Redmi S2 .zip files not showing in TWRP - Xiaomi Redmi S2 Questions & Answers

Hey. I was tryna install custom ROM on my device. The first time i installed TWRP on my phone it asks for a encrytion key. But since idk what the hell was that and i thought it might be a bug, I tried installing TWRP again and this time it doesnt require a key no more. And here's the weird thing, in TWRP when i look at the select storage it shows the correct size of my sd card and internal storage just fine. but i cant see the rom files either on my internal storage or sd card. I put the files on both storage but it just doesnt seem to read my files in there. I'm pretty sure i have enabled usb debugging and i have unlocked the bootloader. any suggestions on what else to do here? i have done wiping everything for few times too.
now i am stuck with a bricked device. can someone please tell me what mistake i did or what to do? :/

on the twrp main menu select wipe, and there are 2 choices, advance wipe and format data...
Data format makes all data stored in internal storage erased, so maybe you need to back up

Most probably you need to mount sdcard. See "Mount" on twrp. If sdcard not checked, check it.

This sort of happened to me before. try downloading and installing the file attached. It should do the trick. N.B- You need to have root access.
ok thanks. I have root access (i think, fairly new to all this, apologies).
How do I run the file??
Thanks.

Boot your phone (make sure the file is on your phone), then simply select the file and follow the onscreen instructions. After that, select it's icon in the menu and choose to allow it to automatically operate when USB is connected. Then just allow root access and you're good to go. Try your rom flashing again and it should be successful.
hey
thanks for your help, but I currently have no ROM / OS installed on the phone, so can only boot into recovery / fastboot etc.
not into android os.

Since you can boot into recovery and access your phone from your computer, then just flash the stock windows mobile rom to your phone. I think that would work and it does make sense. If it does work then you can continue doing what you want after you have done it.
Do you mean flash it via fastboot? I'm sturuggling to get files across from my pc... sorry to be a pain...
I can access the SD card to drag files in recovery. but cant isntall from the sd on my phone.
tried flashing files direct to phone with fastboot but coundt. probably just got it wrong. gahhh.

After rom flash, does not recognize microsd anymore

I recently flash one of the g2x to bionix 2 and it does not recognize the microsd anymore.
How can I go back to another rom without using sd card? It boots up and loads fine.
Clockworkmod recovery will still recognize it. Did you try booting into recovery?

No recovery won't delete the files on your memory card during a normal wipe of user data.
You can also get into recovery by powering off the phone and then holding the volume-down and power buttons at the same time until it boots into recovery .... assuming you nvflashed the recovery to your phone.
i can use nvflash to get into recovery, but when i try to browse to sd card, nothing.....

Which recovery did you flash? There are 2 versions. One mounts the internal memory and the other mounts the external sdcard. Make sure your files are in the appropriate location for the recovery you flashed.

i did both and they did not work, i ended up with the external.
wat u do mean by files are in appropriate location ? i thought i can put those rom files on the root of the sd card.

Yes you're correct. You can actually have them anywhere you want on the sdcard. What I meant was they need to be on whichever "sdcard" your recovery is mounting, whether its internal or external.

The only other suggestion I can come up with would be to flash the other recovery, the one that mounts your internal memory. Use a file explorer app on your phone to move the rom .zip to your internal memory and then boot into recovery and flash.
Maybe your external sdcard slot is fried? I dunno. If its not recognize by your OS or recovery then it seems like a hardware issue. Just my opinion based on what you've been describing.

[Q]rooted 2.2, Installed CM10 on HOX, cant copy files!

Hey guys,
I have a question.
I'm successfully rooted and installed cm10 thanks to the help of this forum and got thought i got everything working. However, when I tried to copy music, it does not show up on the one x!
Not sure why, i decided to check the storage options in settings. If i go to settings, storage. I see a whopping 2.34 gigabytes of available space!!
not sure if this is because of the cm10 install or what? I had to reformat the disk at one points.
If i go to my computer and look at it, its 9.92 gig capacity, and im only using 1.57 GB. Its formatted in FAT32.
Does anyone know what my problem is?
Thank you!
UPDATE:
so i found this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33301423
i tried going into MTP mode in USB computer connection (storage, settings, usb computer connection) it selects for a second, then defaults to mass storage.
Do you think it could be something witih me mounting the sd card wrong in TWRP?
2.34GB is the phone storage
9.93GB is the sdcard
try wiping sdcard inside settings

You can wipe it from recovery or in the ROM of the phone. Either one should work. If you do it from TWRP, make sure to use FAT32
If I wipe my sd card.. Wouldn't I lose all my files?
Can someone explain it like I'm five? I'm still confused. Maybe a procedure?
Thanks for your patience.

If you can't mount your SD card in recovery or from within CM10, your internal* storage is possibly corrupted.
Plug your phone into your computer and try mounting the SD card as a disk drive and scan for errors
doing a factory reset in bootloader will cause your sdcard to corrupt.

great resource here... im doing this now. will report back.
EDIT: yep, works now. follow the instrucitons on the link.
its kinda confusing, but when you go into twrp, your SD is ALREADY mounted, so dont hit unmount...
WHen you are done copying music/games/pron or whatever, make sure you safely remove it before turning file transfer off on your phone. and you should b OK

see , amazing what taking a deep breath, a little reading and some searching will do....you get to answer your own questions :highfive:

Cannot mount storage

Somehow I corrupted my virtual external storage partition and cannot mount it or format it, when I boot my phone it says "Damaged Phone Storage". I've wiped and re-flashed ViperXL but no change and while I can erase the storage in TWRP it doesn't fix it, nor is it visible if I try to mount it from TWRP either. It seems like it works sometimes for internal operations as I can download files but I can never mount it.
I'm running TWRP 2.4.1.0, ViperXL 3.2.3, and HBOOT 2.14, with S-OFF on an AT&T branded One X.
You may have might the somewhat common mistake of doing a factory reset in hboot, which corrupts the SD card (only factory reset in TWRP in the future). You should be able to connect the phone to a PC, go to Device Manager, and it should give you the option to format the SD. Format it FAT32, and should be good to go.

Yes I know I did try that at one point, think it was after the initial problem started but come to think of it the "Damaged Phone Storage" error wasn't there initially so maybe I made the problem worse. Let me see if I can locate a cable somewhere around here I can borrow so I don't have to wait until I get home and try to see if I can mount it and format it through Disk Management. I think the last time I tried connecting it to the PC I got a FC on the android.media process though.

I don't think the phone even needs to be booted, for the SD to be formatted. Try it in hboot.

Seems worse now, I cannot mount it in TWRP, the option is grayed out but a 9.9GB drive does appear in Disk Management but it fails to format.

Ok, I got it fixed. I used the Evita Toolkit to flash the newly released TWRP and that allowed me to mount and use the External Storage from within recovery. Then I wiped and reflashed ViperXL 3.2.3. The android.process.media error is a glitch in the full ROM and fixed by flashing the OTA update. So now I can mount the SD card partition in recovery and the phone shows up as an MTP device which I can access while booted to android as well.
Interesting solution. Wouldn't have thought to try that. Thanks for posting.

TWRP Recovery 2.4.4.0.

I cleaned my tablet tf300, to install a newer and different rom, now i can't get twrp to see my microsd card to install the rom, how can i get the rom file to my internal sd card to proceed, as i can't get adb to work either, i've no idea how to copy the files to internal to get going again.
Any and all help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Make sure the SD card is mounted in the "Mounts" section of TWRP.
I did that but it won't stay in that mode, keeps on reverting to internal.

Did you try unmounting the internal, then mounting external?
I have zero luck in getting it to stay on external SD, I've tried to unmount the internal and then mount the ext sd, so I am stuck. I don,t even see USB mode when I hold volume down and power, the only option is recovery Android and wipe data, so I don't seem to be able to get the zipped rom i want to install copied where I can use it.

Thats how the new bootloader works, fastboot protocol is enabled the second you boot to that menu. So make sure you are on the patched 2.4.4.0 recovery.
I've downloaded a patched version of the twrp 2.4.4.0, but i can't access usb function to use fastboot or any other method to get the patched file to my internal storage on the tablet. Any ideas as how to transfer the needed file? Hope it's not bricked beyond repair. Plus my pc fails to install device driver, i am stuck at the starting screen that says "the device is unlocked" and asus logo.
