Recently, I contacted Asus about the issues that we have seen since the JB update. Since I support a number of these tablets for clients, I have had lots of backlash since the update. I emailed Tien and Gary about what advice they could provide when dealing with these units. I have included the last response that I got from him that addresses factory resets and cold booting, as well as a method he recommends for installing software after a reset:
"Hi Jordan,
There are people out there who believe doing multiple factory resets works, but I do not think so. Once a device has been reset, there is no user data left on there. Everything is back to factory. There should be no way data can be conflicting. Restoring a device that has nothing on it in the first place would not make a difference. However, multiple cold-boots do seem to help. Start with a factory reset and then as you reload your data back on (apps, media, e-mail, ect), cold-boot after something has been loaded on. For example, once and app or 2 has been reloaded, cold-boot the device before you load another app. This is the same for new app s being downloaded also. You want to keep the cache clear as much as possible.
I understand that a firmware update, or even news of a firmware update would be a lot easier, but again, I apologize as I do not have that kind of information. HQ releases the updates, and for the most part, they are pretty tight-lipped about them.
Sending in a bunch of units might not the best solution - you are right. I would try cold-boots u for now. JB is still new and there are definitely some things that need to be worked out with it on the TF700. I would give them some more time to deliver a solution.
Tien"
I have yet to try this process on my tab, maybe someone will beat me to it. Hope this information helps someone out there.
The issues that I reported are:
1. Graphics related issues that show as a flicker of the top 1/3rd (sometimes the entire) screen while in landscape, also a line of black pixels flashes for a moment on that same part of the screen. I have seen this in many apps at this point including the stock browser and in the XDA developers premium app. It seems unrelated to the application since I have seen reports of it on the desktop. (this is driving our users crazy- need a fix quickly!)
2. Backspace key is not respected in many applications if the asus keyboard is enabled. There are lots of examples on xda but this worked in ICS and now, does not.
3. The auto screen dimmer does not work properly and will dim, and not increase brightness when tapped. It also seems much more distracting and does not dim as gracefully as before(I know it can be disabled).
4. When docked, a Bluetooth keyboard that is paired with the device, will not function. A usb keyboard will work, but it is odd that Bluetooth keyboards will allow no input at all while docked.
5. Crash of the device with a white screen- have seen this 3 times.
6. Wifi direct removal is a major disappointment as many users had a need for this functionality.
This is good information, thanks. The only real change I have witness that's a problem is Google navigation freezing or rebooting the TF700 during trips longer than a few minutes. Intermittent problem but it has happened on three separate trips.
I'm getting the occasional black lit screen crash/freeze

Not sure where you are seeing this. Wifi Direct was not removed with JB. In fact, I noticed it performs much better.
The option for sending a file via WiFi direct is avialable under the share options. If you are looking for it directly under the settings menu, it was just moved to a different place (not an ASUS thing.....it was moved by Google). Go under Settings -> Wifi and click on the menu button to access it (3 dots in the lower right hand corner).

Thanks for that! I had a couple of users who complained that it was not there. I emailed them to let them know it how to access it, they appreciate it.
--Would have been nice if Tien had mentioned it-- ya think?
Never even tried that feature and assumed it was removed since Asus listed it as a feature that would be removed with the update. I get it now.... they removed their custom support of it in favor of the stock android setup.
Kind of funny that an update announcement was posted today, I have been back and forth with them quite a bit in the last couple of weeks and the last email I sent to Tien and Gary said this:
"Unless you have a newer firmware with some of these issues resolved, I am not
sure how offering to send them to you will do any good....
Please let Gary know that this is effecting companies that have purchased over 50 of
these tablets at a time. We need resolution!"
Maybe I got his attention. I have to support these tablets, and so does Asus, they are an international company that is trying desperately to be THE go to hardware partner for cutting edge tech. Partnerships with the big G and M$ are evidence of that. I hope they realize that this is a defining year for them, either they will get their support in order or they will fold under the pressure of the added user base.

On top of these i have:
1. Random reboots,
2. Wifi drops out and fails to reconnect or slows down to be unusable state
Well if looks like some of the issues have been resolved but some still remain. Has anyone had time to try the method tien suggested in my op? Unfortunately i have not gotten time.

I also don't have the time to try, but I have my own share of doubt regarding these suggestion. Cold-booting my device after loading one or 2 apps is just too much of a hassle and I doubt that it provides any practical benefit. My friend's Nexus 7 haven't been turned off for weeks and I don't see any slow down or problems. The same thing can be said about my phone as well. I know they are different devices, but I don't think Google designs Android in such a way that you need to restart your device every time you install a new app.
Overall, I believe all of the problems above can only be fixed with OTA updates, and no amount of cold-boot or factory reset can fix it. I might be wrong, but it is just my opinion.
Anyway, thanks for sharing. Maybe someone will benefit from this discussion.
Since nobody has tried this method, I guess I will give it a shot today. Of course I have major doubts that this will actually work but if Tien said that there is some benefit, I have to at least try it. He is one of the only reps at asus that has ever given us any real help with the TF series.

Seriously? You think cold booting is a hassle? My friend it takes an extra second of hold the power down button when turning your tablet on. Come on stop lazy. Also if the op isn't blowing smoke, then these suggestions are directly from asus, so why would they lie? I personally have seen a huge benefit from cold booting after a couple of app installations. I do it anyways because i do like to keep my cache clear.

If a computer requires regular cold booting to work properly, it is defective. A Linux-based system should be able to reach uptimes measured in years (theoretically, if no updates were required).

Seriously? If you buy this expensive gadget you shouldn't be doing extra hussle like cold booting after installing an app or two. It should work without. This is the only Android device with this kind of problems. Not sure if this is some kind of memory leak or what is going on. Still its interesting that for example on Galaxy S 3 even beta roms work better than these official ones from Asus.
Asus designs beautiful units, then manufactures them with horrible QC and finally don't seem to know much about software optimizing.
Finally got around to trying this process.... Maybe I installed too many apps at one time since after the first few installs, i was doing more than 2 in some cases. No difference doing this method over factory reset. I am going to contact them again today with feedback from the process and latest update.

I can't say that I'm surprised, but I really appreciate your effort. Thanks for sharing.
To be honest the response seemed like a "SYA" response that was so far fetched and so much hassle you wouldn't bother to try it and they could push your issues aside.
I find it funny that they claim "Jellybean is still new..." when it has been out in the wild since around July or earlier. That seems like plenty of time to get the software optimized for your flagship device(s). If you want my honest opinion, the TF700 was placed on the back burner a little bit because of the Nexus 7 that Asus and Google partnered up for. That took priority but I do find it odd that the hardware in the Nexus 7 almost mirrors the TF700, yet the Nexus 7 does not exhibit the same odd behavior or issues we are experiencing (some of us anyway) on the TF700.
I must be one of the blessed ones because I'm not experiencing all the issues that are mentioned here. I had the hardware issue of screen flex and bent adapter port, but other than that and getting a replacement I'm pleased. I actually considered getting a galaxy note 10.1, but just knew I wouldn't be satisfied with the display. The screen is the major aspect of a tablet and you really can't find a replacement at this time for the full HD of the tf 700. I have noticed that my pad is running really well after the last update and I'm really happy I didn't go with the note. I'm totally stock and not rooted. I may root one day if needed and there is a method that doesn't void the warranty by using the bootloader (if there is please let me know...I'd love to use titanium backup with root).

Root does not require you to unlock the boot loader.

ICS can be rooted easily even with the locked bootloader. If you are already on JB, follow the guide to downgrade to ICS 9.x.x.30, root using the debugfs method, use OTA Rootkeeper, and then apply the OTA to JB.
So today(5-15) I saw online that T-Mobile USA released the 5.1.1 OTA for there branded Galaxy S6/S6 Edge, so any info on when the Verizon branded version is coming out? I'm having multiply major bugs(wifi, memory, and lagging) across 3 different S6 devices(original device and 2 replacements) since launch day. Also, the Verizon Branded OTA that just came out brought me new bugs like with Google voice to text giving me 2 new bugs and making it unusable. Also, apps are freezing like crazy and ends up freezing the whole phone and when I try to lock the phone with the power button when an app is freezing it opens up the camera instead of locking the phone and most of the time I have to restart the phone when this happens and it happens quite often, but only started after the Verizon OTA. Also, from launch day(across all 3 devices) I been having memory issues with the phone, it tells me it has between 1GB-1.2GB of total memory on the phone and I only have 748MB total available with only very few apps on the phone at the moment, everything closed and all the bloatware gone off the phone. I herd that the Verizon OTA we just got was suppose to fix the memory issue, but apparently for me it did nothing at all with the memory on my phone. and lastly I'm having the major wifi bug a lot of us are having witch for me started on the 6th day after launch and never worked again even after I had 3 different devices and still the same thing is still ongoing, and in fact the Verizon OTA we just got made the wifi bug even worst then before.
So the 5.1.1 OTA is really needed for me to fix these ongoing and new bugs I'm having and after 2 months I'm getting sick and tired of waiting for patches to come out!
You probably should go into your system recovery and clear cache. That will probably help a majority of your bugs.

I already did that and nothing changed at all, and like I said I had 3 different devices and nothing changed at all. In fact the 3rd device I got which I still have was giving me problems from very first time I turned it on and during the initial setup as soon as I turned it on from the FedEx box and the keyboard was slow and not putting the letters I clicked in the box and to click next/skip, restart or power off I had to use my pointer finger and press multiple times and fast like a woodpecker would on a tree in order for those functions to respond, and before I can even finish the initial setup I had to already do a factory reset on the phone. Even typing right now in this box responding to you the phone is lagging just typing now.
Don't think Verizon has announced anything yet. The current G920VVRU1A0E2 works fine for me.
To help with keyboard lag - go into settings and make sure the proper language is intalled and updated. Have you tried different keyboards? Swiftkey?

Well 3 different phones since launch day have been giving me all different kinds of problems and never had a device with out a major problem in it and the new Verizon OTA that just came out in June made the phone even worst then before. The Build for the update is G920VVRU1A0E2, and in fact I even had problems getting the update on my phone because from launch day of the OTA-4days after it came out the OTA would not fully download and give me error code 503 and it wasn't until the 5th day that it worked and then when I finally got it installed on my phone it just brought more bugs to the phone like I talked about in the OP

Have you tried using Odin to flash back to stock with the full tar file instead of the update? If not go here and give it a shot. If you use the OE2 one you will have to factory data reset to wipe your phone clean either after or before you flash.

yea I tired that, but this started as soon as I turned on my phone for the very 1st time trying to do the initial set up, plus like I said even pressing next/skip, power off or reset in the initial setup was a hassle. I had to take my pointer finger and point it down and press fast and many times like a woodpecker in order for the buttons functions to work and I could not even finish the initial setup and had to already do a factory reset before the initial setup was even finished on the 3rd device I have now. The phone is so bad that even clicking the home button some of the apps, Google search and weather is not on screen right away and takes second or 2 to show up, its lagging to show up.

3 different devices and still the same exact major things plus new things on each device are going on with the phone. Switching out the device should fix it all, but I guess this is not the case here. Plus about the wifi issues I'm in a XDA forum 13 pages long about the phones wifi not working(I know it says edge, but it's the same problems with the S6 and S6 edge so no difference)

My 1st phone which arrived on Sat came with G920VVRU1A0E2 out of the box.
Other than normal setups, and uninstalling Google Play Services and Google Play it has not had any problems.
Perhaps you should go into a store and show them how it is not working?

I did on launch day, I went back to the same corporate store a few hours later and got into a fight with the sales rep who sold me the phone a few hours earlier and the store GM because they were Ignorant because my phone was hot as fuc k at 90F and hotter and they said nothing was wrong. On top of that they even lied to me about having the edge devices in stock on launch day and even pulled out the normal S6 trying to trick me and it was not until I said something did he say oh this is not an edge and then said there was no edge's in stock, but while I was waiting in line I asked him and 2 other reps and they all said they had the white 64GB edge in stock. They rather lie to there customers to make a sale then tell the truth(at least this corporate store location), and then when you have problems with the phone they don't care to help you at all. Even 611 said this was very wrong and made a complaint on mine and 611's behalf on the corporate store and the sales rep.

Here is an update, as of recently my phone is getting really really hot and temperatures of 120F+ and even Verizon technical support saw that through their diagnostic system as it was actually on those temperatures at that very moment when they were looking. Also, from me just being tech savvy and Verizon technical support confirming it as well this phone is also supposed to have a safeguard in the phone and if it gets too hot the device is upposed to power off on its own, but apparently the safeguard is not working because when the phone gets very hot the battery starts flashing and in the middle of the screen it tells me the phone is very hot and it only lets me click OK. If I'm charging the phone the battery flashes and say the same thing but just adds unable to charge, & I can unplug the charger and immediately plug it back in to the phone and it will start charging again and then a few minutes later it will give me the same message. When it's doing that its not supposed to tell me anything it's supposed to just shut off and its not doing so.
So there overheating policy states that I have to bring my phone too a corporate store and they're going to replace the device right on spot. So Sunday I went to the corporate store to do that, but for some reason their system wouldn't allow them to process this because it didn't have an option to do it and the general manager and the store representative we're booth trying together for at least 45 minutes. They ultimately ended up just sending me a replacement device via Fedex to my house and when the phone arrives today(7-2) I have to bring the overheating device that I currently have to the store so they can do what they need to do to send it back because by law I'm not allowed to send an overheating device back. Verizon corporate store processed my order on Sunday and I was supposed to get the device on Tuesday but I'm getting it today due to inclement weather at the FedEx Memphis Tennessee hub and so Fedex at the Memphis Tennessee hub was at a complete standstill and my package was part of it.
Once I get my 4th replacement device and start using it for a while I will let you know how it's working
I was so sick of incomplete OS, I returned my device after only 3 days of usage..I wanted to keep it, but there was no guarantee of OS update in coming future. Current customized OS by BLU was very frustrating.

The Gold has gone out of stock and then back in stock while the Grey has remained out of stock the entire time. I called Blu's sales office again(who lied on release day about it being Amazon's fault) and again they said that it was Amazons fault and i needed to contact them to see when the phone would be available. These freakin people, how do you run a company like this?
I'm a phone junkie. I buy a new phone at least once a year and I've had many Android phones starting with the G1. I've rooted every single one of them except the Blu Pure XL. While I would prefer the control that root would give me this is still a good phone and a great value. I guess what I'm trying to say is I agree that Blu's support isn't great but that's the value proposition they're offering. You are not going to get phone hardware as good as this *and* good support at this price. It's just not possible for a company to offer that. I for one, am OK with supporting the phone myself if it means I can get hardware as good as this for half the price of what another company would charge. At the very least we're saving $200 (probably more). Are better support and software updates really worth paying $200+ more?
Yes, the software (Amigo Os) takes a little getting used to. There are some things missing from this build of Android but there are some features it has that standard Android doesn't that I like. Overall the software is not bad but just different. I for one don't need to be exactly the same as everyone else; I'm happy with the phone and expect to use it for a long time even if we never get root.
Not sure if I can live without root. I will install an AT&T Sim in the Pure XL on Saturday and test.
If I had root all the little OS problems will be resolved. Nice hardware but, the software needs work.

For me, this phone is complete enough and it's awesome for the price. I don't know what you mean by incomplete because it's awesome for me. I installed Go Launcher and it's awesome. 6in, high resolution, comes with 2 cases, great speakers for the price, microsd, otg cable, screen protector, fingerprint sensor, and no lag.
I am on the happy side too. I've gotten mostly used to the settings. I installed Google Now Launcher and it works for me. I got this phone for the dual SIM which is awesome. I would have spent this much for a new contract phone with my carrier phone anyway and probably had less memory and still had to keep carrying a second phone. This has a big display and I haven't even bothered to put my SD card back in yet. GPS has detected my location accurately, so no complaints there. Yes, I know updates are not the most timely from Blu by history. This phone off contract with a carrier if by the manufacturer would be like what $650, $700 easy? So I can't complain. This phone does its job in full for me, and I didn't even have to buy a case as it came with two and a screen protector too and headphones, plus quick charger and small USB cable too.

Anyone kind of wondering whether or not the Grey edition actually exists? Its now over a month since the 'launch' date, the gold unit has been in and out of stock several times on Amazon with no sign of the Grey aside from the "Temporarily out of stock" label that hasnt changed once. The way that they keep blaming Amazon when its clearly NOT THEIR FAULT really makes me wonder what a company like this is capable of. If the Grey unit never shows, and it was only the Gold all along, I guess i just wouldnt be surprised one bit at this point.
Come to think of it, I dont believe that ive seen any video reviews of this phone that werent the Gold version.
For $349 its a steal. I'm keeping mine even if they don't upgrade it or it never gets root.
I have it set up the way I need and only go into settings to enable tethering.

Honestly I've looked for several lockscreens and none support our fingerprint scanner I really hope its possible because I really love this phone but that's important to me
I went through the manual and didn't see how to change default apps. I don't see the option in settings. Also trusted devices options. Anyone know how to access these ?

Not sure where the menu choice is, but it randomly asks me if I want to set my watch as a trusted device. I'll poke around next time (it might happen when you first pair a device, i'll check that out). For default apps, if you go to the app's settings and scroll down to "Launch by default" and hit "Clear defaults" you can select a new default app and depending on the action it may prompt you to do that.

Unfortunately you can't do that for default music and email clients. It says no defaults set. I mostly use google music but when I press music in my car it starts default music app. It is annoying. Same thing for gestures. E and M will start default apps as well. Which is useless to me as I use nine for email because default email doesn't work with office 365 exchange mail.
Prompted to install a system update today. I hesitate as hopeful to obtain at least root if not bootloader unlock and don't want an update to stand in the way of that (eventual) process. Any thoughts on this 5/10/16 update from developers and any recommendation on whether it's harmless or perhaps that we should hold off... Thank you.
I would like to know the same

Its harmless because its an official update.
I looked it up and it said it is to improve the interface for visual voice mail, some changes to how you can enter airplane mode so you won't do it by accident, and allow display of data from the active exchange server, whatever that is. Nothing about security, but I would be skeptical. You never know what they might sneak into the update. It didn't sound like any big improvements so I didn't take it.

There's no reason not to take it.
I bought my G5 with the idea that the phone will NEVER be rooted or have an unlocked bootloader. Why? Because LG doesn't sell as well as Samsung or HTC or... and therefore has fewer developers working on unlocking/rooting and it's a very new phone, most newer phones have figured out how to permanently lock the bootloader and prevent rooting.
I certainly hope I'm wrong about this but.... :crying:
My Thunderbolt, Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4, M8 were bootloader unlocked, rooted and running TWRP and custom ROMs within an hour of getting them home so I had to think long and hard about buying a phone that I believe will never be unlocked or rooted but LG has nothing as horrible as TouchWiz or Sense and Nova Launcher make the phone suit my needs.
FWIW, I took the update yesterday and will take all future updates.

Hopefully @autoprime can take a look at it for us sometime and let us know the rollback situation with the new update. Until he lets me know its safe, I generally stay away!

12A KDZ is out.
You can download it HERE. And as always.. I try to add all KDZ's to http://bit.ly/lgkdzlist
12A does not pop a version fuse... so there should be no issues going back to 11A from 12A as far as I can tell. :good:
I experienced issues after the update that were not there prior to its installation. Double tap to wake became hit or miss, although double tap to sleep worked just fine. And the power button became glitchy as well. On several occasions I couldn't wake the phone with either method and attempted a long press of the power button in order to shut the phone down which would not work. All this after only having had the phone less than 24 hours. Needless to say it went back and a replacement was obtained.
Thus far no problems with the new device but I have yet to install the system update (12A) which has downloaded and is pestering me to run.

Is this your first android phone or something?
No, but seriously, Verizon sends out updates that f*ck things up all the time. Marshmallow ruined my G4 and lollipop ruined my S4. Plus, each update you take makes your chances of getting root that much slimmer, because if a dev has been working to root a phone for X amount of months, they've only been trying it with the software at the beginning of those X amount of months. A security patch could make root impossible until further dev work is done.

In regards to your power button issue, have you noticed that your phone is slower to wake when you have just locked it? If I shut my screen off and quickly flip it back on, there's a good 3+ second delay. Otherwise, doubletap to unlock and finger print to unlock are both pretty much instant if I count a good 2-3 "Mississippi"s ;P

With this G5 I've not experienced the issue you've described, or any of the other issues that plagued the first one I purchased. I've even installed the 12A update which I believed were responsible for the "doubletap" issues. There's no doubt in my mind now that the first device was defective.
The only problem I am experiencing at this point is this nagging sensation that I should give the HTC 10 a comparative look before the end of my 14 day evaluation period lol.
Please Help Me!!

I cleared the update by booting to the bootloader and wiping cache. It rebooted and then I cleared away the unsuccessful update message. Then using adb, I run the short command that @autoprime posted in his topic for all things LG G5. It hides the system update and I haven't got the prompt since.

hi
https://developers.google.com/android/images
Seems a little heavy for security only but I didn't find any descriptions when hitting the usual sites seeking the same. Guess we'll see...
Updated to may 2020 release and it broke my face unlock. had to call google for a replacement.......
But i still tried fixing this and i believe i may have found a fix, it worked for me anyway. I have an unlocked device so I already had the bootloader unlocked. I reverted the firmware all the way back to the very first release 10.0.0 (QD1A.190821.007, Oct 2019) and was able to set up device with a working face unlock on that release. Make sure to do a factory reset within the OS. After the device is completely set up I flashed the newest May 2020 update but I removed the -w from the flashall.bat so it would not wipe the device. I now have it working face unlock.
Just thought Id share. If anyone else has this issue hopefully this will help..
^^ this did not work for me ..
face unlock worked perfect for me
Is this caused by Android 11 DP3 face unlock broke
I did not have face unlock or any other issues, all went as usual. Install done via full imagine with wipe removed.

That's odd. I had the exact same problem with my 4 XL, and the April update. Google replaced it. I know a couple other people had the same issue, and got theirs replaced as well. I wonder what's is going on....

With how I was able to fix the issue I'm assuming it has to be some sort of software corruption issue. Man I do miss my fingerprint unlock...
Can anyone confirm whether this update has COVID contact tracing tools in the system menu? That stuff is creepy as hell, do not want.

Welcome to to NWO. I turn off my location services now. Google is already handing over all our locations data to big brother globally now. They’ve betrayed all our trust and privacy.
If you really want to know what will happen here, all the test runs are taking place in Wuhan. Their police forced them at check points to install a Covid tracking app. They’re currently going to test all 11 million residents there.

Just remember that is China he is talking about and that stuff is really going
on there. Of course it is, they have a communist government. I watch the special on it a while back and it was crazy how they had everyone like literally locked down. And yes they did have the tracker and there is a lot of shady stuff.. their internet homes is controlled so even their Facebook accounts they aren't allowed to talk about certain things or people have disappeared. Like when they try to investigate what's going on there or oppose anything at the government says. I mean of course they're locked down is very extreme and a bit too much but it also helped them to get it under control and to s certain extent, that is really the only way to.
Our "stay at home orders" were a joke and now they are already over. But anyways, so yeah just normal communism going on over there. They are just being China. It is not a "test run" for the rest of the world. We already know that Trump isnt very keen on following what other countries are doing anyways. We saw first hand how China and Italy quickly got overrun by the coronavirus and had to lock down. we saw how highly contagious it was and how fast it could spread, especially when nothing was done about it. They only way to stop it was to lockdown and we saw how that helped. Trump by no means wad going to follow. He still to this day won't even wear a mask and we all know why, because he associates it with all of the Chinese people wearing them and he's a racist, to just be blunt. We barely did much to try and control the outbreak anyways, I honestly wish things would get more strict here and maybe we would make some actual substantial progress. We just need to stay focused on the real things that are going on and try not to get lead astray by conspiracies and such that will only cause us more unnecessary anxiety and fear.
Ok so I have a good segue, so I just rooted and I'm on DP4 and tried to use magisk modules and had to reflash the system to get it working again.. so there's no known magisk modules that are working on DP4 right now?

Well for Google sending an update soon for an embedded Covid tracker is concerning. Especially since they’ve giving this information over to our local governments, CDC, and WHO.
I recently reverted back to full stock, and relocked my bootloader. If and when this new Covid NWO tracking system gets pushed to our phones, I’ll unlock again, root, and delete all that NWO crap. We are the resistance aka, “”.
