Is there any possible way to install 90hz refresh mod ( present in Oneplus 7t ) on our Oneplus 7 ?
Is our OP7 supports that?
I saw some xiaomi flagships has such mods installed but why not in OP7 till now?
Any good reason?
Does it has anything to do with Fluid Amoled display?
Nonsense, it's hardware related, op7 screen only capable 60hz

Do you know how to do it? Any links or posts or topics ?
There are quite a few 60hz refresh rate phones that can use the 90hz refresh rate. Currently I have not found a way to open the 90hz refresh rate on Oneplus 7. I tried this app to turn on the 90hz refresh rate, because Oneplus 7 has no DTBO, it has not been successfully opened 90hz. But this is not due to hardware.
I request any developer to develop a mod for 90hz refresh rate for our op7 or provide a process to do so that i will test on my phone..
I'm pretty sure there's a way to increase the refresh rate.
What we'll need to find out, when a Dev actually looks into that, is how stable is it, and by how much? And will it be convenient enough (battery, durability).
I really hope that the screen is actually as good as OP7T
Any news about that?

The app has been updated, but it still does not work for OnePlus 7.
There are many factors here.
For example: Mi 9 uses an 85Hz panel underclocked to 60Hz, that's the reason why this type of mods can easily enable this feature without any side effects (Ignoring the extra energy consumption of course), I don't know how Redmi K20/Mi9T screen is, but I assume it will be something similar.
Another important thing to keep in mind: OnePlus uses command-mode to control the panel (this method precludes any external modification that is attempted over the panel controller) while Xiaomi for some strange who-knows-reason uses video-mode (If I'm not wrong, Xiaomi is the only manufacturer that uses this method in high-end devices with OLED panels), and basically this method facilitates modifications to the the different dtbo's/panel controllers.
I don't want to break anyone's hopes, but currently I don't think anyone outside Samsung has the ability to change the refresh rate of this panel, these screens were strongly designed to work this way and only in this way.

I just saw an article that mentioned a mod for the Xiaomi MI 9 that allegedly unlocks a higher refresh rate for the display (84 Hz). So naturally I was wondering, is there a way to do something similar with the XZ3? The displays have pretty much the same specs.

If i remember correctly all SODP supported xperias have a 120hz display running in 60hz (?) on stock and sodp.
I don't know if all of these have the hardware power to support it, but there are people working in it at the sodp project, so sodp based custom ROMs can support it.
But please don't ask for an ETA
the stock firmware is a different story I can't answer.

XZ3 is probably different from the Xperias preceding it as it has an OLED screen. The 120Hz Xperias have an LCD screen.

Not gonna happen. Not sure why Samsung didn't include a 90hz screen, since they make the screen 90hz for OP, and the upcoming pixel 4.

Brightness, overall image quality, battery life. These appear to be the main reasons. Yeah the OP7 Pro has a higher refresh rate but don't be fooled, it's nowhere near as good as far as image quality and brightness. I guess it's up to personal preference.

Considering the OnePlus 7 Pro's display brightness spec is supposed to max out at around 820 nits while the note 10+ can reach 1300... you either got a special phone that no one has seen or you're full of crap.

People that leave their home and walk under that incredibly bright thing that we call "sun".
Hi all,
I am thinking of buying a new Smartphone. In my country Realme 5 Pro 8GB/128GB and Redmi Note 8 Pro 6GB/128GB are similarly priced. I am really really confused between these two.
Which one should I pick?
You expert opinions are required.
Thanks in advance.
No-one yet?
I am more inclined towards Realme 5 Pro basically due to SD712, Sony Camera Sensor and 8GB Ram Variant.
Currently I am using Realme 3. I don't like Color OS and Camera App. But I have heard that Realme will be providing its own UI with stock like experience. Is it true? And is there any changes in Stock Camera App expected?
Well that's a tough decision. I just bought RM5P 8/128 GB. Have used Xiaomi for about 4+ years and was happy with performance and software. Xiaomi provides lot of power packed software feature and highly customizable UI. But having used for more than 4 years, I was bored with MIUI, so I thought of switching to something relatable.
After I got my hands on RM5P, I was disappointed with the software and less customizable UI, but man, I have no words for the performance and camera. I am glad I made a good decision switching to this as this one has power packed hardware features which no brand has given in this price range. Hopefully, the software will be improved progressively.
My advice: If you have never used Xiaomi, go for Redmi Note 8 pro. Else go for RM5P. You will be happy with both.
Currently using Realme 5 pro(6GB Variant). To be honest, Redmi Note 8 pro looks more premium with its glass back. Realme 5 pro does look somewhat premium but nowhere close to Redmi Note 8 pro. The Redmi has a faster CPU and GPU but I heard some issues with overheating( and I don't have faith in Mediatek). In the realme, I have not encountered any overheatiing isues till now. But playing PUBG for longer periods makes the phone a little bit warm which is completely normal. If you want a phone for heavy gaming go with POCO F1, this phone is way better in terms of performance but looks kinda outdated( I regret not buying it). If you want a premium feeling device go for Redmi Note 8 Pro & if you want a overall better device go for Realme 5 pro.
Thanks, and what about Camera performance?

I just bought Realme 5 Pro 4/128 variant after (and still) owning Realme 3 Pro 6/128. I have considered Redmi Note 8 Pro before buying, but at the end I chose Realme. Here is why:
- Photography is the most important factor for me, thus I was looking for a phone with Qualcomm SOC because it will have Gcam mod for it. But then I saw on youtube lately that gcam mod also has been made available for RN8 Pro with mediatek chipset, but unfortunately the stock camera is still better than the Gcam on that phone. In case you don't know, the right Gcam variant with the right settings on Realme 3/5 Pro is amazing. I have compared it with my friend's Galaxy S9 and S10 and it put them both to shame when you examine the detail side by side at 1:1 zoom. Gcam on realme even manage to equal or beat my mirrorless M4/3 panasonic gx85!
- I read that RN8 Pro has touchscreen issues that still has not been fixed till now.
For me, ColorOS is ok. It has very aggressive RAM / battery management that often closing running apps eventhough there is still plenty of available RAM. So I just turned off the power saving feature (called 'Smart Power Saver') and use 'custom power saver' that allows you to set background running permission individually for each of your apps that you know shouldn't be close automatically like gps sport tracking app in my case. In app management setting screen you can also specify that certain apps are allowed to do auto start. You can also locked the app in the recent app screen so that it won't be closed. Unfortunately that setting is not persistent and only work until the next restart.
I'd never prefer an mtk powered device over an SD one. Just look at rm8p xda development forum and here. Words are quite unnecessary.

Well, as you wish but rooting and custom stuff can noticeably lengthen your device's life span and raise performance, lower battery consumption. Idk why would anyone willingly not want these but it's up to you. Even if you don't count these a SD powered device is mostly better choice for base lifespan of chipset is longer and features to add later are most of time more available for SD devices rather than mtk.

I have also come to know that Xiaomi Has released Source Code or something like that which will be very helpful for development. Actually I read it on XDA review. They also wrote that they have shipped few RN8 Pro to devs for active development. Although Development Section of RN8 Pro seems very inactive as compared to Realme 5 Pro section.
Most Probably anyone buying phone is this range will be buying a new phone after one year so Longer Life Span of phone is just not required if it can live for one year with its performance intact (Which I have doubt about due to mediatek).
Most of the people will never use Rooting and stuff on their phones even if the stuff is available for their phones (I Guess). But it is always nice to have support for your device. It is a plus but not a negative in my view.

Hey guys,
Just a maybe stupid but not completely impossible idea: is there a way to over clock the screen to more than 90hz? maybe 120hz ?LOL
"Not completely impossible": i remember xiaomi mi9t (k20) has a setting and was to over clocked to 75hz on a 60hz screen.
Hope this is doable.
Update: link in my post below.
I think you can't
To back up me question, here is the link to screen overclocking thread for mi 9t/9t pro
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-9t/themes/mod-overclock-screen-to-75hz-refresh-t3951339
Pretty sure you could only overclock the Mi9T panel because it used a cheaper panel. Oneplus phones have never seen success overclocking past stock.
I know this has been done with other phones. Manufacturers are software capping these panels and hoping they don't eat into their more pricey devices (ie pixel 6/ 6 pro) by performing these anti-consumer practices. It would be grealyt appreciated if we can get higher than pathetic 60hz in 2022.
"pathetic" 60hz is good enough for 85% of people who would by this phone.

Only thing is I think more like 95%. Anyone concerned that much wouldn't buy the phone. But a 6.1" device... ahh heaven. Never again will I get anything larger.
usually the way refresh rate is done on devices is hardware. Its not like your computer monitor where you can overclock it. There are hardware limits.
Nothing google has done on the 6a is "anti-consumer" because the screen won't go over 60hz...
You can't make a 60Hz screen run at 90Hz, but you can make a 90Hz screen run at 60Hz to save battery life.
Odds are Google put a 60Hz screen in the phone to cut down on the overall cost. If they put in a 90 Hz screen, they would have marketed it as such because more people would be attracted to the phone with that feature.

Exactly. "Overclocking" a display panel is difficult at best, impossible at worst. If you want a 90Hz screen, buy a Pixel 6. Don't buy a mid range device and expect premium features.
Hmmm????

There would be two reasons to throttle the refresh rate; Battery Life and Thermal issues.
120Hz would be insane but I'd gladly take 90Hz...
In case some of u haven't heard...
Ongoing Pixel 6a 90Hz display testing shows better success
The Pixel 6a 90Hz mod still isn't public, but you've got more reasons to be optimistic about it now
www.androidpolice.com
It may take some but this moder is known for boosting refresh rates.
He also said the 6a panel is made by Samsung and is capable 120Hz refresh rates. The story mentions...
"The current solution also requires manually flashing an image to one of the system partitions, which means unlocking your bootloader, breaking SafetyNet, etc., so it could be too big of a pain for most of our readers to attempt."
Oh my!! You mean that shady and back-breaking act of unlocking, rooting and breaking SaftyNet...which can be fixed with a simple Magisk mod!? It's easy to see that AP knows who 'butters it's bread' with tons of advertising...

Three. Keep the distance to the Pixel 6.
I have only turned my pixel 5 to 90hz maybe a dozen times since owning since release day. I turn it on to play once 6a came out and honestly, 60hz is fine, but everyone different.
I'd just wait for the Pixel 7 if 90hz is a huge issue. Or get a P5 or P5a or P6
Many a good Pixel to choose from.
As it seems when someone express a wish on this thread, it come true... Soooo, what about breaking that 18W charging limit ?

Big NO..
Don't do it.. You might set your apartment on fire..
Looks like the cry babies got their wish of 90hz. I almost wish you hadn't. Its such a dumb thing to complain so heavily about.
Even if it did support 90hz out of the box, 3 of my spare phones support up to 120, and i run them at 60. anything above 60 on such a small screen just personally makes me dizzy.
Hope most of you realize its more than likely a dangerous overclocking game that will wear out the display far more quickly.
Most people don't have dizzy issues tho. You prefer 60...that's just fine, but don't rag on other for wanting the best experience possible...esp from a mid-ranger with a flagship processor! Smh...

its the way they complained. Idc what people do or don't enjoy... I'm ragging on it because of the way they IMMEDIATELY complained about a BUDGET DEVICE not having a high end device feature, and demanding hackers/modders find a way to do it. And its definitely not equal to a flagship processor.
The Tensor is the same as in the Pixel 6 Pro...a flagship device.
I agree tho...there were 2 separate threads started, like right off the bat, that shoulda been combined imo and yeah it was annoying...
Being a root/mod user and a PC builder on a budget, I guess I am a bit partial... I'm always tryin' to squeeze the BBB outta everything I build/buy. (oh, BBB=Best Bang for the Buck)
With a PC it's easy, if u want better gfx, you buy a better gfx card. If you want faster load times, you get a faster chipset...and so on.
But with a phone you're stuck. U have to buy smart and choose well. For me, the 6a is the best (phone) buy/upgrade I've ever made, coming from a P4a even.

Sigh.... Yes I'm correct. A bunch of fools in this thread. I've overclocked countless TV and monitors past their advertised refresh rate.
I hope 90Hz will be released in future hentaiOS build. Best solution would be to have it as Magisk module or custom kernel though
any news about this ?
