Hey guys,
Over the past few weeks I've realized a weird clicking noise when typing text messages. I do have "Vibrate feedback" enabled. Every time the phone vibrates from touch feedback, not only do I hear the normal sound of the vibration, but also an audible clicking noise. Is this normal? This sound was never an issue prior to a week ago.
Thanks
I get that too. It sounds like it's coming from inside the phone, not the speaker. But I think it's a common HTC one x flaw, because there are ALOT more people who have it also.

probably the camera lens. put your ear next to the lense and lightly shake your phone. it's how the phone was designed
The noise surely isn't coming from the speaker. Maybe something loose within the phone? The lens noise is something I've noticed from the start, but this is unrelated.
Not something that is crazy annoying, but I was wondering if others had the same issue. Shaking the phone won't replicate the noise, and when I turn "Vibration feedback" off, the click will go away upon touching the screen.
It's a defect with the vibration motor. Of the 5 HOXs that I've gone through, 3 of them had it including my current one. It's annoying but it's the only problem my HOX has so I'm dealing with it.

Luckily I don't have this because I'm typing all the time. Seriously a lot. The camera lens click did worry me at first before I read this thread.
I occasionally get a clicky screen on the top though. Don't really press up there much.

yeah, it's how they designed it. I'm not sure the reasoning, but I do know that it was intentional
Using Swiftkey, I noticed that if I had my vibration duration too low (I think the default is 10ms) I would get the clicking and barely any vibration. Ramping it up at 20ms makes the vibration actually noticeable and the clicking stops. I think it may be the latency between you hitting the screen and the vibration motor kicking on that causes the clicking since (pulling numbers out of nowhere here...) the vibration motor may take 9.9ms to kick on after receiving a vibrate signal but at 10ms it receives an off signal so it just studders and causes a clicking noise.
Yea I get this too. This is my 3rd hox and all three have had it. I stopped worrying about it too much since I realized it has to be common. I noticed it after flashing different rooms since the vibration feedback when typing seems to feel more pronounced than on stock sense.

SwiftKey you can edit your own feedback. I set it to 20-25ms and it's fine.

I have the SAME exact thing. Definetely not the camera lens. Seems to be near the bottom of the phone. It's this clicky, poppy, tapping noise as if you are pulling apart two sticky objects. I agree that it seems like the vibration motor.
I had it on my desire gsm. I think its due to vibration kicking in.
Well I can try later, keyboard vibration off and see if it makes a click.
But never did annoys, I'm loving it actually, just like a typewriter.
Guys. It's the vibration feedback when typing. The response time must be different than the program time and it only kicks a little. I set my SwiftKey keyboard to 25ms vibration when typing. It's very nice. No clicks because it gives it enough time to vibrate and it feels good. Trust.

I'm have this same problem on a new HT 27 batch model. This is not just a SwfitKey typing issues a the capacitive buttons and the dialer all make the same clicky noise. I getting really bored of swapping my HOX now this is my third and what I thought was perfect is not. I will have to send my to HTC as it's out of the 28 days grrrr.
Mine has the same problem, it sounds and feels really wrong like it's scraping against something. I heard a friend who has the EVO 4g LTE say he has the same problem.
Makes me feel really bad about the phone, like they didn't care enough to test it properly.
Mine also does this if the vibrate feedback is enabled. I just disabled it and now I'm fine.

Thank you i was searching everywhere but not within this setting.
I have an HT25 i never get a click but aosp roms have much more intense vibration then sense roms. Wish i knew how to lower the intensity in CM10 and other aosp roms.

I'm wondering the same thing. For instance the keyboard seems to have trouble with registering a keypress on the same key that just worked fine the press before. Granted I just got the phone yesterday and I'm in my learning curve, and it's still stock. Lovin my ns4g with no bloat either way ;-)

I just posted about this. Didn't seem as bad until I rooted the phone, but that was within about three hours of getting it. It's annoying as hell, right? My thread is in the General Forum. ugh.
The screen is definitely not as sensitive as HTC screens. And I agree, it's annoying.
My screen was to sensitive before update but saying HTC has more sensitivity touch screens I beg to differ
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Mine is so sensitive that I don't even have to touch the screen, it will register a touch if I hover just above it.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
what update is this you're referring to?
mine also does the hover thing. I'm getting very annoyed with this...
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
I know the feeling, mine seems to be solely limited to the pre-call dialer. On the dialer it works like a 15 year old palm pilot. Everything else is hyper sensitive. It works fine when in a call.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA Premium App
Is there a setting to change the touchscreen sensitivity on the Nexus S?
I have noticed when the screen is hot it doesn't register keys pressed, I always end up hitting the "." Its quite annoying but j do however love the phone
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Is there somewhere on the phone to set the sensitivity?
Mine falls into the "So sensative that it registers a touch when I hover my finger over it".

I apologize if I'm a little cranky but no one seems to see my question. Is there ANY SETTING available for the sensitivity of the touchscreen?

No setting that i know of. I believe some kernels adjust sensitivity but its one setting built in not adjustable. I am running netatchy kernel and responsiveness is amazing.

Yep that is true, sometimes it depends of the ROM or Kernel you have.
Hello, fellow Nexus S owners. I am resurrecting the thread because I found myself in a similar situation.
But first some history and details - I own a I9023 handset and have been using stock ROM since it came out (JZO54K). Couple of days ago I noticed that the lower part of the screen (the line right above the hardware buttons) is less responsive and sometimes even unresponsive. This makes it really annoying when trying to call somebody and nothing happens when I try to launch the dialer. The same behavior is observed throughout the whole row this includes even applications button. When texting the same things happens.
At first I thought that this could be due to me installing a "Temple Run" kind of game, but I wiped it, rebooted and the problem remains.
What do you think? Could this be a hardware problem or software one?
Your digitizer might be dying.
It's also known that while charging the phone with the wrong charger the screen goes crazy, but then, unplugging the phone will usually solve the issue.

Luckily the device is still under warranty so I will take it to my vendor for repair. Maybe then I will have some info on what's happening.
I had a similar problem a while back when my battery started to die. I've never experienced any touch screen wackiness caused by third-party chargers, but this seemed to be a comparable issue albeit in the opposite direction. So in addition to my battery losing charge real quick touches wouldn't register in the bottom half of the screen.
Hey guys. This phone has been great, but now I've just started noticing this problem. The vibrate is getting progressively weaker. You can even "hear"/notice it when, let's say, the phone is ringing, the vibrate will sort of "level" down.
I downloaded an app to test vibration, and it seems to be random and getting weaker. Also, when the phone rings, sometimes, while vibrating it will "hiccup".
What is causing this? Battery? My phone is perfect except this. I REALLY don't want to go back to stock and have to return the phone.
What rom. And kernel are you using? I thought I was having the same problem but it was because I was undervolting

Absolutely no undervolting here; I can tell you that with 100% certainty. I'm using CM7 with default kernel.
At one point I DID mess with the LordMod kernel and install a UV script, but after that I didn't like it (it wasn't smooth as CM7 kernel default), so I did a nandroid restore to an earlier point when I wasn't using it, so I assume the entire system including kernel included was restored.
Yeah your kernel was restored too. Hold the volume down button for 3 seconds. How weak does it feel?

It vibrates, albeit weakly, and vibrates sort of "rough". It even skips while vibrating. Sounds like it's missing (sort of like when a car engine misfires) .
how do you take vibrate off in all settings I thought I did but when I answer the phone it will vibrate and when I use the calculator
Maybe it needs a tune-up?

It's getting more ridiculous. It sputters like a car that has bad spark plugs (analogy).
I contacted AT&T and they are shipping me a replacement. I will report when I get it.
I had a similar problem with my Atrix except it was the keyboard and haptic feedback that was completely giving out. I hope my Inspire doesn't start acting up, I got it off Craigslist not at&t
Sounds like hardware. I.e , the the little motor that spins the little off-center weight that results in the vibration might be going bad :-(. Hope I'm wrong.

For the first week, I could do a fast swipe across my home screen to get it spinning. Worked 100% of the time. As of yesterday, it literally no longer recognizes these swipes. It won't move at all, or sometimes it will think I clicked on an app instead of swiping.
Same thing applies to the lock screen. I have to slowly bring up the ring to unlock. Extremely irritating.
What saddens me is this happened on my first phone as well after about a week (exchanged that phone because of dust). Looks like it wasn't just that phone.

Seems like a grounding issue, but we don't exactly know what's causing the problem. It works sometimes, doesn't work others.
This really sucks. Just the other day I could get it to spin with one swipe. It's impossible to do with any amount of swipes now.
I have to double swipe to get it to work. I have to kill all the running processes in the quick settings first.
What's the point of the carousel super spin? Mine doesn't do it unless I hit it just right, but in my eyes its a total novelty.

Agree, not just useless but a waste of time if you trigger it accidentally. Sense REALLY needs a "performance" setting that disables all the animation crap, like Windows has. That sliding home screen after unlocking is also really silly. I want snap, not spins and gradual fades. If they want to make everyone happy they need to maximize customization.

Yes we all agree that the effect itself is not important. But it shows the responsiveness of the touchscreen. If you cant get it to spin, your phone feels like ass when you swipe things.Well hell not just swiping, anything touch related. I removed my sim card, battery and SD card to take it back and exchange it and all of a sudden it started working great. Has been flawless for the past few days, real happy! until today.. I left it on the roof of my car and it hit the road at about 55 and got ran over multiple times. I couldn't find it when i went back to try and save my sim for the trusty N1 but my Bluetooth earpiece came on when in the vicinity and i actually got a phone call when i was waiting to cross the road to pick up the carcass. Had to use the BT though unlocking on the screen would slice your fingers open. So now i'm back to a non responsive touchscreen! DAMMIT! I finished it off prying it open to get the sim, battery and SD card out. Asurion replacement to be here Friday.
I had the same problem after three weeks of the touch screen working perfectly. I followed the instructions in the touch screen issues thread and it fixed it!. I didn't even wait an hour like it said. Turn off your phone, take the battery out, put the back cover back on, hold the pet button for like 15 seconds then Open it up and put the battery back in and turn it on. Worked for me!

That process didn't work at all for me. Left the battery out for just over an hour. All screen issues of being unresponsive are still there. No fast scrolling and lockscreen issue getting quite bad. Can't get carousel at all anymore. And it takes about 5 tries to unlock lockscreen.

When you receive a notification, say an email, it shows a line in the notification drop down list. Press the line will open particular app. This is we all know.
But, have you noticed something like this? When press the notification line, don't release you finger but keep pressing it, sometimes, not often but did happen to me a few times, the font of the notification line became blurred and hard to read, unlike the normal case, it should be slightly smaller than the unpressed notification to indicate it's being pressed.
It's really hard to notice I know, since we just press it quickly and another app is opened right away. And, I tried to reproduce this but failed. So it just happens quite randomly or in a very certain circumstances.
Have you ever noticed this guys? Or can you try the same, press but not release when new notification comes in the future to see if it's just my phone?
Cheers!

Yes, this doesn't happen to me very often, I haven't figured out in what circumstances this would more likely to happen but maybe when battery is low, say about 15% or less. Could you and others just be mindful when clicking notification that will just be enough.
