Is there a way to fully disable/freeze android device manager? - General Questions and Answers

Android 9.0
Rooted with magisk and twrp installed.
I know it can be disabled in security and lockscreen settings. But it very often re enables itself.
I can't see any independent system app which might be responsible for it.
Is it a part of play services? Can i disable any individual service of play services using tools like servicely to freeze device manager?
Any other ideas?

Please read the post again. I have already mentioned that the method you are suggesting is a temporary one. It often re enables itself on its own.

Is it possibly re-enabling when you reboot? Maybe enabling itself is part of the boot process due to the possibilty that other selections you've made/set in device/security settings are overriding the fact that you turned it off prior to any subsequent reboot.

Debloater 3.7 released

Just letting everyone know of a tool I wrote for both rooted and non-rooted(KitKat) devices. So if your running 4.4.x you can still block all applications even from receiving updates, etc.. Most other apps will not even show the applications in their lists once the tool is run against your device. It is completely safe and will not trip Knox, etc..

This has already been done:

Unless you have a script that is lollipop specific (not done yet...) your tool is redundant and less than useful.

My application is far from a script. It is a full application that will work with any release if rooted. If not rooted, it will work native with KitKat, It will also remove all associated data as well with removal, if rooted, and supports Xposed framework as well.
so its pc software to disable system apps? why not just disable them on the device?
either way, nice work (i do not know how to make a exe lol)

Thank you. Well, it doesn't just disable apps. Also, most apps you cannot disable on the device without installing some more apps to do it on the device. I am a person who likes less apps on my device. So when I was building this, I thought, do I want to install something to remove something on my device ? Agree to all the access privileges, take up more space, etc ?? So I wrote this.. It will also remove apps and delete all associated data with the app. if rooted. Allow people to share blocked lists and allow you to import and export blocked and unblocked lists as well as many other things.

yea, options are always good.. i for one would rather have a rom without the bloat to begin with lol. you can disable most system apps without root in the application manager so you only need to install lets say tibu on rooted devices to remove them but to me tibu is essential for any rom

Can't allow root for apps

Recently I have updated to the newest version of Lineage OS on my Moto G (2015) and Nexus 7 (2013), however ever since I did this, it has made the option to allow apps to access root has disappeared from the menu. You can only allow ADB access or disable it altogether. How would I go about fixing this problem? Any help is useful. Thanks
Is Lineage OS pre-rooted? They may have removed that feature in the recent update which would mean you would have to root it.

It's rooted, they just don't have the option to allow apps to have root access in developer options.

It is pre-rooted, you just have to flash the suaddon corresponding to your device architecture from here. download.lineageos.org/extras
It wasn't pre-rooted for me but I did install the newest version of SuperSU (2.79 SR3). Also how would I go about allowing root for apps if it's not in the developer options and the pop-up asking me to allow it doesn't come up?

Something like Xposed-RootCloak for Pie

Anyone know of a way to have the phone report it is not rooted like you could with Xposed/Rootcloak?

Have you tried magisk hide?
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Yes. It still seems to have issues app wise. Maybe the app is installing some module I don't know of? I grab the app off of the play store, mark it in MagiskHide and then install Outlook on top of that and mark it in MagiskHide. It still reports root.

Does magisk show that your phone passes the safety net check?
Have you used the feature to hide the Magisk manager app? It renames the package so other apps don't know it is installed. Apps don't need special permissions to retrieve installed package names, Pokemon go won't work unless you do that. Also, it tended to not work if you had a folder by the name of Magisk even though it didn't have storage permissions it would get a different error if the file was there vs not there.

any debloat guide or list?

Tried debloating a few things in terminal with magisk module and apparently broke something and dirty flashed to get it back is there any guide or list for debloating 8T? Hopefully the TMO variant

Best way is :
> REMOVE using ADB, edit your list and copy/past for remove all unwanted apps
https://technastic.com/oneplus-bloatware-list-oxygen-os-debloater/
I advice to select only things that you know
or
> FREEZE unwanted apps using "Disable Application" or "Titanium Backup Pro"
Advantage to only freeze apps is after an OTA, all apps keep freezed, not if you have removed them

I too have the T-Mobile model, and while I have my bootloader unlock token I have yet to actually pull the trigger on rooting, so for now I'm using ADB to disable or delete s**t apps. Be careful with what you disable or uninstall. Both links below suggest using an app called App Inspector so you can find the app's package name, but this app is doubly helpful because you can use it to download a copy of the system app APK for a backup, in case your phone decides it's not happy with what you have done.
-App Inspector Play Store Link:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ubqsoft.sec01
-This link is a guide to disable built-in apps (NOT to delete/uninstall, simply disable, so the app is still there but dormant until you re-enable).
https://www.xda-developers.com/disable-system-app-bloatware-android/
-This link is a guide on how to fully uninstall/delete apps though.
https://www.xda-developers.com/uninstall-carrier-oem-bloatware-without-root-access/
I personally used the uninstall guide to get rid of the built-in "GameSpace" app & my phone has been fine (I play ZERO games ever). I noticed GameSpace was basically running constantly & using up battery on standby even though I've never used it. My standby battery drain is much better...thanks T-Mobile & OnePlus!
I use jOnePlus Tools from the Play Store for forcing screen refresh rates universally already (although AutoHz is a great option too!), using ADB to enable it because I don't yet have root. It also provides the option to disable "OnePlus Analytics" if you have root, but if you don't it gives you the ADB shell commands to do it without root.

Are there any guides for Mac users? I know that we don't use the command but use the terminal... but I'm not sure

Question Starting up fresh and planned mods

Hey guys, I've posted a lot of questions in different threads throughout the P7P forum. I have bookmarked posts and threads that offered important information and instructions, but I wanted to start a thread to aggregate all the information and instructions. I am coming from a P2XL. I have titanium backup, but I've never successfully restored from it. I see a lot of discussion about swift backup on these forums now. I have already purchased titanium backup, so if I can use that to restore apps and data from my P2XL to my P7P I'd like to do that instead of buying another app.
Here's what I'd like to use:
1.) substratum for swiftblack. Can AOSP mods do this?
2.) adaway. I see some people mentioning adguard, but I don't want a subscription service.
3.) I really want something that enables sweep to sleep. I'm a big believer in saving the mechanical power button by not using it. sweep to sleep allows for this and is handier anyway.
4.) backup and restore capability whether through titanium backup or swiftbackup
5.) xprivacy lua (no experience with this, but as big tech and government spying increases I want this protection). If this functions correctly this may become one of my favorite parts about rooting.
6.) free google photos forever backup (spoof device as a pixel). which lsposed or magisk module does this?
7.) youtube revanced
8.) button mapper
9.) legacy power button options
10.) Viper4android. Someone said an app called "wavelet" is more stable and functioning. It does all the same stuff as v4a including making volume louder which is the main reason I use v4a.
11.) Perhaps above all I want complete stock functionality of my device through successful hiding of root. I need to be able to use banking apps and google pay. Will the above listed modules prevent that?
What is your experience with all of these and advice you may have for installing and maintaining them through updates? Is this list too extensive? A few years ago when I was messing around with rooting my P2XL the general guidance was to not install too many mods and apps because they begin to conflict and cause issues that lead to bootloops.
Here's the game plan for when the pixel arrives. First, is this the best spot to get the latest ADB and fastboot tools?
1.) Flash the latest OTA update from google.
2.) Follow the XDA-provided guides to unlock the bootloader and root
3.) "Start" the phone for first with all the necessary work done for a rooted device, allow the device to restore apps and app data from the google backup I complete on my current P2XL.
4.) finish the installation of magisk per the XDA guiedes listed above in step 2.
5.) install the mods and modules listed above. Install and reboot one at a time, so if one causes an issue (bootloop) it will be very easy to isolate and determine which one is the culprit.
Can anyone offer links on guides on how to recover from a bootloop or issue? I saw something on XDA about uninstalling a problematic module by booting to safe mode. Unfortunately it was before I started bookmarking and saving threads and posts on XDA. In the past I think I handled this by using a magisk manager for twrp, but as we all know TWRP doesn't exist for the P7P.

Best to ask in the [MOD][Xposed+Magisk][Pre-Release] AOSP Mods thread. I use Pitch Black through it, but I don't know anything beyond that, and I don't think that mod has any relationship to Substratum.

I see cleanslate kernel config and cleanslate kernel companion in the Google play store. Neither apps' description lists being able to control or toggle sweep to sleep. I didn't see any in-app screenshots showing the option either. Which one manages the sweep to sleep functionality? Either kernel will enable sweep to sleep? Also, is there any way to enable sweep to sleep without flashing a kernel? I have read through one of the kernel threads. The process to flash a kernel including disabling verity and all the issues people were reporting made me think I wasn't going to do a custom kernel on this phone. It was a lot easier on the past on the p2xl with twrp. Flashing a kernel looks daunting though.

I don't remember - best, you should ask in one of the two kernel threads. I'm not using a custom kernel right now because I don't want to have to factory reset, since I haven't disabled Verity and Verification yet.

Yes. Like I said, Kirisakura kernel is based on CleanSlate. It's the base CleanSlate (Kirisakura includes) that has the S2S feature, which you can configure using the appropriate app.

I've never heard of another way. You can do something like it with some third-party replacement launchers like Nova Launcher Prime which I use - in which you can make many custom gestures, but it's not going to be exactly like S2S no matter what.
Personally, I overall prefer [MOD][Xposed+Magisk][Pre-Release] AOSP Mods' option to double-tap status bar to sleep.

I don't know what issues you're referring to. I have kept up with every single post in all three custom kernel threads. If you disable them and follow the rest of the instructions, such as to re-disable them every time you update or just flash the phone's firmware, there's no issue.
Flashing the kernel itself is even easier than with TWRP. You don't have to boot into TWRP, you can use a reliable app like [DEV] Kernel Flasher.
Not trying to convince you either way. If you don't want to, then don't.

Thanks. I'll read through entirely instead of a few pages here and there. The double tap to sleep sounds reasonable. Perhaps I'll try that.
