Am i the only one whose screen, when it's off, doesn't turn back on properly? It registers both the fingerprint and the power "button" with haptic feedback, and the screen flickers quickly, but doesn't stay on until trying it finally works randomly, or if i use the squeeze gesture to open the camera immediately after pressing the power button. Locked and stocked too.
What is os version are you running?
Does this happen indoors or out?
I used to have an issue where auto brightness would immediately adjust to 0. The screen itself was on but the backlight was essentially turned of.
Only noticed it outside and auto-brightness was on (didn't even think that might be related to the issue! good call. If it happens again, I'll turn that off and see if the issue persists). Running 8.0.0.0 w/ 1.30.617.2 in USA
I have similar experience with my unlocked U12+ and may be Smart screen affected somehow screen back light. I've tried different combinations of settings (automatic Brightness on/off), Smart screen on/off and I noticed lack off problem in dark room. Even though some very strange reactions off haptic buttons (volume down by itself) makes me think about some general functionality problems of this device.
Has anyone noticed whether pressure on a particular point on the display affects the backlight?
When I squeeze moderately strong with two fingers in the area of the padlock (that is seen in a locked screen), it's the same as pressing the power button.
I've been using HTC flags for a long time, but for the first time I've come across such a touch-sensitive device. Every touch wakes him up, even in my pocket, which uses a battery.
I am terrified that there is no separate adjustment of the power and response style of touch-sensitive locations (haptic buttons, squeeze sensor)

In lock mode backlight stays on albeit on a lower level, but still. This causes problems like:
1. it uses valuable battery power
2. maybe even more important: it is too much light in my bedroom (need a good rest).
Furthermore: the best mobile ever will be gratefull if we don't use the power button for switching backlight on/off, showing this by a longer button live.
The best solution would of course be if when locking/unlocking the phone the backlight would go completely off/on.
I can't find this combination of functions (un)locking + backlight (on)off on the forum. Any genius ideas?

I have found that at times (not consistently every time) when I leave my TF just sitting there and "sleeping" (ie not being used) and then at the end of the day I pick it up, the screen and all sensors are frozen - ie touching anywhere on the screen has no effect, changing orientation of the TF has no effect, etc...
The only thing that seems to fix it is a force power down (12 sec hold of power button) and restart....
Is this a known issue? Clearly it's not hardware as once rebooted it works fine.
If you mean that the screen is black/blank and everything is unresponsive then yes, it's a known issue that quite a few people seem to be having intermittently, me included.

No the screen is not black - it lights up but none of the sensors are active (screen touch, orientation etc...)
I had this problem couple times touch screen did not respond except the home button.
After pressing home it started working fine
As the title says the phone's screen won't turn on after I ended a longer call, i have to press the power button to get the screen working.
Did it happen to you also?I have this phone for 2 months but it never happened in the beginning, this seems to be a recent issue.
Is it a hardware issue or a software bug?I've tested the proximity sensor and it works just fine as much i can tell, it switches the screen of and on, it never happened to wake the screen during a call and to activate random keys.
Another strange thing that i noticed during a call:If have the keypad up and i lay the phone horizontally the screen won't turn off if i hover my hand over the proximity sensor but if i put the phone vertically the screen goes off or if i hide the keypad the screen also goes instantly off.
Hi Ive had the Galaxy S8 about slightly more than a week, and Im facing this recurring issue whereby the pressure-sensitive home button starts to take light taps as heavy presses, and on some occasions when i turn off the screen, it turns on by itself thinking that I made a hard press. I can feel it as the vibration motors are activated. I tested it using *#0*#, but it works perfectly fine there. Anyone else facing these issues? Can anyone tell me if this is a hardware fault or software?
I've just witnessed it turned phone off and back on and back to normal now had over a week only known this happen once about an hour ago
Never seen it turn on my accident, but it does glitch out sometimes. At times it can register a touch as a hard-press, and it does the double vibration every time I touch the home button. This is fixed with a screen off - screen on switch though, so not a problem for me, and I haven't experienced it after the new update
Got myself the S8 secondhand and while it looks immaculate, I also have this problem. At times the pressure sensitivity doesn't work at all, sometimes it will go through periods of immediately pressing and depressing, and sometimes it'll register a soft press of the home button as a hard press.
Think this is a hardware error? I've tried this in Ultra Power Saving mode and without my case on, and it's always repeatable.

Double vibration? Isn't that what is meant to happen? The first vibration when pressing down simulates a real physical button being pushed down, and the second vibration when lifting your finger simulates you releasing the physical button. It's meant to happen, and it's not a hardware or a software problem.
What I meant with screen off - screen on solution is simply turning the screen off, and turning it back on again. It fixes a problem that occurs to me at times, where the double vibration happens every time I tap the virtual home button. Normally it's only meant to happen when pressing the virtual home button forcefully, not on light taps where no pressure is applied.
If the phone is in standby, with display turned off, if you double press the home button, or you keep it pressed, the phone will get back to phone mode with emergency call only. How to disable that damned festure? ?

Anyone faces a problem, where is it harder to wake up the phone screen via pressing power "button", after a longer rest in screen ( turn off ) mode ?
Encountered this problem, either the power "button" not responsive, or have to press much harder on the power "button" to wake up the screen
How to solve this problem ? Could it be the sensor haven't wake up ?
I noticed this "issue" some time ago, mostly when the phone's faced down, and I'm listening some music, the volume "buttons" don't response to my pressing, so I have to take the phone in hand and regulate the volume. But it's nice to read there are other users who have the same issue

I noticed it too, specially if the phone is quiet on the table and you try to adjust the volume it's like the sensors are not wake, but if you grab it, it senses it is in hands and works well.
It also happens if you are in a dark room, sometimes the keys just don't respond... I think it happens if you somehow block the proximity sensor when you grab it, maybe it "thinks" it's inside a handbag or so.. but it is annoying because it happens usually when i'm trying to turn on the flash with long squeeze
alright, this is the issue too.
there was once or twice i having issue with this problem, especially when the phone screen off for too long, much harder to wake up/turn on the screen through pressing the "power" button
the sensors has "been sleeping" for many hours though
I get what HTC developers try here. They don't want us to accidentally open the screen when it "thinks" you're not using it. But come on, how can they not have tested it thoroughly in day-to-day usage without noticing this "bug"
It's just sad that this has been an issue for quite a while but they wouldn't even care.
