With Verizon on current 2.42.617.1, we receive several LTE Bands, which is good in most places with strong Verizon signal. S-0ff until next reboot has been achieved and there is TWRP recovery, root choices, and several custom roms available which make the U11 experience better.
Note if you unlock your device: so far no updates will relock an unlocked device or deny you the ability to stay unlocked.
This is a well-made and for the most part, now problem-free phone. Most of the earlier Verizon connection issues have been resolved.
So far only the Sprint version is out in the wild in the USA. The "unlocked" verizon - ATT, Verizon, Tmobile - is not out yet. Why not just get that one?

Yes, ordered it in first hours of availability: coming this afternoon via FedEx.
Ordered the 'unlocked' one alright.
But in the past I bought the Unlocked HTC/Google PixelXL, and Verizon shortly sent out software that would eliminate
the possibility of unlocking the bootloader - different from carrier unlocked.
I just don't want future bootloader unlock to get prohibited by putting in the Verizon sim. Once burned, now cautious...
Oh, man, this had better not be the case.
I will be returning it if this happens.
At least my LG G3 is unlocked and works the way I want it to.
Got mine already, unlocked model with verizon sim. It's true that this phone does not seem to have cdma radios. So you MUST have advanced calling turned on in order for this phone to work with a verizon sim. So if you aren't blanketed in 4glte service and relied on cdma for phone calls you are SOL. This phone only supports VoLTE for calls. Just an fyi/disclaimer in case cdma is important for you.

This is partially why I am waiting. So see how much others find this to be an issue & come here and talk about it. It seems to me it will be a BIG issue for me as I do find 3G and 1x at times when I travel remotely.
We have zero idea when VZW will be fully moving over and off the CDMA - it could be years and in the meantime, I feel like I need that ability personally.

Actually my Verizon business rep is being told that they need to phase out 3g phones over the next two years. They aren't even allowed to sell 3g only phones anymore, that's why advanced calling is on by default now on new devices. They expect to start re-purposing those 3g towers by 2020, maybe sooner, who knows.
I ordered the "Verizon" U11 (which is actually just the unlocked version). Just got it, opened the box and booted up, went through the HTCdev Unlocking process successfully. Popped in my VZW already activated SIM card and got the message: "Would you like to install settings and apps from your carrier? Existing settings will be replaced." Choices are to install now or later so I said later. Gave it time then rebooted and chose to install the Settings/Apps. Looks like it added some VZ Bloat and also modified some network/call settings, but nothing else.
@WorldOfJohnboy - Interesting. I got none of that when I put my Verizon SIM in my unlocked U11. It works making phone calls, texts, etc., but no WiFi Calling, no Visual Voicemail, no Caller ID, no HD Voice. Only VOLTE is offered. Didn't ask me to install settings or apps. Wonder if I should do a wipe and set up from scratch, because I'd actually like those things to work.
@WorldOfJohnboy can you use Titanium Backup or other method to freeze/remove VZW apps?
Did you have or do you now have Mobile Hotspot enabled?

I was actually shocked as well.
Can anyone on Verizon make a few screenshots?
1. Settings > More > Cellular networks
2. Settings > More > Cellular networks > Preferred network type
3. Phone (the dialer app) > Settings > Calls
4. *#*#4636#*#* > Phone information
These screenshots would clarify which features are available on Verizon.

These options did not work for me. The menus are different than your directions.
There's no CDMA. No GSM options. Only voice over LTE.
Option number four didn't work for me at all.
I only received my u11 last night. Calling is good in my LTE Zone. No Wi-Fi calling options available. This is after I allowed Verizon to install its apps and settings. I don't believe that there were any changes to the menu. I didn't see Wi-Fi calling at all.
The phone is absolutely beautiful but it is slippery and looks fragile as hell. Even in the included plastic clear case I question its resiliency.
However, this is the first Verizon phone I've had where mobile hotspot worked out of the box! Usually I have to unlock root and ROM for that.

Okay, sorry, I just assumed it would be the same as the stock Android 7. It's strange that #4 doesn't work though.
Could you try to find screens similar to #1 and #2 in the settings menu? It should say something about cellular/network. #3 might not be there at all if HTC is using their own dialer app. I've attached examples how it should look.

Sorry, but screenshotting and uploading are too difficult for me at the moment.
None of those options exist for Verizon. LTE is the _only_ option for calling. No voice over WiFi, No CDMA.
There are some GSM-only options, but they don't come up in my phone. Selecting them goes to a forever-waiting "Reading settings..."
Apparently you can use SIP calling for Internet calls.
Hope this helps. I need to get on the unlock process and ROM installation before I decide whether I keep it.

Here you go! Shots from the *#*#4636#*#* and Phone Menus. BTW this phone is Working Perfectly with my Verizon wireless Sim card in Miami,Fl (Calls,Texts,MMS,GVoice Voicemails, Data, etc) :good:
I am having problems connecting to TotalWireless Mobile Data with my new Pixel 2. (I can make calls and get texts without problem - just no access to Mobile Data). I have been on the phone with Customer Service (with Google, TotalWireless and Verizon - which provides the service for TotalWireless) and nothing we have tried has helped (Factory Resets, new SIM, etc). We've even had 3 way conversations and no one can figure it out.
First, I am wondering if anyone else out there has successfully connected a new Pixel 2 to Total Wireless. One of the customer service reps thought perhaps the phone was "too new" to be supported on their network. If I know someone has succeeded, that would be helpful.
Second, the Verizon Customer Service guy said the problem is that I can't edit my APN Settings. When I go to "Settings / Network & Internet / Mobile Network / Access Point Names" I am given an error: "Access Point Name settings are not available for this user". Google confirmed there is no way to enable this option. It sounds like more recent versions of Android stopped allowing users to edit these values - instead they are automatically set by the carrier. The carrier said if I could enter "TRACFONE.VZWENTP" for Name and Access Point Value it would fix my issue.
I have debated trying to root the phone, but it sounds a bit too complicated for me. (I did try to enable some of the Developer Options on the phone, and I tried to Reset the APN values but nothing helped.). I know my SIM card is good because when I put it in my daughter's phone, her phone and Mobile Data worked fine.
The Google Pixel 2 allows Google Customer Service to do a screenshare on your phone (a new feature....and only if you give them access). They can't actually click on any buttons - you have to do that. That is a nice feature. But, they didn't find any way to get around this APN issue either.
Does anyone have any other suggestions for how to edit APN settings on the Google Pixel 2 without gaining ROOT access. While I am an engineer, the process does sound a bit too complicated and risky to try on a brand new (and expensive) phone.
Thanks.
Same for me. I use Tracfone with Verizion and I cannot add a new APN to the empty list as well.

Blue color?
If Google and no
Try factory reset without the sim.
Go through setup
Go in and try and add a apn.
Then put in your sim.

Same exact issue for me. On phone with Total Wireless and they are just instructing me to change the APN settings which pop up as "Access Point Names are not available for this user." Phone/SMS working fine but mobile data is never going to get through without the proper APN. Looking online for some sort of profile setting that can be opened on the net that will set the APN to the correct settings without having to manually enter them (i've done that with iPhones in the past) but i don't have high hopes.
Sadly, this beautiful piece of hardware may soon be heading back to the google popup.
Same issue here. New Pixel 2 5-inch on Straight Talk Wireless - which uses Verizon towers. Says "Access point names are not available for this user" and I can't add an APN, edit an APN, see a list of APNs, etc. - only option in three-dot menu is to reset to defaults. I've factory reset the phone four times, checked the sim's placement, etc. Have been on phone and chat with both Google and Straight Talk for hours and they can't fix it. Latest is Google had me put phone into developer mode and create and submit a bug report. If they don't fix it soon I'm sending it back to Google. Ridiculous for Google's flagship, $800 phone to have such a fundamental problem.

Did you buy the Blue or bought a Pixel intended for Verizon(popups also is Verizon)
If you did then I believe best to return it and get an unlocked one. Then the options would be different.
If one of you guys have an unlocked version. Try factory reset WITHOUT the sim in it and go through the setup process. Once that done try putting in the sim and restart the phone. Then see if you can switch the APN.

I had this problem activating on Straight Talk. I actually put a sim in from another Verizon MVNO and it added the APN for me. FWIW, it was Page Plus. I used to be on their plans before switching to Straight Talk. I kept the sim just in case I wanted to switch back some day. Just swapping sims made the APN for Verizon pop up with the wrong name. I changed the name to the correct one, then I was good to go.

Wow. this is super interesting. Will give it a shot. I can't wait for Page Plus to figure out why no one is sticking on their plans.
I bought the totally unlocked Pixel from the Google store. (Not the one that is pre-configured with Verizon as the carrier)
I did try several factory resets - with and without the SIM card. (These phones comes with some eSIM so do work without a SIM - unlike the new iPhones).
No matter which way I restarted, was never able to add an APN. This feature seems to be disabled in newer Android versions. And the "Reset" option (under three dots in APN menu) didn't change anything.

Might need to put in a T-Mobile SIM or some other sim that'll let you modify the APN. The swap.

I got mine working. I took out the Straight Talk Wireless (Verizon) sim and put in an old, inactive sim from another network (Mobiphone from Vietnam - the only sim I had lying around). That allowed me to edit the APN settings, and I edited one of the Mobiphone settings so that the name and APN were both TRACFONE.VZWENTP, then saved it. Then swapped the Straight Talk Wireless (Verizon) sim back in and was still able to see the TRACFONE.VZWENTP APN. I selected that and my LTE mobile data immediately started working. What a pain in the ass. Still amazed that such a hokey workaround was required to get an $800+ flagship phone working, but at least it's working. Good luck!
I'm having the same issues, no mobile data or sms pics. Brand new unlocked google pixel 2 xl. Was with Net10 and tried 4 hours with their support and no love. Then switched to Total Wireless and no luck either and have spent 5 hours with their support people and 4 hours with google support and their both clueless. A factory reset of the phone did not help.

The above mentioned trick work, thanks. First I tried my earlier Net10 sim and the APN settings weren't imported. Then I was able to find one of my older Straight Talk sim cards and the Pixel 2 imported its APN settings and then I was able to edit it to Total Wireless APN settings and put the TW sim back in and now I'm in business. Wonder if this is google's fault or the way TW and Net10 makes their sim cards. I suppose i'm satisfied for now, but good grief!
Interesting that using an old SIM card might help you edit APN settings...

So interesting that entering an old SIM card worked! When talking to Google support, the woman said she too was seeing that the APN menu was disabled on the sample Pixel 2 she had in the support center. I got the impression from her that this was an Android 8.0.0 feature and NOT related to the carrier I had chosen. I saw another post in another thread about someone taking an old (larger) SIM card (from their old cell phone) and they cut it down to fit in the Pixel 2 phone (which is a smaller SIM) and that it worked. Perhaps I'll have to try that!
Thanks!

The only old SIM card I have (from TMobile) is too big. Does anyone know if it will work if I just go in and buy an unactivated SIM card at the TMobile store (for 10$) and try it with that? Or will the phone not accept the SIM until it gets activated with that service? (I don't want TMobile - I want Total Wireless service). If I asked a friend to borrow their SIM card, would making the APN changes alter their SIM in any way they might not like?

You can always ask a friend if they have T-Mobile. I believe it doesn't have to be active because if you try to do anything it routes you to T-Mobile portals.

So, I took my old T-Mobile SIM card, cut it to the small nano size ( with exacto knife and nail file). The phone started up fine and now allowed me to add a new TW APN value and select it. But when I put my old TW card back in, mobile data still didnt work. And APN menu still didn't show any values to chose from.

Have a chance to get a good deal on a unlocked sprint version.
Then go for it. But be sure to be Sim unlocked and lte bands accepted. The Korean sells for 800$ on eBay. Also can be flashed with European firmware and supports secondary screen. Imo has better quality also software aside. Noticed with LG G7... If you got better deal then go for it.
Are you sure it's unlocked and if so, how was it unlocked? I have a Sprint model and I'm having to wait ‘til my 50 service days are up to get Sprint to unlock it. I've contacted some pretty good unlocking services and hearing the same thing from all; As of now only Sprint can unlock it.
As we all know Sprint 5G service area (like all others) is very small but they're still charging everyone who activates this phone on their service for a 5G service plan regardless of whether they have 5G service in your area or not. I got a great deal on a 3rd party phone but it was locked which I knew going in. As soon as it's unlocked, I'm going to try GFI. BTW, it's a great phone.

Wont be sure until I put my sim card in but it owner says sim unlocked. No interest in 5g anytime soon. If possible will disable/limit to lte.
One thing's for sure.... LG phones drop like a rock! I couldn't wait but I’m thinking in two months this phone's (sprint model) probably going to be selling for $400. Imo the only thing holding the price up for now is there just aren't very many out in the wild. Kind of strange really, since according to the Ifixit breakdown, it has the same Qualcomm 5G X50 modem as both the Galaxy S10 5G phone and the new Note 5G. Otherwise the specs are very similar. I guess it’s all perceived value.

Yeah, LG phones drop like a rock.
Some vendor on eBay was selling the Korean V50 with dual screen for $529......yeah.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/LG-V50-Thi...972866&hash=item1f015f8485:g:k9wAAOSw4kZdX2mi
I am just waiting for these to drop even more if that. Doubt the 5G works in other markets.
were you able to use wifi calling ? were you able to eliminate the 'activate' message. Thanks
Finally Sim unlocked and ported over to Simple Mobile, a Tmob Mvno. It was relatively painless and took less than an hour for the actual port. No reason to be on Sprint right now if you don't have 5G service in your area. I was on the phone with Sprint yesterday for at least an hour and a half and gave them every chance to do something about my bill. I asked them point blank why anyone would pay for 5G service when it's not even in their area? Their response was just lame. I'm guessing it will be at least one if not two years before 5G is working in a wide spread fashion in a lot of cities in the US.
Now, as for the service on Tmob's network, it's only been about a hour since I switched but have made couple of phone calls and run a couple of speed tests. Phone call quality seems same same and speed test speeds seemed the same as if I were on Tmob., 15 down and about 7-10 on the upload. Now the freaking really good news. Simple mobile is running a special for 3GBs data and unlimited talk, unlimited text. at $25 per month. If you do auto pay after taxes it's $22 and change.
are all t mobile bands available? Does it work with t mobile 5G?
As of right now, there seems to be a problem with the APN record on the sprint model. Sprint, the scumbag company that it is, has locked the APN. They'll unlock the phone to except other sim cards, no problem. But when your new provider tries to register your phone on their network it doesn't fully complete the process. In other words, part of the process is that a new APN record is pushed down to the phone identifying the new MMS DNS server for that network. I use Simple Mobile which is a MVNO of Tmob but Sprint has locked the APN on my V50. I;m still able to get data but can't send/receive pictures via text messages.
So be ware.

does wifi calling work? how are updates handled . thank you
We have a pair of sprint unlocked V50 and just got an update over the metropcs service.
In the service menu it says voice over wifi is provisioned but in the settings network voice over wifi is off and the switch wont stay to on position when i toggle to on.
I still see my cellular connection in the notification area disappear then reappear.
Is this normal behavior or is it trying to activate in background? Maybe it checking for 5G?
I think it using more batt then usual possibly
Now....... finally, some good news and this took a bit of doing. To start off with I originally tried an old Fi sim card I had to port out of Sprint after those scumbags unlocked my V50. I kept getting a T077 error during the Google Fi activation process and Fi support just kept telling me that the V50 wasn't a supported device and they couldn’t help. I told them I thought it was a bad sim card so they suggest I pick up a new one at Best Buy. So, after a trip down to Best Buy I found out that they rarely have Fi cards in stock so I picked up a Simple Mobile (tmob mvno) sim for a buck and the port/activation sort of worked in that I successfully ported my number from Sprint and I was able to make calls and get data but couldn't receive/send pictures (MMS) in text. So, I said screw it and order another Fi Sim card thru the Google site and waited a week. I got it yesterday late and tried it this morning and crap it didn't work with the same activation error, T077. I have been scouring the internet for days for any info the error code and somewhere along the way I remember seeing something about taking the mvno card out and then putting the Fi card in and trying to activate without rebooting the phone. Now remember this is really all about not being able to edit the APN record with the correct DNS info so you can receive MMS picture by text. Anyway, after slipping in the FI sim card to my V50 the activation process suddenly squeaked on thru and low and behold I'm now running on Google Fi with MMS working and APN record is correctly updated the Fi info. I think the reason it worked was that the activation process thought I was a Tmob customer. When it asked me for account info to port my existing number to GFI the dialog screen show things like.... Enter your T-Mobile account number and asked what was the name on my T-Mobile account. But for whatever reason it worked and now I'm finally free of Sprint.
It worked for me but your mileage may very.

What sms app do you use? Lg or Google? Cuz with Google messaging I have fully enabled RCS. Sending pics and videos over data and wifi. Why bother with mms when RCS technology is way better?
If I try to edit an existing APN it will no let me all the options are grayed out
If I try to add a new APN it says that it saves but its nowhere listed. I changed carriers and this is driving me nuts. Any ideas or similar problems?
EDIT - finally got it. no idea why but if you have the wrong number for the one setting (which was provided by the company) it won't save. finally found a reddit thread with the fix

do you have VoLTE with your new carrier?

Yes, VoLTE has never been a problem. I've had an absolute nightmare switching providers though all because of using a Xiaomi phone
I have always used month to month cell providers because I never know what device I want to get and don't want to be locked into a carrier that won't work as well depending on my device.
anyways, I had been using Straight Talk in the US because what was great about straight talk is you could pick the sim you wanted and use any towers AT&T (gsm), Sprint/Verizon (cdma), Tmobile (Gsm)
I had been using straigh talk with AT&T towers for years. The mix fold worked fine on it.
I saw that AT&T was offering a full year of service with 16gb per moth on their prepaid plan for $300. great deal I thought. I was already using the mix fold 2 on AT&T towers with no problems.....so I thought.
so I order the AT&T service, to do this you have to start porting your number and I do that. Well, once I get the sim it will not activate. I come to find out that AT&T will not activate any Xiaomi devices on their network. I thought no problem, just activate it on another phone and then put the sim in the mix fold 2. That will not work either, the entire account is based on IMEI and it won't work in another phone according to everyone on reddit, etc. So my phone number that I started porting never completed because I could not activate the sim. So ATT sends my phone number port back to straight talk. straight talk claims the number is gone they ported it out.
its an absolute nightmare. after a few days Straight Talk finally figures out they do have my number but they tell me in order to get it on my account again I have to activate a new straight talk sim. straight talk was recently just bought by verizon. so I can only activate a straight talk verizon sim to get my number working. Verizon ties everything to IMEI as well. None of the 5 or so phones I have will work to activate cause they are all gsm only. I ended up having to borrow a friends verizon phone to get a sim activated and the number back in my account to then port it out to Mint Mobile that users Tmobile towers. It was an absolute nightmare and took hours on the phone with clueless CSRs all because I want to use this mix fold 2 phone.
anyways, Tmobile pretty much sucks for data speeds but I am done. I'll live with it. I've never seen it connect to 5G. I have seen LTE+. I can't figure out if its so bad because of the phone or if tmobile just sucks that much in this area. I might go to the tmobile store to see if the acual tmobile is better and if they are nerfing the mvno prodivers.
anyways, from what I can see if you want to use the Mix Fold 2 in the USA you have to use Tmobile towers. none of the AT&T mvno's like Boost mobile will let you use xiaomi it seems, but i'm not completely sure either.
I have always been an Android man because all of my forensics training, etc, has been on Android, but I will admit that iPhones have one big advantage - they work on any network anywhere. I realized a couple of weeks ago with the Xiaomi that just because your carrier allows VoLTE doesn't mean they allow VoLTE Roaming. I travelled from Nova Scotia to Colorado and although I was connected there to T-Mobile towers, I had no VoLTE and couldn't place voice calls. I happened to put a friend's SIM into my device in Denver - and bang, instant VoLTE. I put my Canadian SIM back in (which gives me VoLTE at home) and no VoLTE. Although more and more carriers are provisioning VoLTE for the device, very few have provisioned VoLTE Roaming. Android needs to get its act together, and stand up to the carriers like Apple does.
So I've got an unlocked Motorola One Action. I've used it for a month or so on some service (I forget) and I switched to Mint Mobile. I used Mint Mobile (T Mobile service) for a year or so with no issues. Unfortunately I didn't like paying $120 in advance for 3 months service. I wanted something cheaper. Boost Mobile is $25 a month.
Anyway, Boost's website says my phone will work with their service, however Motorola says it will not..
Boost uses AT&T network.. here's what Motorola's website says:
AT&T Compatible & supports VoLTE
Boost Not supported
Other MVNOs on AT&T network Compatible & supports VoLTE
How in the heck can something be compatible with AT&T and other MVNO's but not Boost? Kind of odd. I assume there's no hack or fix around this?
Now I'm stuck with no phone service because I already made the switch. I either have to wait to switch back when I get more money or when I get money to buy a compatible phone.
It is possible that AT&T depreciated the part of the network that Boost leases from them.
You could (try to) configure the APN settings manually.
APN (Access Point Name) is the carrier settings/configuration.
Some are general (generic) others are specific to the carrier.
AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, Vodafone, ...
Will include settings for their own network(s).
Setting(s) for 5G and VoLTE to work on their network for example.
Quick Google search for boost mobile APN settings.
Finish Activation - [my.boostmobile] - [WebSite] - Link
Cheers.

Thanks. The APN settings are set. Boost has you download something called "Carrier App" which auto configures two different APN's.. I may try to factory reset the phone also, but I'm not hopeful it'll work. I'll most likely have to wait until next week when I get paid again to get another service.
Besides, AT&T sucks. I didn't look to see what network Boost uses in my area before switching. I just looked that it was $25 a month for unlimited data (30GB high speed before speeds slow). The lady at work says to people who enter our building that reception is bad in our building if you want to make a call you probably have to step outside. It's because she's on AT&T. I was on Tmobile (Mint) and I had perfect reception anywhere.
