[Q]rooted 2.2, Installed CM10 on HOX, cant copy files! - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hey guys,
I have a question.
I'm successfully rooted and installed cm10 thanks to the help of this forum and got thought i got everything working. However, when I tried to copy music, it does not show up on the one x!
Not sure why, i decided to check the storage options in settings. If i go to settings, storage. I see a whopping 2.34 gigabytes of available space!!
not sure if this is because of the cm10 install or what? I had to reformat the disk at one points.
If i go to my computer and look at it, its 9.92 gig capacity, and im only using 1.57 GB. Its formatted in FAT32.
Does anyone know what my problem is?
Thank you!
UPDATE:
so i found this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33301423
i tried going into MTP mode in USB computer connection (storage, settings, usb computer connection) it selects for a second, then defaults to mass storage.
Do you think it could be something witih me mounting the sd card wrong in TWRP?

2.34GB is the phone storage
9.93GB is the sdcard
try wiping sdcard inside settings

You can wipe it from recovery or in the ROM of the phone. Either one should work. If you do it from TWRP, make sure to use FAT32

If I wipe my sd card.. Wouldn't I lose all my files?
Can someone explain it like I'm five? I'm still confused. Maybe a procedure?
Thanks for your patience.

If you can't mount your SD card in recovery or from within CM10, your internal* storage is possibly corrupted.
Plug your phone into your computer and try mounting the SD card as a disk drive and scan for errors

doing a factory reset in bootloader will cause your sdcard to corrupt.

great resource here... im doing this now. will report back.
EDIT: yep, works now. follow the instrucitons on the link.
its kinda confusing, but when you go into twrp, your SD is ALREADY mounted, so dont hit unmount...
WHen you are done copying music/games/pron or whatever, make sure you safely remove it before turning file transfer off on your phone. and you should b OK

APPS2SD For Beginners

Hello everyone. I am branching over to XDA from Androidforums in need of more guidance.
First, let me say I HAVE searched for instruction to my post, I HAVE NOT been successful with any of my reading. I just closed three separate windows of firefox with a total of near 75 tabs, all related to apps2sd, but none giving the specific instruction I need.
If in reading this you can think of another thread that has my answer, PLEASE post it for me. -much appreciated
If not, please read and help if possible. (I am listing my set up in case it is user specific)
CDMA Hero
Rooted
RA-Heroc v1.2.3 Recovery
Fresh 1.0 Rom
My goal is to initialize and complete the process of setting up apps2sd system today.
I would like to sucessfully have this running and I cannot find any specific guide on "how to". I have however found MANY that speak about it after the fact.
So, please someone tell me what I need to do to set this up. I want apps off device and to have a "swap space (???)" set up.
Can I do this now (after having flashed custom rom) or do I need to start all over, beginning with apps2sd process first and then flashing Rom.
Detailed instructions much appreciated, or a link to appropriate thread.
THANKS!! Rep points for you!!
You just need to partition your SD card as ext2+FAT+swap and reboot. That's all.
This will erase your SD card, so be sure you copy everything off first.
Please edit the title of this thread and take out the [ROM] prefix. This is not a ROM and the title is misleading.
Thanks.
EDIT: Does FreshROM 1.0 have apps2sd? I thought it only supported it if you had it on there previously.
EDIT: Never mind, I just saw this in the FreshROM apps2sd rant post - "Now with all of THAT said -- this rom officially has and supports Apps2SD. "

Are you serious, it's that simple?!!! argggh.
Okay, but with a bit more detail... I am rebooting into recovery mode and then doing this? Can you explain with just a tad more detail? thanks!
Haha there is no more detail. Just format your SD card with that option. WAM BAM DONE
I swear I'm not a cop! I just made the same mistake once.
I tried looking for apps2sd info a while back and ran into your same dilemma. I ended up using Modaco's ROM (actually, I used the UNOFFICIAL updated modaco made by obelisk79) because it already had it on there.

Right in the recovery options there's one that says something like "Format SD card: Ext2+FAT+swap" or something like that. Choose that, then reboot.
I thought Fresh 1.0 had AppsToSD built-in. If it doesn't, this won't actually accomplish anything.

Yeah I found somewhere that it would obviously erase the card data. I am really trying to figure out if the apps2sd is the same as "swap" since I keep finding bad things about swapping.

No, it's not the same as using swap. It works fine, don't worry about it.
AppsToSD works best with a Class 6 card, since the class 6 cards are faster.

Yes, I'm using it. I have read flipzmode's rant about why he doesn't like Apps2SD. I have had no problems with it.
When I ran it with the modaco/obelisk79 ROM it seemed to keep the phone relatively speedy, even with a ton of apps installed. I am using FreshROM 1.0 now and I ended up uninstalling a few apps because of lag.
EDIT: I am not inferring that FreshROM is any slower. I think the problem is on my end! BTW, I am using a 16G class 6 card.

Unfortunately I think mine is not a class 6, it's just an 8gig standard micro sd. (PNY brand).
Anyway, so i went in recov. mode and formatted to the ext/fat/swap partition. I reloaded my card with previous data. Is that all I need to do? is there no setting I need to monitor or adjust?
and also, will my current apps get pushed to the sd or is there a process I should follow to move them to the sd?
I just did this and it pushed my apps from what I can tell. My internal storage number went from around 90mb used to 52mb. Now my real question is if I wanted to undo this.. what kind of options/headache am I looking at ?

Current apps should get pushed to the SD. To make sure it's working, pull up an adb shell and do:
cd /data/app
pwd
You should see "/system/sd/app" spit back at you.

Well yeah you would certainly have to reformat. But in addition to that you would need to re-install your apps, since they would have been removed from the card.
I was reading somewhere that you can change a setting to zero which causes the hero to pull the apps back to internal storage, leaving you not needing to re-install. cAn't remember where setting is or where i found it...

[Q] Accidental Wipe Recovery

Accidentally wiped my sdcard after wiping my entire system while installing Virtuous 1.29
Is the only way to push a new zip with the ADB terminal?
I installed the HTC Sync drivers, do i need to install the Google ones as well?
Don't have a lot of time on a computer so links would be helpful, or else i would try and search.

I don't understand why you can't put a zip on your sd card.
Maybe I'm not completely understanding your predicament. Are you saying you don't have a functional phone due to something going wrong with the unity flash?
Was actually going to put my phone down and get on da puter to post links and help you out....ran outta time though, sorry man.
Try putting the rom on another sd card or taking the current one out of your phone and transferring the rom to the card via an sd card reader. That would be the easiest way. When wiping you can wipe cache, data/factory restore, dalvik cache in advanced, and you can also format system. Don't try doing anything else because you can end up in trouble like you are now. If you can transfer the files like I described it would be the easiest way for you.

From what I understood, he was going to install the virtuous rom, but he was wiping everything first before install. Unfortunately, he also wiped his sd card and now he only has recovery with no rom or backups to flash and no operating system to go back to.
you can mount your phone with recovery.. or you can use an adapter... or as said above another sd card..
Mudknot is correct. I have mounted through recovery before but it was a long time ago. Maybe he or someone else could walk you through it. It was not hard to do.

How do I wipe EVERYTHING on my internal SD card?

Hi guys.
I want to start from scratch regarding my internal SD card (not using external) because I have a lot of junk that just needs to be gone.
I'm running Synergy's latest nightly and am going to flash a Jelly Bean ROM (don't know which yet) right after wiping everything.
So my question is, what do I do to make sure everything is wiped, and my phone still boots? I'm kind of lost.
I usually use CWM to flash, so what do I press in order to do this?
Thanks a lot.
You have to format the internal card with a filw explorer or in a recovery

Understood, but what happens when I try to reboot back into the phone; will it boot normally?
I ditto this question. I'm also curious about formatting my internal card and starting from scratch. I know factory reset from cwm recovery doesn't do it. I'm afraid to just start doing things and bricking this thing. Even though I was told by my cousin who has flashed many phone its very hard to hard brick a Samsung.

Just curious cause I also did data/factory reset from cwm and all it did was delete the rom and apps but all the stuff left over from the apps and music/photos/videos were still there.

In all honesty I'm not sure if it will erase settings as well. I don't believe it will but some app settings are stored on the SD card so you may have to sign back into some things.
If you choose to factory reset at the same time then yes you will have to reset everything up.
One thing to keep in mind if you make your backups without selecting external SD card they will ask be erased so you will have no backups
If I helped you in some way.... pass on the favor and help the next person!

Quick question, I just went into cwm recover then mounts and storage and the options are
Format /cache
Format /system
Format /data
Format /preload
Format /sdcard
Would sdcard be the internal sd card?
It sounds like that wipes everything (rom and all) and not just internal sd?

SM-G930F SDCard write only

I have just bought an S7 (SM-G930F) after years and years with my trusty S3 9-9300...
I have rooted it and installed TWRP. Otherwise stock. Added most of my trusty apps and 64Gb SD Card.
I have an odd senario. I can access the card and I can andd and make changes to content, BUT there are some things I can not do, such as change ownership and permissions, but more importantly, I can not back up using Titanium Backup. TB says the card is fuill, but further investigation it won't allow it to store to the card. It says it is read only.
How do I fix this very annoying delema, any one, please?

Hi
did you do all the steps posted in the TWRP page , specially Wipe Data?
Well I didn't follow those steps, but I did wipe the data partition just by chance.
What do you think ithe problem is and do you think it can be fixed without yet another rebuild - I have done so many to get the phone working.

Hi
I think that the data partition is still encrypted or not totally decripted that is why you do not have full access
TWRP Op step 10
Only if you want internal storage or data to work in TWRP:
Go to [Wipe] -> [Format Data] (not advanced wipe) -> type "yes".
WARNING: This will wipe your internal storage, disable encryption, and factory reset your phone!
Go to [Reboot] -> [Recovery].
You need to format data ( no just wipe) to get full access
I would try to install again TWRP ( all steps) but of course the problem is your data will be gone
OK, but how does that help the SDCard?????
I ask as I want to make absolutly sure as I now have no backup as I had deleted all the TB files.

Hi
Did you see @*Detection* comments , FAT is not the same as FAT32 , format the sd card in your PC and make sure you select FAT32
SO using my rooted file explorers, the issue seems to be that SDcard is owned by root and is rwxr-xr-x and I can't change it...

Take the card out of the phone, put it in a reader and connect to PC USB
Use something like minitool partition wizard free to delete all the partitions on the card, create a new primary partition, format to FAT32
Put it back in the phone and see how you get on

Hi
+1 @*Detection*
Also you are 100% you are root ? check with something like Root Checker to make sure
I had using gParted - I use Linux machines, still the same and I re rooted several times. and via other rooted S3s. Same.
I think that this is an ownership/group issue. The mount directory is "storage" owned by root, and it is interesting the two of my root file managers see it and the card as rwx-rwx-rwx and others as rwx-r_x-r__
and I suspect that apps like TB, parted (partition manager), Apps to SD, etc. are seeing the same. However, even with the file manager apps that see full access I can not change ownership or rw privileges..... REALLY ODD!!!!!!
SOLVED!!!! Hope this helps others.
In TWRP, Advanced, File Manager.... Find the SD Card, the change the permisions to 0015 This is the SDCard Group/ownership. It all works great now.
To tidy up I need to create a new mount point in / or storage and then a line in fstab. Know how to do that in Linux/Ubuntu, but not in Android even though it is one the same.
Any helps Please?????

But since idk what the hell was that and i thought it might be a bug, I tried installing TWRP again and this time it doesnt require a key no more. And here's the weird thing, in TWRP when i look at the select storage it shows the correct size of my sd card and internal storage just fine. but i cant see the rom files either on my internal storage or sd card. I put the files on both storage but it just doesnt seem to read my files in there. I'm pretty sure i have enabled usb debugging and i have unlocked the bootloader. any suggestions on what else to do here? i have done wiping everything for few times too.
now i am stuck with a bricked device. can someone please tell me what mistake i did or what to do? :/

on the twrp main menu select wipe, and there are 2 choices, advance wipe and format data...
Data format makes all data stored in internal storage erased, so maybe you need to back up

if you have 'format data'... the 'internal storage' is erased so you will not see your own zip file in internal storage...
try use this...

but i suppose, the sd card should be able to show the files right? since only the phone's storage was wiped and the sd card also has my zip files. but in this case my sd card shows none.

Most probably you need to mount sdcard. See "Mount" on twrp. If sdcard not checked, check it.

Try to recognize your device by adb, if it recognized, try flash stock recovery to the device
