Assistant/ google Voice Keyboard - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

I don't know how to describe the issues I'm having with the two. One is that there is a couple second lag between hitting the button and when you can start talking. If you start talking immediately after hitting the button, it's going to miss the first word and. Half.
2) woefully inaccurate. I speak clearly, and it'll just give absolute nonsense words. Is it because the app has.gotten crappy, the microphone on this phone aren't quite as good as maybe my 2xl was, google sabotaging so it runs more smoothly on the pixels?
Anyone else having issues with it compared to a pixel or previous device ? The ight lag before you can speak, the inaccuracy ?

Turning battery optimization off helped assistant... Still not incredibly accurate.

I've been having this issue for weeks! Incredibly frustrating. It's almost like it's waiting to hear speech before it even starts to listen (when it should be listening as soon as I press the mic button). Anyone have any ideas?

Just ran side by side test with my dad's assistant button on launcher. His bailed it. My op7prop 12gb of RAM missed the first 3 words

So I'm using lawnchair and it lags like that. If I just click an assistant app icon it doesn't at all because that is what I took battery optimization off of

[Q] Weird clicky noise when typing?

Hey guys,
Over the past few weeks I've realized a weird clicking noise when typing text messages. I do have "Vibrate feedback" enabled. Every time the phone vibrates from touch feedback, not only do I hear the normal sound of the vibration, but also an audible clicking noise. Is this normal? This sound was never an issue prior to a week ago.
Thanks
I get that too. It sounds like it's coming from inside the phone, not the speaker. But I think it's a common HTC one x flaw, because there are ALOT more people who have it also.

Try settings, language & keyboard, HTC Sense input, sound feedback.
On or off?
Sorry if I'm being captain obvious here, but I've overlooked simpler things myself.

probably the camera lens. put your ear next to the lense and lightly shake your phone. it's how the phone was designed
The noise surely isn't coming from the speaker. Maybe something loose within the phone? The lens noise is something I've noticed from the start, but this is unrelated.
Not something that is crazy annoying, but I was wondering if others had the same issue. Shaking the phone won't replicate the noise, and when I turn "Vibration feedback" off, the click will go away upon touching the screen.
It's a defect with the vibration motor. Of the 5 HOXs that I've gone through, 3 of them had it including my current one. It's annoying but it's the only problem my HOX has so I'm dealing with it.

Luckily I don't have this because I'm typing all the time. Seriously a lot. The camera lens click did worry me at first before I read this thread.
I occasionally get a clicky screen on the top though. Don't really press up there much.

yeah, it's how they designed it. I'm not sure the reasoning, but I do know that it was intentional
Using Swiftkey, I noticed that if I had my vibration duration too low (I think the default is 10ms) I would get the clicking and barely any vibration. Ramping it up at 20ms makes the vibration actually noticeable and the clicking stops. I think it may be the latency between you hitting the screen and the vibration motor kicking on that causes the clicking since (pulling numbers out of nowhere here...) the vibration motor may take 9.9ms to kick on after receiving a vibrate signal but at 10ms it receives an off signal so it just studders and causes a clicking noise.
Yea I get this too. This is my 3rd hox and all three have had it. I stopped worrying about it too much since I realized it has to be common. I noticed it after flashing different rooms since the vibration feedback when typing seems to feel more pronounced than on stock sense.

SwiftKey you can edit your own feedback. I set it to 20-25ms and it's fine.

I have the SAME exact thing. Definetely not the camera lens. Seems to be near the bottom of the phone. It's this clicky, poppy, tapping noise as if you are pulling apart two sticky objects. I agree that it seems like the vibration motor.
I had it on my desire gsm. I think its due to vibration kicking in.
Well I can try later, keyboard vibration off and see if it makes a click.
But never did annoys, I'm loving it actually, just like a typewriter.
Guys. It's the vibration feedback when typing. The response time must be different than the program time and it only kicks a little. I set my SwiftKey keyboard to 25ms vibration when typing. It's very nice. No clicks because it gives it enough time to vibrate and it feels good. Trust.

I'm have this same problem on a new HT 27 batch model. This is not just a SwfitKey typing issues a the capacitive buttons and the dialer all make the same clicky noise. I getting really bored of swapping my HOX now this is my third and what I thought was perfect is not. I will have to send my to HTC as it's out of the 28 days grrrr.
Mine has the same problem, it sounds and feels really wrong like it's scraping against something. I heard a friend who has the EVO 4g LTE say he has the same problem.
Makes me feel really bad about the phone, like they didn't care enough to test it properly.
Mine also does this if the vibrate feedback is enabled. I just disabled it and now I'm fine.

[Q] Nexus 5 Touch Lag 200ms?

I've been using my Galaxy Nexus for the last two years. I have never really noticed any kind of "touch lag" during this time.
I just purchased a Nexus 5, rooted, installed TWRP 2.6.3.4 and also flashed the Dec.12 2013 version of Cataclysm
I recently noticed after about 2 days of use that:
Typing in general is normal, the keyboard reacts to my touch instantaneously
Games, or any other usage of the touchscreen seems to have about a 200ms touch lag. Whereas the Galaxy Nexus never had this issue.
Asphalt 8 is not playable due to this, the calculator app lags like crazy, or even just hitting the menu button.
Note: I noticed asphalt 8 was not playable before I did any rooting or flashing - however at that time I couldn't figure out the reason.
Is anyone else having this issue? Is there anything I can do to fix this?
I found that increasing the pointer speed may have helped a little. I disabled the vibration and sound on touch as well, that may have helped, but it still feels slow in calculator...
edit: Ok maybe I'm exaggerating a bit. It may not be 200ms but more like more like 70ms

I'm just guessing roundabout, really. It's not like I timed it or anything.
I thought it was frustrating because I couldn't play even play CopyCat (the game where you copy the colors it beeps) without holding each color for a half second before continuing to the next due to the lag.
I found that increasing the pointer speed may have helped a little. I disabled the vibration and sound on touch as well, that may have helped, but it still feels slow in calculator...
do you have any tips for improving it?
edit: I guess the reason I'm complaining is because the lag is near zero when typing on the keyboard. How is it that there is no lag when using the keyboard, but then the lag is present elsewhere?

Ok, so I went ahead and did a nandroid restore. I'm still getting the same thing.
Comparing the older Galaxy Nexus and the Nexus 5 on the same Copycat app, just a quick tap on each color using the Galaxy Nexus is enough to see a color illuminate and make the sound. On the Nexus 5, a quick tap renders no illumination or sound, though the game does see it as being pressed.
Yet on both devices, the keyboard response seems to be equal.

I wonder if this has something to do with the triple tap zoom gesture...?
edit: Solved. The problem was "Magnification Gestures"
The system was trying to wait for a triple tap each time I touched the screen? Not really sure how that all works but... everything is working fine now.
Settings>Accessibility>Magnification gestures>Off
fixed it all.
Whew. I was so worried! Thanks for keeping up with me Mark

Sounds like a loose part inside?

Whenever I hold my phone upright and tap toward the top of the screen (even very lightly), the phone makes a weird clicking sound coming from inside. It sounds to me like the small vibrating spinning part that makes the phone vibrate. I don't know if it's just my model of the device of if this is normal but it's very annoying and noticeable. Also, if I shake the phone even a little I can hear the clicky sound. Not sure if I should take it back and replace it but I wanted to see if anyone else had this problem first?
I have this. Just notice it now. Can hear it from shaking the top of the phone back and forth

Honestly guys, this sound has always been in HTC and Samsung devices that I've had, and to be honest I didn't hear it in my S4,ehich was Prolly the first device in a while where I wouldn't hear a rattle. Someone mentioned a long time ago that's its the part for the vibration/haptic but I don't see how that could be. But yes, I hear it too, and have no clue what the hell it is lol

Camera Lag

Anyone know a way to get rid of the delay between when you hit the button to take a picture? My camera takes a few seconds to focus before it takes the shot, which always leaves you missing something in the moment. My wife has an m8 as well on another carrier but don't see the same lag there.

Did you turn it on? Make the sensitivity a little more so. Reboot.
Also, check your language. Somehow mine got changed to a variation of English other than U.S. and assistant stopped working. Changed it back and, boom.
Thanks for these replies. I really can't understand what's going on. So far I have:
rebooted several times
Settings-->System-->Languages, input & gestures = English, Active Edge = On, Tap Active Edge and adjusted sensitivity.
I am using a case but it doesn't work without the case either. FWIW, I am using Swiftkey.
Any other settings I need to look at?
Thanks again.
I found the problem. I had enabled immersive mode ala https://www.xda-developers.com/how-to-enable-system-wide-immersive-mode-without-root/.
I didn't read that this disables the active edge squeeze assistant. Now I need to decide if I want more screen or Google assistant. I'm leaning toward screen as I have never used the assistant. I thought something was brokedick .
