Hello XDA,
Just got off the phone with google, and found out that the issue with the popping noise in videos is not something they can fix via software . Google Engineers have recommended swapping out the whole device as there is no known fix via software for this issue...
What is even worse is that in order for you to receive a replacement they are asking for a pre-authorization charge on a card until they receive their defective device back.... Like we asked for a defective device....
i do understand the concern of them not getting their phone back but dang... that Sucks!!
Edit *
If anyone will the pixel 4 XL can reproduce the problem on their phones that would be great I want to know if this is happening to a lot of phones or simply to some..
record audio through an app and see if the popping noise happens or record a video using SnapChat Instagram Facebook and see if it happens if it does I feel that Google should acknowledge this and try to fix this as soon as possible
Popping noise in video?
Can you post an example?

According to them, yes . I was promised that I would not encounter the same issue with the next version that I got. I do recall the same thing happening with the blue hue on the 2 xl . it wasn't necessarily revision it was just one that was better than the other but the underlying issue was still there..
Hmm that's interesting. I was able to reproduce it with an Instagram story. I only record videos in the stock app but maybe I'll save getting a replacement for 1 year so that I can get a fresher battery. [emoji1]

I actually recorded just audio on Facebook messenger through the microphone recording option and it does it on there as well it's not just video whatever is recording is adding that sound.. at first I thought it was just audio but after hearing the recording I just did I realize that it might be something in the input driver that's messed up.. not necessarily having to do with video but probably with the neural core processing more important tasks like the Google Assistant's built in functionality.
crap i just checked my p4xl on snapchat and noticed the popping noise too. guess when i was using the past 2 weeks i always had a lot of background noise anyway to notice
Glad to see people are talking about this on here. I always assumed it as was going to be a software fix as I swapped my 4XL 2 days ago to "fix it" but it wasn't fixed, guess we have to wait for a new batch. argh
It doesn't happen on the stock camera recording app and it doesn't happen on some third party apps. It probably is a software issue that can be addressed with a patch in the future. I really would take what Google Support tells you with a grain of salt. I swapped out a device for another reason and they both had the popping noise on some third party apps and never on the stock camera app recording. You probably will get another one with the same issue as I highly doubt they made a hardware revision and the rep was probably just telling you what you wanted to hear to get you off the phone. I've heard it all before "Oh, we'll have someone in the warehouse check for it before we ship it out". Replacement comes and it has the same issue and you know it's all BS they tell you.
I could reproduce this error with an Instagram story. However this did not occur with WhatsApp voice messages. Maybe it is really a software issue?
Like the YouTube audio description says it happens on my playground mode while recording playground video.

true, its happening my side on instagram story, recording from the stock camera is fine, whatsapp is fine too
I have this popping noise on video as well. The only time I have noticed it is when I use Snapchat, but it's annoying as hell. P4XL here.

Pixel 4 defect mic pop/click
I have the pixel 4, and it also makes the popping/clicking sound. I send it in for a replacement with google and the new one does it too. Now I have to return both, and stay with the pixel 3 for now. They almost didn’t let me return the replacement because I bought the original on release date from them and we are in November now.
Sounds happens, on Tiktok, Snap, Facebook and anything That recorded sound.

Complete noob here so maybe I've missed something glaringly obvious, but how do you make a video call with the one s? I can't find any option for it and a google search only brings up ways to do it using an app or skype. My video call time comes out of my monthly calling minutes so when I'm travelling it makes sense to use it rather than skype as I have a capped data allowance and more minutes than I need.
Thanks
when you are calling someone, check options... is there any option for video call?

Nope, nothing there to initiate a video call. And then when in call I cannot find any option to turn on the camera for a video call. I've looked and looked (before and during a call) but I can't find any option to do so.
Ok I emailed HTC and asked and their response was:
I’m sorry to hear that you are experiencing difficulties with making a video call.
I believe that the reason for this is because the phone does not make video calls via the normal phone function. It makes video calls using 3rd party software e.G. Skype etc. But as we do not support 3rd party software I would be unable to help you set this up. I apologise for any inconvenience caused.
Bit of a disappointment personally, but I suppose video calling isn't very popular so most people won't care. Still, was it really that difficult to add a video calling option/function?
But if your phone did support it, and not through a 3rd party app using internet, The receiver would also have to have the same set up right ?
And video calling isnt that popular.. Can you not speak with your provider and see if they can change the video call allowance into internet allowance instead ? Then you could use a 3rd party app like skype... Much more popular

LOL! Making phone with 2nd camera and not even bothering to add software option for video call? HAHHA Thats just lame! But I guess its for most "android" phones.

Yes, but whilst I'm no expert, most phones I have come across with front facing cameras do support video calling and more importantly the people who I would be calling have this option on their phones.
Not to worry though, not a major issue. Just seemed a bit odd to me to put a front facing camera on there and not support it without a 3rd party app. I can manage and with all the free wifi hotspots I get access to through my package it shouldn't be a big issue.
i totally agree, It is a bit stupid to have the FFC, if they wernt gunna support video calls, they could have removed the camera and added something else instead.
like a external sd slot. or a laser beam what kills people... who knows ?
I dont use video calling, I hate people looking at me im the sort of dude that walks in the shadows with a hood covering my face lol
Setup a Google Voice account and then you can do video calls to other users over Google Talk.
I was able to initiate a video call to the wife's One S using Google Talk on my Samsung Note 2 with no problem but the front camera image quality of the HTC is so bad the feature is useless. I found this thread while searching to see if others had better results. The image on the HTC is dark and grainy on the phone's own screen and is so pixilated after being transmitted to mine it totally useless , the Samsung's is crystal clear.

Fanboy maybe...of the iPhone type perhaps?
Considering they are the only mfgs to add said software.
Goggle+ works great and so does google voice which is a preinstalled app of android systems...
Which means making your post is a waste of time

The front camera isn't actually that had. You just have to try to remove some dust from it. It's terrible design to hide the camera down there, it gets full of dust in no time

I've noticed that when recording video on my Nexus 5 that the audio is low and has Static. Is this a defect that I should start a RMA on? My phone is completely stock
So after I talked with Google and they had me do a Factory Reset on my phone, it has fixed the issue with the static. I still think that the phone is recording the audio to low, but it is better than it was before.

Are you SURE it's fixed? There are many, many people with this issue. (http://goo.gl/XdnwGY) I've done factory reset, custom ROMs, covering top mic, different 3rd party camera apps....nothing fixes it.
Apparently Google is looking into it, but I for one am pissed and get more pissed by the day.

I have read that a lot of people are having a similar issue and while the Static is not there anymore I do get a Low hiss from the audio which was there before as well. Now there is no static and I can hear the recorded audio clearly. Its not perfect, but it is better than it was. I am still Stock
As the title suggests we (at least those who N5) had to upgrade to the camera of google. For heaven's sake in this post is not to say, you no good bad etc. .. But I want to put an attention on the video. You doing various tests from yesterday to today I noticed (unfortunately) an annoying noise in the video is that in FHD 480p. The bug or problem, call it what you want, persists in all kinds of resolution that you put. Arises especially in confined spaces, such as a room or whatever at home, standing in silence and making a normal recovery. Below I have uploaded a little video to show you Yuotube on this issue. To you a review!
Edit: obviously the video was shot in 1080p, this should sentisi more noise or background noise.

In fact, restoring an old bakup I noticed that in the old version the problem persists. As you said the bug there for months. Hopefully with the update 4.4.3 solve.

I really want someone else to give this a go and report back, I unitentionally fixed this problem by flashing a slim rom hdr+ bug fix. The file I flashed was this one http://www.slimroms.net/index.php/d...-4/10260-slim-google-camera-compatibility-fix
Maybe a strange coincidence, anyone else fancy giving it a shot?

Hi, I have a problem with my Pixel, I want to know if this is normal or if anyone else has the same problem.
When I play video on this phone (no matter what app) it stutters the first 1 or 2 seconds of the video and then plays normally.
I encounter this problem in every app. Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Google Photos, Snapchat, etc.
It's no big deal but it becomes specially irritating when viewing Instagram Stories or Facebook short videos, because it stutters and won't play normally and I can't really see what's going on in the video.
It is just a playback issue, because the videos recorded by the Pixel play perfectly on other devices.
I have tried factory image flashing, I've tried Oreo 8.0, 8.1 and even 9.0 Pie and nothing seems to work.
Some time ago I've unlocked the bootloader and flashed custom ROMs and the problem wasn't present on those. But I like this Google ROM more than those.
This is so annoying, I've had like 3 Android phones in my life and they all have had similar problems. I don't want to switch to an iPhone again!
Can somebody help me out?
Just to acknowledge, I have this problem since day one on Oreo, and now on Pie. I thought every device was like this. ****.

I think it's not an issue on XL devices, but I'm starting to believe it's a common issue on normal Pixels
I don't have another Pixel to test. Do you? I would like to know how much of a problem this is.

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, that's what I said, I don't think this is an issue on XL devices, but I think it is a common one on normal Pixel 2s.
I just noticed this stutter isn't present when media volume is all the way down. So annoying.
I love my pixel 3a, even the front camera selfies (even though it has a fixed focus). The phone takes awesome pictures, also with the front camera.
However, during video call (whatsapp or snapchat), the video quality is very very very bad. I mean like there is water in the lens or something or it just can't focus or its trying to smooth out everything till infinity. I don't get how this is possible. I know android doesn't have the best social media camera (compared to iphone, which is better optimized), but my galaxy s8 is doing whatsapp and snapchat video's just fine and in focus.
Other people have experience with this? it's really a pity, because it's the only thing i really dislike at the moment.
Any help would be appreciated.
With kind regards

Just updated to the July patch. Unfortunately still have the same problem. I guess we're just unlucky and it's somehow a hardware issue. I can't imagine that the rest of the pixel 3a owners have the same thing but aren't bothered by it. I read on reddit of one guy who was talking about blurry front camera, but after phone was replaced the problem was gone.
I've had the same problem! My build number is QQ2A.200501.001.B2. I just got a new Pixel 3a as the last camera just died, but it was also an issue on the previous Pixel 3a as well.
Any news on this? I've found several threads on Google support sites regarding this issue but they've ve all been closed without a solution. There must be more people with this issue though and I'm not sure at the moment if this is a hardware issue or not.
Since last night we're in a serious lockdown here in the Netherlands and this is becoming a dealbreaker, cause the front camera is our most used lifeline with friends and family.
I'm on RQ1A.201205.003 and using WhatsApp for video calls.
Edit: see for example this thread from Google support: https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/63843045?hl=en
