PM
No one wants to help everything is out of everyone's power etc etc no one even tries anymore
Julia A2:29 PM
Xaikar, had it been under my support boundaries I would definitely have made an exception for you.
Xaikar2:29 PM
I am not the only person who feels like they are getting scroogled here
Yeah, it's a pretty whack system they use to process orders. Don't feel bad, they do this for all returns. No price adjustments.

I wouldn't be so pissed if the phone came the way it was supposed to... Unlocked I left my pixel 2 and OG pixel alone but there are things I want to try again.
I've done some searching but haven't found anything specific for Pixel 3 but how do I return to stock from unlocked/rooted so I can RMA and get the Black Friday deal? Is it as simple as flashing the stock image from google and then relocking the bootloader from fastboot?
Yeah I was kinda ticked about the deals after purchasing mine the day it was announced. I would have waited but Google never has sales of their own store phones, only Verizon seems to do that. Next year hardly anyone will order day of release for the Pixel 4. Most everyone is gonna hold out for the possibility of black Friday deals like these.
So, on black Friday they are giving $200 off and still giving away free Pixel Stand?

That was certainly true last year. No BF deal on Google and VZW had 1/2 off one day only, no trade in, no new line needed. This year I needed 2 devices so I went with BOGO and the BF Verizon deal is the same thing except you don't need to buy 2. There will always be those that don't care for the savings and they will be first with the device in October. For the rest of us, always.. always wait for BF deals.
As to the OP, they never give refunds even if you bought it 5 minutes ago. You must return it and reorder. Must be something to do with their ordering system which locks in the payment. You'd think they had a way to do it but they don't.
can someone tell me what you mean when your phone is not unlocked?

Locked are 2 different locks. Sim lock, which Verizon has and I believe can be unlocked to be used on AT&T.
The other type is bootloader unlock, which you cannot unlock the bootloader to root the phone or do any customization. Verizon has it locked, and the google version is bootloader unlockable.

I don't understand why anyone would be upset that there are now Black Friday deals. They are always great deals on phones this time of year so buying one a month or so before and paying full price is your own doing.

ok, i bought the unlocked google version, not the verizon version. guess i could unlock it.. but i dont see a need to unlock the bootloader.. only thing i miss about my unlocked Galaxy S8, was that i could use wireless hotspot with it, and not have to pay ATT for it..

Sometimes carriers can lock you out of hotspot or make it really slow (3G) speeds capped at 512 kbps.
Try this app from the play store. It should have an option to hide your hotspot from the carrier and you would get good speed on your hotspot.

thanks for that.. i will see how it works.. is there a reason unlocked Samsung phones allow hotspot.. without ATT knowing.. i bought the samsung phone from Bestbuy a couple years ago.. unlocked.. and was able to hotspot the kiddos phone on the car no problem.. yet the unlocked google phone doesnt?

You don't understand why anyone would be upset? Seriously? I'm surprised there's not more uproar.
Google billed and PRICED this phone premium - their whole narrative was that good software is as valuable as good hardware, damn the supply-chain economics. I was surviving on a burner last month and desperately needed a new phone - instead of going for a OP6T I paid their iPhone-like price and therefore had iPhone-like expectations. Barely a month out they essentially cut the price in half. **** move. As a longtime Google user, Nexus, Fi user, etc. this was a total slap in the face to not even get the Fi credit.
I think Google should treat their target demographic and early-adopters with a little more respect. Sometimes it just feels like we're paying for the privilege to beta test for them.

All the major phones go on sale during Black Friday and it's been this way for years. I knew when I bought mine mid October that it would be on sale during Black Friday but I didn't want to wait for it so I essentially paid extra to get it early. $200-300 off (not half price) would have been nice but I wanted the phone sooner rather than later.
