Tethering and Hotspot - Motorola One Vision Questions & Answers

My Hotspot and Tethering icon is greyed out. http://motorola-global-en-roe.custh...nd-use-portable-hotspot---motorola-one-vision
Motorola says that this is due to carrier subscription, but every phone I've had this Sim card in has allowed Hotspot to function.
Does this mean it's disabled because this is an international version of the phone?
Is there a way around this that doesn't require software modification?

I got XT1970-3, reteu. Hotspot works fine here and usb/bluetooth tethering can be enabled too.

Well, I got into a fiasco with AT&T. A friend was telling me that he had to update his pixels imei with the carrier. I chatted with AT&T and the result was that they shut off my wireless data for 4 days. Data was restored at midnight last night, but I still don't have tethering.

After the OTA this week, the tethering is active, but the rom dropped me from LTE to HSPA+. I guess I'm going to dig around to see how to fix that.

Cannot get LTE on my AT&T LG G2 only 4G

I'm running 4.4.2 on my LG G2 for AT&T
My wife just got the same phone and her phone shows 4G/LTE Mine shows only 4G
I checked our APN settings for both and they're the same
I checked through the 4636 code through the phone and it shows only the HSPA letters where hers shows up once again with LTE
ANY advice would be great
Try turning data off then on again, it will force it to search for the network.

i tried that one...and i tried the 4646 code and theres no option to change the NETWORK type...this friggin sux...no LTE on this phone and only "4G"...been tryng to figure this one out..
any advice much appreciated.
Maybe replace it?
If this is a new phone that you haven't tampered with, I suggest that you exchange it. New phones don't need any change in settings to connect to LTE out of the box.
Maybe it's a hardware problem. Did this problem just appear out of nowhere? (maybe after the update)?
Like the poster above if its stock return it otherwise reflash to stock to confirm the issue is still there, here's another thread dealing with the same issue http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2702386

you might be 'ROAMING'
this happens to me. i think theres no att tower near me, i think they use someone elses lte tower, but half of the android phones ive used need roaming enabled to connect to lte in my area. try that it might work.. its in the normal settings app under networks enable all roaming. never had any extra charges. att covers the nation and doesnt count local roaming.
BUT i agree with this guy if my suggestion doesnt work

Update PRL to restore LTE???

I constantly get stuck in 3g and when I update the PRL, my signal will switch to LTE and work fine for a while. Is this common or do I have a defective phone? I went to the Samsung reps @ Best Buy and all he did was reinstall an update.

I would check which APN your phone goes to on the phone, Settings -> More Networks -> Mobile Networks -> click either Access Pint Names (to check which APN selected) or click Network Type (make sure automatic or CDMA/LTE, not just 3G).
Its set to CMDA/LTE and the APN is APN2 LTE (n.ispsn) internet. There are no other APNs.

Ok after some troubleshooting, it has nothing to do with the PRL. I can put the phone in and out of airplane mode and it will aquire LTE. Is this happening to anyone else or should I take my phone back for repair?

There's no way to repair it. I've had this issue since I bought the S5 at launch. This is just how it is until the towers are completely upgraded. Calling Sprint gets you no where most of the time about this issue. They will say the phone is defective but you can find many many ppl having this issue.

I know that it's not a real solution, but I found an app, LTE Discovery, that does this in the background. So far I have not seen 3g on my phone.

I had to pay $1.99 for full access, but there is an option to only cycle when on 3g. It does it all in the background, and doesn't really drain the battery. My only complaint is that it stays active and cycling while on wi-fi in a non LTE area. I've only had that in one place in KC, but no wireless service works at that location.
On 4G LTE, PRL's update automatically each time they connect to a tower. I think only 3G and earlier did you have to manually update PRL's. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that's right. So technically, just cycling through airplane mode would update your PRL
my S5 won't receive calls or text
My S5 won't receive calls or texts. I spent hours with Sprint on the line, they were sending updates, having me manually program it and nothing. They would call my cell and straight to VM. They would send text, and i wouldnt get them.
I'm having to send it back, I'm not sure I will get another S5. I'm thinking a phone should be able to receive/make actual calls.

You are probably in an area that is in the partial stages of a Spark Upgrade. If you disable LTE bands 41 and 26 but leave LTE band 25 enabled, you will have stable data.

Wi-Fi tethering?

Now that we have root will Wi-Fi tethering be obtainable? I didn't see it mention in the v10 forums as being done yet either. Maybe T-Mobile has that blocked?
Sent from my LG-H830 using Tapatalk
You should try out Wifi Tether Router. It's a paid app on the app store that is pretty sweet. I have it working on the Galaxy Note 4. T-Mobile has gotten really good at blocking it but I've had more recent success with it.
If you get the app please report back to us if it worked or not!
I tried it but yes T-Mobile had gotten better at blocking. When I use it it continues to turn wifi on, even after I end the app the wifi will continue to turn on. I ran out and bought the phone AGAIN as soon as I saw it was rooted in hopes I could get tethering working. I'm returning the phone, it'll be the last carrier phone I ever buy.

I don't know if that's a T-Mobile blocking issue as much as it might just be a problem with that version of the app. You should see if previous versions work better first.
Maybe I should have. I'm going to wait for the next round of Nexus phones.

Hotspot subscription bypass

I have been using the network signal refresher to bypass the subscription check. I updated to 7.1.1 and it is not working anymore. I tried a couple different apps. They don't appear to actually refresh the signal anymore.
Looks like I will be rooting in the near future unless an app update fixes it. I glad I got the phone directly from Google. Still hanging onto my unlimited plan on Verizon.

You can root Verizon and Google Pixel phones. Either way why wouldn't you root for tethering?

The network signal refresher just got updated yesterday/today and it looks like it refreshes the signal like before the update to 7.1.1. Have not tested hotspot though
Another network signal refresher (pro) update today. Haven't gotten yesterdays or todays to work to bypass the subscription check. Even the actual refreshing of the signal seems hit or miss since the 7.1.1 update. May give in and root since popping the sim card to tether is becoming tedious. Anyone had a different experience with the updates?

ATT Hotspot Not Working

I have an unlocked Pixel 3 on the ATT network. Very happy with the phone thus far with only one issue. When trying to enable the hotspot I get an error stating "To enable go to att.com/my wireless or dial 611". I do have hotspot on my plan and I have modified the APN with ATT's suggested parameters. I did a web search and saw some had the same issue on the Pixel 2 but could not find a solution. Any help?

Thanks for the quick response. I haven't updated my IMEI with ATT. Did you do that?
