I saw an article that described how to use ADB to enable the Two button navigation feature that doesn't show in the Betas.
I've also seen the posts about ADB way.
I was wondering if one has root. Is there a config file that the feature can be turned on from instead?
Here is the ADB command.
adb shell cmd overlay enable com.android.internal.systemui.navbar.twobutton
Just didn't know if someone could tell from this what config file it might be.

I love this - thank you. Do not like the Android 10 gestures at all. 2 button is my favourite !
Have you tried just omitting the adb shell part and bunging this into Termux?

Anybody finding that the back button puts the screen off if double tapped when on the launcher screen? I tried disabling double tap to sleep on the home button, but it still happens. Just curious to see if it happens everyone or if it's just mine. Thanks

Just tried and it doesn't happen for me.
The back button doesn't show if I'm on the home screen and if I tap the back button when the app drawer is open it tends to just open the app that's 'underneath' the button

Hi,
I'm looking for a way to power off the One without using the power button (I don't want to wear it out!). I expected there to be a tile I could add to quick settings but I can't find one.
I've tried installing a shutdown/reboot app but as I'm using quick boot, these apps do a 'full' shutdown which is not what I want.
Have I missed something or is this functionality missing?
Thanks.
You could use terminal emulator or tasker to make a script/task to shutdown and make a shortcut on your home screen.

Double tapping the notification bar will turn the screen off. Don't know if that's what your wanting thought .

Quick boot is a setting in dev options that is sort of like hibernate. When you power off the phone, it can be booted back up in 2 seconds.

If I knew what the command was to put the device into quick boot hibernation then yes I could write a script.
Yes I know about double tapping the notification bar to put it to sleep (turn off the screen), and yes I also have the double tap to wake. But I'm still having to press the power button to 'power off' (I realise most people don't do this very often!).
Thanks...

I'm using the standard CM11S. I tried adding that sleep tile but long pressing it just takes me to the display settings page. I'd have been happy if that had worked!
Thanks anyway.
I use nova launcher. I use a gesture. double tap associated with screenoff app to turn off the screen. Double tap wake double tap in the home turn off the screen.
Hi All,
So I have a very odd issue. I have googled and searched the threads, but I cannot find any mention of the same issue from anyone else. Here is my problem:
When the screen is completely off (I have "Always On" turned off), sometimes when I push the power button the lock screen does not come up. Instead, I can barely make out tiny white text at the very bottom of the display that is half cut off. Obviously I cannot take a screenshot to show you. So I push the power button a couple of times and then it works.
Anybody have a clue what is going on?
Thanks in advance!

Auto hibernate. Just make a home screen shortcut and tap it B4 u lock your device

I must be an idiot. Can you clarify? That sounds like an annoying extra step to have to tap an app prior to each time I lock my phone. Maybe I'm misunderstanding?
that text is greenify is working sign ..
when you press power button when it's working, you won't get screen wake. Need to wait until it's finished,
or press power once (to stop greenify process) then wait a little while until text disappears.

No it's a hibernate shortcut you don't actually open the app. just tap it and it'll put everything to sleep then just lock your phone. I don't use auto hide unless I have root. On nonrooted phones it takes forever to do it when you go to lock your phone and in my case it would take forever for me to be able to unlock my phone so I find it easier to just tap the shortcut then lock
Note the lil icon in the bottom right. It just puts stuff to sleep, doesn't open the app

Hi
I want to create a shortcut for one hand mode (3x home button) so that it is an action like "back" on the navigation bar so that I can put it in my swiftly switch pro menu and access one hand mode with a single action instead of pressing the home button 3x.
Any ideas how to do that? (I just switched from iPhone to Android and am a newbie)

Hi man. I'm from Russia, firmware may differ. But I have a choice: a jesture or a 3-push of a button. I prefer jesture.
To make it work you should swype diagonally from edge of screen (down and right edge). Also, if you hold a bit longer, you can change the size of the screen (bigger / less). See "One-handed mode Galaxy s8" on YouTube
It is completely legitimate to make a shortcut button or icon to one hand mode instead of thosr cumbersome gestures.
Here is how to do it :
Simply run this terminal command from any method or script '
am startservice -n com.sec.android.easyonehand/.EasyOneHandService
This works on the galaxy s5. This rune the service to activate the one hand mode.

There is, at least according to my intense research and my logic, no way to open directly an app in pop-up mode. Indeed even Samsung doesn't have a shortcut for this, at least not at my knowledge.
But, it is possible to launch the multi window launcher and then launch an app from here in terminal with root :
am startservice com.sec.android.app.FlashBarService/.MultiWindowTrayService
This command is only for the launcher. Normally there should also be a terminal command to put the currently on-screen app in pop-up, just like the slide from corner gesture.

Yes and no, what I mean is that the app is not directly launched in pop-up because you need the extra step of opening the side launcher.
One way is as I did, to replace the home button with the side launcher (1 tap = side launcher, 2 taps = home screen) , it is possible with Nova Launcher.
What would be equally perfect is to find a way to open the app directly in pop-up with an activity on the home screen or, once the app is launched thanks to Tasker for example force the app to go in pop-up automatically. It must be possible because the side corner swipe to put the app in pop-up is simply an activity or service or some thing of some sort, but I haven't manage to find the command line.

On this android version it is easier because there are root apps in Play store or in Xposed to manage this, isn't there? I think a saw few apps claiming to manage multiwindow for this version.

Button Mapper on the Play Store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=flar2.homebutton&hl=en
If your device is rooted, you have complete ability to remap the Bixby Button. You can disable the Bixby assistant, it does not need to be enabled for this to work. There are no compromises with this method. You can get rid of Bixby and program whatever single, double and long press actions you want.
If your device is not rooted, you can still remap Bixby using an experimental method. This method also works with Bixby disabled, and will allow you to map whatever actions you like to a single press or long press. It requires running a command in adb shell once. After this, the Bixby button can be remapped with Button Mapper. A slight inconvenience, but it works.
If you don't like the stuttering that occurs on Samsung devices with certain Accessibility features enabled, got to Advanced Options and select "Remap Bixby only"
Sweet, installing this now. I'll let you know if it works on my phone. Just what I was looking for.

It works fantastic on my cricket wireless s8 with unlocked firmware on it. Just tells me I will need to resubmit the adb command anytime I restart my phone. No big deal. This is great. No more Bixby..haha.
Its working just fine, i do not have any bixby apks on my device, and with root even working with screen off. Thanks @flar2 for your great work again.

Hi flar,
Quick question, I already remapped my Bixby button to ASSIST action to have Google assistant on button press.
I am therefore rooted.
Would I need to remap the button to the stock feature, or can I leave it like this ?
Works like a charm ? thanks ?

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking. You should be able to remap whatever you like. With root you can do almost anything.

My question is, should I revert the Generic Keylayout to its original state to use that app properly or not.
The only issue I have seen is now the volume slider only has 4 steps of volume instead of the 15 steps it used to have. When I do a volume up up or down it goes 25% each way. I uninstall this and it goes back to normal.
Am I missing something or what is the ADB command that I need to use?
Never mind.

Oh I see. You should not need to change the key layout, the point of the app is to modify without having to do that. It may not even work correctly if you've modified the keylayout file.
Really appreciate this app! Got the pro already.
About the Tasker intent, how does it work really?
Can't wait to test this app, although I have a question..why does this app needs access to observe the text you write, thy is this needed? Until now I used bxActoins which did not needed this but yours doesn't need bixby services enabled so I would like to try it.. I'm just curious why is this needed
EDIT: Just tried the app and its working really really well, I am very pleased with the result on non-rooted phone Is there a way to add the google now screen scan option to open? I used to get this smart screen search with the google now on my HTC 10 but now with this I can only see it opens either google assistant or google search..
Thank you for all your hard work, I appreciate it
App works great but it's limited on the functions of the button. Would be nice to be able to start up any app. Also, after uninstalling and rebooting, I can't seem to get bxActions to work again. The button is just disabled and doesn't do anything.
so when i use 3 button navigation and i repeatedly press back or home button from an app it just shows for a split second a ghost image of the app i was in. a screen recording is attached as well.

Do you have any Magisk modules installed that could conflict with systemUI?
If not, have you installed any apps that require root access/adb commands to work properly? (eg. systemui tuner)

no nothing of that sort. i don't even have root on this and i dont have any apps that require adb commands. do you have the same issue on your end? try repeatedly tapping home/ back button on your pixel and let me know if you have the same issue.
I'm setup for no button/gestures atm with magisk & the aosp module which gives me mostly total control over gestures. If u ever want to try out root, now's the time...it's easier than ever! Just sayin'...cuz 3 button is prolly lot long for this world. Not only can u micro-manage the UI, you can squeeze approx. 20-30% more battery time outta android...usually. Switched to 3-button just to see...nothin' tho. Watched ur clip...strange indeed.

Luckily, no. I have tried to replicate the issue, doesn't happen my end.
I was having trouble with some apps previously that required adb to work. They would often make my quick settings glitch out, or sometimes have a similar effect when closing apps as what you currently experience.
Try to switch to gesture navigation, do a cold reboot, then switch back to 3 button?

What is it that you'd be looking for in a screen recording? I have no input lag when touching the home/back button, and there's no laggy animation for the app minimizing.
