Joying PX5 side buttons don't light up - MTCD Android Head Units Q&A

First, this unit is a Joying PX5 with hardware buttons on the left side, not the soft buttons. The Illumination wire is connected to ACC as far as I can tell, turning lights on and off doesn't change the main display's brightness.
The backlights of the buttons work, they turn on for 2-3 seconds after power up, then go off. I can change their colors through Elements option in the settings. Read a whole lot of posts, they all mention that there should be backlight option in Factory Settings. I can get to Factory Settings with password 126, but there is absolutely no option for backlights. And I can swear that they used to stay on when I bought the car 6 month ago with this unit already installed. Tried anything I would, with headlights on and off, etc. Don't really want to dig in there to connect ILL to headlight switched power as I'd like to buttons to stay on all the time. So what else to try?

turning off the XDA EXEC

Hello
How does ont turn off the XDA EXEC, i dont see any off button. the power button just turns the screen backlight on and off.
the reason why i wanted to know what it was is because i am porting my number across networks, and 02 told me to turn off my phone a number of times during the day, so that it could go into a boot up process.
There is no real way to trurn the device off, but what they will be wanting you to do is disable the phone section (do this by turning on flight mode, or by clicking on the green connections manager in the bottom and click on the phone button. Click the phone button again to turn it on.)
Start -> Programs - Wireless Manager -> All Off (This switches of the phone.
Then use the phone on/off button at the top of the screen there, to switch it back on and force your SIM to re-register with the network, which should have the desired effect your after.
Taking out the battery is the only real 'off' button.
thanks for the replies dudes
did you try holding the power button as well? that works on my wizard
not sure if it's true for all wm5 though
i held the power down button for some time and it blanked teh screen. when i held the power button again for a few seconds the screen came back to life, but this time there is no "back light(?)"
how do i get back the "back light(?)"

There remains a bug, it seems, that sometimes prevents the backlight from firing up when starting the device.
It used to happen on my XDA2i and still happens on my Exec.
I usually have to get it in a good light and go to settings and move the brightness slider to get it working.
Turning off the device, I find, is actually achieved by pressing the power switch before closing lid.
I find I get much more out of each charge if I do this rather than just close the lid.
That of course turns of the PDA functionality of the device. The radio (phone) service is still disabled via Flight Mode.
somehow i double posted...sry
thanks for the reply
i guess by pressing the power button, the pda goes ito some sort of sleep mode, since it does not boot up later, correct?
when it is charging up using a usb cable connected to my pc, the backlight is turned of, and no amount of pressing buttons seems to turn on the backlight, is that correct?
i checked out the brightness level sliders, there are 2, the
1. on battery which is somewhere in between
2. on power which is "slided" to the left, is that its correct position?
you will probably find it will selfboot at midnight.. this appears to have been intentional in the design of all the XDA's.
Thia can be a nuisance but it is probably to do with reseting timers. alarms etc
The backlight is configured to be on/off during external power and on battery in which ever setup you choose.
The actual levels you set it at are your choice ..
I set mine to be off after 5 mins on external power i.e. when charging except when i use tomtom and want it to stay on whilst externally powered.
On these occasions I change the setting before the journey
Your original question with reference to O2 making changes that required you phone to be off, in my experience, means not having the O2 sim in the device.
thanks for the reply dude
i think my questions have exceeded the remit of this thread. i will start another thread for the backlight questions

[Q] MY4GS Physical Buttons do not work randomly

When I turn on my phone sometimes non of the physical buttons will work, including the power button, so when the screen turns off I have no way to turn it back on. All I can do is pull the battery and wait to see if the next time it starts up it'll work. Using the slide will sometimes turn off the screen but the phone will still act as if the screen is on, so I have to turn it off and back on. And, still, sometimes opening the slide will disable all the physical buttons and I have to pull the battery and hope it will work. And sometimes I don't have to open the slide at all and the buttons will still stop working after a day or a few hours.
I know there has to be a physical problem, but why would the power button work every time when it's already off, but (today) 1 of 6 times after the phone booted up?
Thanks in advance.

Check your water damage indicator. I've had similar experiences with other phones, specifically one that went for a swim in the toilet. Water damage could explain it.
My other thought was the connector used for the keyboard, but i don't think that would affect the power button or the buttons below the screen.
If you dig through some of the posts, i believe you will find a guide on tearing this phone down. It may give you a good idea of how the device is put together and where to potentially look for failure.
*ninja edit*
Found the teardown guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1586028
The front buttons (home, menu, back, search and trackpad) are on one ribon cable
The power, volume buttons are on a different ribbon cable
and last the camera button is on it's own cable.
I suspect you have a rom problem if you are lossing all button functionality at once. Have you tried the keyboard home, menu, back, search buttons when it locks up?
I would do a factory reset if you are on the stock rom or reflash the rom you are using.
And if changing firmware/software dosent help know all buttons come down to the main flex

I was able to buy a used phone and from its and this phone's parts made a working phone. There was a problem with the flex cable that was causing the buttons to stop working when I slid the phone open.

Panel button RGB lights don't light up

I have bought a Isudar PX5 Android 8.0 unit with touch buttons below the screen.
The first time when I installed the device everythings was working fine including the touch button lights.
After I changed some settings in the factory settings menu (I disabled the TPMS app and changed the boot screen logo) the touch buttons light won't work anymore.
I have tried almost everything to solve this problem but without any results.
This is what I've done so far:
- Change settings in the factoy menu > Button light > By headlight, By Power, By power and headlight (nothing works).
- Connect the Illumni wire directly to the ACC power wire and checked the voltage.
- Switch the car headlight switch on/off.
- Reset the device to factory settings and reconnect al the wires.
I really hope that someone has a solution for this problem. I'm really thinking of a software issue because the lights were working in the beginning before I entered the factory settings.
Thanks for your help!
if the setting 'By Power' doesn't work then I would say it is a hardware failure. Only other thing I can think of is maybe you have the wrong panel light configuration set somehow - it has options for RGB etc

Q: Anyone else's screen not wake up/turn on & stay on properly?

Am i the only one whose screen, when it's off, doesn't turn back on properly? It registers both the fingerprint and the power "button" with haptic feedback, and the screen flickers quickly, but doesn't stay on until trying it finally works randomly, or if i use the squeeze gesture to open the camera immediately after pressing the power button. Locked and stocked too.
What is os version are you running?
Does this happen indoors or out?
I used to have an issue where auto brightness would immediately adjust to 0. The screen itself was on but the backlight was essentially turned of.
Only noticed it outside and auto-brightness was on (didn't even think that might be related to the issue! good call. If it happens again, I'll turn that off and see if the issue persists). Running 8.0.0.0 w/ 1.30.617.2 in USA
I have similar experience with my unlocked U12+ and may be Smart screen affected somehow screen back light. I've tried different combinations of settings (automatic Brightness on/off), Smart screen on/off and I noticed lack off problem in dark room. Even though some very strange reactions off haptic buttons (volume down by itself) makes me think about some general functionality problems of this device.
Has anyone noticed whether pressure on a particular point on the display affects the backlight?
When I squeeze moderately strong with two fingers in the area of the padlock (that is seen in a locked screen), it's the same as pressing the power button.
I've been using HTC flags for a long time, but for the first time I've come across such a touch-sensitive device. Every touch wakes him up, even in my pocket, which uses a battery.
I am terrified that there is no separate adjustment of the power and response style of touch-sensitive locations (haptic buttons, squeeze sensor)

Question Xtrons restart ?

Hi all. This forum came up in a search and wondering if anyone can help. I have an Xtrons PB7839BP head unit example for specs - ( https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32849856346.html ) where the on/off button wasn't working, but the volume on the same button did work. I tried to mess around doing an panel button reset and the unit started to reboot but didn't come back on.
Nothing happens on switching on the car, no button lights or nothing. The unit does come alive when selecting reverse and the reverse camera starts, all the buttons light up but am unable to do anything.
I've tried pressing the RST button in both its dead mode and where there is power with the reverse camera on. I was unsure how long to do this and tried several time with longer intervals. Where the unit is dead and doing this, the lights only blink on releasing the button, but nothing happens. When doing it with the camera and power seemingly on, it immediately closes the camera and all the button lights go out, with still nothing happening.
Not that great with these things, so if anyone has any suggestions, I'd be grateful if they explained it very simply !
Thanks
