This thread is serious....... PLEASE Expert opinions are welcome. I dont know much about unlocking and stuff, so please read.
I know this business of unlocking the SKR has been around for long.
BUT now there are folks on ebay, youtube, and other sites offering a USB method for unlocking th Skyrocket. Should buyers beware, or does anyone know if this is real?
Members yozh and BionicBeast have brought this before....but on searching google this business of USB UNLOCKING is out there. Are people being scammed?
examples:
http://www.fastgsm.com/en/page/how-to-unlock-samsung-i5700-spica-i5800-i5500-galaxy-3-5
http://www.youtube.co.id/watch?v=mH...DvjVQa1PpcFP61Cpp-L2yMG0La7fzZWij315zX043xRs=
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ht_1158wt_1396
EDIT: I think in only one case it is a real unlock code recovery.....the others look like hacks??
The first link you got there of the fastgsm one is real. I paid the $15 and unlocked the Tmobile Galaxy S2 which is almost identical to the Skyrocket.
It was done via the USB method. So it definitely works.
The second one is also real. It's another company that does it. I believe for about $17.

Thanks, dixit. Great input. So it is doable.......now we just need to get one of our great xda folks on the job !!!
Does this method actually find your unlock code that you can then enter, or is this a file hack? Can you provide further info on what happens at the unlock stage ?
I ask, because if this is a file hack like the famous Galaxy S unlocker, then one needs to worry about restoring the files etc. and warranty issues. If this an actual unlock code, then all is well .
There is already one person that has been trying to see what they can do on this. That person has been running on it for awhile but due to some finals he is taking its on hold till first week of May. So Id hang tight to see if that person can get anywhere. Otherwise wait a few more months and I think these will drop in the $2 range for codes once these phones lose their exclusivity deals with their respective carriers.

The USB method is not a temporary unlock, its permanent. What they are doing is finding the location that the unlock code is stored, and overwriting it with 8 zeros "00000000" and then when you are presented with the screen to unlock the phone with the unlock code, you enter 8 zeros and the phone is permanently unlocked. The code is stored on the phone, so all they are doing is changing the code, then letting you enter it in. Restoring wont affect it.
This is sort of what the other person is trying to figure out. They want to see what areas these folks are hitting on the phone and see if he can do the same without needing to pay for it from these companies. But like I said, its only matter of a few months or so till these phones lose their exclusivity with their carriers and then these codes will be widely available to unlockers and the price will drop to $1 like they are on 100s of phones on ebay. Right now its up there in price cause only ATT or Samsung can provide the code. Some say truly only Samsung can provide it cause if you call ATT they cant/wont even provide the unlock code.

Because replacing a known location where the unlock code is stored with an unlock code of 8 zero's is much easier then trying to decrypt the code already stored in the phone.
---------- Post added at 02:38 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:01 PM ----------
Dump the EFS partition to a file, then pay to unlock a phone via one of the USB unlockers, then dump the EFS partition a second time and do a binary compare. The lock code location and format will become very apparent in the compare.

Getting the location is a start, from there it's determining the format. The code is probably encrypted or it might be stored as an MD5 hash of the unlock code.
It may be that the unlockers have figured out the encrypted hash for '00000000' and just overwrite the correct location in the partition with that value so that when you enter 8 zero's as the network unlock code it works.
99% of the EFS is just 0x00 and 0xFF so there's not that much 'real' data to compare, maybe 150 or 200KB.
Another option is to collect EFS partitions from several phones and compare them, the relevant information such as IMEI, BT and WiFi MAC, unlock code will be in the locations that these files differ.

Ok, so if I unlock, then how to dump the efs...... I am going to rope you in for comparing efs and s$%t like that..LOL !
This info might be dated, since it has been a while that I worked for AT&T, but to the best of my knowledge, they DO give out unlock codes as long as you say the following:
1. You need it for international travel.
2. The offer you an international plan, decline it. Say you want to use a local SIM card.
3. They will say they can only do it if they put international roaming on this line. It is a free feature, so say "yes".
4. They will generate and provide an unlock code free of charge.
5. Send me whatever money you were going to pay
During the years I worked there, I did this countless times for customers.

Sorry, man, those days are gone. It is simply that Samsung still controls the database of the unlock codes for "famous"/top-end devices.
To prove this here is my chat with AT&T just 5 mins ago:
ATT: Thank you for completing the prechat survey. We can certainly check your device to see if can be unlocked for international travel. Can you please provide me the 15 digit IMEI number from the phone? You may obtain this number by entering *#06# on your phone.
Me: Sure....one min.
Me:
Brad Ritcey: Thank you. One moment.
ATT: Currently the device is not eligible to be unlocked. We have no set unlock date for the device at this time Mr.Subramaniam.
Me: So what is my option?
ATT: We do offer roaming plans while traveling for data, voice and text messages.
Me: That would be still more expensive.......
Me: Is there no unlock code at all for this device?
ATT: That is correct
Me: OK. Then I will buy a local to-go phone. Thanks !
I am never one to try any reasonable option....but this is the third time !!
Have you owned it for 6 months?

Yeah, it's been a while since I worked there. It is absolutely obscene to have to pay for a function of a piece of your own property. I'll try asking a friend of mine who still works there if there is any workaround on the horizon. It used to be just a matter of putting in the IMEI and clicking one button. This sucks.

Well as I said in my previous posts that you can save $10 by using the USB method. Two companies do it for $15. At least that method works and it's slightly cheaper for now.

I am not promising anything, but I may have something on that within a few days. I was able to get in touch with my friend and he was pretty sure that there is a way. He will be sending me instructions next time he is working. He usually knows his stuff, so let us hope for the best.

I tried to contact ATT twice yesterday. They all asked if there is a AT&T logo on the phone, then if I paid the full price (which I didn't), And finally said my phone is not eligble.
Samsung released the source for the SGS III US versions TODAY and the phone isn't even released yet.
Please go to HTCDev and leave a comment like I did, that they need to hurry up and release source.
Go to their Facebook page if you want it quicker. PR is everything to them. That's how we got the bootloader unlock in the first place.
Ya its been 30 days since launch. They should post it...
Yep. Hasn't even been released yet for att. Starting to piss me off. I'm within my return period but I still like the one x

I mean, it was only a half-truth, but it was still a response nonetheless.
I posted some supporting comments in a couple of Facebook posts about releasing source code. I went back today and it looks like they deleted all of the original posts.
Yeah mine was deleted too.
Looks like we're gonna have to drown them in comments. I just got my GS3 but I'm willing to support my fellow XDA'ers. This is the reason I avoided the One X, even though it was like $100 cheaper than an S3. Simple as that. HTC underestimates the number of modders who buy phones based on whether or not the bootloader is unlocked. It's time to show them.

Thanks Fred.
Samsung seems to REALLY embrace the modding community while HTC seems to just give it lip service.
It really is complete BS.
My comments were deleted as well. I can't believe that HTC thinks this is going to solve their problems.
Can't they be sued since they are in violation of GPL?
EDIT: Screw it, I'm making a bot that spams their damn "Contact HTC" form with kernel source requests. Be back soon.

They aren't "yet" the GPL states source must be released in a "timely" manner. and timely is not exactly defined.

So i bought myself a brand spanking new tablet from B&H in New York. I was looking for a tablet that has 4g and that i would be able to unlock and use on other providers around the world (canada mainly).
Anyways, turns out this tablet is not unlockable according to both ASUS and AT&T customer service reps. They said there is an exclusive agreement between them that makes it impossible to request an unlock code.
I was just wondering if other have had this problem, or whether others have been able to get this tablet unlocked, and if yes, how.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. This tablet has dug a deep hole in my pocket and i would really like to get my moneys worth
Thanks in advance.

I have read a thread in the past where two users contacted AT&T and were given the code to unlock. Sorry but I can't find the thread at the moment. The unlock code was not supplied in the post.
Maybe another AT&T contact requesting help and no reference to your previous info from AT&T or Asus. Just a poor soul lost and needing help.

Yeah I saw a few posts about people suggesting to call up AT&T, however I never saw anyone confirm they were able to get it unlocked.
So far every customer service rep I've spoken to said its impossible to unlock through them because of some sort of agreement.
Just wondering if anyone has had any luck any other way.

Weird thing is, I havent been able to come across any 3rd parties who unlock them either. Might just give up and get the wifi only one. Not worth the extra $100 if im gonna be locked to AT&T for life.

I don't believe they will. They lock tabs and phones because they want you to use their services and pay them. Tell a guy who wants to sell it to you to unlock it first and then sell to you. This way you won't buy not unlockable tab.

If you can unlock your v10, then what can help is if youll pull the full system image. If its possible. Then zip it and send it off to either LGMONO or ZVNexus.
Will do.
Personally I'm very weirded out by all of this. The LG V10 was arguably the very best removable battery and expandable storage device in existence. Even with that, it seems to get little attention. Even after the root solution was found. I appreciate all the hard work that goes into finding these solutions. This community is without parallel. Just seems weird that this phone didn't get more love considering what it brings to the table compared to the rest of the smartphone universe that resists giving you access to your battery or the option to add storage.
Hey all! Good news! A 9-year-old bug called the "Dirty Cow" exploit still exists in the Linux/Android kernel can easily grant root on any Android phone!!! See the video below.
http://www.xda-developers.com/9-year...on-of-android/
So there's another bug to exploit for root and even possibly unlocking the bootloader! The bug has been fixed recently in Linux but hasn't been rolled into Android yet. If anyone can get this working on my AT&T LG V10 (running Marshmallow) I'll give a reward of $50! Plus you'll be my hero! Now get crackin!

Why wasn't this just opened as a new thread instead of posting it in all the other ones?
EDIT: Oh.. maybe you can't until 20 posts now.
Is there a way to do this yet? Only thing from keeping me from getting this phone.

Unlike the McLaren 5g edition you'll be able to convert.

Is this something that has already been accomplished? Or is it just possible?

I'm sorry, are you saying you have a OnePlus 8T+5G with T-Mobile USA and you've somehow converted to international? There's no tool available yet. How did you do this?
There's no MSM Tool out (unless you've developed an unreleased one?), and the T-Mobile bootloader can't be unlocked yet because OnePlus' bootloader token site is broken for the time being.

Is there anyone currently working on the conversion tool? How about a way to unlock bootloader without sim unlock? Just interested in wether there's progress being made.

Umm how? No publicly available MSM conversion tool is yet available, are you hinting us that you are testing now a MSM tool and it will be released shortly?

I'm sorry I thought it had already been posted. Mine was used to test. I know it will be made public. I responded to the post originally to let anyone wondering know it will be possible, in case that was the only thing keeping anyone from getting the device.

So now that the beans are out of the box, let's hear more, #1 does it need to be bootloader Unlocked or we can drop OP broken Unlock Token site and go straight to conversion?
#2 how does it work? Are you getting the OP OTA like the original international version?
#3 what's the ETA when it will be available for the public?

From my experience had to unl bl then cross flashed. And yes afterward local update is now in my settings and u was able to take latest OTA sent out afterward(11.0.2.3 I think)
But I think the reason it has not been released yet is bcuz the bl unl is still a little sketchy and needs more perfecting.
When I first read this thread I just wanted fellow users who were skeptical of getting the 8t(tmo) to not be held back bcuz of no chance of being able to achieve bl unl/crossflashing/root on tmo varient. I will find out when this will be published

You can't Bootloader Unlock without the stupid Token and you can't get the token since OP site is drunk, I wish this comes out pretty soon and we will be able to just avoid OP token site and just convert it into international version.
Thanks for the information when you have a ETA I'll appreciate if you let us know.

Is there anything I can do to help with the conversion testing. I have my phone SIM unlocked and OEM unlocking is available in my settings.
Here's the thing on converting Tmo to Intl
Yes it requires a bootloader unlock.
Yes it's possible to unlock the bootloader
Yes it can be done without a token (however this is very hacky and isn't anywhere near ready for public use)
Yes some people have it done for testing
No it's not public yet.
No I didn't find or make it
Theres a lot going into this right now with limited options of how to proceed with unlocking. That paired with no twrp makes things kind of a nightmare to deal with.
unfortunately I can't give an excess of information, as im only testing/developing, however I will confirm these things for you.

Just FYI, it seems OnePlus' token/unlock site is working now. Late last night I successfully submitted my token, and I believe a few others were able to do the same.
The thing is though, it says I know have to sit tight and wait one to two weeks for an email with the token...but I'll call this progress, none the less.

That it definitely does! T-Mobile also makes it easy to pay off early as well.
I managed to get Affirm, oneplus's financing lender, on the phone. I spent a good hour, advocating my case. I told them that I would have love to buy the phone outright, if I had the means. Rep said the underwriters make the final decision. I argued further and stated that if I knew what Affirm looked for in their lending criteria, I could make an educated business decision, still said no.
With that, went to TMobile, threw down my down payment.

BTW gang, I got my sim unlock (not bootloader, but sim unlock) done already. Bought my phone on November 1st and now it's sim unlocked. Just waiting for the unlock code from oneplus.
