Fingerprint Issues - ASUS ZenFone 6 (2019) Questions & Answers

After updating to Android 10 about 2 weeks ago, I've been having issues with the fingerprint scanner. When the screen is off I need to tap the sensor twice for it to unlock, but when the screen is on, it unlocks on the first time. I also have issues with the fingerprint swipe down for notification gesture as it doesn't work 50% of the time when the phone is unlocked, but it usually begins to work after a couple of minutes. Does anyone else have this issue with their Zenfone 6? I am in the US btw.

I think in general the the os lags a bit with this update I have the same problems with the fingerprint sensor it's not all the time I only notice it if the phone is lagging at times. Usually I restart it and it goes away
I'm thinking of hard resetting the phone to see if that helps

I cannot confirm, but I have these setting:
Settings / Security & lock screen / Device security / Screen lock - gear icon
- Automatically lock - Immediately after sleep
- Power button instantly locks - On

there's an update today on my phone.
1. Fixed an issue where ASUS Launcher and Settings may not work occasionally
2. Improved the reliability of Fingerprint to unlock the device
3. Optimized system stability

[Q] Nexus 5 proximity sensor always active / on

Hi all,
I've had this issue for about 2 weeks or so. The proximity sensor on my Nexus 5 randomly stays active no matter what app is on or if the screen is locked. So whenever the screen is active and I put my hand/finger near the proximity sensor it will blank the screen. You can see how this would be annoying when you're just checking notifications and the screen blanks out. Any thoughts or suggestions? It definitely seems software related as a reboot solves the issue until it happens again. I've tried to consistently recreate the issue, but I can't tie it to any one app that was/is active, or any combination of events that causes it. After a few hours when I unlock my phone to check a notification I notice it's active because the screen will go dark. Is there a way to see what app(s) could be doing this?
My phone is unlocked and rooted, but stock rom. No screen protector at all. I can't think of any non mainstream apps that I have installed.
Thanks!!
I have this issue exactly. Did you ever find the fix for it?
Are you using any app that uses the proximity sensor to turn on the screen? (e.g. Shake Screen-On). Those apps keep the proximity sensor on (if using near receiver mode).
One way to see if an app is using the proximity sensor is by checking the battery options. One of those apps might be the one draining your battery.
Same here. Reboot makes it work fine for a couple days, then the proximity sensor just stays active til the next reboot. Has done this on CM, PA, and Cataclysm.

[Request] Lift to Face Unlock

Face unlock currently requires a double tap, which is annoying because it doesn't work half the time
Even though they are trying to fix this in the next update, a better implementation would be when you raise the phone, it shows the lock screen (not ambient display screen), and simultaneously turns on the front camera to face unlock your phone
Gravity screen can do this, but requires a heavy wakelock to do so. Using the same 'raise to wake' method as ambient display [which seems to work without a heavy wakelock], but then showing the lock screen instead of ambient display, should achieve this
I would LOVE this feature, it would be a complete game changer!!
I use gravity screen and don't lose much battery
Use the power button since it's more reliable anyways ?

There's still a fair amount of battery loss. Oneplus raise to wake seems to be able to do the same action without any battery loss
This was so fine on Op5 and 5T. Open Beta, of course!
Update: I've installed the wave up app. It basically wakes the phone when proximity sensor is uncovered
So when I take the phone out of my pocket, it authenticates my face automatically and unlocks, in a split second. I don't need to touch anything
Similarly if I keep my phone face down on a desk (not ideal), when I flip it over to look at it, it unlocks.
No messing around with d2tw which is more like quadruple tap to wake since this functionality is broken

Hi i use the original flip case from OP and as soon as i open my case door it unlocks witch is very easy and convenient.
Shall check with tasker.
Update: could not succeed.
I face no trouble in dt2w it wakes as it's intended to and unlocks with face within a split second, face unlock has become slower since the 5.1.9 and in dp3 but still fast enough
If my hand is dirty i just say Hey or Ok google.
Agree. it would be a great thing

Gesture not working

I there!
I can't find a way to make gesture works on my pixel 3.
Screen do not open when I take my device, it didn't open the screen when I double tap on it.
Even sometime, I need to reboot to make the fingerprint sensor being able to open the screen...
I have Magisk installed with january patch.
The fingerprint problem is more present since the last update.
AlwaysOn is disabled, however I installed Led Blinker Pro (even if I froze it, the problems are still there.)
The battery saving is disabled
I frozed the Wellbeing apps and the battery optimiser .
Any idea what's going on?

Workaround for Android Auto freezing on Oppo

Appears to be an issue with the Always on Display. Disabling that should resolve the issue.
See detail below;
Frozen screen - Android Auto Community
by the way feel free to spam their support email as this issue has been going on too long!

Solution : enable developer options, and enable keep screen on while charging.
yup screen on = no Always on display..
though also battery and burn in aint good...
Screen will remain on, but brightness will drop to minimum level as the phone is left idle. When looking at the phone while driving, it looks almost off, the home screen is barely visible.
would be great if someone could build a tasker or Automate task that turned off AOD when AA is running.. though you prob need Root..
Anyone having a issue after C62 update of it just now not connecting at all?
jipp here.
android auto refuses the connection after the update.
My head unit is trying to connect while oppo is asking which usb type should be choosen (load/ android auto/mtp or so)
Selecting android auto results in a connection abort and a short vibration.
Already cleared app data, cache and even reinstalled android auto with no effort.
wow oppo really sucks..
just got CPH2025_11_C.53 - android auto is working flawless again

Hi guys,
I have a Find X2 Lite with CPH2005VF_11_C_78..
after the android 11 update android auto start to freeze switching apps (ex from maps to spotify a 15 seconds black sceen) or when navigating has to turn direction (the cursor start flickering and after a while the navigation resume).
Is this a similar problem to yours? any suggestion?
my oppo f1s always turn off even after restart, how to fix my boss?
Images on the lock screen, crash the Android Auto. It is an OS problem. Here is what to do, till the problem is solved :
-Go to Settings, Security, Smart Lock and and your car a trusted device. That way you have your phone unlocked while driving and fingerprint disappears.
(You can also remove fingerprint from lock screen by going to Settings, Passwords & Biometrics, Fingerprint, Screen-off unlock and select off, but then you have to wake up your phone before being able to use fingerprint)
-Go to Settings, ..Always-On Display, Always-On Display and disable it. (You can also select Always-On Display with battery saver, which turns off image after some seconds, but on those seconds, the Andriod Auto is crashed)
@[email protected]$#[email protected]& OnePlus, OPPO and Color OS...
Same thing at OnePlus 8T with OxygenOS 12 (which is ColorOS 12).
After update to 12 I still have some problems with AA. Now phone is totally unusable (totally laggy or black screen) when connected to AA and after when disconnected - must wait ca. 5 min or restart phone.
But... After reading this tread I turn off AOD. And stil same. Then I turn off also fingerprint reader at turned off display. And... Everything works perfectly
Will test AOD on, FP on and Smart Lock at my car. But OPPO is a joke...

Slow fingerprint unlock from sleep since March/April 2022 update ?

I've recently installed the march security update and observed this : If I'm on the lockscreen and try to unlock with fingerprint, unlock is instant as it always had. Now, if I unlock with fingerprint when the phone is sleeping (screen off) it takes about 2 seconds before dropping to launcher.
Example in this video : I tap my left finger at the same time I reach the fingerprint sensor

I've tried rebooting in safe mode, install april security update, stock recovering and reinstalling everything... I still have the issue.
its a quite common bug i learned. AOD helps reducing the delay, also the android 13 beta solved it for me.
