Hello everyone
I just bought my first pixel it's a pixel 1 32GB
I'm upgrading from a Nexus 6 32GB
I love my Nexus 6 but after changing the battery once it was time to upgrade
What I wanted was some advice from people who've used this phone
I'm thinking of going right to the Android Q beta
But I do want to root the phone
I would also like to transfer most of my data over before I sell the Nexus 6
Thanks for the warm welcome in advance
Hello mate, the Q beta is usuable now but the new scoped storage can be make some apps misbehave when using the storage permissions. TWRP recovery can be booted or flashed, check the thread for install instructions or just fastboot boot it when needed.
For root use magisk, not sure if its working on Q beta 6 but check the magisk threads for details on that. Last thing, once you've unlocked the bootloader leave oem unlock unlocked and never relock the bootloader unless you are 100% full stock or you'll end up bricked (plenty of threads on this)
Hope that some help
I am use to using the Nexus tool kit what is alternative for a pixel
1. No need to go for Android Q right as it is still in beta.
2. You could follow guide from google on phone switch: https://support.google.com/android/answer/6193424?hl=en
Hope you enjoy your new phone!
I also got OG Pixel about a week ago. I jumped right into beta 5 and it was amazing. I was getting about 5 hours SOT. Now i am on beta 6. I upgraded as soon as it was available. I got MASSIVE battery drain. Google app was draining battery but i disabled it. Still i got about 3:40 SOT twice. Overnight on Beta 6 i am losing 6-8% when on Beta 5 i was losing 1-2%. Right now i reseted my OG Pixel and will test if it's fixed.
Thanks guys the Phone was shipped From Windsor today should reach my Home with in the next 10 days
Looking forward to Change from my Nexus 6 (best phone I ever owned ) but she's old slow now
Update Phone Came today at 8:30 AM I charged it and install My Apps and Android Q Beta
I am getting around 3 Hours on the Battery is this Normal ?
3 hours isn't unexpected for an OG Pixel with the original battery. They're 3 years old. They're still fine phones, but an $80 trip to ubreakifix might be in order. Batteries are only good for a couple of years. Planned obsolescence since they stopped putting user replaceable batteries in phones. Oddly, lots of people buy into the thin (hard to hold), no bezel (no drop protection and hard to hold), no audio jack (no real reason why not), no SD card (why let the user pay $30, when they can charge $100 for the same?), expensive (bragging rights) phones with a 2 year lifetime. Go figure.

3 Hours doing what? I noticed that when on LTE it drains battery on beta 6 even when you do not use mobile data and signal is strong. My nexus 5 does not do this. I hope they will fix this in final release.
I get around 4:30-5:00 SOT using LTE and manually switching to 2g when i do not need mobile data. WiFi about 40-50 minute gaming (on the way to work and back daily), youtube, browsing and messenger lite.
I also noticed that it drains battery overnight too much. About 5%. Still my nexus 5 on andorid 9 loses only 2% overnight and it has much worse battery (4 years old) and smaller capacity (2300 original but now i think no more then 1900 mah).
For example my Pixel is 2 years and 1 month old it was manufactured on 12 july 2017. Check your serial number in about phone -> model and hardware. First 2 letters show where was your device manufactured. Third digit is year 6 -> 2016 7->2017. Next digit is month 5-may, 6-june, next LETTER is day in english alphabet B->2. That's it.

Bit of slate reply but just go custom or flash GSI. I've just got a really blue OG pixel, needs a new battery but once that is done I'll be going custom/GSI route to exte d its life span.

Hey guys, so I'm running Mango 7712, and my Samsung Focus battery only lasts for like 2 hours of actual use. For every 10 minutes of using the phone my battery loses up to 8%, and this is while not playing games or doing anything stressful to the battery. I can probably max out at 6 hours if I don't use the phone.
I don't have the best memory, but I remember my phone being able to last 4 or 5 hours of actual use. But I could be wrong, if you have a Focus, is it as bad as mine? Should I buy a new OEM battery? (And I've tried to recalibrate it, that didn't work, I think it made it worse actually)
Nope just you, my focus has amazing battery. Best out of any smartphone I've owned actually, it can easily last me two days of moderate use... one full day with heavy use (around 15 hours of heavy browsing with music and stuff.)
Im using stock NoDo though, dark background/theme auto backlight. Don't know if mango could have anything to do with your issues.
I have both omnia 7 and hd7 .
Funny thing is that both battery life last the same when surfing continously on 3g.

Yeah I dunno what's up with mine, it used to get me through the day before, now it just sucks. I've heard people say that Mango increased their battery life though. I'm gonna try buying a new OEM battery and see if that helps.
These phones have been out for less than a year so should be under warranty. I have had a weird anamoly a couple of times with my Focus though. Fully charged and when I rebooted it gave me low battery warning. Took battery out and back in and was back to normal. Has happened 3 times in the last 4 months.

That happened to me too! Like it was stuck at 1% even though it truly had 30% left, I left it like that until it died, and then it went back to normal.
Mine isn't bad. A far cry better than my 3gs. I can get about 10 to 13 hours of decent usage. It does go down to about 8 hours if I have music playing for most of the day.

Hi Ryken,
How old is the SIM card that you are using? I have read in other parts of the forum that people have had decreased battery life issues when using an old SIM, once they had it replaced with a new one the battery life increased considerably.
Hope this helps,
Creamy
This usually happens when flashing a new ROM - you need to let your battery recalibrate itself. There are a few examples of this in the forums.
if yr sim card is around 2 years or more, it may have worn out. the gold contacts may have worn out, so change to a newer one
I did this an dmy battery life has been great
yr sim card works 24 hours 7 days a week for 2 years, just imagine how much of a beating it has taken .
Well my sim card is 10 months old, I got it with my phone last November when WP7 launched. Is that old enough to be bad? I've bought a new Samsung battery, it should arrive tomorrow or Thursday, I'll tell you guys how that goes for me?

I've been using my pixel with everything stock (not bootloader unlocked, android stock, no root) and i was able to get 3(heavy usage)-4 hours of screen, after the june patch im just getting around 2-3:30 hours, what can i do? Ive been reading about to try the Android Q beta 4, should i try to go there for better performance? Or downgrade to May patch? Or maybe should i start doing root, kernels and those things if yes, in your experience, how can i get the best perfomance?

I used to be in same situation while using android pie......i tried for many solutions like a custom kernel and custom rom, still i used to get a screen on time of less than 3 hours......finally when i shifted to Android Q beta, my Battery life increased to good level around 3.30 hrs to 4 hours.......Even in beta 4 also i am getting similar battery life, so i suggest you to shift to android Q beta 4

Keep in mind that unlocking the bootloader will wipe everything, so be prepared. If you're willing to do so, I suggest at least unlocking the bootloader, even if you don't plan on rooting. This will give you more flexibility down the line.

I am getting poor battery after June 2019 update as well.
It's says that Outlook app (from Microsoft) is one of the apps taking up the most battery but I don't think it is.
The playstore app constantly crashes and I think this is the root of the issue.

For my everything was ok, but battery was draining too fast, im on Q4 and its way better
Something change recently and battery life back to normal(not greatest but ok). I think it could be play store/ play services. My playstore app was updated to 15.3.14. I remember it was 15.2.xxx a few days ago.
Yesterday I updated my OG pixel to Android Q (June patch QPP4.190502.019), thinking that the battery would improve, but it has not been like this
In A. Oreo 8.1 the battery had a useful life of approximately 13 - 14 hours
In A. Pie 9.0 it had a useful life of 8 - 9 hours
and Now in A. Q 1.0 it has 7 to 8 hours of useful life.
Does anyone have any idea how to solve this problem?

Time has passed since then. Check the health of your battery before coming to a conclusion about the OS's efficiency (or you could flash 8.1 and see how many hours you get).

No way of checking. Usually after 250 cycles the battery will be 10 or 20 % less than when it was new. Just the normal course of daily use.

BY this logic, after 2 years of usage of this phone, its battery life would be terrible.
But mine is decent enough, giving consistently 3.5 hrs screen on time with heavy usage

Nice expectations for Q on this device!
Although I am on June patch, rooted with Magisk 19.3 and using ElementalX kernel and I have around 5h of SOT everyday, even with location and mobile data turned on...
On the other hand, I do use Bluetooth very little and I use PitchBlack substratum theme which certainly helps.
Gaming on this is a rare thing, I only do it at home, on WiFi, streaming from the PC using Parsec (burns 40% of battery in about 30 minutes straight...)

You are WRONG! Modern smartphone batteries start to degrade after 500-600 cycles. If you won't let them down to <25-30% It will last 500-600 cycles. Then it will start to degrade, but not by 10-20% LOL % by %, Slowly. It will last about 800-900 cycles before you will need to replace it to get back good SOT. I still have nexus 4 with battery that i put in it 4 years ago. Until then it had it's original battery. It still works great. Well great for being nexus 4 getting around 2.5-3 SOT every day. But i am not using mobile data and i am not playing heavy games. Light gaming, low brightness, good ROM + Kernel, WiFi ONLY.
Today i got the original Google pixel 5". I will get my hands on it tommorow when i'll take it from office. I hope it's battery will be in good condition. Seller said it's in Good condition overall.

Well... I really enjoy the protect battery feature because i can charge my phone overnight without worrying about damaging the battery. Also , i experienced a bit better battery life .. even if im starting my day with 85%. The extra 4gb vram makes a difference for me as the phone feels snappier. For the rest , no issues at all!
A bit too early for me to review it but it seems just prettier in respect to design, i have 6gb ram and noticed a little more ram usage ( around 500 mb more ) and in the following days i will be able to notice battery usage thanks to "Ampere" app too. A shame that "protect battery" feature can only set limit to 85 instead of giving users choice
So these are some little things i noticed so far.
- battery lowest drain dropped to 50mA from ~70mA, still not perfect but an improvement.
-ui colors are not set automatically and there is no option to do it but to change it manually, this is an android12 related feature and hope it will improve in the future.
-clock widget changes theme without considering your theme setting, bad for aesthetics.
-Not a good text color management on homescreen, using light or dark wallpapers can still lead to notification bar text being unreadable.
-when you open an app and its logo appears for fractions of second background is white even when in dark mode.

Long overdue. But that's the one thing I really miss without root (battery limiter).
I wish they gave us more options than just 85%. Running a few tests, this can use roughly 35-40% of one cycle if left plugged in all day. That's compared to pre-protect feature where leaving the phone plugged in 3-4 hours (and therefore charging 100% for a few hours) would hit about 90% of one cycle.
However, if you could limit the charge to 55-60% (because I'm usually not away from a charging source for more than a few hours), then the charge cycle would be even further limited to only 10-15% per day. In other words, maybe more than 2X extended battery life as the current 85% option will yield.
Not sure what's up with mine. Not only do I not have the Android 12 update, mine is still on July 1 2021 patch. Phone says it's up to date. I have contacted Samsung 3 times and been told every time that my inqiriy is elevated but they never get back to me! Any suggestions?

No I haven't tried to sideload an update. It's my wife's phone so I don't want to mess with it cuz if I brick it I'd be sleeping alone. But I shouldn't have to sideload anyway, it should be receiving updates and it's not and Samsung has been less than helpful.
The other reason is that I no longer have a pc, only a chromebook, and running adb from a chromebook is a pain.
I bought my phone back in April this year & started using it in May. In that time the battery has gone from awesome to pretty dismal. I used to could go a whole day on full charge. Now according to system settings the phone will last 10 hrs! It's also telling me avg screen time in 7 days is 3 1/2 hrs. That's a pretty steep decline in less than a 6 month period. Is there anyway I could possibly reset the battery? Or something else I could do to increase the battery life?

Because I work for a network in the UK. Only allowed to talk about them after launch
I'm not sure if others have issues with battery drain and I did see the article on display on the Pixel 7 Pro being a battery killer...but after using the phone for a few days now, I can confirm that the phone, software, all the fancy features are absolutely great but the battery sucks. This phone is a battery killer indeed. I'm monitoring with accubattery and trying greenify but no luck yet. I have even tried keeping the Smooth Display disabled/turned off (to prevent refresh rate being increased to 120 Hz) but the brain drain literally is insane. I am not an expert and I am not sure if more battery charge cycles, optimization through phone use etc will help over time either. I have tried restricting battery use for many apps as well and tried disabling background data for some apps - no luck on this one too. Hopefully the underlying cause can be fixed with some usual Google software patch magic...if not, it's going to a year of battery misery I guess. I'm curious to hear others experience and any suggestions. Thank you.
I am on the same page when it comes to battery... I have the 7 Pro and since 6PM last night it dropped to 38% with only 1h 45 min of SOT... That is never going to get close to even 3h of SOT.
It is on 1440p and 120hz but still, I don't think this is ok.
Mine is so much better than what my P6P was, yesterday i had 54% left after 17 hours off charge and playing with it given its a new toy, My P6P would have been down to 20%'ish.
I've lost 20% today (since 6.20am) but i have had Poweramp playing music for a couple of hours, i have been out and about taking photos and i made a 30 minute call.

Yeah, mine has been really good also. Really good idle drain and overnight it's in deep sleep around 97% of the time. Active drain has been good as well.
Mine seem to be be about on par with my P6P. Not great, but not horrible.
Compared to my poco f2 pro which only has a 4700mah battery the pixel 7 pro's battery life is pretty abysmal. I used to run twice the **** on that phone and it still didn't die as fast as the p7p. Hope a few firmware updates will get it to a better place. Turing off pick up and tap screen to wake made a little bit better but it's still abysmal imo.
For whatever it's worth, I've had mine (unlocked google / 512) since Thursday. Accubattery has been on since Friday when I rooted and started restoring apps . Just checking it and coming off a full charge overnight (trickle charge) it's estimating I have 11 hours of SOT, 62 hours screen off time. Since it was off the charger around 3 hours ago it's dropped 2% with 26 minutes of SOT.
To be fair I use my phone for email, texts, minor information/news gathering and music streaming and light photo/video recording without much running in the background so I'm not a high power user. YMMV
Weird. My experience is completely the opposite - 6 hours 23 minutes SOT with 21% remaining yesterday on my first full cycle when I put it back on charge. No complaints at all.
Did anyone with poor battery performance transfer apps to the new phone through cable? This has been bad for battery on new phones as ooposed to letting the new phone download the apps.....

The Pixel 7P and 6P I have here ran like total garbage when I transferred data between the two with a USB cable. A fresh install made both phones run great.
