[Q] Is your Samsung Focus battery as crappy as mine? - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, so I'm running Mango 7712, and my Samsung Focus battery only lasts for like 2 hours of actual use. For every 10 minutes of using the phone my battery loses up to 8%, and this is while not playing games or doing anything stressful to the battery. I can probably max out at 6 hours if I don't use the phone.
I don't have the best memory, but I remember my phone being able to last 4 or 5 hours of actual use. But I could be wrong, if you have a Focus, is it as bad as mine? Should I buy a new OEM battery? (And I've tried to recalibrate it, that didn't work, I think it made it worse actually)

Nope just you, my focus has amazing battery. Best out of any smartphone I've owned actually, it can easily last me two days of moderate use... one full day with heavy use (around 15 hours of heavy browsing with music and stuff.)
Im using stock NoDo though, dark background/theme auto backlight. Don't know if mango could have anything to do with your issues.

I have both omnia 7 and hd7 .
Funny thing is that both battery life last the same when surfing continously on 3g.

Yeah I dunno what's up with mine, it used to get me through the day before, now it just sucks. I've heard people say that Mango increased their battery life though. I'm gonna try buying a new OEM battery and see if that helps.

These phones have been out for less than a year so should be under warranty. I have had a weird anamoly a couple of times with my Focus though. Fully charged and when I rebooted it gave me low battery warning. Took battery out and back in and was back to normal. Has happened 3 times in the last 4 months.

That happened to me too! Like it was stuck at 1% even though it truly had 30% left, I left it like that until it died, and then it went back to normal.

Mine isn't bad. A far cry better than my 3gs. I can get about 10 to 13 hours of decent usage. It does go down to about 8 hours if I have music playing for most of the day.

Hi Ryken,
How old is the SIM card that you are using? I have read in other parts of the forum that people have had decreased battery life issues when using an old SIM, once they had it replaced with a new one the battery life increased considerably.
Hope this helps,
Creamy

This usually happens when flashing a new ROM - you need to let your battery recalibrate itself. There are a few examples of this in the forums.

if yr sim card is around 2 years or more, it may have worn out. the gold contacts may have worn out, so change to a newer one
I did this an dmy battery life has been great
yr sim card works 24 hours 7 days a week for 2 years, just imagine how much of a beating it has taken .

Well my sim card is 10 months old, I got it with my phone last November when WP7 launched. Is that old enough to be bad? I've bought a new Samsung battery, it should arrive tomorrow or Thursday, I'll tell you guys how that goes for me?

Smartphone Battery Life - which one is the best?

I think the real challenge in today smartphones is battery life
My low-end Nokia phone lasts 5-8 days with 2-3 small calls per day
I`m used to forget recharging it and i`m just shocked smartphones have to charge every night
So now i want to buy a smartphone but i need one with minimum 3 days of battery life
I want a phone which can play avi files, where is can listen to mp3`s and play games.
I will not play games, watch movies and listen to music every day on it but i want it to be capable
Please recommend some smartphones with 3 days of battery life - low usage (2-3 calls/day)
I think that would be the holy grail sir! afaik there is no smartphone which will last 3 days.
Why not set yourself a reminder on your new smart phone to charge it!? Either that or buy a couple of spare batteries...
Maybe after couple of years, you can find such a smart phone.

yeah.. unless you get an extended battery.. it's hard to last all day

I got pretty close on my Inspire (ironic since the phone's known to have the worst battery life). It'd probably last 3+ days if I wasn't goofing off with it. My "old" iphone 4 could pull 3 days when I first got it but the battery started to degrade pretty quickly after a few months and it would barely make it through one day.
iOS devices will give you best battery life because the code is all native and it's easier for apple to optimize the os for a small range of hardware. Which is the main draw back, if you want hardware choice, custom roms etc, you have to android and learn the dark art of optimization yourself. Since the screen is the biggest drain an amoled phone helps.
Realisticaly, till there's a breakthrough in battery technology, you will just have to learn to plug the phone in when you can.

I think is is a good idea to get a backup batterry.
It's been said that no smartphone lasts three days, but extended batteries, some optimization and careful usage could get you close.
Mu E71 was going strong for about 5 days without recharging. My SGS not at all lol, ahh well, that is what we get for being so demanding.
Turn off Wifi, 3g data, and automatic backlight. It'll make your battery last twice as long.

if amoled is better for batteries then i have to choose from Samsung or Nokia phones
this means i will either get Samsung Android or Nokia Windows 7.5
now the questio is: which OS is better for the battery?
P.S. Motorola Atrix has a 1930 mAh lithium-ion battery but the screen is TFT/LCD
Well, my touch pro 2 battery lasts a week!
I fully charged it , turned it on, booted android turned on airplane mode turned off everything and left it in deep sleep mode.
It lasts a whole week!

As I know, Nokia can do even better than that.
i`m waiting to see Windows 7 battery usage, maybe it will be better than android
so is there any smartphone declared as "battery life" KING? :-s
I get my Samsung Infused to last like 2 days solid but only with moderate use. If I'm hammering my work away on the phone, a full-charge will last me about 22 hours with sync settings on, wifi on, and lowest brightness.
Again, I use my phone for work (app developing + communicating) so I believe this is as good as it gets for a phone that has a 4.5 inch AMOLED+ screen.
P.s. Try JuiceDefender, it really worked to save my battery life.
Well said...

Over 48 hours on a single charge w/ BT and WiFi

To make a long story short, my mom and I both got G2x phones on launch day. Two weeks to the day after our purchase, her battery died and refused to boot even while plugged into the wall charger (which I now know can be fixed by simply pulling the battery). I was busy at work and couldn't help her, and since it was the last day to return the phone within the 14 day period, I just told her to go ahead and return the phone for a replacement.
Prior to her replacement, we had pretty similar battery lives. I used mine more during the day, but she kept Bluetooth and other services running because she was used to an EDGE-only iPhone 3G where she never had to turn Bluetooth off. Our phones lasted between 10 and 12 hours depending on usage. Not great, but not terrible either.
Since she swapped hers out, her battery life is insane. I've attached a screenshot that shows 70% battery life after almost 24 hours. She had Bluetooth running 24/7 (notice it has the exact same usage percentage as Cell Standby) and WiFi running for a good portion of the time (though WiFi slept while screen was off). She had 4G running the whole time. While I know people might balk at the bad LG battery drivers, after 48 hours, she still had 17% battery life left. I apologize for not taking a screenshot--I didn't think about it until later that day. Though if anyone wants me to, I'll take one the next time her phone gets that far along.
I should mention that this is with no optimization at all. She did fully discharge the battery the first time she used it and charged it completely afterward, but that's it. The phone was unrooted and running stock everything with no special tweaks.
I'm very much considering going back to T-Mobile and seeing if they will swap it out. While mine doesn't seem to have the bleeding or other issues that other people have described, if I can trade mine out for a replacement that will quadruple my battery life, why not?
Wow that's amazing. I personally feel the G2x has excellent battery life. It has been way better than other Android phones I've had in the past (except for the original myTouch, I would get like 3 days out of that thing).
I wonder if the crazy battery life from your mom's phone is from the phone itself or the battery. I doubt T-Mobile will switch out your phone passed the exchange period (I'm a Tmo employee) but if they have any return G2x phones in stock, they should be cool to switch the battery out with you. I'm interested to see if it is indeed the phone or the battery.

That's a good suggestion. I'll experiment by swapping batteries with her to determine if it's her phone or her battery. I am inclined to think it's something different with the phone, but we'll see!
this would REALLY suck if it's true... because I got mine at Radioshack.. and I really loathe going to that store... ugh.
I also have amazing battery life. I can go 12 hours at work and still have 80% left. Got mine from the store on launch day.
((LG Tegra G2x)) @FiberOpticRLD
Could you please post the manufactured date (back of the G2x Box) for the second phone? Saw some posts which said phones on or after 4/29 are really good without any of the previous issues.
Curious to see what the verdicts are. If we can get that kind battery life out of our phones, that'd be incredible!

Yesterday I pulled my phone off the charger at 8AM. Went all day. I leave Wifi and Bluetooth on. Made about an hour of phone calls. Occasional checking of a website here or there. Did not charge phone at night. when I went to bed around midnight it was at 25% or so. Did not put it on charger. This morning it was at about 20%.
Not to rain on your parade. But from your screenshot, it shows no voice calls at all and little to no display use. 24 hrs on a charge without every really using the phone isn't really an accomplishment. Now if she can get 24 hours on a charge and have actually used the phone at least moderately then that would be different. I'd like to see how long her battery lasts with actual use of the phone. That would be a more true indicator of the battery life.
I was going to state that... based on that... her screen was only on for a total of 30 minutes out of 1440 minutes... not a major accomplishment. These phones are meant to be used not just carried around like a flip phone from 2001.

Exactly! She could have pretty much accomplished the same thing by just leaving the phone turned off or just leaving it at home. Some of us would like to actually use our phones, not just have them around for decoration lol. Now if someone gets 24 hours on a single charge with actual use, then I'd love to see that thread as that would be useful information.

Love my G2x, But the battery is worst ever.

Have had my rooted stock rom g2x since day 1.
Love phone. I am comming from H2 customed. I thought it had worst battery I have ever had.
That was till the g2x. I hate running a task killer. But am about to do just that to see if I can get anymore battery,.
Its to the point where I fully charge phone and yesterday with only 12 minutes of talk. Maybe 20 minutes of Web use and some emails. Battery was yellow.
This is a joke right? My only thought is that by having my Gmail auto refresh every 10 minutes possibly that could be some cause. But I if not in my car to keep on charger phone last barely a day.
Sounds like you have a bad battery, I get great battery life with the phone

do u really think that is the standard performance of the G2x battery or is it more likely you got a bad unit ? Come on now people, stop posting this crap and just exchange your phone when you only get an hour of battery life. Why start a freaking thread ? You could have used that time to go exchange your phone.

Totally true.
For those of you with problems, your phone is still new, it will be replaced either under buyer's remorse (15-20 days) or directly through tmobile after that period.
Just get a new phone and be done with it.
My first hot potato of a phone would get good battery life, until it cooked itself alive. My second phone was on for over 27 hours and was still at 50%. I'm still surprised.
First off guys. I am not a newbie to XDA or phones. No its not a bad battery.
Remember I am the Costco Manager so I can exchange phone as much as I want for 90 days.
This is my third as I wanted a perfect screen.
I have had this problem with all 3. So the battery is fine.
I use batt apk and I show about 5%loss per half hour after taking off charge
There is no way this is normal. Now I do have lots of apps. But I have froze some in Titanium. However I can blow out this charge in an hour with web use.]
No I did not calibrate. Did not read that till after. However I did charge initially correct.
My HD2 would gobble batterys. But this phone while I love it. Is not a great everyday use phone if not able to be on a charger during day.

So what you're saying then, is those of us with good battery life are the ones with the bad batteries? You really didn't think this through, did you?
I find my battery life was OK on the stock ROM. Nothing I'd get excited about, but I'd gotten used to insanely poor battery life running CM7 on my vibrant. Since I flashed the GB leak (no wipe, fixed permissions, erased battery stats) I'm seeing 18+ hrs with moderate usage.
gingerbread in general gets good battery life, cm7 for galaxy has problems due to samsung not following the google standards, those guys are basically shooting in the dark with that project, yet they have made huge improvments. recently people report decent to improved battery life on the latest builds.
to the op, what are your sync options? i find facebook sync and facebook contact sync are big culprits. also i only use google contact sync to get my contact list initially then turn it off. also if you have your gmail on the stock email app and the gmail app it can increase useage, if you prefer the email app id turn off google sync all together, if you like the gmail app id turn off fetch on the email app.
another culprit is weather apps using the location service, for me beautiful widgets is a battery hog on a vibrant rom but not on a captivate rom so results can vary from phone to phone.
and last of all i dont agree with calibration proceedures, i get some funky results with them, i just delete batstats and then charge to full. i find it takes 3 day minimum to get a good calibration, 5 days is sometimes needed.
I get very good battery life with mine and have been since day one. It lasts almost twice as long as my Vibrant and N1 did.

I use juice defender to turn on/off my data for me when its not being used and the screen is off. It seems to work less than on vibrant.
I'm running stock rom and my battery life varies TREMENDOUSLY from when I'm at work and seldomly using it to when I'm home surfing the web on it ( tablets too far from couch I'm surprised I got the cookies )
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
I was getting really bad battery life when I first got the phone (about 7hrs ) I ended up finding out that the touch led notification app was the culprit so I deleted it and also calibrated my battery and now my phone last all day easily and that with me playing guerrilla bob and the samurai game at work for like 2 hours lol
I recommend you download the where's my Droid power app from the market and see what's killing your battery
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
Also keep in mind that it could be a certain app draining your battery. I downloaded the NFL apparently for draft day and even after exiting the app it took my battery down 15% in a matter of 10 minutes. Not to mention it had my battery's and CPU running super hot. On average I get about 12 hours out of a full charge with moderate to heavy usage.

No wonder your a newbie and no listed thanks. What an asswade comment.
NO!!!!!!!!! What I am saying is that is has to be an internal issue with either synch times or possibly an APP be it internal or external that is causing MANY of us to have terrible battery times vs. others with good. Not saying anthing negative about those who are functioning ok.
I have been rooting and modding for 2 years. This is the worst battery usage yet. My Galaxy S 4g. Could last with same synch times and apps for 18 hours.
Now for those others who have there head inserted other then in there behind.
Okay ran some tests today,
1. Charged phone to 100percent.
2. Left everything the way it has been and no adjustments.
Battery at 84 Percent sitting tableside no text, app, wed or voice use after 2 hours. After 4 hours at 64 percent. After 6 hours at 51 percent. After 8 hours at 39 percent. This is with no usage. This is terrible.
Okay, Now have done following based on others test here and other forums.
1. Loaded Setcpu and made profile for sleep using stock 216 usage.
2. reluctently loaded Taskmanager Pro and killed all but needed apps.
3. Loaded Battery calibration app and after charge calibrated phone.
Left my email synch at every 10 minute as its needed for work.
We will see if this brings better test times now and report back.
What may be my culprit from studying this and other forums is I am in Seattle. We are Tmobiles home office corp and full test market for 4g and every change before rest of USA. I get full 4g at all times. In fact my speed tests are off the board. ave of 12 down 1.3 up speeds.
From what I am finding out, those of us in best 4g coverage (and Seattle is listed best) are finding much more drain on battery in standby and in use.
So my theory is that with this phone and its dual proccesor and my 4g, this is why myself and others in like markets are seeing much faster drain then others. Some dispute this possibility. however other experts say its fact.
Will report back findings tomorrow.
Thanks.

May be some of my issue vs. others.
I do have sync on for FB and Google mail 2 accounts. and I use Fancy Widgets for my Weather and news feeds. However I also used these on my HD2 a known battery hog running cm7 and it had even better life then the phone. I run them on my other Galaxy s 4g as well and it has awesome battery life.
But I will freeze these in my next test after running this test.

those are shocking results man... I dont know what to tell you... If I literally dont touch my phone for 6 hours i will drain no more than 10% of my battery, closer to around 6 or 7% based on my battery monitor widget...
I pulled the phone off at 6 this morning and didnt touch it until 12 and I was at 92%... Chelsea got ****ing spanked this morning and I got a barrage of **** talk text messages that I did not want to deal with haha so my phone wen untouched for a good 6 hours...
I will say though, when I first got the phone my battery life was pretty wonky... first drain was great, second one was mediocre, the third and fourth ones were horrible, drained in 6 hours flat of light-moderate use... I did a factory reset at this point to try and change things up... Calibrated once after that and I have run it up and down to get a good read and I have not looked back since, like i said i can get 20-30 hours of moderate to light use no problem at all!
Great battery on my g2x
I had battery problems with my G2x, only lasted about 7-8 hours on moderate use and cell stabd by was like 50% of battery use.
After i installed the leaked official Gingerbread ROM is like a new phone, ofter 16 hours of use i still had 43% last night. In idle mode it uses about 1% in 2 hours.
I think the battery probles come from Froyo not getting along with the dual core processor.
This phone is awesome!

Iceshark, you're not crazy. This is the same exact battery drain I get not even touching the damn phone! This is my second phone in less than 2 weeks, the first had the same results, both brand new.
Today I unplugged my phone at 12:45 pm, gave my mom a call for mothers day (less than 2 min talk time) Got to work and browsed web for maybe 5 minutes then clocked in at 2 pm. Took a 15 min break at 4pm battery was down to 80% (did some web browsing for 5 min). Took my 30 min lunch at 6pm (battery was down to about 60% (did some browsing for about 15 min). Took my last break at 8pm, and battery was down to 30%. I clocked out at 10:30 and I only had 20% battery left. The only timeI touched the phone was on my breaks, the rest of the time my phone was in my pocket. I had juicedefender running on balanced.
It's now 12:01am and I only have 14% battery left, that's not even 12 hours yet, and I only used the phone and it's features for less than an hour, all the other drain was sitting in my pocket. This is unacceptable. And I'm starting to think all the other people who claim to have great battery life are exaggerating or lying through their teeth.
Although I did a test yesterday using auto airplane mode, which automatically enables airplane mode when the screen shuts off, disabling any data, and then it turns data back on when you unlock the screen this helped very much with battery draining and at the end of an 8 hour work shift I still had 70% battery, but without data you can't receive calls, which sucks.
This battery drainage or bleed while the handset is not even being used needs to be fixed. And isn't it false advertising since the G2x specs indicate standby time is 400 hours?

Battery Usage

I bought my phone back in April this year & started using it in May. In that time the battery has gone from awesome to pretty dismal. I used to could go a whole day on full charge. Now according to system settings the phone will last 10 hrs! It's also telling me avg screen time in 7 days is 3 1/2 hrs. That's a pretty steep decline in less than a 6 month period. Is there anyway I could possibly reset the battery? Or something else I could do to increase the battery life?

Question Poor Battery

Got the pro delivered today. Ive noticed battery life is quite poor. Dropping 5-10% every 30 mins or so. Battery usage seems to suggest the google app is using about 25% of the battery. Usage is nothing over the top. Coming from a pixel 5 with excellent battery

Dude it's your first setup and install. Give it a day or two. Normal. I have used the 7 and 7 pro now for 3 weeks which is great.

pixel 6 fp issues are mostly fixed now because of software updates

Just try to charge it fully and use it for a few more days, also for new phones there will always be updates for battery issues!
Been using both 7 series for 3 weeks. Fingerprint is perfect. Hardly use it with face unlock though

OK...let's have it...how in the world have you been using the phone(s) for the last three weeks?
It's a 5nm(or 4nm) Samsung fab made SOC, it's going to have poor efficiency.

Because I work for a network in the UK. Only allowed to talk about them after launch
I'm not sure if others have issues with battery drain and I did see the article on display on the Pixel 7 Pro being a battery killer...but after using the phone for a few days now, I can confirm that the phone, software, all the fancy features are absolutely great but the battery sucks. This phone is a battery killer indeed. I'm monitoring with accubattery and trying greenify but no luck yet. I have even tried keeping the Smooth Display disabled/turned off (to prevent refresh rate being increased to 120 Hz) but the brain drain literally is insane. I am not an expert and I am not sure if more battery charge cycles, optimization through phone use etc will help over time either. I have tried restricting battery use for many apps as well and tried disabling background data for some apps - no luck on this one too. Hopefully the underlying cause can be fixed with some usual Google software patch magic...if not, it's going to a year of battery misery I guess. I'm curious to hear others experience and any suggestions. Thank you.
I am on the same page when it comes to battery... I have the 7 Pro and since 6PM last night it dropped to 38% with only 1h 45 min of SOT... That is never going to get close to even 3h of SOT.
It is on 1440p and 120hz but still, I don't think this is ok.
Mine is so much better than what my P6P was, yesterday i had 54% left after 17 hours off charge and playing with it given its a new toy, My P6P would have been down to 20%'ish.
I've lost 20% today (since 6.20am) but i have had Poweramp playing music for a couple of hours, i have been out and about taking photos and i made a 30 minute call.

Yeah, mine has been really good also. Really good idle drain and overnight it's in deep sleep around 97% of the time. Active drain has been good as well.
Mine seem to be be about on par with my P6P. Not great, but not horrible.
Compared to my poco f2 pro which only has a 4700mah battery the pixel 7 pro's battery life is pretty abysmal. I used to run twice the **** on that phone and it still didn't die as fast as the p7p. Hope a few firmware updates will get it to a better place. Turing off pick up and tap screen to wake made a little bit better but it's still abysmal imo.
For whatever it's worth, I've had mine (unlocked google / 512) since Thursday. Accubattery has been on since Friday when I rooted and started restoring apps . Just checking it and coming off a full charge overnight (trickle charge) it's estimating I have 11 hours of SOT, 62 hours screen off time. Since it was off the charger around 3 hours ago it's dropped 2% with 26 minutes of SOT.
To be fair I use my phone for email, texts, minor information/news gathering and music streaming and light photo/video recording without much running in the background so I'm not a high power user. YMMV
Weird. My experience is completely the opposite - 6 hours 23 minutes SOT with 21% remaining yesterday on my first full cycle when I put it back on charge. No complaints at all.
Did anyone with poor battery performance transfer apps to the new phone through cable? This has been bad for battery on new phones as ooposed to letting the new phone download the apps.....

The Pixel 7P and 6P I have here ran like total garbage when I transferred data between the two with a USB cable. A fresh install made both phones run great.
