Two app as navigatior? - MTCD Android Head Units Q&A

I use an app to notify me of the speed cameras, the problem is that it uses a tts engine to tell the warnings and these are heard very loose and mixed with the sound of the radio, if I select the tts engine as a navigation app already It works fine, but then I have the problem with Google Maps ...
Is there any way to put two aps for navigation simultaneously, I have seen some rom that does it, but I would like to do it with the stock.
Thank you.

Sprint Navigation or Google Navigation?

What does everyone use? What do you think are the pros/cons of each? I have given up on sprint nav for google, but not sure if im loosing anything.
I use google nav
I like the fact that if i search from an address i can just open gmaps and place in to nav so i dont have to copy and past the address into sprint nav
Im not sure if it you lose any features but i dont think you do
I used both, and Sprint Nav to me is by far the better app. Better UI and better turn by turn directions. I use an app called near me to find addresses and the app alows you to navigate via Sprint Nav.
Google maps because of satellite view, much faster rerouting and because the search for things actually works.

While I would MUCH rather prefer to use Google, I've found it slow while navigating. It sometimes takes a few seconds for your location to update after you've turned and those seconds can be very important. I don't have this issue with Sprint Nav.
I use google nav. It works well enough. Navigation isn't all that important to me, tbh.
google because I can tell my phone "navigate to pizza"
I actually haven't used Sprint Navigation in quite a while but I like Google Navigation.
Then again I used to like Sprint Navigation before so I guess I like both but can't pick one over the other.
No comparison, I have used both a lot and Google Navigation is far superior. When you make a wrong turn it recalculates immediately where Sprint sometimes takes forever. Doing a voice search to a location is so very easy, just say Navigate to xxxxx. Then is never a doubt about what exit to take because is will say everything on the exit sign, like Take exit 29A, Main St, St Rd 100. 100% Google Navigation.
I have to say that google navigation is better than sprint navigation but it doesn't have a way to edit for construction on the route now once they add that it will be 100% complete

I use both, like both but rely on the Garmin Zumo 550. Works in car, boat and my Harley.

I enjoy them both but I'd have to say I like Sprint Nav the most.
Well, I think you'll miss three important things:
1. Search gas by price.
2. Very accurate and updated traffic guide. Sometimes you get stuck in some road and you don't have any options other than being late.
3. Customizing your route. Like shorter faster avoid tolls and other stuff.
Still, I myself prefer Google maps because it is a lot easier and of course it uses the perfect service, Google...

I prefer Google Nav for several reasons, but I think the most important that has not been mentioned yet is that it has never told me to "make a legal u-turn".
google maps, wrong adresses?
I have noticed that google maps returns a bogus adress when I search for places. Has anyone experienced this in google maps?

[Q] Switch from HTC Locations to Google Maps for default navigation

Hi all.
I have recently had to hard reset my phone. Prior to that when I clicked on a location from a calendar event, it would trigger Google Maps and Navigation automatically.
Since the reset now when I try the same thing, it triggers the HTC Locations navigation instead.
IMO Google Maps and Navigation is better and I prefer it if only for the turn by turn and voice instructions.
Can anyone advise on the best way - without rooting my phone - to set Google Maps and Navigation to be the default for navigation call across my phone?
I have already tried to "Clear Defaults" but the option is greyed out for all the Locations apps and Google Maps too.
My phone is a vanilla HTC ROM without any modifications. I was able to use Google Maps as the default before the hard reset.
Please note I don't want to root my phone, nor do I want to use HTC Locations.
Thanks in advance
Same issue here, any thoughts anyone?
The only way I could fix that was when I had a custom rom (root access) and I deleted the apk's for locations, then google maps was the default.
Now I am without root on the HTC Sensation, I cant do that.
I am just about to call HTC and ask them how to make google maps the default.
If every one who does not like it calls them and complains, I am sure they will give you the option...
Warmly, Marty
Check settings then location and that is it. Integrate Google nav to locations.
Hi. I'm new here.
I have similar issue. I want to change HTC Locations to Google Maps. I have checked this option "Integrate Google navigation to locations" in options, but here is the deal. I wanna my phone to search my location with GPS and Google Maps. HTC Locations (with requested network connection) is pretty inaccurate. Is there any possibility to change that?

it wont let me do that! it says "no default set"
I've been reading on the web about this extremely frustrating issue. There is, for the time being, no solution because HTC is forcing its users to use its software vs the default android one.
I've been using calendar pad pro and my idea was to contact calendar software makers to include in their options the possibility to choose whether to use google maps or another routing software.
I do hope that someone can come up with a solution or a workaround for this issue, especially I don't wanna root my phone at the moment as I am quite satisfied with its stability.
Try this app:

This is just a way to intercept HTC Location, so there is no icon in apps.
Got it. It works excellently and solves the problem
This is very great! Thanks guys!

As an FYI, it also works on the HTC Panache (myTouch 4G/Glacier). Thanks for the tip!
Delete, sorry wrong spot...

[Q] cm9/aokp by wildchild - which system apps are safe to remove?

i cant post in the dev section.
Hey Wildchild. great rom. cant wait for v3.
which system apps can i remove. i feel like everytime i remove system apps things start getting buggy
apps i wish i could remove safely:
dsp manager (i know you know about this already)
car home
movie studio
music
latitude
palringo
search
search
places
messaging
email
speech recorder
talk
voice dialer
You can remove everything but talk and messaging
Latitude and places are part of the google maps apk - the only way to remove them is to remove google maps.

You can find a useful chart of many apps in the cyanogenmod wiki, which shows the package name, description, and if it's safe to remove. There are most certainly apps in the wildchild ROM which are not in this list, but hopefully it will still help you.

You should take into account that removing some of these apps can make your phone a little more unstable.

You can safely remove DSPManager. Volume+ works better anyway.

Multiple Questions about Samsung droid charge

Hello,
I recently rooted my phone and installed Eclipse 2.0 on my phone. I had quite a few problems with it afterwards:
1. Even though I registered the new install with the same google account my paid apps as well as free apps are not getting automatically downloaded to the phone.
2. Ever since I did the new install my screen is not automatically adjusting itself in bright sunlight and this is especially noticeable when I am driving around using my google navigation. I have setup options to auto - adjust brightness.
3. I sometimes notice that even now my CPU spikes up and my phone appears frozen(though it is lot less frequent with the new install). I was wondering if there is any app that will record a history of which app is using cpu. I don't need an app that tells me which app is using cpu right now because when the phone is frozen I can't use that app anyway but I want an app that will record which app used cpu 5-10 minutes ago and possibly give me a graph.
4. With the new eclipse install I got an app called 'Car Home' that automatically starts up when it connects to my car bluetooth. Is there any app that can have my phone automatically play a playlist, pandora etc.?
5. In Google navigation I see that it brings up a history of locations that I had previously visited but many times a place that I had visited a couple of days ago is not there, I guess since the app based upon time of the week tries to predict where you will be travelling next. Is there any way to search history or any place that Google nav stores history?
I can answer #4 for you and that is to download Tasker. It's kind of confusing at first but it is an extremely powerful application that does exactly what you want.
as for 1-3 i recommend checking your md5 on the downloaded .zip i'm assuming and if that isn't the problem I recommend using an odin file and flash it that way as you get no errors that way.
because no one else is having those errors you're talking about it leads me to think that it is a bad install so do the above.
1. You can see all your apps that you've downloaded in the My Apps section, All Apps.
2. Make sure your screen is clean near the photosensor. Also, I like to use the slide status bar to adjust brightness. Also, I like to use Brightness Widget.
3. Not sure how to find the culprit easily, but I suggest running OS Monitor. Keep OS Monitor active and on your screen. Watch it until you see stuff spike.
4. Tasker is ultimate, not sure if there is something easier or not though.
5. No clue, but you can easily manage your locations via a Web browser at a computer if you are logged into your Gmail and you go to Google Maps. From there you can add destinations which syncs with your phone right away. I think you can add destinations in the Google Maps app on the phone, too.
FWIW, the only ROM where my apps have redownloaded automatically after flashing was Humble 5.0. but I think I'm in the minority in experiencing this.
my suspician is that since I have flashed so many ROMs so many times, I noticed multiple Charge devices available on my Google Play account, and I thought I would clean that up by deleting some of them.
My experience is that if I log into my Google account during my device setup, it automatically redownloads my apps. I don't want that, so I always skip that step. If I wait and do it through Accounts and Sync in the settings menu, it doesn't redownload automatically.
I also have 3 Charge's in my account, but they're all a result of CLN replacements. I've never seen a new one show up due to a ROM flash.
Re-Flash
So I was having the same problems with my Charge. All I did was re-flash the rom and it works perfect now.
One more question. I am perpetually on low RAM. Is it because some of my apps are installed on internal memory and not on the SD Card? Should I move all apps to my SD Card?
Also will Tasker automatically be able to start a playlist on Pandora or Google Music or will it just start the app?

make sure you are on the new pbj and you shouldn't have a ram problem. I have 100 apps i think and none of them are installed on my sd card so that has nothing to do with that problem
as for tasker it'll take some research but I know it integrates well with some apps settings and what not but I could not give you a definite answer. sorry.

[Q] Google Maps battery drain

Has anyone else noticed Maps generating a lot of wakelocks in recent versions? I'm not using Latitude, and with Maps installed, network location is always the top wakelock, even when I never open maps. When I remove maps, the wakelock goes away, and the battery life gets better.
I'm banging my head on the wall here...it wasn't like this is older versions, but lately I can't seem to do anything to calm it down, short of uninstalling/freezing it. It's not like I use it much, but it is nice for it to be there on the rare occasion that I do need it.
use an autorun manager to block it. one of the free versions allows for 4 toggles and I used them all on facebook (but for some reason maps isn't located in this program) so that doesn't really help your problem but i'll do some app research and report back. that'll probably be the only way to stop it.
edit: use gemini task manager and long click on maps and then configure auto run (root) i unchecked everything but a couple so that my geolocation for my beautiful widgets would work as well as facebook checkins although I'm not sure if maps has anything to do with this but i think it does.
