problems with OP7 chinese version, AA int rom, android 10, intelligent hub - OnePlus 7 Questions & Answers

I have a brand new OP7 from China, with AA international android 10 rom installed.
problem I am having, my employer requires device management through vmware intelligent hub application for device enrollment, and cert installations.
during the setup and enrollment process, I get an error saying failed to create install url, support team has never seen this error before, and I can't find much reference to the issue online.
Any suggestions where to start with this?

Probably compatible issue with android 10.
Try to clean install of 10.0.1. For me at least it solved some apps that didn't worked even in first original android 10 release.

As usual, the solution here is downgrading to android 9, due to providers not being willing to believe there is an issue with their software. I used the rollback package provided for those running Q betas earlier in the year. This put it back to 9.5 and I was able to get the vmware product to work. I will hold off on updating to 10 when they get their head out of their butts.
Note to the vmware developers, your product has been broken on android 10 since the early betas in the spring, but still, you fail to address the problem. Your support is a joke.

Updates in android and windows

Updates for Android devices are always rolled by the gadget manufacturer, so every time Google introduces a new update we have to wait till the manufacturer of the device decides to roll it out, this obviously takes a lot of time and puts Android at a disadvantage against Apple and Microsoft.
For a Windows device irrespective of the manufacturer if Microsoft rolls out an update all can avail of that update through windows update. Android also being an open platform like Windows should be able to do the same.
If I have a software CD of Windows 7 I can install the software in any manufacturers PC and use it. I may just need to do some additional driver installation if required.
Why can't Android develop their platform to function in a similar manner so that once a new version of Android is released I can install it it any device and o fcourse put in the specific drivers to make it work if required.
With the approach of Microsoft looking very prominent now for both Smartphones and Tablets, this may just be a warning bell for Android, I hope they have their eyes and ears open.
Would be nice to know the views of others. As an Android user do you feel this would be a good step for Google?

The above is the key sentence in your post. The problem is that without the correct hardware drivers for your specific phone the OS may not be able to boot at all and will certainly have limited functionality - just look at the issues there are with trying to run leaded ICS / JB ROMs on phones that don't have an official version of the ROM available with the correct drivers yet.
The reason that Microsoft is able to push out a new OS and have it (mostly) work on any manufacturers PC, with any hardware, is that all the hardware manufacturers are given alpha/beta copies of Windows to test their hardware on and to allow them to build the drivers well in advance of the OS being released by the guys in Redmond.
Google don't do that. They release the OS immediately they have hardware support and compatibility for their devices - and let everybody else deal with the aftermath
windows is the opposite from open platform!
android is an open platform.
the phone makers are free to use android as they wish, they can decide if to upgrade or not.
google only realeses the source code.
XDA is there for providing the latest update.
My phone was supported by Samsung till Gingerbread. But I got jelly bean from XDA devs just after a week after the source code release.
But it does have some bugs which cannot be solved without Samsung's help.
But if you wanted the fastest OEM updates, buy a Nexus.
But 50% of the people are normal users who do not care about updates and new android versions.

Thank you for the response and I do agree with what you say and the key to it is that there are certain things that Microsoft do and Google don't and how it is going to impact users in the future.
I remember when I moved from Windows Vista to Windows 7 all the Vista drivers were functioning allright after installing Windows 7 and I have also faced situations where I did not have certain drivers but the PC still functioned on generic drivers provided in the Windows software.
Don't you feel it would be much better if Google just released a Jelly Bean OS and left it to us to install it and I am sure that based on devices already in the market those drivers can always be included in the OS and each phone would pick its own based on its hardware. Only the new devices would need new ones which Google may not be able to provide. If this were true today I would be installing JB in my Galaxy S3 and not have to wait for Sammy.

No, Windows is quite open. Apple is the closed one.

[Completed] Cortana In Windows

Microsoft’s digital voice assistant was introduced on Windows Phone 8.1 back in early April, and since then the company has been working hard to refine the service and launch it globally. On mobile.
But an appearance on the Windows platform is all but a formality.
And now we have an official confirmation. Of sorts. Marcus Ash, the group program manager working on the Cortana project fired off a series of tweets over the weekend, revealing that the software titan was indeed planning to port Cortana to the desktop.
Only after finishing work on the Windows Phone build, that is.
This is what he said on the matter:
“4. After we execute on #1 – #3, we have started to THINK about #Cortana on #Windows so more #Microsoft customers experience her.”
And followed it up with another tweet, saying:
“5. In a future state, the best experience will still be for #Microsoft customers that own all #Windows devices. Best work is on our devices.”
So basically, the idea is to provide a fully featured experience on Windows Phone, first and foremost. This is clearly the top priority for now.
Once this goal is achieved, however, the company will start focusing on other projects for Cortana, including porting the service to Windows 8.1. In case this takes time, and development requires more effort, then the digital assistance might debut with Windows 9.
And judging by how thing are going, chances are that the next full version of the operating system will be the one that arrives with Cortana built in.
This might help the Windows Phone Users. So it might be more Pertinent to post

[Q] Avoid 8.1 for Surface RT when updating

First post ever. Wanted to post it here but wasn't allowed due to some rules: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2092348
Anyway, wonder if you someone could point out which updates (windows updates) should not be installed for the surface RT if you don't want to update it to 8.1. Reason is that jailbreaks only works for 8.0. But some applications, for instance DosBox, seems to need some updates in order to work (or else according to some comments an error occurs which happens to me know). It has become a kind of catch 22 now; You should not update but if it should work you need to update.
Right now I have 123 different updates.
So the questions still stands: What update(s) should I avoid in order to keep the windows on 8.0? For intance, KB.... or updates released after some date.
I have tried to find any relevant info about this but without success.
EDIT: Sorry, just saw the thread probably belongs in "Surface RT General" forum. Me bad.
Thanks in advance.

MS16-094/CVE-2016-3287: Potential unlock.

So as many of you may be aware, Microsoft recently released a patch to fix a dev backdoor in the surface rt line of products. The fixing of a hole indicates the presense of one, which we would do well to discover.
I currently have my own RT inbound on or about the 11th for experimentation, but I'd like to get a head start; however, the RT update is only available via windows update, so I can't get at it via the normal methods
of direct downloading. As such, I'd like to request that the community assist in this manner; by comparing a before and after of the various files updated via kb3172727 one may be able to figure out this dev backdoor
and finally be able to fully unlock this tablet's hardware potential, up to the ability to load linux (and therefore android) on this otherwise nice device.
Closing per OP's request

Linux Distro emulation possible on Fold2 ?

Hello everyone I've tested fold2 in store this week and I am in love with it, on my current tablet (android7) I run termux and andronix (with pulse audio) and get pretty good emulation, can listen songs in Andronix while coding in VncViewer. So recently I've decided to buy fold2 but as I searched through internet I've seen some issues mentioned about android 10 giving errors on termux etc. they are not fold2 specific but I know fold2 uses android 10 and getting android 11 recently as I saw and will get some updates for a some time. I am wondering, is there any person using Andronix or equivalent virtual linux with sound on your fold2 with latest firmware version? Are there any person having issues? On the contrary if anyone using fold2 with this purpose and having fun I also really appreciate to hear from you.
While I was preparing my question I've seen some issues regarding file access in termux regarding android 11 and target sdk api level I will install termux as soon as I get one would it be better to update android 11 when I get it or wait in 10 until any problems on 11 are fixed?
