I recently rooted my phone and installed Eclipse 2.0 on my phone. I had quite a few problems with it afterwards:
1. Even though I registered the new install with the same google account my paid apps as well as free apps are not getting automatically downloaded to the phone.
2. Ever since I did the new install my screen is not automatically adjusting itself in bright sunlight and this is especially noticeable when I am driving around using my google navigation. I have setup options to auto - adjust brightness.
3. I sometimes notice that even now my CPU spikes up and my phone appears frozen(though it is lot less frequent with the new install). I was wondering if there is any app that will record a history of which app is using cpu. I don't need an app that tells me which app is using cpu right now because when the phone is frozen I can't use that app anyway but I want an app that will record which app used cpu 5-10 minutes ago and possibly give me a graph.
4. With the new eclipse install I got an app called 'Car Home' that automatically starts up when it connects to my car bluetooth. Is there any app that can have my phone automatically play a playlist, pandora etc.?
5. In Google navigation I see that it brings up a history of locations that I had previously visited but many times a place that I had visited a couple of days ago is not there, I guess since the app based upon time of the week tries to predict where you will be travelling next. Is there any way to search history or any place that Google nav stores history?
I can answer #4 for you and that is to download Tasker. It's kind of confusing at first but it is an extremely powerful application that does exactly what you want.
as for 1-3 i recommend checking your md5 on the downloaded .zip i'm assuming and if that isn't the problem I recommend using an odin file and flash it that way as you get no errors that way.
because no one else is having those errors you're talking about it leads me to think that it is a bad install so do the above.
1. You can see all your apps that you've downloaded in the My Apps section, All Apps.
2. Make sure your screen is clean near the photosensor. Also, I like to use the slide status bar to adjust brightness. Also, I like to use Brightness Widget.
3. Not sure how to find the culprit easily, but I suggest running OS Monitor. Keep OS Monitor active and on your screen. Watch it until you see stuff spike.
4. Tasker is ultimate, not sure if there is something easier or not though.
5. No clue, but you can easily manage your locations via a Web browser at a computer if you are logged into your Gmail and you go to Google Maps. From there you can add destinations which syncs with your phone right away. I think you can add destinations in the Google Maps app on the phone, too.
FWIW, the only ROM where my apps have redownloaded automatically after flashing was Humble 5.0. but I think I'm in the minority in experiencing this.
my suspician is that since I have flashed so many ROMs so many times, I noticed multiple Charge devices available on my Google Play account, and I thought I would clean that up by deleting some of them.
My experience is that if I log into my Google account during my device setup, it automatically redownloads my apps. I don't want that, so I always skip that step. If I wait and do it through Accounts and Sync in the settings menu, it doesn't redownload automatically.
I also have 3 Charge's in my account, but they're all a result of CLN replacements. I've never seen a new one show up due to a ROM flash.

So I was having the same problems with my Charge. All I did was re-flash the rom and it works perfect now.
One more question. I am perpetually on low RAM. Is it because some of my apps are installed on internal memory and not on the SD Card? Should I move all apps to my SD Card?
Also will Tasker automatically be able to start a playlist on Pandora or Google Music or will it just start the app?

make sure you are on the new pbj and you shouldn't have a ram problem. I have 100 apps i think and none of them are installed on my sd card so that has nothing to do with that problem
as for tasker it'll take some research but I know it integrates well with some apps settings and what not but I could not give you a definite answer. sorry.

While I generally love the honeycomb market and its automated updating, including autostop all which is so welcome coming from droid x, the auto install to the home screen is driving me nuts. it was bad enough with new apps but now its doing it for updates too, Getting no space on home screen messages fast enough to freeze out my music and still having to clean up icons that sneak through is annoying, I can't find the setting to disable this behavior.
Also, has anyone seen market list every single app a uninstalled? That happened as well and it slowly started marking them installed.

The shortcut auto install can be disabled in the market app by clicking My apps then the menu icon in the upper right. I have no idea why Google decided to have this on by default. Very annoying.

New issue. I don't think this is one can be resolved. When I first got the Xoom, all the apps installed on my google account on my phone were synced. I rooted last night and now only the apps that were installed since purchasing the Xoom are synced. There are only a few hanger ons, Liberty Toolbox, Droid Overclock and Droid Bootstrap (none of which I want on my Xoom). I actually uninstalled the Droid apps and they reappeared on the install list. I don't care about regaining the synced apps, its a good opportunity to clean house, but I want to keep the Droid apps off my list of market apps.
Hey guys, im pretty much new to the android scene, last week one of my parents friends changed their carrier to Telstra and my plans came into the conversation, and i said that i would like to get an android phone in the near future (probably the nexus 5 depending on whos making it).
Anyways he said he could give me one of his old android phones, a HTC Velocity 4G to see if i liked it or not.
Now my previous phone was a Nokia N8, not exactly great for apps n stuff but it was good at browsing the net using Opera and its battery life was amazing especially with music in the background it could last for quite a bit. If you werent using the browser and it was just sitting there with a few tabs open it could last nearly the entire day, if you actively used it with music in the background i think it lasted about 2 -3 hours
So here are a couple of questions i would like to ask regarding the phone itself and the google play store n such.
1. Do all android phones seemingly have bad battery life? i put some music on this phone, and it didnt even want to last a damn hour, that im wondering if it really is the phone or if the battery was stuffed up during the time they had it (understandable)
2. Do all android phones come with this task manager and can you only fully close apps from this app itself? i mean the N8 all you did was hold a button it would have the open apps and you just touched the X button.
3.. The Google Play store. Do you have to sign in with a google account? i mean i have a youtube account with a gmail but i dont think i want my phone to get all these email notifications or store my contacts on this account, mainly because this account gets alot of spam, in the spam folder and in the inbox folder that and i dont really use google plus except on a few occasions that i dont really wanna receive those kinds of notifications. Is it better just to create a new gmail just for my phone?
4. If i want in the future, can i remove my android phone from an account and decide to move it to another account due to unforeseen circumstances and keep the apps i might buy in the future?
Please remember im still new to the android scene, pretty much using Symbian my whole life (well only nokia 6300 and nokia n8 but they were both great phones) so dont judge me to harshly.

I am by no means an "expert", but I can try to answer your questions.
1. I currently have the Droid Razr MAXX HD and I can easily get 2 full days of use, and if I try, 3 days of full use. This is taking pictures, using 4g, playing games, texting, you name it. I also know they just released a 5000MaH battery for the S4, meaning it will last longer than my phone. Also, most phones have an optional extended battery.
2. Mostly, you don't need to close your apps. If you use the back button to navigate all the way out, or simply hit the home button, it will stay in your ram, but it won't normally interfere with the speediness of your device; since android apps are run in their own virtual device. But, in the settings you can force close any open app, and custom roms allow you a "kill" button for open apps.
3. I think it is better to create a new gmail for your phone. You have to sign into a gmail account to really even use an android phone, and I find it quite nifty. The one account lets you log into anything Google, the playstore, gmail, keep, etc. I have my contacts synced with my Gmail, so I never lose phone contacts, and I have really switched over to gmail because of my android phone. I just find it better to use than old school yahoo. Plus, I use drive, keep, and calendar frequently. Try all these Google apps for yourself, they can be very useful.
4. If by account you mean google account, then no, because the apps you purchase are synced with that account. If you mean carrier, then yes, because the apps are synced to the google account. You can also back your apps up with a rooted phone with certain software. Someone else might be better at answering this though.

Mostly what jdubya42 said but heres my word on it.
1. Battery life. Battery life can be bad on any device, it depends on what you use and how much you use your data or WiFi Bluetooth etc. Also like jdub said the new s4 is getting a 5000mah battery, that's a lot of juice normally android phones will have only around 1000mah-1800mah, your lucky if you get 2000mah. Android tablets get somewhere around 7000mah, so 5k on a phone should last you all day. Just think of how much the nexus 5 will get.
2. Most android phones nowadays come with a task manager. On some of the Samsung phone all you would have to do is hold the home button and will show you all the apps you have opened, and keeps them running. Its a nice way to switch between apps but keeping apps in the background can drain your battery fast so you should close the ones your not using (the task manager for android only comes with android 4.0 and up devices lower versions of android close the app when exited out), for this I would recommend a phone that would have more than one core, the s4 comes with 1.6ghz quad core which is more than enough.
3.as for the gmail, yes you need to make gmail account or use existing one, android is open source, the way google make money is the OEM (original equipment manufacturer, HTC Samsung lg etc) makes the phones sells them, profit for OEM, and people buy apps movies music and books from the Google play store, profit for Google.
4. If you get a new android phone you are able to still use all the apps music etc you bought on your previous devices and use on future ones, you won't have to remove your gmail account from your old phone.

Closing apps and getting "battery saving" apps can potentially save you battery but in addition to the software aspect, you can also modify the hardware usage. By that I mean unlocking, rooting, custom kernel and ROM. Just installing them will likely optimize your phone better then stock but you can also manually set your min/max frequency, frequency governor, core activity, undervoltage, GPU governor/responsiveness, and more.

I have searched this forum and the web, still surprised about the poor integration of multiple devices in Google Play.
Can anybody tell me if there is any easy and fast way to transfer most of your app's to a new device?
I am amazed the lack of usability in this matter? Why is there not a column based page with all your registered devises from left to right and all the app's downwards, then a box to "tick" on each device to install or delete multiple app's in one go??? How hard can it be???
I know you can use Titanium but you need to be rooted and still go by each app individual or take all in one go, this do not make any sense since a newer device might not need all the app's.
On Google Play I can see all my app's and then install them one by one with a confirmation box for every one? long and boring task.
A column based set-up where you choose which app's to be installed on what device you have registered seems like a "no-brainer" to me but I have not been able to find anything that resembles that??
Does it exist and am I a knob or is this a major oversight by Google???

The key here is you need to tell Google to restore your phone once you install an OS. If you did this, the Play Store automatically downloads all your previously installed apps.
Also, in Titanium you have the checkboxes on the side as you're asking for, you just deselect the checkboxes besides the red apps pretty much...
I have a (4GB) Tronsmart TS7 (some times known as a Alps Glacier TS7). It's a Chinese MTK6589 based phone running Android 4.2 purchased from geekbuying.
For the most part the device is stock, there are next to no pre-installed apps apart from the usual, and the only additional apps I have installed are: Playstation, Steam, ColorNote, Shuttle+, Root Explorer DI Radio, Chrome & Gmail
The problem I have is that there are apps appearing on the device that I am not installing. So far it has been the same set of apps that appear:
Mobo Market
UC Browser
TrustGo Security
DU Battery Saver
337 Game Master
GameCenter
(there may be more)
These apps don't start appearing right after a factory reset, but start to arrive 1-2weeks later. They also seem to be packaged similarly; when I say packaged I mean opening them seems to prompt with the same menu & style (accept licence etc) before it gets to the main app. Also, after you open the app from the app drawer it then creates an icon on the desktop. Maybe opening it actually does the installing?
The apps themselves seem to be legit.
I have factory reset the device (twice), and changed my Google password but they are still appearing. They don't show up in my Play store history so they must be coming from elsewhere.
My main concern is that if it is downloading things without my permission, what might it be uploading ? Not to mention wasting my 3g data etc.
So I have a few questions:
Should I be (really) worried?
Is there a way to monitor this? eg connect to a wifi hotspot and packet capture the network traffic? or maybe use a process monitor (the ones I've tried so far haven't shown anything) to see if there is some sort of script in the background?
Can it be stopped?
Thanks in advance, I would be interested to know if anyone else has/had this problem?
I have the same problem.
I haven't tried flashing some other ROM yet, but I guess that is the only way to get it to stop installing those things.
Have you actually found any other roms to install?
For anybody's information:
You may have noticed how you always end up with a 'Tronsmart.mp4' video file appearing in your gallery app. This is damn annoying since it appears twice, once on the internal and once on the external SD card. There is an '\system\app\CopyTest.apk' file which creates both of these. Should be safe to delete it and thus prevent the file(s) appearing
I have actually decompiled this apk. It works as a service that runs when MEDIA_UNMOUNTED or MEDIA_MOUNTED is invoked, and does absolutely nothing else.
I have the same problem, those random apps installing and the video always in my gallery. I have managed to stop tge apps by using a firewall and allowing only my apps that i want to use the internet. I havent found a solution though to fix the problem. Probably tronsmart is spamming its customers...

What Firewall did you use? I might be able to use something like that to pinpoint the app that's causing this.

USB debugging disabled stopped it on mine
edit: not that easy, wasn't enough. made some cleanup by disabing/removing some system apps. seems to work so far although there are still some strange events like superuser crashing and right after that system downloader.apk reappearing. haven't seen any other junk coming back

It appears Google has once again started limiting the number of devices All Access users can deauthorize on an annual basis. This is definitely a problem for us Flashaholics. I searched to see if there was an announcement. I see nothing listed, but I was personally denied removing any devices. Google states I've deauthorized too many devices. I'd hate to go searching for a new music service, but it looks like I have no choice. Your thoughts?

I thought this had been announced a while ago and the limit was 4 times a year or something like that? I remember reading about this before though. Although my understand was that was the limit of deactivating ALL devices and not the individual devices which I thought that was still unlimited. Might have to look around again for that so I can make sure

I used to use Google Play Music just cause I was able to upload my own mp3's, had the same problem of not being able to delete devices...
That's why Spotify is my poison of choice and haven't looked back ever since.. they have about every song I like and more.

I don't have local music stored on my phone.. the downloaded music I have is a few playlists off of spotify for when I'm on a plane and since you can't have your cellphone radios on and even if you could there's no signal..
So I don't know, but I doubt it works as a music player for your local music files..
there's really no need to (unless you have limited data or listening to music on a plane)

I almost jumped to Spotify, until I read that only one mobile device can be connected at the same time. If one device is connected, and another starts using Spotify, the first device will pause. I can see my 2 teenage daughters getting frustrated trying to figure out why the service keeps pausing. Lol.
Google allows all trusted devices to play at the same time. I'm set for now. Google reset the account for me. This gives me time to research some options.
i had a very screwy incident when i tried to deactivate two devices - i ended up getting two notices that i cancelled my service. i did get to reactivate at the 7.99 price though and got it confirmed that deactivation are not per calendar year, but each deactivation is freed up after 12 months.
i've got my m8 listed twice - once for the GPE rom and the other for the sense ROM. anyone know if there are any problems restoring an ID across different OS versions?
Spotify will sync across all devices on the same account. So it's not useful for a family on one account. It's great for an individual person though. I've had music playing on my PC, opened the app on my phone and changed the song from a different room entirely. Same thing works with my tablet. I was streaming a playlist during a BBQ had a friend complain he didn't like the song but didn't want to get out of the chair to change it. I grabbed my phone and handled it.... like a boss.
But yeah, family plan is not possible with Spotify.
@mjs2011 You can use your local music as well. The only stipulation to that is that you have to have a paid account. You can all your own music plus Spotify music to a playlist on the PC, open the app on your phone and set it to be available offline and Spotify will download all the music from them and your own PC to your phone.
Could just be me, but as long as I removed the devices from inside the mobile app it lets me remove as many as I want. If I try through chrome on my desktop or laptop it tells me I have run out of deactivations. Really strange, but I'll take it.

one of my deactivations was via the web for a phantom tablet (listed twice for rom flashing), the other was via the device that i decided i won't use play music for any more. i got two notifications of cancellation of service and verified on phone that i only had 1 cancellation left until oct this year. maybe there was just a bug on that day.
my m8 is listed twice and my gn10.1 twice.
I am cannot listen to my music anymore... Turns out I have already reached the limit for 4 devices every year. Feels like Google is screwing me. Does anybody have any suggestions? I have already tried this tip Cnet (unable to post link since I am kind of new too XDA), but in my country there are only tech support via email (the other one was with phone call) which I have yet to recieve a response). Any suggestions?
it's sad that google passed the blame on to the music providers for having to implement this, but it's their fault for implementing it so ****ty. even amazon's deactivation is better than this crap.

Check out this thread. I started using this app recently. This app will backup & restore your device ID. I've flashed many roms since I came across this app. It works as advertised, and doesn't add to my device count in GPMAA.
Here's what I do. Make sure you backup your current rom first. It's just good practice.
1. Download and install app.
2. Run app and backup your device ID.
3. Copy the folder to your SD card. This is so you'll have a copy should you format your internal storage.
4. After flashing your rom and downloading all your apps. Copy the folder to your internal storage. Do not open GPMAA.
5. Run app and restore your previous ID.
6. Profit.

Thank you so much for your answer! I was finally able to get in contact with Google and they reset my device list
But I will test out your tip next time I am flashing and testing out a new ROM! Don't want to experience this again...

I do this routinely with tibu as part of my flashing process and have never had a problem.
IIRC it uses the same ID for your phone no matter what rom you are on
